As they say, all things must come to an end

The 2023 NY legislative session included. Nothing is longer than the present moment but nothing is quite as fleeting. But the best one could do is put one foot in front of another and apply more paint and bondo over the rust holes. I’m looking forward to summer and not having to wear my loose fitting dress shirts anymore, knowing that I can catch the 5 o’clock home every day.

Good morning! Today 8:30 PM Sunset ️⛱️ . I guess that’s a sign of spring even if the mercury isn’t agreeing. Partly cloudy and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃.

I got a good night’s sleep 🛏 that is relatively speaking but I’m still dragging my ass on the morning walk 🚶 a few minutes late again. 🏢 Maybe I’m fearing the week to come 😱 but I don’t know why as the latest night last week was 6 pm and often on the real late nights I can work from home.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 75 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 31st. Maximum dew point of 48 at 10am. North wind 5 to 11 mph. I still haven’t needed to get my fan out of the closet. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.

Yesterday I made a 1 lb of black beans 🍲 and baked up a bunch of chicken and asparagus for the week to come. I have plenty of rice 🍚 and lentils cooked for the first half of the week plus a few pounds of spinach and kale in the freezer, along with lots of peppers, tomatoes and onions. I may need more fresh fruit before the week is done but I anticipate getting my truck and driving in on some of the late nights. Also need toothpaste 🦷 but I’ll squeeze what I can out of the tube or cut open to get anything remaining out of the tube.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.9° from the due south horizon (-0.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:47 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (302°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:30 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 9:03 pm, which is 42 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:49 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 67 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 3 seconds over yesterday.

Barley and quinoa with frozen raspberries for breakfast 🥣 this morning. I was hoping to find Juneberries in the woods this weekend without much luck. I think where I was looking has gotten too shaded in recent years. 🍓 Then iron my pants and shirt while cooking 🕴️, shower 🚿 and catch the bus downtown. 🚍 Going to try to do this without racing 🏁 out the door 🚪 today. Found another tick on me this morning. 🐜 Finished off the rest of the barley and quinoa, did a better job rinsing the quinoa which made it less bitter. I still need a better strainer for that.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 52 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 29th. Maximum dew point of 46 at 6am. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1971.

Packed both a lunch and dinner tonight for work. 🍴🧆 Decided on a lighter lunch, with out the carbs as it seems like lately I’ve been overdoing it. Red onions, peppers, black beans for lunch. Dinner is rice, black beans, chicken, asparagus and kale. I’m worried about back sliding after last week. 🤰🏼Plus I know with work today it will be a fairly sedintary day, though I’ll try to get over to the legislative office building and Capitol during the day to get my steps in. 👣 I really want to walk at least five miles today. 3 miles so far.

A picture perfect weekend on tap for the Gas Up 🚜. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Maximum dew point of 54 at 8pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 55 at 9am. Should be fun with dad on Saturday and maybe I’ll hammock camp on Saturday night. Maybe go back to Gas Up ⛽ myself on Sunday after camping to see the parade. Just a thought. Typical average high for the weekend is 78 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 80 🏖 when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 73 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1995.

A lazy Sunday fun day, still too tired 😴

I may take a nap as I woke up a little after five AM with the sun rise and couldn’t get back to bed. I stayed up late too. I was bad. With the early sunrises and late sunsets I’ve been staying up much too late and rising early.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Mostly cloudy ⛅ and 51 degrees for the morning walk in Delmar. There is a north breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 45 degrees.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 62 degrees at 2pm. 14 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 21st. North wind 8 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1919.

Looks like today is going to be pretty cool. 🍃 I’m hoping for more sun today though it’s not looking promising. I do plan going out to the folks house 🏡 later and then maybe hike Bennett Hill. I am feeling low energy today but I do want to walk a minimum of 6 miles today. Did yesterday nine miles and 11 ½ on Friday. 👣 Lately I’ve been feeling really tired. I hope it’s not Lyme disease but I’m a bit worried. Also trying to boost my protein and dairy levels up and reduce sugar intake without going really overboard with calories. 🐮 I love dairy and cattle, I can easily go way overboard the other way.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.8° from the due south horizon (-1° vs. 6/21). It was nice going up to see John and Linda yesterday then hiking the balance of the afternoon at the Albany Pine Bush. 🦋 I got groceries at Market 32 in Guilderland which they always have a great selection of plastic free produce. They are bit overpriced and didn’t have the selection of all the products a normally get at Walmart. But I figured with the cost of gas and being on the way home it made sense. 🍏 🥦 I forgot to get toothpaste 🪥 and eggs 🥚 but I expect late nights at work this week and I can stop by the store 🏬 when driving 🚘 in on the evening later in the week.

At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 59 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 12 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 7 seconds over yesterday.

This evening when I get home, 🌰 I want to cook up the black beans I got at the store this week. And maybe some chicken 🐔 for dinner for the coming week. Also maybe some chickpeas could he roasted that I preciously soaked a few months back, stuck in the freezer and forgot about. Do as much cooking as possible tonight as a busy week ahead. Then refrigerate and freeze everything. Later in the week I’ll need to do more brown rice and lentils 🍚 but that’s something I can do before work easily and it’s better fresher as I have a few days supply in the refrigerator currently.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 48 degrees at 4am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 16th. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 47 degrees. The record low of 39 occurred back in 1990.

I want to get to bed 🛏 before nine o’clock with lights out 💡 at nine. Abusing my sleep is so bad for health. During the winter I was so good with many nights in bed before eight and rarely not sound asleep by nine. Some of it is my work schedule but mostly lately it’s the getting up at 5:30 when the sun rises and to bed after 9:30 due to the late dusk 🌆 and me out walking 🚶 to then.

Next Sunday is the Gas Up ⛽ when the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm with dusk at 9:07 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 78 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1947. Might do that with dad followed by a night in the hammock up in the woods.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. 🌅

It’s literally freezing out this Thursday morning, though no wind and it’s more like a heavy dew rather than a frost this morning. Still it’s the second half of May and not October.

Mostly sunny and a freezing 32 degrees for the morning walk in Delmar, NY. ☀ Calm wind. It looks like there is a pretty good temperature inversion around. Probably warmer in higher elevations. Happens in the Albany area sometimes trapping in all the pollution. There was this one house that looked like an oil burner was malfunctioning, and it almost looked like a house fire from all the black smoke. But I think it was just a bad injector, putting in too much fuel into the furnace. But they might want to get that fixed before they have an actual house fire.

I am out walking this morning, 🚶‍♀️ and when I get home, I have rice soaking which I will cook with red lentils. Makes a bit more of pasty, softer rice mixture but I like to change things up then the green lentils. I did forget to get beans last night but I probably wouldn’t have had enough time to soak before morning. 👨‍🍳 I also have chicken 🐔 thawing in the refrigerator which I will cook up for dinner, along with the rice, spinach and those mini potatoes I got for camping a few weeks back. 🥞 I was thinking banana-oatmeal pancakes this morning, but they will have to wait for oatmeal and blackberries this morning, as I think my stove will be busy cooking the rice. But it’s fine, I haven’t had oatmeal since Monday, and true be told, it’s a pretty similar meal.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 65 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 28th. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. Not quite as cold as yesterday. I just want endless summer. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 2017. 2.2 inches of snow fell back in 2002.❄

Yesterday I checked off a lot of things on my list. ☑ Walked 8.6 miles, got my dry cleaning and a few groceries 🥦 like more spinach, banana peppers and olives. Finally got skim milk 🥛 at Stewart’s, I’ve been putting it off as I don’t like drinking calories but I need for some recipes and it’s good for hot coffee. ☕ Soaking some brown rice 🍚 currently, going to cook that up this morning.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 66.9° from the due south horizon (-3.9° vs. 6/21). At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 58 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 46 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 58 seconds over yesterday.

I fixed some bugs in the style sheet for the blog 🖥 and uploaded that R script I developed for extracting up to date property tax data from the rolls. I’m working on some new ideas for content for the blog, I often monitor what people are searching for on the blog and use it for ideas for content. 💡

I was doing my monthly financial check up 🔎 💵 and discovered I’m taking in a lot of interest payments from my savings account which is at 4% now that the fed pushed up the rates. Combined with dividends, I’m making nearly a fifth of my monthly income from those quarterly taxable sources. That’s kind of bad as I’m going to owe a lot come July 15. Not sure what I’m going to do. I could move more into stocks and bonds but I want to keep cash on hand as I’m going to need a new truck at some point and if the market declines further I want to be able to buy stocks or bonds.

Not the greatest weather ever for the Lupine Festival but not ungodly hot. 🦋 Saturday, a chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8pm. Sunday, a chance of showers before 8am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 51 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees.

May 10, 2023 Morning

One more cold morning ❄

At least for the week though by the time you get into the third week of May extremely cold mornings in the thirties get rare. But heck, things can happen. They had five inches of snow in Albany in 1945. But it is expected to be in the eighties come Friday.

Good morning! Sunny and 38 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. 🌞 Calm wind.

I just can’t believe how cold this morning is. ❄ I left my windows open but it’s even colder outside. It should warm up quickly though with temperatures reaching into the seventies by afternoon.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 72 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 17th. Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Groovy. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1970. 5.0 inches of snow fell back in 1945.❄

This morning I have to pick my tire up from the shop ⚫ and maybe drop off some of my suit jackets to be dry cleaned. The nail is out it’s plugged. I want to get to the car wash and then lubricate the spare tire holder before I reinstall it. I should have done that a long time ago, fortunately the spare tire holder wasn’t seized. I’m thinking Sunday for that.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 65° from the due south horizon (-5.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:25 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (289°). 📸

Yesterday I got home around 6:45 pm and ultimately decided to cook up the chicken 🐔, rice, kale, peppers and onions with tomatoes 🍅 for dinner. It was good. I got out walking at 7:30 until nine, worked out to be 8.1 miles for the day. I keep loosing weight but I’m worried 😯 about back sliding come summer thought I think I have a gotten into cooking 🍳 and shopping 🛒 better.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (295°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:05 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 12 seconds with dusk around 8:36 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:17 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 64 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 29 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 16 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 48 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 14th. A good ten degrees warmer than this morning. West wind 3 to 8 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 2010.

Warm and sunny for Mothers Day Weekend. 🤶🏻 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 79. Maximum dew point of 55 at 8am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 68. Maximum dew point of 38 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 71 degrees.

Lol 😂 wouldn’t be a bad weekend to head out of town if I wasn’t so dang busy. My list of projects for the weekend is long 📃 and I’ll probably have to work Saturday. It’s fine, I’m sure the black flies would be bad anywhere in the woods. 🐜 Plus I don’t like heading out of town every weekend, it’s a lot of work to pack and prepare and expensive to boot.

Looking ahead, next Wednesday is Pack Rat Day 🐀 when the sun will be setting at 8:14 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 67 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 72 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2017.

How I got started on my healthier eating habits 🍒

In January when I was doing my Mission Fifty plan, one of the areas I found most unaddressed was my diet.

Apples

I’ve always tried to eat relatively healthy, but it’s difficult living in modern America with so much food containing a lot of calories, especially sugar. Sugar ain’t just in candy and cookies. 🍚 They hide it everywhere in processed foods from hot dogs to pasta sauce. There is also a lot of fat in foods where you’re not thinking. 🍪 Cheese is after all just dairy fat! Plus salt. 🧀 It’s bad how much salt there is in common canned goods, including canned vegetables like I used to use a lot a camp. The more you learn and more you look at the labels, the more horrified you become. 🔍 It’s everywhere, even canned tomatoes if you not careful. Even pasta and pasta sauce is pretty darn unhealthy with all the carbohydrates.

To be clear, I have never drunk much soda, eaten much fast food or had candy or cookies at home but it became painfully obvious that there was some serious holes in my eating habits as I turned 40. 🧓 I not only eat too much but I also eat way too much pasta, along with my love of cheese and dairy. 🧀 Whey too much carbohydrates with too little fiber — pun intended. 🍝 The carbohydrates, especially from the white pasta was further aggravating my soreness at times from Lyme Disease and just generally growing older. 😭 You can eat a lot of white pasta with pasta sauce, loading up on calories but not be filled up due to the lack of fiber. 🤰 Walking isn’t fun when you wake up all achy.

At times my blood sugar was all over the map, sometimes leading me to a manic phase where I would have an intense productive periods, other times when I would fall into a deep depressive state, unable to produce much of value. 😥 I’m not sure if I’m pre-diabetic, but I certainly was heading that way. Then there was a constipation from all that cheese and pasta, the runs and terrible hangovers from over-consuming alcohol at camp, 💩 and general not wonderful health — even if I was burning a lot of calories. 🏃 Maybe I could get away with in my younger years, but I’m no longer 20 or even thirty.

There were other things that also made me reconsider my diet. For one, the rising price of food. Inflation is painful lately, especially anything from animals that goes moo or oink. 🐄 🐖 Meat in particular has gone up a lot in price, but also pasta, cheese and sauce. Vegetables and rice in contrast have been much more consistent in price over the years. It’s also easier to buy them in bulk which means less plastic garbage to get rid off. ♻ 🔥 I can burn it, but plastic is kind of nasty and recycling is a pain to clean and pay to take the recycle center, assuming that the recycle isn’t just a creative detour to the landfill as it often is.

Even before the year and my plan started, most weeks I was walking more then 5 miles a day, often much more. 🚶 Most weeks were between 40-50 miles walked. But at the same time, I was looking at photos my face, winter camping, especially with the hoodie on and I was looking chubby especially in my face. Hiking up some of the big hills around was tiresome too. 🤰 But things got worse. Pushing forty, things were just getting more difficult to do the way I did them in my younger years. 👴

Probably the gateway to my healthier lifestyle was having a fruit basket in my office and eating fruit throughout the day. That did much to stabilize my blood sugar, reduced my extreme cravings for quick carbohydrates when I got home, usually in large bowls of sugar and carbohydrate-rich pasta and red sauce. 🍎 Next I swapped out pasta for brown rice, which as a lot more fiber and is more filling. Started adding additional healthy things like lentils and beans, which really fill you up quickly with minimal calories. 👨‍🍳 Evey week I make a big bowl of lentils, brown rice, and cooked dried beans of some sort as a base ration for many meals.

The next thing was cutting way back on dairy. I like farming, I like cows and dairy farming. But milk is calorie heavy, and calories become fat if you over-consume them. 🥛 Cheese is great, in moderation, something I didn’t do in the past. So many two-pound blocks of cheese I eat over the years. Macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese, slices of cheese with honey. 🧀 Washed down with milk of course! I added the ever flexible tofu — pressed and pulverized soy — as a healthier option to the dairy I used to consume so much of. Not because I’m anti-dairy, but I’m pro-health. 🍚

I cut back on my meat consumption, and boosted my vegetable intake. 🥦 Meat is wonderful as a treat, but it can pack in a lot of calories. And it lacks a lot of vitamins for all the fat and calories that it contains. To get healthy fats, I occasionally eat chicken and salmon, in moderation. 🐠 At first I started with frozen vegetables, but now I’ve been getting more fresh vegetables as it’s often more affordable and the taste is better. Plus greater flexibility for camping, as you can’t keep things frozen. 🏕 I learned love tomatoes, freshly chopped onions, peppers and even kale. 🧅 🍅 Always looking at new ways to get new green vegetables into my diet — I always have either spinach or kale in one or two meals a day. 🥒

Once we get into the growing season, I am excited to be able to get more locally produced produce. And knowing that I like healthy, locally grown food means that when I own my own land I will be able to produce more of my own food. 👨‍⚕️ Ravioli and pasta are great, but it’s not like you can grow them out back. 👨‍🌾 They come in paper and plastic garbage, they can’t be composted. In contrast, fruits and vegetables come in minimal to no packaging. 🗑

I keep watching Youtube videos and reading about the latest in nutrient science and cooking, to learn about the building blocks of a healthy diet. 📺 I don’t get hung up above overly complicated recipes, but I do try to make things are healthy and don’t add a lot of unhealthy things to make them artificially sweet or give them tastes that aren’t natural. 👨‍🍳 And I really enjoy all the new flavors I’m enjoying. Getting away from sugar and processed foods really brings back your sense of taste. 🍳 Feeling thinner and getting complements all of the time is great too. 😃

String Cheese

It’s a journey and there is more to do. But I like where things are going.

December 28, 2019 Afternoon

Good evening! Mostly clear and 33 degrees at Moscow Hill Camping Area in Brookfield. Calm wind as we are tucked down in the valley. Smoke is going straight up from the fire. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 7 pm. ☃️

Beautiful evening, mild for late December but the ground is still fairly frozen. ⛺ That said I’m sure these campsites have a thick pack of gravel because they’re trampled by horses 🐴 and heavy horse trailers and diesel pickup trucks all summer long. These sites have those nice little pavilions that the DEC has at a number of state forests in Central and Western New York. 🏡 They’re perfect for handing up lights and cooking and preparing food under. 🍲 I wish they had them up at Cherry Ridge 🍒 but only at the horse camp 🐴.

I was originally planning on going up to Cherry Ridge 🍒 but the road was icy as it’s plowed but not sanded or salted beyond the seasonal use only. I probably would have been fine going up it but there is that one steep section towards the top so I decided against it in favor of Moscow Hill horse camp. 🐴 The riding season is done for the year and while it’s right off of the county highway, there is very little traffic nearby, certainly far less than NY 8. I think I made a good choice camping here and I forgot how nice the pavilions are. Plus being only fifteen minutes away from Shurburne it made for a nice drive down there to visit the Rogers Environmental Education Center. 🐸 No cellphone here but I kind of enjoy the solitude. 📱

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 26 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 4th. Light and variable wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1933.

Madison County certainly is a brown and gray as I noted earlier. But that’s winter and that how the land is. So many neat old farm houses and real rough cut farms that are super muddy after it being relatively mild. 🐮 Lots of run down trailers, modular homes and even a few shed to homes. Not too many off grinders although I bet in the future – especially with new homes you’ll see more of that, especially on dirt roads without electric lines. 🔌

While I didn’t grow up in a trailer or a farm 🚜 I’ve always loved the gritty rural life. 😍 The piles of junk and manure. 🔧 The goats 🐐 tied to the tree, the homesteaders processing their own deer and hogs 🐖. They call it poverty or ignorant rednecks but those people are a lot smarter and privledged than I. Someday I’ll own an off grid cabin 🏡 and do a little homesteading myself but I’ll never be a true country boy  like those who were raised the life in a place like Southern Madison County. Sure, a lot of my neighbors growing up raised pigs and cows, llved in trailers or modular homes and even burned their own trash 🔥 but I grew up in an ordinary house in the country to college educated 🎓 parents. They had goats and chickens 🐔 buy were no means real country boys.

Tonight will have a with 15% illuminated with the moon setting at 6:57 pm. It is definitely a pretty beautiful little moon. The is on Wednesday night with mostly cloudy skies. The is on Wednesday night. The sun will rise at 7:31 am with the first light at 6:59 am, which is 16 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 29 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain likely, mainly after 4pm. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 37 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 13th. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1984. 6 inches of snow fell back in 1915.❄

Tomorrow morning I’m taking down camp ⛺ and heading to Glimmerglass State Park before the rain ☔. As it is a fairly mild night, 🌃 I decided to not bother with the tent – I’ll be plenty warm once I get snuggled under the covers in my truck bed. I do like the warmth of the hot tent but it is a lot more work to set up and take down. If I were staying multiple nights or if it was colder I’d definitely had considered the tent.

In four weeks on January 25 the sun will be setting at 5:05 pm,🌄 which is 29 minutes and 57 seconds later then today. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 35 and 15 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 31 and 14 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 1938.

Looking ahead, Winnie the Pooh Day 🍯 is in 3 weeks, 5 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 4 weeks, February 🌧 is in 5 weeks, Average High is 50 🌸 is in 3 months, Average High is 60 🌼 is in 16 weeks, Average High is 70 🐮 is in 20 weeks, Memorial Day Weekend Starts 🏕️ is in 21 weeks, and Summer ️⛱️ is in 25 weeks.

Open Area [Expires March 9 2024]

February 22, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday Starts March 🌨. That’s always a month of change, quite variable. Cloudy now and 36 degrees in Delmar. ⛅ There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 22. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. ☃ Will it be gone by evening? Maybe ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 6 pm. ☃️

The morning started out quite gray but cleared up for a while and is now gray again. At at least it gets light out pretty early. 🌄Two weeks, one day until the time change. I think I got a fairly good night’s sleep. No sleeping pill last night. I’m trying to break the habit so it doesn’t become a problem and honestly getting to bed at a proper hour is more important than occasionally waking up at night.😴

I’m glad it’s a Friday. Thirteen weeks to the start of Memorial Day Weekend. 🏕 I can feel the swarms of black flies already. It better not rain that weekend, or I think we should order protests of the National Weather Headquarters. 🗯The weeks are going quickly which is good because I want the snow to go so I can truck cap camp, especially before the black flies return. I miss the nights in the wilderness, the fires and waking up and cooking a breakfast on the griddle.🍳

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 44 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 15th. Northwest wind around 9 mph. Seems like it will become a pretty nice day. A year ago, we had light snow showers for a good portion of the day. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 1997. 14.8 inches of snow fell back in 1893.❄

The sun will set at 5:36 pm with dusk around 6:05 pm, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 55 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 20 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 25th. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 1972.

Tomorrow for the Save the Pine Bush Hike 🌲 will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 43 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 12th. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light snow. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 2017. 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 1935.❄

Looking ahead to Sunday, rain, mainly before 1pm. High near 50.☔ Southeast wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 37 degrees.

Looks like yesterday’s warmth melted away most of the snow and ice from my truck, so the solar panel is topping off the accessory battery keeping that healthy. Things should be snow free for the Save the Pine Bush hike.👍That’s good as I’m tired of having to dig snow off the truck. I do also want to give Big Red a bath on Sunday, to wash off the salt, as I expect by then the salt will be off the roads from the rain, and I should be home Sunday evening before the salters are back out again, or so I hope.🛁 Next week looks cold and salty, but I plan to leave Big Red off next weekend.

This morning I had corn bread waffles and fruit for a change. 🍌🍒 Last night though I fell off the wagon and had some burritos and chicken nuggets. I did go for the even walk after that, but I didn’t ride the exercise bike. I got back and continued to work on planning out the isolator relay control module building.

For the isolator relay control module I’m building for the truck I’ve decided to use a small relay rather than a transistor to drive it. I don’t have any PNP transistors and I have to switch the hot side to control the relay. ⌨ I decided to also integrate a Bluetooth module so I can easily check the battery voltages from my phone and are considering adding ACS 7212 Hal effect sensors to monitor current from the solar panel and load to the truck cap to see how much the battery is charging and how much load there is. I may start building the board this weekend and start testing things inside. 🔋 Obviously I wouldn’t want to have a bug in the code and get stranded somewhere in the wilderness with a discharged battery, so test — test — test before wiring.

As previously noted, next Friday is March 🌨 (NOTICE SNOW EMOJI !!) when the sun will be setting at 5:45 pm with dusk at 6:13 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy skies and mild conditions with a few snow showers and temperatures between 50 and 35 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 2017.

In four weeks on March 22 the sun will be setting at 7:10 pm (Daylight Savings Time),🌄 which is one hour, 33 minutes and 34 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 45 and 27 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 47 and 28 degrees. The record high of 81 degrees was set back in 2012.

Looking ahead, March 🌨 is in 1 weeks Ides of March ✝ is in 3 weeks, Earth Day 🌎 is in 2 months, Memorial Day Weekend Starts 🏕️ is in 13 weeks, Average High is 80 🏖 is in 4 months and Dog Days of Summer 🌻 is in 19 weeks.
