Weather Update – November 26, 2021

The rain waited for morning to arrive. ๐ŸŒง

Actually that’s a lie. it was raining when I got home last night when I wanted to go out for my evening walk after Thanksgiving. ๐Ÿฆƒ Some point though it will be nice and not as cold as Saturday plans to be, somewhat ruining my plans to get out of town.

I might try to walk down to the library ๐Ÿ“š if the rain lets up ๐ŸŒง and then get on the internet there, where I don’t have to be watching the meter constantly, ๐ŸŒกmaking sure I’m not using too much of my limited hotspot/mobile broadband. The library closes at 5 PM today, so I can’t go too late, and I will have to make sure to bring my muzzle. ๐Ÿ˜ท

I am hopeful that my new tires will arrive sometime next week, and then I can get the truck inspected and move forward with the inspection and getting the vehicle on the road. ๐Ÿš˜ To be prepared for that, I plan to stock up at the grocery store this week to make sure I have plenty of food should it be a few days without a car. ๐Ÿช I can always get groceries during lunch time or take a bus to the laundromat but it’s a bit of a pain.

Weather Update – October 16, 2021

Today is going to be pretty warm before the front comes through ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Hopefully I’ll be able to do some canvasing before it starts to pour out this afternoon, which I feel like is virtually sure to happen. ๐ŸŒฆ Today is the last day of my phone plan, so I have lots of bandwidth remaining, so I can play with that once I get home and it’s pouring this evening.

Sunday afternoon might be nice, but I’ll have to keep an eye on the forecast, ๐ŸŒฆ as it certainly looks a bit on unstable and as we all know it can change as moments notice. But I bet the rain and wind will do a real number on the leaves. ๐Ÿ‚ We knew the day was going to come — the six o’clock sunset arrives in a week.

It sucks that the best weather of the week ๐ŸŒž looks to be the work week, but I can take some time off if there is a nice day. But what to do on such a nice day off? Gas is so expensive these days, who really wants to spend a small fortune just to get out of town? I do think I might take off Thursday and Friday though to head out for a long weekend again. Things remain pretty quiet in the office.

Weather Update – August 16, 2021

Today should be a beautiful day but rain later in the week. โ˜”

Working downtown today. ๐Ÿข This is fine, I have a Zoom Meeting ๐Ÿ“น and I would rather do that in the office so I don’t have to watch the bandwidth meter or work down at the library, outdoors or in the truck due to the mask mandate. ๐Ÿ“ถ Working remote on Thursday and Friday, which look rather rainy.

Today I got look at ordering a replacement phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ for mine with the smashed screen so I can hopefully get the $20 deal on a refurbished phone if I buy a month of service. I also need to get to the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘•๐Ÿ‘– and get some groceries ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿฅฉ. I did stop at Wally World in Gloversville last night but it was late and only got the essentials like coffee. โ˜• I do need to get razors ๐Ÿ™„ as shaving with a dull razor my face is a mess.

I should think about getting the oil changed ๐Ÿ›ข and tires rotated on Big Red ๐Ÿš˜ later this week but I might wait another week on that. In September I will get Red to Watkins Spring to have them do an computerized alignment and replace the struts if necessary before doing the tires. My local shop doesn’t have the equipment for the big wheels. Honestly, I don’t care as I think I will end up putting on new tires in October but I keep noticing how cupped and noisy the tire is getting, and it feeds my anxiety. It’s kind of bad but the tires should be replaced before winter so I have decent snow traction.

I would like to get to Schoharie County and Mine Kill ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿป‍โ™‚๏ธ this weekend before summer is done. Do I take a three day weekend? I am undecided on that fact. If it’s rainy, I guess I could do Thacher Park ๐Ÿž again. Right now it sure looks like it would be a good week for Schoharie as summer is fading away quickly.

March 19, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Last Day of Winter ๐Ÿ‚ ! Another real cold, late winter day. Going to need to bundle up. Spring starts tomorrow, going Two weeks to Good Friday โœ๏ธ . Mostly sunny and 23 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 28 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The current wind chill is 10. Things will start to thaw out at around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Finishing up my breakfast of french toast and coffee. ๐Ÿณ A good breakfast, although I wish I had more frozen fruit to put on it but I didn’t get enough when I was at Aldi’s last week. ๐Ÿ“ Unfortunately I don’t like how Aldi’s lacks the bulk sizes that you can get at Walmart, and I end up buying less then I really need as I eat a lot of frozen fruit both with meals and snacks. I don’t buy cookies ๐Ÿช or sweats ๐Ÿญ anymore both for health reasons but mostly because of cost reasons because I’m always living paycheck-to-paycheck after saving for retirement, and putting away money in various investments to eventually buy land, ๐Ÿšœ so I’m not stuck living the rest of my life in this miserable, literally falling apart apartment in city, when there are so many wonderful places out west where you can have land and your freedom and dignity.

Yesterday was what one would expect for a rainy day. โ˜‚ Kind of a busy day at times with work, but then there was some down time. I should have finished my taxes up so I could get the big refund check from the IRA, but I didn’t. ๐Ÿ’ตMoney is going to be tight after the car insurance payment goes through, as rates have gone up with the pandemic ending, however I’m not convinced I’d save a lot of money switching despite all the free firewood the insurance companies mail me daily ๐Ÿ“จ and spam my social media feeds. ๐Ÿคฃ Actually in my experience, paper doesn’t burn that well, unlike some of the lightweight plastic wrappers food comes in. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I did watch a couple of videos on birding and common birds to better improve my birding skills that I previously had downloaded on Sunday. ๐Ÿฆ

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 38 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 28th. North wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Going to be chilly out all day with the wind and late February weather like weather. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 51 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 2012. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 1971.โ„

With my neck problems I’ve been having this week, ๐Ÿ˜ฃ I am thinking I will go down to the library mid-day to work from my truck, ๐Ÿ’ป because I think my truck seat is much more comfortable then my broken wooden chair on a paint bench at home. Plus then I don’t have to be monitoring the bandwidth meter when I’m working down there, as that Internet is not metered unlike my cellular connection. ๐Ÿ“ฑ Plus I think with the sun it will be a pretty nice day to work down at the library despite the breeze and relatively cold weather. Next week looks nice enough that I might just walk down to the library a couple of days to work, although if I have involved projects, I might prefer the comfort of the seat in my truck plus not having to worry about my laptop battery. ๐Ÿ’บ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:04 pm with sun having an altitude of 47ยฐ from the due south horizon (-23.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:30 pm with the sun in the west (264ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (270ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:07 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 53 seconds with dusk around 7:34 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (236ยฐ) at an altitude of 60ยฐ from the horizon, 250,661 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:08 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 33 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 20 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 28th. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 44 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1967.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 54 degrees at 4pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 5th. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. I’ll take some late April weather this weekend. I am thinking of hiking out to Five Rivers, and then Meads Road, I think. It’s a nice walk and doesn’t involve burning any fossil fuels and there might be a lot of birds and wildlife on the move at Five Rivers. ๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿ•Š๐Ÿ A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 2012. 7 inches of snow fell back in 1944.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 59. Calm wind. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Typical average high for the weekend is 46 degrees. I am thinking of doing a road hike up at Partridge Run with my binoculars to see how many wild turkeys, ๐Ÿฆƒ grouse ๐Ÿ•Š and deer ๐ŸฆŒ I will see along my walk. While I probably want to stay on the roads as the trails will be quite muddy, I think there should be nice hiking up there, especially if wildlife are out and about thanks to the warmer weather. If I get an early enough start I can probably do all day hiking. Maybe I should avoid walking past that mobile home on sickle road with the pit bull ๐Ÿถ that ripped a big whole in my jeans last year. Didn’t draw blood fortunately. ๐Ÿฉธ That dog is lucky I wasn’t hunting, ๐Ÿ”ซ otherwise it would have died from lead poisoning. I just hate the concept of pets and owning animals for companionship, especially if they are vicious beasts that attack random strangers walking through the woods or on public roads. ๐Ÿ˜บ If you need a pet for companionship, you are a very sad person in my opinion.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Good Friday โœ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 7:22 pm with dusk at 7:51 pm. On that day in 2020, we had rain showers, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 57 and 38 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 77 back in 2010.

December 15, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Bill of Rights Day ๐Ÿ“œ! While the constitution is just a sheet of paper it’s important we elect good people to enforce it. โš– Next Tuesday the Days are Getting Longer โ˜€๏ธ. Looking forward to that. Already we are starting to get a little more daylight in the evening although that’s offset by super dark mornings that have been particularly cloudy lately.

Mostly sunny and 27 degrees in Delmar, NY. Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ . The current wind chill is 15. ๐ŸŒ… Things will start to thaw out at Sunday around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Even with the relatively low sun angle, โ˜€ the bright sun and blue skies help a lot. Out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป not any snow or ice to deal with. It looks like the impending snow storm ๐ŸŒจ is going to stay south of us for the most part, just cloudy and cold for us here. And certainly not a ton of snow in the Adirondacks which is what I really care about for a Christmas weekend camping trip. ๐ŸŽ„

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 31 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, colder than a typical winter day. Northwest wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. But I don’t care, the cold is keeping the snow south of us it seems. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 2015. 8.2 inches of snow fell back in 1968.โ„

I have a few supplies I want to pick up today ๐Ÿช and then I will go down to the library to work. ๐Ÿ’ป I also have a Zoom with a community group I’m involved in, I plan to listen to that in the background. The store stock tool says that Walmart has headphones in stock again so I’m hoping to pick them up. ๐ŸŽง Kind of a cold day but once my truck is warmed up with the sun I should be fine โ˜€ working from the parking lot. Tomorrow with the snow ๐ŸŒจ and probably mostly clouds, I’ll work from home. If I end up burning up too much data that’s fine, I need to reup my plan come next Wednesday and if I loose a day off my year long plan then so be it. I may need the extra bandwidth for work next week at any rate. ๐Ÿ“ถ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:52 am with sun having an altitude of 24.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-46.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:38 pm with the sun in the southwest (231ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:24 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 24 seconds with dusk around 4:54 pm, which is 15 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the southwest (230ยฐ) at an altitude of 5ยฐ from the horizon, 232,750 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:31 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 29 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 18. โ˜ƒ๏ธ There will be a northwest breeze at 15 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 4 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 28 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 12 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 4 at 5am; Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1917.

I turned on my little portable electric heater โ™จ before bed for a little while last night. I think it’s cheaper than turning up the heat downstairs. Last month I only paid 13.1 cents for each extra kilowatt hour I consumed and if I’m only using it for a few minutes here and there it’s cheaper than turning the main heat up. So far in the week I’ve had it I’ve only used it fit a few hours. I’m thinking about also getting a heating pad as an inexpensive way to stay warm this winter. I’m not thrilled about being home all winter and having the heat on all day even if it’s on low. My bill was $72 last month and it remains elevated through the winter.

On December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge collapsed under the weight of rush-hour traffic, resulting in the deaths of 46 people. Two of the victims were never found. ๐ŸŒ‰ The Silver Bridge was an eyebar-chain suspension bridge built in 1928 and named for the color of its aluminum paint. The bridge carried U.S. Route 35 over the Ohio River, connecting Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and Gallipolis, Ohio. Investigation of the wreckage pointed to the cause of the collapse being the failure of a single eyebar in a suspension chain, due to a small defect 0.1 inches (2.5 mm) deep. Analysis showed that the bridge was carrying much heavier loads than it had originally been designed for and had been poorly maintained. The collapsed bridge was replaced by the Silver Memorial Bridge, which was completed in 1969.

Also, today in 2000, was an the end of an era at the infamous Chernobyl Power Plant. Reactor No. 4 was the site of the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, and the power plant is now within a large restricted area known as the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. โ˜ข Both the zone and the former power plant are administered by the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management. The three remaining reactors remained operational after the accident; all three were eventually shut down by 2000, and the plant remains in the process of decommissioning. ๐Ÿคฏ Nuclear clean-up is scheduled for completion in 2065.

Saturday looks the sunniest but coldest for the, . ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 32. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees.

As previously noted, next Tuesday the days are getting longer โ˜€๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:25 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm. On that day in 2019, we had sunny and temperatures between 34 and 10 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 34 degrees. We hit a record high of 60 back in 1990.

Cut Off to Money Brook Trail in Snow

March 16, 2020 Evening

Good evening! Mostly clear and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Wednesday around 5 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ A pretty nice evening, especially for mid March. Come April it will only get nicer.

So today I worked from home then on my laptop at Five Rivers. ๐ŸธI looked at getting internet at home – be it a broadband card or cable service – but I think I can make due in the meantime. I spoke to my parents and they said I could work out there too as long as I don’t get sick. Those options are expensive and I don’t want internet service at home for anything but work. ๐Ÿฆ And it’s a nice place to work, lots of geese and birds to watch and the solar panel worked well at producing power until after four when the clouds pushed in and the sun โ˜€ angle declined. Nicer than working in a basement office for sure. Maybe on a cold rainy day not so much. I’m surprised that the Discovery Center at Five Rivers is still open – the Albany Pine Bush center closed on Friday afternoon. ๐Ÿค

After five o’clock I clocked out and went for a walk. ๐Ÿ’ป Right at five, the low voltage disconnect kicked in due to the voltage sag caused by the load from the inverter. But kind of nice not having a commute home. ๐Ÿš I went to the grocery store ๐Ÿฌ which a lot of the shelves were pretty bare, and no frozen veggies were left on the store shelves except some weird organic frozen kale stuff. I had no idea real people actually eat stuff like mixed vegetables. ๐ŸŒฝ I thought only I bought them because they are affordable nutrition. Fortunately I have a fair amount at home and I can always get more next weekend when the stores restock.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. โณI’m relatively healthy, maybe a bit overweight but I do walk a lot. ๐Ÿšถ I might get quite sick when I get COVID-19, like probably everyone else will get eventually, actually sooner than later, but I’ll probably be okay. ๐ŸฃViruses when they’re uncontained multiply quickly, especially due to the long time between infection and symptoms. It could be and likely will be quite bad for the public at large and that’s why such extreme measures for shutting down society is happening. Fortunately those who recover, will be immune and not have to worry about getting at least this strain again. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Every time I feel a little sniffle in my nose ๐Ÿ‘ƒ or tightness in my throat, I wonder if I have it. Probably not. No fever, no cough. I have allergies to the mold in my apartment. Who knows, I might get enough of it to become immune going forward and maybe not that sick. That would be nice, not having a hard dry cough is good. My older parents and some of the elderly folks I know from the Pine Bush like John Wolcott and elsewhere are a lot more concerning to me, as are some of my sicker friends and colleagues around. ๐Ÿ˜ท Honestly, if I loose a lot of people I know dearly around me, I’ll probably pack up and leave Albany and New York for good. ๐Ÿ’ผ The money ๐Ÿ’ต is good where I work but there are bigger and better places to go and expand my horizons beyond New York. ๐ŸŒ†

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow, mainly after 3am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 34 degrees at 3am. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -1 occurred back in 1916. Doesn’t get so cold out now.

A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1990. 4.1 inches of snow fell back in 1982.โ„

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 45. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 41. Typical average high for the weekend is 46 degrees. Do I head out to Schoharie or Madison County for some fresh air and camp overnight? โ›บ That’s to be decided. Not like I will likely see anyone else in the woods. Going to be fairly seasonable as long as the wind isn’t whipping around. It’s the first week of spring so it will be cold. Friday is going to 72 degrees with thunderstorms. I could clock out early on Friday or at actually leave right at five as I’m working from home I’m guessing for a while – well home and also wifi hot spots like the Town Park and Five Rivers. It’s not like I’m going to run into msnu people up in the woods. I’m guessing I will have to call off the Pine Bush Hike this weekend. ๐Ÿšถ

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 3 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

There is a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 59 degrees. It’s a pleasant morning after a rainy evening that was pretty dark.

Tonight the priority is to find the break in the exciter line ๐Ÿ”Œ with my test meter and get hooked back up so that the batteries connect and disconnect automatically as does the CB radio. I also want to return the beer cans โ™ป and buy groceries so I can leave early tomorrow for camp – probably the nicest day of the long weekend that I’m increasing with taking off Friday. โ›บ Still not sure where I’m going – probably Speculator Tree Farm but I’m weighting other options.

On this day in 1966, the Beatles perform their last concert before paying fans at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. ๐ŸŽธ After this, if you wanted to hear the beatles, you had to listen to them on vinyl records or AM radio. Their next album would be Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Club Heart band, and it would have a dramatically different sound then the Love, Love Me Do record’s. ๐ŸŽถ

Sundays forecast is slipping down hill. ๐Ÿ˜• Some of the precipation from the hurricane is pushing further north. ๐ŸŒ€ Saturday, sunny, with a high near 76. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. But have you looked at the 8-14 day outlook? โ„ While it’s not calling for snow, it is going to be cold start to September. I wonder if the colors will turn early at Moose River Plains.๐Ÿ‚ Mid September is often good for the colors in the high country of the Adirondacks. I bet farmers will rushing to chop silage come early September especially in the high country with frost breathing down their necks. ๐Ÿฎ
