April 28, 2021 10 AM Update

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. It seems odd, being mid-week after coming to the Adirondacks. ⛰ Kind of hard to get back into the routine, especially as I have to put on my suit and head downtown. Four weeks to Flower Moon 🌕 . That pink moon a few nights ago was pretty for sure. Mostly cloudy and 53 degrees in Delmar, NY . ☁ Calm wind. The dew point is 48 degrees. The skies will clear Saturday around 5 am.

Didn’t get an early start this morning, 😴 so I ended up missing my morning walk. Made cheese Bisquick biscuits, and extra pot of coffee ☕ and got on with my day. Maybe it was a mistake to not do my morning walk, but it’s tough to get back into the routine after the Adirondacks. Still getting unpacked but any gear that I don’t need at home, I’ll leave in the truck as it will be only a matter of time before I go nrth or west. 🏕

Today will have a slight chance of showers between 1pm and 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Cloudy 🌥, with a high of 63 degrees at 2pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 27th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 4pm. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1990. There was a dusting of snow in 1966.❄

I have a meeting downtown, 🏢 so I will be putting on my suit later on 👨‍💼 and heading downtown mid-day and will work in the office until 5 PM. 👞 My dress shoes are still in the office since the last time I was there before the pandemic. Not been a lot of formal business meetings, 💼 but slowly things are getting back to normal. After which I am going over to John Wolcott’s house ✉️ in search of a long lost Fort Orange document. While I still have to wear the muzzle on my face on elevators and the bus, 😷 as of Tuesday mid-day I am two weeks out from my second vaccine, so I am good. 💉 Probably wearing a mask is good though to keep from getting colds or even a minor case of COVID, although the risk of the later is quite low two weeks after Pfizer, with a 95 percent effectiveness. 👩‍🔬 Science is an amazing thing, even though at times it can lead us astray.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.8° from the due south horizon (-9.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:17 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (284°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (291°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:56 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 8:27 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:06 pm. At sunset, lookout for rain 🌧 and thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 58 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. This evening could be quite wet, I’m bringing the umbrella into work. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between midnight and 2am, then a chance of showers after 2am. 🌧 Low of 49 degrees at 6am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 11th. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1947.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 10 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. 😃 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 51. Sunday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Chance of precipitation is 30%. 😎 Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees. I am still thinking this forecast is overly optimistic for the weekend, and it will be rainier then one might hope. I am going to stick close to town, but if it’s nicer in two weeks I might go to Brookfield or back to ADKs, maybe tacked on with some days of remote work in the woods if I don’t have downtown meetings. 🏕

As previously noted, next Wednesday is Cinco de Mayo 🤠 when the sun will be setting at 8:04 pm with dusk at 8:36 pm. On that day in 2020, we had sunny and temperatures between 59 and 38 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.

April 23, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Going to Be a Beautiful Friday! Maybe not super warm, but an improvement over yesterday. Two weeks to 8 PM Sunset 🌇 . Summer is coming. Less then two months now, and we could certainly have some nice warm days come May. Even mid-next week looks quite pleasant. This morning, it’s sunny and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. Cold start to the morning, but it will be fairly warm this afternoon bar the breeze. Wearing the hoodie over my shirt for the morning walk. 🚶‍♀️

Yesterday, I went over to John Wolcott’s House 🔎 and spent several hours going through his Pinksterfest archives, looking for a misplaced long-lost letter about the Fort Orange dig. ✉️ Didn’t find it but there was a lot of interesting things about the history of the Pinksterfest 🌸 and the Mid-crosstown Arterial in his files. 📂 I wanted to go to the Earth Day Rally 🌎 but by the time I got there after work, the rally had already broken up. Part of it was I didn’t catch the bus I wanted to get downtown, 🚌 because the bus schedule still has the reduced rush-hour service, and I didn’t check it real careful. The Earth Day rally was supposed to go until 6 PM but I think it ended early with the police protests 🚓 in the other part of the city. 👊 Truth be told, I am just a lot less interested politics and citizen activism these days. 🦋 Save the Pine Bush is my big thing.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 58 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 15th. Breezy, with a west wind 8 to 13 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2007. 2.4 inches of snow fell back in 1956.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 60° from the due south horizon (-10.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:08 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (282°). 📸

Today I am going to get packed for the Adirondacks 🏕 as my hope is head north tonight for a long weekend, possibly into next week. 🌲 🌲🌲 🌲 I am thinking about working remotely on Monday from the Adirondacks, as long as the weather is nice enough and maybe staying into Tuesday, a bit in a different campsite so to limit my stay to 3 nights in any one location. I have a lot going on today, so it’s going to be busy for packing, and I want to try to get to store mid-day and maybe down to the laundromat when I work, or maybe I have enough clothes if I wait and reuse some jeans — that is if I pick up another pair today. 👖 Going to be a cold night up north with the wind, but I’ll have my heater ♨️ and I can build a small fire for warmth. 🔥 still going to be some snow to deal with up north.

Really starting to get a bit low on clothes, 👕 and as I haven’t bought any in over a year as I’ve not needed as much working from home. 👞 My dress shoes are still in the office, sitting drawer they’ve been since the beginning of the pandemic. Going to need a good polish when I go get them, as come May I think I’ll be in office more, although it gets tricky with all the remaining COVID-restrictions. 👨‍💼 That and I haven’t been to the laundromat or my parents house in over a week.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (288°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:47 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 3 seconds with dusk around 8:16 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous 🌔 Moon in the southeast (131°) at an altitude of 45° from the horizon, 231,553 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:53 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 45 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over yesterday.

Today my cellphone renews 📲 and I’m hoping that will go well. Still not sure if my new credit card is working 💳, those temporary $1 authorizations that caught my eye last weekend still haven’t dropped off the bill. I should maybe call the credit card company to ensure my card is still active. I am starting to think it was all just a system glitch with the dozen or so $1 authorizations, maybe something went wrong when I went to buy milk 🥛 the other day at the store, and my worry is just that. Pure silliness. But you can’t be too careful these days. Need to make sure that’s straightened out before I go north.

Also, we are doing another recording session with John Wolcott and some of other Save the Pine Bush people for our history project 📜 tonight, but if I am going north, I am not going to be able to participate. But it is what it is, I’ve wanted to get out of town for some weeks now. 🏕 It should be a real nice night, but maybe a bit chilly. Maybe a little snow up north. Probably be setting up after dark, but I have flashlights 🔦 and lights, as I have my therapy session at 4 PM and I’m sure it will run after 5 PM. 👨‍⚕️ My lantern is working well. 🏮 Also I might have to work late, so who knows, but I’d really like to get out of town today.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 41 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 25th. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 25 occurred back in 1965.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 68 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 10th. West wind 8 to 10 mph. Should be a very nice spring day. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2001. 1.2 inches of snow fell back in 1967.❄

I am chewing over my options for hikes on Saturday, but I am still leaning towards Pine Orchard. 🌲🌲, although there are a handful of other options. There are a lot of hikes I haven’t done over the years, but one thing to consider is how muddy the trails will be. It might actually be better to just do a road hike to stay out of the mud. I’ll have to think about it, especially if I am planning to spend part of next week up north.

Looking ahead to Sunday, rain likely, mainly before 2pm. 🌧 Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Southeast wind 5 to 9 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

Seems like it will be wet on Sunday, but actually not that bad when you consider total precipitation. ⛈ It would be fun to work up north on Monday, maybe sit out by Lake Pleasant listening to some music using either my laptop or phone for work. Might be a bit cool on Monday but I can wear a jacket and sun will feel real nice. Then I might head home on Monday or find somewhere and stay through Tuesday or Wednesday. 😎 Mason Lake isn’t a option though for another month as the road is closed due to mud season and frost coming out of the ground.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 8 PM Sunset 🌇 when the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm with dusk at 8:33 pm. On that day in 2020, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 65 and 43 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 67 degrees. That will be real nice. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1930.

April 21, 2021 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? A soon to be very wet Hump Day, of course. 🐪 ☔ 🥛 But maybe only briefly, looks like a fast moving front out front of snow out west, which will hit warm air and be rain here. I’m sure that dairy camel in Vermont won’t be happy. Five weeks to Flower Moon 🌕 . Put a flower in your hair. 🌼 Those days of daisies can’t be that far away. Rain and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☔ There is a north breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. ☃️

Out for the morning walk with a rain coat on, ☔ because while it looks like the rain has passed everything is wet for now. But I think is more is coming, and while it might be dun for now, it will return. 🌧 But it at least will be done for the weekend, at least Saturday. 🐲 Listening to Puff the Magic Dragon, a song that might have been more appropriate for 420. That said, despite being perfectly legal, I didn’t smell much cannabis smoke yesterday. 🌾 I always thought restrictions on marijuana were awful silly and racist, mostly used to go after the colored and poor. A good agricultural crop, even though I’m too cheap to smoke. 🚬

“A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant’s rings make way for other toys
One gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff, that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar”
“His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane
Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave
So Puff, that mighty dragon, sadly slipped into his cave”

A bit chilly for the morning walk 🚶🏻 in my t-shirt 👕 and vest and the air is damp with a taste of cattle and manure on it. 🐮. I’ve spent enough time in the Finger Lakes National Forest to know that taste well. That said when the sun ☀ peaks out its pretty nice. Going to miss my morning walks 🚶🏻 when I go back to working downtown. 🚍 But on nice days when I don’t have to dress up for clients 👨🏻‍🏫 I’ll walk down to the express bus stop 🚏, assuming they restore that service at some point. Then I can do my walks on the Emperor’s Plaza or in the Concourse. 🏢

This morning will rain, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. 🌦 High of 51 degrees at 1pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 31st. Maximum dew point of 44 at 12pm. 🏖️ Okay, maybe not beach weather. But don’t worry, the muggers are waiting with their dew points in the seventies. North wind 5 to 11 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1923. 0.6 inches of snow fell back in 1947.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 59.4° from the due south horizon (-11.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:06 pm with the sun in the west (281°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (287°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:44 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 8:14 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous 🌔 Moon in the south-southeast (160°) at an altitude of 64° from the horizon, 236,948 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:50 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain showers likely before 10pm, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 10pm and 1am, then a chance of snow showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 31 degrees at 3am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 31st. Northwest wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1947.

Weekend forecast remains true, great weather Saturday, showers Sunday. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Maximum dew point of 40 at 8pm. 🌞 Sunday, showers likely, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Chance of precipitation is 60%. ☔ Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees. I am thinking I will get packed on Thursday and Friday, and do my laundry then before heading up north for the weekend, probably Friday or maybe Saturday. Not totally sure.

Like so many Americans I wonder when life returns back to normal. 🏢 I watch the building traffic on the road in front of my apartment, keep checking the Twitter and bus schedule. 🚍 I have a meeting this afternoon and I wonder if I’ll get the news 📰 about when the building downtown reopens. I’m a bit anxious. Tomorrow I renew my cell phone plan 📱 and I suspect this will be the last month I’ll need the data plan but I’m fine with that as I like the walk down to the library. 📚 I’m sure it won’t be long before that’s fully re-opened. Kind of wanted to do a remote work trip to the Finger Lakes but I’m not sure if that’s going to happen before I return downtown.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Cinco de Mayo 🤠 when the sun will be setting at 8:00 pm with dusk at 8:31 pm. With the COVID mostly in the rear view mirror, it might be more typical Cinco de Mayo, although I’m not sure if all the watering holes will be open if they exist anymore. On that day in 2020, we had sunny and temperatures between 59 and 38 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.

Sunset last night at Long Pond

April 18, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Average High is 60 🌷! Three weeks to Mothers Day 👩‍ . Soon time to get the Frank Zappa record out 🎼 while looking at the tulips at Washington Park. Mostly cloudy with a few breaks of sun and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ Calm wind.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 59 degrees at 2pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 17th. Northwest wind 3 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1976. 2.7 inches of snow fell back in 1887.❄

No big plans for today, but after I take my shower 🛀 I’m thinking of hiking down to Van Dyke Preserve and then back out to Five Rivers. 🐦 I also have some coding projects I’m working on, along with fixing a long-standing bug in the blog code that occasionally causes posts to appear too early or stick on the front page when they shouldn’t appear. Kind of the same thing I did yesterday, spending several hours looking at birds and wildlife at Five Rivers, although with the cold wet weather, there were fewer wildlife but I think I spotted a piebald deer 🦌 but he was gone before I could get a picture.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 58.3° from the due south horizon (-12.5° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:03 pm with the sun in the west (280°). 📸

The sunset is in the west-northwest (286°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:41 pm after setting for 3 minutes with dusk around 8:10 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter 🌓 Moon in the west-southwest (243°) at an altitude of 61° from the horizon, 245,556 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:46 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌓, with a low of 39 degrees at 4am. Typical for tonight. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2020, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1875.

Found another real long-standing bug on the blog. 🐞 For years, I’ve had issues with posts appearing too early and staying sticky on the blog. Turns out I was just missing the GMT date field on my blog, when creating new blog posts programmatically, Not sure how I missed that but I’ve been coding things incorrectly for years on the blog.

Been having more problems with my credit card. 💳 I went to buy milk yesterday, 🥛 and I was locked out of the card, with it declined at the retailer and I ended up paying cash. I got home and saw a few pending charges I did not make, so it looks like my card has been hacked again — only had the new card for a week and only so far bought milk with it and went to Walmart twice. I didn’t think it was that easy to hack the chip-on-cards as they use one-time tokens, and I haven’t swiped anywhere yet. Monitoring for other pending charges, but so far nothing. Hoping I won’t have to get yet another card. Need to get this figured out as I have to renew my cellphone/hotspot by Wednesday. Aggravating to say the least, especially as I don’t do much online shopping but I like the convenience of not having to have exact change.

Really hoping next week to get out of town. 🏕 It looks like by then the snow will be gone, and while Sunday is problematic, I think the weather will be a lot better for Saturday. 😎 Things could shift weather-wise, but I’m hopeful. Not sure if I will drive up north on Friday after my therapy session, or wait for Saturday morning early to head north and hike then camp. 🚘 Kind of would like to do two nights. It just seems like every weekend that I have free it turns out to be cloudy and rainy. And then we don’t end up getting much rain at all.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Mothers Day 👩‍ when the sun will be setting at 8:04 pm with dusk at 8:36 pm. On that day in 2020, we had cold, partly sunny and temperatures between 45 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 67 degrees. We hit a record high of 93 back in 1979.

Last Week

April 16, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Three weeks to 8 PM Sunset 🌇 . Snow showers and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ There is a north breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. The skies will clear Sunday around 6 pm.

It’s so yucky outside, I did not pick a very good day to take off from work this week, and I don’t know if I will be getting north or west this weekend. It was the weekend I had planned, but things have kind of had a monkey wrench 🙉 thrown in them by the weather. That said, maybe it’s for the best, as I’m not really feeling well at this point. Just really tired 😩, I woke up middle of the night last night and couldn’t get back to sleep. Probably too much screentime watching the Youtube, plus I missed both of my walks yesterday. Maybe being off the clock today I can get in a good nap. 🛏

Today will snow before 8am, then rain and snow likely between 8am and 10am, then rain likely after 10am. 🌧 High of 45 degrees at 5pm. 14 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 18th. North wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2012. 5.3 inches of snow fell back in 1983.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 57.6° from the due south horizon (-13.2° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:01 pm with the sun in the west (279°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (285°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:39 pm after setting for 3 minutes with dusk around 8:08 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter 🌓 Moon in the west (264°) at an altitude of 43° from the horizon, 249,928 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:44 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 44 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.

I have been super bummed out that I haven’t been able to get out for my walk 🚶‍♀️ with the rain and the shittiness I felt on Thursday after the COVID-vaccine, 💉 although I finally am starting to recover. After the shower, 🚿 I was feeling better. I really should shower more frequently, but I’ve kind of gotten into that dirty way of living being fully remote with many days with no video meetings. 📹 That really knocks the shit out of you, but it’s probably better then being in the hospital for weeks on a ventilator. 🏥 While I kind of like remote work in the summer months, COVID isn’t nice. 🗣 At any rate, I’m hoping to get out for a walk some time today. It looks like rain has stopped for now, but I see more in the distance. 😀

Tonight will have a chance of rain before 4am, then a slight chance of rain and snow. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 39 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 19th. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1971.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a high of 53 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 4th. Northwest wind around 7 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2002. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1965.❄

Looking ahead to Sunday, a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 58. 🌥 Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Typical average high for the weekend is 59 degrees.

I keep playing this game that the next weekend looks better. 🏕 It’s so obnoxious and it seems like my schedule just gets tighter and tighter lately. 🗜 I really want to get out of town, but not just for one night in cloudy and cold weather. 🎣 Maybe I should just plan on another walk out to Five Rivers tomorrow. 🌲 The thing is after all the rain things are going to be super wet and soggy. 👢 While I have my therapy appointment at 4 PM next Friday, 🗣 I could either go north after that or maybe on Saturday and hike first thing then camp. I have a feeling the therapy session could go beyond 5 PM, although it’s close enough to the ramp to the Thruway, and days are getting longer. 🌆 I could work up in Speculator, and if the weather is nice enough and snow-free, maybe camp somewhere around Austin Falls for part of work week. 💻 I really don’t mind working, sitting next to Lake Pleasant or going to Speculator Library when I need a lot of bandwidth. 📶

At any rate, I’m hoping to get to away a little more and work from the Adirondacks before office life returns, 🏣 probably some time in May. 🌺 I was thinking it would be May 1st, similar to what is happening in New York City, but truth be told at this time I have no ideas. I would think they’d have to give us a week or two notice, just because some people have gone truly remote — pretty far from Albany. ⛰

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until 8 PM Sunset 🌇 when the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm with dusk at 8:33 pm. On that day in 2020, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 65 and 43 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 67 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 1930.

West

April 13, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Two weeks to Pink Moon 🌕  to celebrate the Pinkster. 🌺 Not sure if related, but I saw some of dogwoods are out in bloom and they smell nice this time of year. Partly cloudy and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ Calm wind. Still a bit gray out this morning, but it appears it will be quite nice by mid-day, with weather more like late April then mid-April. But warm enough for a pleasant morning walk. 🚶🏻 I’ll take a shower when I have some downtime at work, and get ready for heading downtown on the bus 🚌 at 11:30 for my COVID-shot.  🚿

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 64 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 28th. Another real nice spring day, already have my windows open. 🌺 Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became heavy rain by afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 1977. 5.5 inches of snow fell back in 1950.❄

Busy day ahead with work than downtown at my lunch break on the bus 🚍 for round two of my COVID-19 Shot. 💉 Then come home for a bit and then drive over to the therapist. 💭 I’m really looking forward to learning more about my thought process and discussing my feelings and sometimes conservative views, my love of all things fire be in the Pine Bush or burn barrels 🔥 and off-grid living. 🏡 So many things to chew over these days. 🐮 It’s really hard to find a neutral party to talk to, especially when most of my close friends and colleagues are generally quite liberal. 🏙 And it’s only a $25 first incidence appropriation for the copay. 💵 If I decide it’s worthwhile I’ll budget some more. I hope I become a better person, so I can be better at making more money. Then back home, do a little more work 💻 and maybe then go down to the park with book. 📖

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.6° from the due south horizon (-14.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 6:58 pm with the sun in the west (277°). 📸

The sunset is in the west-northwest (283°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:35 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 8:04 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon in the west (278°) at an altitude of 13° from the horizon, 252,236 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:40 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 61 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Definitely a good night for reading down at the park 🏞 although I have to watch out for ticks. Maybe no sitting in the grass. 🌾 Today will have 13 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 45 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 8th. Calm wind. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1973.

After rain and snow up north on Thursday and Friday, looking at a pretty good weekend. 😎 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 57. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 61. Maximum dew point of 38 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 59 degrees.

Maybe more clouds up north, but I think it will be a good weekend to get out of town, especially if I camp on a hard, well drained area and avoid trails that are particularly wet, maybe preferring road hikes. 🏕 The fire danger should be much reduced after Thursday and Friday, 🔥 which is good because I’ll want a small fire to stay warm with all that cold and damp. Rivers will be ragging for fishing, but I might choose to fish the Sacanadaga in Wells before the open the hydro-dam for the morning power ramp,⚡ 💦 or Chittenango Creek not too far downstream where water levels might be high if I go out west. 🎣 Still need to renew my fishing license, hoping I can do that at Wally World or I might hit up a hick-town town hall to get it. 🎫

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Pink Moon 🌕 when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. We were discussing the Pinksterfest Albany used to have 🌺 before it got cut due to budgetary concerns in favor of a bigger Tulipfest. 🌷On that day in 2020, we had rain showers, cold, cloudy and temperatures between 46 and 37 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

April 12, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Five weeks to Average High is 70 🐮. Kind of a chilly day, but at the same time, warm enough that at least for now my windows are open. Rather have the fresh air and dress in layers. Warmer weather is certain though at this point. 🌡Cloudy, damp but so far not a lot of rain and 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☔ There is a east breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. The skies will clear around 2 am.

This has been the story of the past 24 hours. 🌂 Everything is very bone dry, and the rain has been more clouds then actual wetness. While we have many chances for rain this week, I am not certainly expecting very high stream levels when I get north this weekend, but hopefully at least the fire risk will be lower. 🔥 I’ll probably just work from home all day, as I haven’t used that much internet bandwidth lately, as the weather sucks. 💻

Yesterday morning though, was pretty nice when I was out Five Rivers 🐸 with so much wildlife out and about, and a lot of sun before the area got overrun by noisy kids and yuppies as the morning progressed into mid-day. I really should do more early morning walks out to Five Rivers when I’m home on the weekends. I tend to sleep in a bit too late at times. Sunday dinner with the folks was good 🥣 although at times listening to the elderly parents reminds me that all people start to sound like cranky old grandparents at some point on their lives. 🧓 👵 I’ll try to remain young as long as possible. 🤠 Maybe wear my cowboy hat more to cover my own gray hairs.

Today will have a chance of rain. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 54 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 6th. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 84 was set in 1977. 3.3 inches of snow fell back in 1962.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.2° from the due south horizon (-14.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 6:56 pm with the sun in the west (277°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (283°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:34 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 8:03 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon in the west (281°) at an altitude of 3° from the horizon, 251,681 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:38 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers 🌧 and temperatures around 51 degrees. There will be a east breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain before 1am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 40 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 22nd. East wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2020, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1874.

Tomorrow is the big COVID-shot. 💉 It should be a fun day, with lots of sun. Then to my talk therapist, which should be an adventure, and hopeful one where I learn a thing or two about myself, figure out how to be a better person and make more money. 💰 Probably I’m writing off Wednesday for recovery from COVID-19 shot, and then Thursday I’ll pack for camping but in no rush to head north or west until Friday, because I think Friday might be quite wet. ⛺ But a few nights in wilderness should help restore my sleeping patterns.

Weekend looks like a pretty decent mid-April weekend. 😎 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 59. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 61. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 38 at 10am. Other forecasts aren’t as optimistic but I still have Friday off from work, and I am thinking either the ADKs or CNY at this point. 🏕 Need to renew my fishing license, probably at Wally World. 🎣 Typical average high for the weekend is 59 degrees. Spring is definitely, coming, I noticed a lot of greening up yesterday at Five Rivers. 🌳 Posting pictures throughout the day.

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Pack Rat Day 🐀 when the sun will be setting at 8:13 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. A good chance to clean stuff out. A man wiser then me once said, “You can burn anything with a hot enough of a fire.” 🔥 That and “if it’s dark enough out, they won’t see the black smoke”. On that day in 2020, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 74 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 92 back in 2017. I remember that day, it was a pretty warm spring day and I was wearing my suit and tie in air conditioned office downtown. 🕴 Walked through the park to the Capitol.
