Where have all the August days gone, long time passing? ⛱️🩴🦕🌽🎪🎢🎡

Where have all the August days gone,
With memories from dawn to dusk?
They slipped through time’s gentle hand,
Leaving memories in the mud and muck.

Good morning! August days fade away as mostly wet memories — though it looks like come September a beautiful stretch of weather is ahead. Did you see that big blue moon last night? Mostly clear and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌅 There is a north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 51 degrees.

A nice morning for the walk 🚶. I have chickpeas cooking down on the stove this morning 🍲 in a second attempt to make hummus again this time with fully cooked down chickpeas, sufficient salt and olive oil and fresh lemon 🍋. This time hopefully it will be a nice smooth mixture. 🛻 Tomorrow at this time my hope is to be heading towards Tribes Hill for Samdil’s Farm to stock up 🌽 🍆 🍅 🥩 🥚 prior to the Adirondacks. ⛰️

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 73 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 19th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6am. North wind 8 to 10 mph. Very autumn like day ahead. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1953.

Closing out summer what seems like much too soon 🌻 but it always seems to happen this way. I went out to Bender Mellon Preserve 🍈 after finishing off the last cantaloupe last night probably the last time after work until next spring due to the early sunset. Dark and shadowy now for the morning walk too as the sun rises later.

The red lentil wraps I made yesterday worked out good, 🍳 they were tasty with just the right amount of added sea salt. Again the key was soaking the lentils in advance all day so they were big and soft when they hit the food processor to make a good batter. 🥞 Ultimately they were delicious with the red kidney beans and maple syrup 🍁 for dinner though I’m sure if I had kept more water in mix they would have been excellent wraps. Might try again up at camp this weekend.

Glad I rode back and forth to work yesterday 🚲 as there was a car 🚙 🔥 fire on the Thruway and 787 was quite backed up plus I saved $2.70 for the day and got good exercise. Strong west wind coming out of the Norman’s Kill Gorge but I knocked it down and climbed slowly in lower gear ⚙. Going to do the same today.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.1° from the due south horizon (-14.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 6:56 pm with the sun in the west (276°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (283°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:34 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 8:01 pm, which is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:38 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 6 mph. Tomorrow will have 13 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over today.

Tonight will be clear 🌃, with a low of 50 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 22nd. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1967.

Funny thing about all this warm weather coming up next week 😎 is I am already thinking a lot about the soups I can make up for cheap this winter, and are a bit disappointed that coming week isn’t going to be good soup weather. I was researching the use of canned broth and bouillon mixes and making my own stock for soup in coming months. 🍞 🍲 Bouillon is cheapest and easiest way to add flavor to soup and other meals, and broth is fine though it seems like a lot of packaging, and once you open it up, you kind of have to use it up quickly. Most bouillon is high in salt though, in part due to it’s use as a preservative, but also taste. The flipside is the salt in bouillon means you can leave it out of the rest of the soup, and soup can keep you going most of the day. Stock is a good way to go if I have time — a whole chicken isn’t that expensive and I think I have a big enough pot. I am thinking soup is a great way to make a lot of healthy meals cheaply, and would be so good with the simple, whole wheat bread like I made up earlier in the week.

On this day in 1965, Super Guppy took it’s first flight. The Aero Spacelines Super Guppy is a large, wide-bodied cargo aircraft that is used for hauling outsize cargo components. 🛬 It was the successor to the Pregnant Guppy, the first of the Guppy aircraft produced by Aero Spacelines, which in turn was named for its resemblance to a pregnant guppy. Five were built in two variants, both of which were colloquially referred to as the “Super Guppy”.

A truly beautiful Labor Day Weekend on tap. 😎 Friday, clear and crisp 74. Might want to wear jeans and even a long shirt for heading up north! Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 81. South wind 3 to 8 mph. Maximum dew point of 59 at 4pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Maximum dew point of 66 at 4pm. Labor Day, sunny heading up to 90. Typical average high for the weekend is 79 degrees.

I packed clothes and filled the water containers 🎒 in preparation for Labor Day Weekend and will finish packing this evening. I want to be to bed well before 9 PM, maybe 8:30 so I can get a very early start tomorrow, and be on the road before 7 AM if at al possible, so I can hit Spectulator by nine or so. Not because I’m planning on working 💤 but I want to get that Hardwood Hill Campsite if at all possible, and then have the hammock set up and be all set up by mid-day, after which I’ll go for a nice bike ride. 🚲 I was thinking on Saturday or Sunday when it’s warmer, one option would be to ride down to Jessup River to cool off in the creek, although I almost want to drive down just so I can bring the tube for floating and cooling off. 🏊‍♀️ Going to be hot come Labor Day, though not excessively hot up north — but it is September. Still with the sun, it could get pretty warm up on Hardwood Hill, should I get that campsite.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Columbus Day Weekend starts ⛵ when the sun will be setting at 6:20 pm with dusk at 6:47 pm. Can you believe only six weeks until that one final big blast of autumn color? On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny, shallow fog and temperatures between 71 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 85 back in 1954.

Blue to Yellow

A slow and warm day for setting up camp for the next five days in the Finger Lakes 🐮

Finally made it to the Finger Lakes National Forest which is exactly my reaction when I pulled to the roadside desperately to piss in my wheel well as all day I’ve been peeing. I didn’t think I drank too much coffee this morning but those peaches and other farm fresh produce I was snacking on my ways to the Finger Lakes National Forest kept my bladder full and looking for trees, rest rooms and stops. Didn’t help I got stuck in bad traffic in Ithaca with construction and a tourist bus that used the back bumper of a flatbed trailer to stop and oh, yeah no power in East Ithaca or working traffic lights. Plus besides all the bathroom breaks, shopping at Walmart in Oneonta and an amazing farm stand in Caroline that made me wish I hadn’t gotten so much in Oneonta. Regardless, lots of good eating over the next few days.

Good evening! Partly clear and 79 degrees at the Finger Lakes National Forest. There is a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 66 degrees. The muggy weather ends tomorrow around 11 pm. 😓 Kind of buggy with the heat and humidity, though I expect things to improve come tomorrow. The real question is how wet will tomorrow be. Not sure, the Finger Lakes this year haven’t been as wet as Albany but not quitgy dry spell like Western New York. Seasonably wet you might say.

Got the big ol campsite ⛺ I wanted on Potomac Road. I admit I kind of raced the last two miles up here after a leisurely drive as I wanted to ensure I got the site I really wanted including swerving to dodge a pothole on the road and maybe even cutting off a driver a bit in determination to get the site though I doubt they were looking to camp here. I did see a camper van who was obviously looking for this site around 4 or 5 pm but I was here by 1:45 and it’s first come first serve. I took Friday morning off for a reason, lol. I really like this site as it’s farther off the road, well shaded but also where my truck is parked in a sunny field. No cell service at camp 🔕 but I look at that as a benefit because I like the quiet 🤫. And my radio 📻 is broke so no endless hours of talking heads 👥 discussing Jason Aldean’s Try that in a Small Town. I don’t need that crap or the endless stream of emails 📧 and notifications on vacation. 🏖

Spent the balance of the afternoon unpacking, organizing and setting up camp 💼 so everything will be perfect 👌 for the next nine days. Did a lot of cooking – chicken, potatoes, onions, peppers and other things for lunch, then a similar thing with frozen samon for dinner. 🐠 I have so much good food to eat it’s hard to know where to start. Diet, lol. 😂 Actually truth be told, I don’t have any cookies or junk food, just solid quality minimal whole fruits and vegetables 🍏 that I’m cooking and eating this week. Had a beer 🍻 but only one and no more then two each day if that all. Had some fresh squeezed lemonade 🍋 with stevia and used the rest of the lemon with the salmon. Yum, I’m eating good. 😋

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌃 , with a low of 67 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 9pm. Northwest wind around 7 mph becoming south in the evening. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1987.

My phone shows a chance of rain ☔ late this evening, so I’ll put away anything I don’t want to get wet before bed like my hammock and store my clean clothes in the cab of my truck to ensure they stay dry. I have a tent 🎪 set up for the dirty clothes, boxes and other camp supplies I’m not immediately using, mostly for organizational purposes. I think I need to get some crates for storing food, like I use on the back of my bicycle 🚲 especially as I have so much fresh stuff that I am not keeping in the cooler as I don’t have the space and I don’t think it strictly necessary but I worry about bruising and disorder in the reusable shopping bags 🛍.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous 🌔 Moon with 82% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (158°) at an altitude of 17° from the horizon, some 233,176 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by January 21st. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The Strugeon 🐡 Moon is on Tuesday, August 1. The darkest hour is at 1:14 am, followed by dawn at 5:23 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:56 am in the east-northeast (63°) and last for 3 minutes and 15 seconds. Sunrise is 59 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:36 am with sun in the east-northeast (70°). Tonight will have 9 hours and 21 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 3 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 3pm. 🌦 High of 73 degrees at 12pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 14th. Maximum dew point of 71 at 12pm. 🏖️ West wind 9 to 15 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1894.

I am not expecting a real nice day tomorrow 🌧️ but I got books to read 📖 and podcasts to listen to and I’ll spend a relaxed day around camp doing some good cooking 🧑‍🍳 healthy ingredients from the bounty I got at Walmart and that farmers market. 🌽 I have a ton of delicious Vadella onions 🧅and lemons, 🍋 and so much else from grapes 🍇 to strawberries 🍓 that I won’t go hungry and if I do I have more salmon, fresh spinach, rice 🍚 beans 🍱 and hot peppers 🌶️. Nice days I’ll head into town or other activities, 🏊‍♂️ rainier stormy days, I’ll tool around the National Forest with Blackie my mountain bike 🚵, hike into the back country and do some fishing 🎣.

In four weeks on August 25 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (286°) at 7:55 pm,🌄 which is 38 minutes and 26 seconds earlier then today. In 2022 on that day, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 87 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 60 degrees. The record high of 99 degrees was set back in 1947. Too soon, I’m not willing to think about summer coming to an end on vacation, lol.

Looking ahead, Average High 70 🎑 is in 5 weeks, September 🍎 is in 5 weeks, Labor Day Weekend Begins 👨‍🏭 is in 5 weeks, Autumn 🍂 is in 8 weeks, Buy Nothing Day 🛍️ is in 17 weeks, December 🎄 is in 18 weeks, Bill of Rights Day 📜 is in 20 weeks, Days are Getting Longer ☀️ is in 21 weeks and 4:30 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 5 months.

Summer day

How many quarters do I need to register my bicycle ? 🪙

The town fee schedule doesn’t list it. I checked the town code, and it says one quarter. Twenty five cents! Cheaper then a payphone, if you can find one. I thought it used to be 75¢ the last bicycle I registered but that was 15 years ago and my memory could be bad. I’ll bring a handful otherwise the town clerk’s office is just going to have to make change from a five.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Fog 🌫 and 66 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 66 degrees. The AQI is only 25 right now, good, but expected to drop into the unhealthy range of 150-200 by afternoon. Look forward to the air burning your lungs and making it hard to breathe with the Cannunks burning their forests. The muggy weather ends Thursday around 2 am. 😓

That said, the first thing in my agenda this morning is to register my bicycle 🚲🎫 with the Town Clerk before heading downtown. I have a $70 hardened steel u-lock 🔒 to secure my bicycle should I decide to park it outside, though my plan is to bring it inside the office 🏢 most days. At lunch time I’ll walk 🚶 up to the hospital 🏥 to visit a friend recovering there. Hopefully at that hour the air pollution won’t be quite as bad. 🌆 Yesterday walked 2.5 miles and rode my bike 28 miles including to the Corning Preserve and Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. 🐸

Started out my morning with a hard boiled egg 🥚, a good source of protein and not so good saturated fats which I will follow up with cream of wheat, fresh blueberries 🫐with a dap of plain non fat Greek yogurt. It’s nice knowing now that should I run low on yogurt or other supplies mid week the grocery store is just a quick ride from home – I figured out a back way involving the rail trail and sprawl roads to avoid Delaware Avenue completely when going to Hannaford. ☺ Cold black coffee ☕ with ice to get me moving.

Once the black beans are done this morning🧆 I should be done cooking for the week as I’ll have plenty of good things to eat all week either fresh, in the freezer or refrigerator. 🐔 Have five remaining hard boiled eggs in the fridge, cold kidney beans waiting for maple syrup, cooked chicken and shrimp, couscous with edamine and spinach, brown rice with edamine and lentils along with all the usual suspects – red and sweet onions, tomatoes, hot and regular peppers, cherries, grapes, blueberries and a long list of other good eats. Getting fresh sweet corn at the farmers market on Wednesday and will enjoy with MSG. Lots of lemons and stevia for ice coldy lemonade 🍋 in the evening. Good eating this week.

Today will be widespread haze and wildfire smoke after 10am. 🚬 Think it’s going to be a half pack kind of day outside this afternoon. Otherwise, mostly sunny ☀, with a high of 87 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 67 at 7am. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1900.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.6° from the due south horizon (-2.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:49 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (300°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:31 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 21 seconds with dusk around 9:03 pm, which is 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the New 🌚 Moon in the borthwest (305°) at an altitude of 0° from the horizon, 251,045 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:47 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 79 degrees. The dew point will be 66 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 33 seconds over yesterday.

This evening 🌆 I plan to ride out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center 🐸 and some walking out there and read 📖 until 8:15 pm when I’ll head home. I have both a front and rear light installed for safety. My new goal 🥅 is to walk 7.5 miles or ride 15 miles daily or any combination of the two. I figure based on calories that 1.7 ridden equals 1.0 miles walked. That said, it takes me roughly 16 – 20 minutes to walk that equal calorie burn on the bicycle in 8-12 minutes.

Tonight will have scattered showers, mainly after 5am. Widespread wildfire smoke and poor air quality. Partly cloudy 🌫, with a low of 67 degrees at 4am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 4am. Southeast wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 73 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1939.

I superglued my boots 👢 so I can get a few more weeks out of them, but I do think I’ll need to replace them come vacation. Might want to bring and wear the old ones while camping 🏕 if the woods is a complete swamp like I fully expect it to be though the Finger Lakes haven’t been quite as wet as locally.

I found I was down to a 36″ waist size for my shorts, 🩳 which I bought another pair on sale this weekend. Amazing thinking I used to get 42″ shorts only a year or two ago, as I liked to have them run big for comfort. They are remarkably comfortable, though very lightweight but that’s good in the heat we’ve had lately.

On this day in 1944, Near the San Francisco Bay, two ships laden with ammunition for the war explode in Port Chicago, California, killing 320. Also on this day, another deadly tragety. 💣 In 1981, A structural failure leads to the collapse of a walkway at the Hyatt Regency in Kansas City, Missouri killing 114 people and injuring more than 200.

A picture perfect summer weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 65 at 9am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Maximum dew point of 62 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

This weekend I’m definitely heading out of town ⛺ probably take off Friday or maybe Monday for a schedule similar to what I had planned for last weekend bar obviously the auto show. 🚘 Might be fun to do the Catskill Scenic Trail 🚲 and get a lot of swimming 🏊 in. I feel like with a little practice and my stronger muscles 💪 I’ll be a good swimmer and great at the diving board. 🌽 Shaul’s is open for lots of good sweet corn and other veggies. 🫑

A week from Friday is summer vacation 🏖 and I’m ready for it. I’m hoping for some nice weather, if anything Western NY has been quite dry compared to any place locally. Hopefully that trend continues into early August. 🌻 Really too far out to know for sure but that’s the week I have off rain or shine. I’m hoping for nice warm weather though for sure.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until World Mosquito Day 🐞 when the sun will be setting at 7:50 pm with dusk at 8:18 pm. On that day in 2022, we had another hot old late summer day – partly sunny and temperatures between 88 and 70 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1916.

 Breeze

55 miles so far with Blackie

Good morning! Clouds after the rain this morning and 75 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 73 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 1 am.

Well yesterday wasn’t a wash out but last night especially late it rained quite a bit and will rain more this afternoon. ☔ I wish I could have gotten out of town this weekend but it was not a great weekend. I did finally break down and get new mountain bike, 🚲 which I call Blackie, though it’s more of a silver color. Like anything it’s both good and bad. I ended up getting a Marlin 5 mountain bike, it’s heavy and slow on the roads but awesome on gravel and dirt packed trails. ⛰ I totally get blown past by the road bikes on the rail trail but it will be great on gravel up at camp. Gearing ⚙ is a bit low though on asphalt but is great for climbing steep hills slowly.

Finally had those oatmeal banana 🍌 pancakes 🥞 that I love this morning, then rode down to the Corning Preserve for a while in the rain, mostly to test the brakes out in the rain – those hydraulic disc brakes are awesome even in the rainy weather.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 79 degrees at 5pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 1st. Maximum dew point of 75 at 1pm. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1900.

Every week I try to find a new food to add to my meals. This week edamine – used it last night with spinach and couscous with some tuna fish to add some omega 3 fats to maximize the benefits of eating fat soluble vitamins.🥗Today I’m cooking brown rice with lentils and edamine (both I would note are soy though edamine is full immature seed like you might find in a farm field). Mostly plan to freeze that for later in the week.

Also cooked red kidney beans which is such a good snack on a hot day with sugar free maple syrup and have soaking black beans to use in cold lunches and dinners usually with chopped red onions, mushrooms and peppers. 🍲 Beans are a great source of protein and often are very low in saturated fats. Cold black beans and red onions are the best on a hot day. I cooked and froze a lot of chicken breasts last week, will pull them out of the freezer as needed to add to various dishes.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.8° from the due south horizon (-2° vs. 6/21). In 1956, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus closes its very last “Big Tent” show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, due to changing economics all subsequent circus shows will be held in arenas. 🤹‍♂️ 🎪 Now the only thing in tents is fireworks dealers and car dealers when their show rooms are being renovated.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until 6:30 Sunrise 🌇 when the sun will be setting at 7:16 pm with dusk at 7:43 pm. Beach Kites

A pleasant evening last night before the rain later today. 🌧️

For the first time in a while I sat out back until late into the evening. After a hot day it was a very pleasant evening. Today is more cloudy and humid, a lot of rain is on tap for the next few days.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Clouds and 70 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk out to Five. ☁ Calm wind. The dew point is 68 degrees. The skies will clear Tuesday around 2 am. But first, 4-6 inches of rain. ☔ Best to get my steps in early. 👣

Walking 🚶 out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center which may be one of the last times in the near future. Bicycling will be so much quicker, even if I take the long way to avoid traffic and hills. This morning to change it up, heading out Fisher Boulevard and will walk back Delaware Ave, though that way is a bit more narrow. Already when the sun is out I’m feeling the humidity. 😰 Really dripping in that sweat.

Today will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2pm, then rain and thunderstorms likely between 2pm and 5pm, then rain likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 81 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 23rd. Maximum dew point of 72 at 11am. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 103 was set in 1936.

After I do my walk 🚶 I’ll probably cook up the chicken 🐔 for the week and lunch. Hot day for turning on the oven but I figure I’ll take a cold shower after cooking and then I’m heading out to the folks house in the evening which with the rain should give time for everything to cool down. 🍲 Home cooked chicken breast are so much healthier than the frozen ones and I can refreeze them. Also will toast the remaining chickpeas I have soaked. 🍘

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.8° from the due south horizon (-1.1° vs. 6/21). At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 69 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 8 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday besides getting a bicycle 🚲 and going shopping 🛒 it was a very hot and humid kind of quiet day. Besides the morning walk around the park I ended going back to the town park 🏞 to watch the sun set and went to the library 📚 for a few hours to heat the heat. I thought about plinking down the seven or eight bucks to swim in the town park pool 🏊‍♂️ but being do hot and humid you never know when a thunderstorm ⛈ would come rolling through. One clap of thunder and the pool closes for a half hour. 💸 I tried making hummus and that was a disaster after buying expensive Tanani sauce. I paid good money for the ingredients, I’m going to have to try again. 😖

Tonight will rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then rain and thunderstorms between 8pm and 11pm, then rain and possibly a thunderstorm after 11pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. 🌧 Low of 66 degrees at 12am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 6pm. 🏖️ West wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 47 occurred back in 1963.

Looking, next Sunday is Last Sunset After 8:30 PM 🌆 with dusk at 9:04 pm. On that day in 2022, we had a rather hot day, that was mostly sunny and temperatures between 88 and 60 degrees. Did I spend it at the Potholers? Yes. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1900.

Double X

Those bananas and oatmeal pancakes are good on this Saturday morning 🥞

To think all these years I used to eat pancakes made out of white flour, sugar and whatever other chemicals that are in grocery store pancake mix compared to just whole grain oatmeal, a banana and some water run through a food processor and fried with a pan with just a little bit of non stick spray. I just have gotten to hate all prepared mixes and recipes you find on the internet and cook books with 20,000 ingredients and steps which all involve cooking using PFOAs topped pans with lard and substitutes, sugar and substitutes, along with a ton of added salt. But maybe my tastes have changed as I’ve lost weight or you care far more about nutrition then taste. I don’t do portion control but I also don’t eat crap anymore that doesn’t fill my stomach with good nutritious food.

At any rate, Good morning! Happy Saturday. Can you believe it’s already the weekend? 😃Mostly cloudy and 71 degrees at the Elm Ave Town Park . ⛅ Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. Going to hot and humid 😰 out later so I figure walk 🚶 now before it gets too ungodly hot out later.

Woke up around 5:15 as a fire truck 🚒🧑‍🚒came roaring through the neighborhood and I fell asleep pretty early last night, as I cut my evening walk short ⛈ as I was sure it would thunderstorm and pour before I could get home. I also started early after a quick cold dinner of kidney beans with sugar free maple 🍁 syrup. 10 miles on the dot yesterday, I managed to squeeze it out by a quick walk in the Elm Ave Park followed by some laps at Swift Wetland Preserve near where I live then a few laps back inside. Also did 40 flights of stairs up and down at work – two times up and down (morning, lunch, home) to the 18th floor plus four flights in the LOB. Been two weeks of only using the stairs at work. 🧗‍♂️

I was up early but didn’t start walking 🚶 until 6:45 this morning. Had said pancakes 🥞 first topped with the remaining farmers market blueberries. They were good 🫐 but paying $7 for a pint of fresh blueberries even in these inflationary times seems like highway robbery when you can just as healthy frozen 3 lb for a few more bucks. It’s good to treat yourself once and a while. Plus I didn’t want to go to the store until today. 💸 Truth be told what I really want is fresh tomatoes 🍅 and sweet corn 🌽 from the farmers market.

Today will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 86 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 10am. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.

I would like to get in about four 4⃣ miles of walking 🚶 this morning before heading home 🪰 but the deer fly may change my mind first. Doing the nature trail loop at Elm Ave Park that I do most evenings. Then head home. I want to pull out of the freezer the remaining chicken 🐔 breast I have to thaw in the fridge for cooking in the oven, probably tomorrow morning early and then refreezing cooked portions for future years. I no longer get the precooked strips because they’re loaded with fat and salt to say nothing of preservatives and so much more expensive than what I can prepare myself and freeze. And also cook up the black beans I have as they’re so good cold with red onions, especially in the heat. Also want to try to make hummus out of the chickpeas I soaked earlier in the week and then roast the rest to mix with blueberries, raspberries,, strawberries and walnuts. 🍓🥜🫐

Then I want to go to the library 📚 and briefly study the spec sheets a bit more on the bicycles I’m researching 🔍 before heading over to Steiners Sports in Glenmont to hopefully check out the Trek Marlin 5 or 6 and the Trek Verve 2, and maybe the Dual Sport 2 though I’m leaning towards a mountain bike and the Trek brand due to the local popularity and parts and service availability. Then I’ll head over to Market 32 and Walmart for groceries. 🛒 My current lack of frozen fruit and plain Greek yogurt is kind of a bummer especially knowing how hot it’s expected to be by evening.

If Steiner is a bust for getting a bicycle 🚲, I’ll head to Downtube in the afternoon to look there. Or if I like what Steiner has but they only have my size in Hudson it will be a road trip. They’re Hudson location is also open on Sunday so I could do that tomorrow too. Who knows how this will go. 🤷‍♂️

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.9° from the due south horizon (-0.9° vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:54 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (295°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (302°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 70 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 12 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 5 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7pm. Mostly cloudy 🌫️, with a low of 66 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 7pm. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1963.

I was so sure I had that dentist appointment next week 🦷but I am wrong it would appear as I haven’t got an appointment reminder. I called and texted the dentist on Friday but it was after they had closed for the day. I do hope to get out of town next weekend, maybe tacking on Friday and or Monday. ⛺ Maybe just Schoharie especially if I have the bicycle for the Catskill Scenic Trail. And practice my swimming 🏊 strokes before vacation, which with my weight loss I should be a much stronger swimmer. If next weekend looks bad there is always the free Nature Bus to Thacher Park. 🚍 I haven’t done the Nature Bus yet this year. 🆓

Looking ahead, next Saturday is Cow Appreciation Day 🐂 when the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm with dusk at 9:05 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 57 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. Burgers and steak 🍔 are a good treat on occasion and I do like skim milk in coffee ☕ at times, and plain Greek yogurt remains wonderful 🍨 but I admit I’ve cut back a lot due to calories and especially the omega 6 saturated fat in cattle. But they’re such wonderful animals for protecting grass lands while putting the land to use in a sustainable fashion. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1997.

Across the Lake

It’s going to get hot out later ☀

Those lazy, hazy crazy days of summer are here minus maybe the hot dogs, pretzels and beer. Time is marching on the world changes in your forties.

Good morning! Happy Hot Thursday. To be predicted, it’s the hottest time of the year. Mostly sunny 😎with fog 🌫 around and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. The muggy weather ends Wednesday around 7 pm. 😓

Another hot summer day ahead 🏖 though I’ll be spending it my air conditioned office and usually it will be cooling down by evening when I get home. Out for the morning walk before it gets too hot out. 10 1/2 miles walked yesterday, climbed up and down 36 flights of stairs in the office as usual.

Red kidney are cooking down in the kitchen, 🍲 they will be good with maple 🍁 syrup in the evening when it’s hot out. I got fresh blueberries at the farmers market which where $7 which seems much too expensive but inflation. 🔵 I’m running low on food and supplies but I don’t know what I want to buy and eat with the heat. 🛒 Next time I go shopping, I do want to get some freezer bags, as they’re good for freezing rice and also things like black beans for compact carrying while camping. They can be reused a few times too.

This morning I’m thinking just black coffee ☕ cream of wheat with the fresh blueberries for breakfast 🥣. I do need to get milk 🥛 as what I have in the refrigerator has spoiled. But not this morning. I’m also out of cottage cheese and Greek yogurt and frozen fruit.

Yesterday’s meals where too bland. Too much kale and brown rice. 🍚 Easy and healthy but bleh. Makes it easy and healthy but not so easy to keep on the diet going forward. I was really into kale for a while eating multiple pounds of week, but I’m getting tired of it, much like the tofu. Today I am doing chicken, peas, corn, black beans and red peppers for lunch. Pre-cooked shrimp 🦐 are thawing in the fridge, I’m going to mix with the brown rice and tomatoes for dinner and have red kidney beans with maple syrup for dessert. I put chickpeas in the fridge for soaking, I’ll either roast them to toss in with fresh blueberries, strawberries and raspberries with walnuts with a snack. Walnuts are good but loaded with fat, though at least it has a decent ratio of Omega 3. I might also make hummus, which I’ll either need to get tahini or sesame seeds to cook up.

Today will be sunny and hot ☀ , with a high of 91 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 9am. Heat index values as high as 95. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1886.

As I’m back on the Trek FX 2 bicycle as my choice, I might try to get up to the Downtube to talk to them about potentially buying that bicycle 🚲 and doing a test ride. I’m getting tired of studying the pros and cons of bicycles and want to commit sooner than later so I can take delivery of the bike and finally be on the road, both for commuting and getting around town. I want to break the bicycle in well before heading out to the Finger Lakes in three weeks. An additional expense I overlooked was a good quality U-lock that resists bolt cutters ✂️ which is going to add $75-100 go the cost, but I might be better off getting that on the internet rather than at the bike shop. I also want to get a rear luggage rack so I can tie a small milk crate style storage containers for keeping lunch and supplies on me when doing day trips on the bicycle 🚲 in the Finger Lakes. 💸 Looking at around or maybe slightly below $50 for that. Then another under $50 for the combination of buying a very basic digit speedometer / odometers and lights both for safety and do night riding in the National Forest after watching the sun set. 🌇

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:01 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.1° from the due south horizon (-0.7° vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:54 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (303°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:37 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 26 seconds with dusk around 9:10 pm, which is 19 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:56 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 82 degrees. The dew point will be 69 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 14 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 57 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌃 , with a low of 68 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 69 at 7pm. South wind 5 to 7 mph. Another sticky night sleeping 😴 with the fan roaring. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1979.

On this day in 1947, The AK-47 goes into production in the Soviet Union. Even after almost seven decades, the model and its variants remain the most popular and widely used assault rifles in the world 🪖 because of their substantial reliability under harsh conditions, low production costs compared to contemporary Western weapons, availability in virtually every geographic region and ease of use. ⚔ I bet it would be fun to own one someday, in a freer state when I own my own land. Probably fun for ventilating a burn barrel, lol.

A hot summer weekend ahead. 🏖 Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 69 at 9am. Sunday, a chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Maximum dew point of 70 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

That said, maybe not the nicest weekend ever especially Sunday with the clouds. 🤷‍♂️ One more weekend to decide and acquire a bicycle 🚲 then hopefully get out camping 🏕 the following weekend after my dentist appointment 🦷 assuming that the weather is decent. I’m thinking Schoharie County, the Mine Kill Pool, the Catskill Scenic Trail from Grand Gorge to Stamford it maybe even beyond there. 🚲 Also maybe on the Saturday bike from Old Blenheim Bridge up and over Bear Ladder Road 🐻 then down to Fultonhsm by Shauls to get ice cream. 🍦 If I have the rack on the bicycle by then not only can I carry lunch but also get some veggies. If not both of these things are good for the following week or after summer vacation. 🏖 Pool closes Labor Day but the best bicycling and farm stand finds are certainly in September and October. 🎃

Summer vacation starts Friday July 29th 🏖 with plans to head straight out to the Finger Lakes National Forest and set up camp ⛺ by noon time. Then have all afternoon to unpack and do a nice bicycle 🚲 ride and enjoy the afternoon from the forest maybe with some fishing 🎣 and a sunset 🌇 to a start things off. Watkins Glen on Saturday to paddle and swim 🏊‍♂️, though I may want to get to the park 🏞 early to ensure parking 🅿.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Ugly Truck Day 🚚 when the sun will be setting at 8:29 pm with dusk at 9:01 pm. On that day in 2022, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 97 and 72 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1991.
