September 29, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Two weeks to Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚. In the Albany area that might occur sooner as it looks like the northeast will dip above the jet stream next week. Strangely enough I’ll be in West Virginia where its expected to be relatively warm and sunny assuming that the jet stream remains far enough north. Partly sunny and 65 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 55 degrees.

Yesterday I hiked in the Albany Pine Bush ๐Ÿšถ out the purple trail from Madison Avenue Extension to Fusco Park then the yellow trail loop. A nice hike but a bit humid by evening with the front coming through. โ˜ Clouded u later on. I’ll post more photos ๐Ÿ“ท later today. Also scanned on some documents ๐Ÿ“  at the library for Save the Pine Bush.

Last night was kind of a hot and sticky one. I was tempted to get out my fan but I don’t like how much energy it uses, says the boy in the squeaky big jacked up truck that’s getting fixed tomorrow. ๐Ÿ’จ I fell asleep pretty early mainly because I was up late the previous night watching the YouTube I had downloaded at the library.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 69 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 8am. North wind 8 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1921.

The sun will set at 6:41 pm with dusk around 7:09 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 65 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Today I’m thinking about hiking Louise Kier WMA aka Blodgett Hill outside of South Bethlehem ๐Ÿšถ one of the few areas around in Albany County outside of the Albany Pine Bush that has a native pitch pine habitat. But first I want to run to the car wash ๐Ÿš™ and Walmart. ๐Ÿช I need to buy some motor oil โ›ฝ to top off the truck before vacation. Then I’ll probably head over to my parents house relatively early as I’m not going to stay overnight tonight.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 8th. North wind 3 to 6 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 43 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1991.

Looking forward to my West Virginia trip next week. By now in a week I’ll be well on my way to West Virginia, stopping at several parks along the way, especially Hyner View I think. ๐Ÿ‚ Might be really pretty for sure, depending on how much color I see on the way down there. ๐Ÿš™

I have my hunting license and back tag set up for 2019. ๐ŸŽซ So I can head out to the field whenever now. ๐Ÿ”ซ Ironically though I’m heading down to West Virginia. I wonder what a weekly out of state license costs for small game down there. That said the days are short and there is much to see down there.

I ordered additional blue jeans ๐Ÿ‘– online from Walmart so I have enough ones for vacation and at work. I also bought a second amendment and Live Free or die shirt ๐Ÿ‘š to wear at camp. Big spender which is bad because I just paid out a shit ton for rent and my car insurance and next I’ll have the repair bill for Big Red. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:17 pm with dusk at 6:45 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 55 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 61 degrees. We hit a record high of 81 back in 1930.

 Scenic Otter Creek Road

July 10, 2019 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Going to be hot later or so I’m told by Mr. NOAA and his brave men and women based on their fancy computer models. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Three weeks to my Teeth Cleaning Day ๐Ÿ˜„Clean teeth are important. Now, I just need to schedule a physical ๐Ÿ˜ท and get my tetanus booster. ๐Ÿ’‰ Partly sunny and 69 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ˜€ Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees. Nice morning, enjoyed my walk down to the bus.๐Ÿš

Today will be mostly sunny and hot โ˜€, with a high of 91 degrees at 5pm. But maybe not too ungodly humid? Muggers won’t be that active today. They’re lurking in their dark corners for tomorrow. Nine degrees above normal. It’s called summer time, the hottest time of the year starts Friday, the first sunset before 8:30 is on Tuesday. Maximum dew point of 60 at 11am. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It became sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.

The sun will set at 8:34 pm with dusk around 9:08 pm, which is 28 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 84 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an decrease of one minute and 12 seconds over yesterday.

This evening, I have another Save the Pine Bush event ๐Ÿฆ‹ to go to, namely the Guilderland Town Planning meeting over that Rapp Road development. Should be an interesting meeting, and hopefully the building will be well air conditioned. I might go for a hike after the meeting, although more likely then not, I’ll end up going to another meeting with the Pine Bush folks probably at a dinner. โ˜•

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 69 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 11pm. Light south wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 48 occurred back in 1986.

I saw another one of my fellow high schoolers bought a house. ๐Ÿก In Upstate New York of all places. Seems like I’m getting to the age where everyone’s buying property, while I’m just buying stocks and bonds. Based on the numbers I’ve seen, renting my run down apartment, walking around town and taking the bus ๐Ÿš to work and investing I still come out ahead.ย  If I owned land, I’d probably get in trouble for burning shit I shouldn’t be be. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I don’t live in Pennsylvania, where people burn everything from couches ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ and old buildings on-down.๐Ÿš Eventually when I am a little more financially secure, don’t have family anymore nearby, and I will move to a more rural state that has a lot more freedom. โœŠ Maybe Wyoming? ๐Ÿค  That’s a segue, although I don’t know what I would do out there, but I’ve heard good things about moving out west in places like Idaho or Missouri.

On this day in 1890, Wyoming is admitted to the United States as the 44th US State. ๐ŸŒ‹Many liberals regard that as a mistake, although it has some beautiful country out in Yellowstone and lots of oil and coal. ๐Ÿญ And no nearby neighbors, which is fun if you want to have big bonfires all of the time, drink beer, ride four wheelers, have hogs, cattle, and other animals ๐Ÿฅฉlike on Our Wyoming Life.๐Ÿค ย  And in 1962, Telstar, the world’s first communication satellite is launched.โญ And they wrote a song about it, ๐Ÿš€ until it was destroyed by the nuclear tests that not only nuked our satellite but put cesium-138 into our milk and ice cream.๐Ÿฎ

Going to be a nice, hot summer weekend. ๐ŸŠ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Maximum dew point of 64 at 7pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6am. Little less muggy then the second half of the week. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees. I think my plans for the weekend remain constant. It’s going to be hot ๐Ÿ”ฅ but no so bad out in the country in Schoharie County. I wonder if they will have sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ out there. Swimming, fishing, maybe hiking. I’m sure it will be cool down by the Betty Brook. Then next weekend is the real vacation.๐Ÿ– I hope that my state parks pass is activated — it should be — but I haven’t tested it yet.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Teeth Cleaning Day ๐Ÿ˜ƒ when the sun will be setting at 8:16 pm with dusk at 8:48 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 67 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1917.

Hang Gliders Cliff

June 28, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป. Mostly sunny and 68 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. Calm wind. The dew point is 61 degrees. Not a half bad morning and I was able to make it to the express bus ๐Ÿš on time despite having to run to Stewart’s to get milk this morning. ๐Ÿฎ Got have the cow juice to have good coffee and a good morning. Not a big thing getting milk, but it adds 10 minutes to my morning, and I’m always running tight because I’m not a real morning point.

Last night was the Save the Pine Bush Hike ๐ŸŒฒ and it was a beautiful evening, with mostly clear skies, mild but not too humid. We hiked the large yellow trail in the Karner Barrens past the landfill and Thruway, the wetlands and restored area, spending about a half hour after dusk โœจ looking up at the stars from overlook dune. It was a three mile hike but we managed to stretch it out for almost three hours, I wasn’t back to my truck until nearly quarter to ten. But it was a beautiful summer night.

Going to be a another warm summer day. It will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 87 degrees at 5pm. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 8am. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1901.

The sun will set at 8:37 pm with dusk around 9:12 pm, which is 2 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 80 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 29 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 67 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6am. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It was humid. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1981.

On this day in 1896, An explosion in the Newton Coal Company’s Twin Shaft Mine ๐Ÿš‚ in Pittston, Pennsylvania results in a massive cave-in that kills 58 miners. ๐Ÿ’ฃ Also in 1969, Stonewall riots begin in New York City, marking the start of the Gay Rights Movement. Lots of explosive things happening on this day in history.๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 8am and 3pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 82 degrees at 5pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 2nd. Maximum dew point of 67 at 11am. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1944.

Based on Saturday’s forecast, I am inclined to stay in town this weekend, ๐Ÿ  and maybe work on repairing the table on Saturday and testing out the camp stove a bit more. I might also want to shop and start packing for the long Independence Day Weekend — probably heading up to Moose Plains but I could change my mind. I could still go out to Schoharie on Saturday for an overnight if it turns out to be exceptionally nice, but I have my doubts.

I am almost thinking about heading up to Piseco-Powley Road for the long weekend, but the thing is it would be four nights, so I’ll have to move to a different campsite for the second half of the week unless I get a camping permit — which might be to late to do at this point. With Moose, I’d drive up to Mason Lake on Wednesday night then camp in plains Thursday, Friday, Saturday. ๐Ÿ• The potholers might be a lot of fun if it’s hot and sunny — there are swimming opportunities at Moose Plains but I’d rather do the potholers then swim in the somewhat marginal Moose River. That said, I can go up to Piseco-Powley Road almost any hot summer weekend, so why spend my Independence Day Weekend somewhere boring?

Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8am. Partly sunny, ๐ŸŒค with a high near 74. West wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 63 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.

As previously noted, next Friday is Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:10 pm. On that day in 2018, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 92 and 75 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1919.

 Potholers

April 13, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Mostly cloudy and 77 degrees in Westerlo.๐ŸŒฅ There is a west-southwest breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 41 degrees. Warm and dry.

I got the brake switch installed in the truck, and the cruise control is working again.๐Ÿš— It wasn’t too hard, the worse part was getting the bolt back in, which I had to fiddle around a bit, because the first time I tried I didn’t have the pressure clip lined up properly. The clip came off easily, as did the sensor. I could have ordered the same part online from Amazon for half the price — but I’m not complaining about a $25 fix to my truck, that took all of a half hour to do — repositing the clip and getting the bolt tightened back up was the only real challenging part.

I am a big fan of cruise control as it’s the best way to control your speed on the open road. You reach the speed limit of in rolling country a few miles below it and you hit a button and it locks ๐Ÿ›… you at a legal speed. No need to constantly monitor your speed. It was annoying when the cruise stopped working in the cold, it was even worse now that it’s warmed up and I’m traveling more. I probably have the cruise control on 90% of the time while I drive, especially in speed zones.

I got to the transfer station today, โ™ป returned all my cans and bottles for recycling. so now they are out of the back of my truck. I replaced the light strip that was failing in the truck cap, with a bright, modern new one. After five years several segments of the LEDs had failed and the waterproofing was yellowing, greatly reducing the output. I do need to get some more super glue, not the runny type to tack it on in a few more locations. Now I should have plenty of light in my truck cap, and it’s free of bottles and cans.

This evening is Sunday dinner at the folks house ๐Ÿ” some good burgers on the grill. Should be good.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 28th. Northwest wind 6 to 13 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1973.

The sun will set at 7:35 pm with dusk around 8:04 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 63 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly after 4pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 57 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 12th. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1968. 1.4 inches of snow fell back in 1950.โ„

I haven’t decided if tomorrow I’ll start packing my camping gear โ›บ again or wait until I get glue to fix the LED tape so I don’t spill glue everywhere. ๐Ÿ’ก But I do think I’ll get that packed sometime this week. I’m not sure if I’m heading out of town next weekend, I might instead do that hike up Platte Kill Clove sometime during the Easter Weekend ๐Ÿฐ.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. That might be the weekend I go to camp. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, cold conditions, partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

Looking Down Into Valley

March 16, 2019 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Remarkably chilly out with the breeze. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Today was kind of lazy day, working on some code and other projects ๐Ÿ“™walked down to the library for a bit and watched some YouTube videos ๐ŸŽฅI had previously download. Turned my bedroom lights green for a bit but I enjoyed being out of the busyiness of the week that was. The upside of today is that it was warm enough that the heat remained off in my apartment for the bulk of the day. Kind of raw for going for a walk around the neighborhood, ๐Ÿšถ it was sleeting pretty hard when I walked down to the library earlier. I really should have ridden the excerise bike ๐Ÿšฒ more or gone for a walk but I was kind of fried from the week that was. Since reseasoning my cast iron skillet and using ample oil at low temperatures I was able to make awesome omlets again at home without that awful off taste. ๐Ÿณ Good breakfast today for sure.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before midnight. Mostly clear ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 23 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 10th. Maximum wind chill around 14 at 6am; West wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 15 degrees. The record low of -1 occurred back in 1916.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 87% illuminated. The moon will set at 5:03 am. The Worm Moon ๐ŸŒ• is on Tuesday night with partly cloudy skies. The sun will rise at 7:04 am with the first light at 6:36 am, which is one minute and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 11 hours and 59 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around February 25th. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Another cold day but at least fairly sunny. ๐Ÿƒ It could be worse if was January though. I’m ready to shut the heat off for the winter but gawd is not conforming. A year ago, we had partly cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1990. 4.1 inches of snow fell back in 1982.โ„

Going to check the oil ๐Ÿš—in the truck and fill the windshield washer reservior, bake some brownies and visit my parents house ๐Ÿก tomorrow for Sunday dinner. They are making corn beef ๐Ÿƒ and cabbage. ๐Ÿ€Should be a good Saint Patricks Day. On the way out I’ll probably stop at Keheler Preserve and go for a walk there. I’m still trying to save gas and miles at least until the billing cycle closes on my credit card, so I don’t have to move money around to close out April and can make my April road trip a reality. Camp. โ›บ

In four weeks on April 13 the sun will be setting at 7:35 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 32 minutes and 5 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 63 and 40 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 57 and 37 degrees. The record high of 87 degrees was set back in 1977.

It got pretty nice out in last evening, it was 70 degrees in my apartment when I got home. Very comfortable. ๐Ÿ˜Š It had cleared out mid afternoon so I had a quick dinner ๐Ÿฒ and went down to the park.

I didn’t bring a book ๐Ÿ“™ as I know the sun still sets pretty early and I had my phone ๐Ÿ“ฑ to play with. I thought ๐Ÿ’ญ about walking ๐Ÿšถ the nature trail but the park โ›ฒ was very soggy from the recently melted snow with still frost in the ground below the snow.

Sitting down at the park a man approached and asked if he could sit down on the bench next to me. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ He looked a bit like a police officer or maybe a park staff person, wearing a yellow construction ๐Ÿšง vest like some of the officers do on traffic duty. I honestly figured it was a new park manager ๐ŸŽ„ just reminding people that the park closes up at dusk ๐ŸŒ† except for around the tennis courts ๐ŸŽพ.

He asked if I was from around here. I told him sure, I live down the street. He asked about where I worked, and told him about my job downtown. I told him I came down for a walk ๐Ÿšถ, some fresh air and to get the free Wi-Fi ๐Ÿ“ถ. I said it was a nice sunset. I said I like waking because it’s healthy and driving is kind of expensive.

That’s when things got kind of weird. ๐Ÿ˜œ He started talking about walking around Troy then asked if I heard the voices talking to him. I said it was getting late and I needed to head home ๐Ÿก. He just continued on the bench, and I walked away. He said, God bless and make sure to keep yourself clean.๐Ÿšญ I’m glad that I don’t smoke or drink much anymore. It’s so unhealthy.

The whole situation was really kind of odd, especially because he was dressed nicely and well groomed like a traffic officer or park personnel with the uniform vest on. Maybe he was a town employee who has some mental issues but does a good job as a maintenence guy working ๐Ÿ‘ท for the parks department. Not appearing somebody who was mentally ill or for that matter inarticulate. But the guy really creeped me out. I guess some people are just odd balls. โšฝ I’ve never had that happen before over the nearly 12 years I’ve lived in Delmar. He seemed harmless but you never know.

I walked home ๐Ÿก and got milk ๐Ÿฎ at Stewart’s. I sat out back and had a beer ๐Ÿบ that I brought home from Brooklyn Night. After the sun set the temperature rapidly dropped, especially with all the melting snow around. I went inside, watched some videos and retired to bed.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 6 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 7 weeks, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 2 months, June ๐Ÿน is in 11 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 3 months, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 14 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 17 weeks, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 4 months and Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 23 weeks.

November 12, 2018 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 40 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 8 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Then a long cold period will be upon us.

Tonight will rain and snow before 3am, then rain, snow, and sleet between 3am and 4am, then rain after 4am. 🌧 Low of 35 degrees at 3am. Three degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around November 3rd. That’s kind of good otherwise it would be a quite snowy evening. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected. In 2017, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1981.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon 🌒 with 28% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:55 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Wednesday night with mostly clear skies. The Beaver Moon 🌝 is on Thursday, November 22nd. Good trapping. The sun will rise at 6:44 am with the first light at 6:14 am, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 10 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 14 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain, mainly before noon, then a slight chance of showers after 3pm. 🌧 High of 39 degrees at 12pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around December 6th. Kind of a wet and cold day ahead. North wind 5 to 14 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 1964. Not exactly a hot day even back then. 6 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 10 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. ๐Ÿ˜€ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 42. I’ll take that. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 33. Maybe I will head out of town this weekend to the Adirondacks for some snow camping and skiing. Going to be very cold up north with all the snow but I have the heater and will bundle up. Typical average high for the weekend is 47 degrees.

I think truck cap camping is done until spring as the snow is setting in early.โ›บ It’s good for the deer hunters tracking deer but not so good for getting into the back country with a truck. I can certainly hot tent camp but with my little plastic sled I’m limited to how far I can drag gear back in the woods.

I got grocery shopping today, got down to the library for podcasts, aired back up my tires except for the one I couldn’t reach with the cord to bring up to the proper pressure (fix tomorrow), went for a nice walk, did some reading and got other projects done. All and all I thought it was a productive day. 👍

Back to work tomorrow, traveling out of town again tomorrow in the evening, heading back out to Central New York for a few days. 🚗 I am a little worried about the threat of snow and icy roads but it looks like the timing will mean that I will miss the worse of it when I’m on the road. โ„

One thing that is frustrating is that I misplaced my small gage wire stripper, which has put my electronics project on hold for now. โœ‚ I used it for something I was fixing on my truck but it wouldn’t work for that job as it’s only works with the very fine wires I use for my electronics projects. Unfortunately it’s the kind of thing I can only really get online as Radio Shack is no more locally.

I keep finding yellow jackets in my apartment. 🐝 When I got back last week there was a bunch of dead ones on the floor, and each time I turn up the heat I find a one or two more around. Hopefully I don’t have a nest inside somewhere that will become reactivated come spring time.

I’ve been posting more essays lately with my thoughts. I will be the first to admit some of my ideas are controversial but that’s intentional.📰 I’m tired of hearing the conventional wisdom in the news, I think long sacred cows need to be challenged. Phil Ochs is my idol. 🎸

In four weeks on December 10 the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm,🌄 which is 13 minutes and 10 seconds earlier then tonight. Pretty close to the earliest sunset of the year, only off by a few seconds. In 2017 on that day, we had snow, patches of fog, mist, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 36 and 18 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 38 and 23 degrees. The record high of 64 degrees was set back in 1966.

Looking ahead, Cyber Monday 🛍๏ธ is in 2 weeks, New Years Eve 🎆 is in 7 weeks, Martin Luther King Day 🖤 is in 10 weeks, Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ is in 16 weeks, Daylight Savings Time 🌆 is in 4 months, April Fools Day 🤡 is in 20 weeks, Tax Day 💰 is in 22 weeks, Mothers Day 👩โ€ is in 6 months, Memorial Day 🇺🇸 is in 28 weeks, July 🏊🏿 is in 33 weeks and Last Sunset After 8 PM 🌆 is in 9 months.

Good morning! Happy October ๐ŸŽƒ. The most colorful month of the year, as the greens of summer change to red and yellow, then to brown. Honestly though, I’m just looking forward to November. Things will get quiet after the election, then I’ll have sometime to spend enjoying the wilderness with nobody to bug me for a week or so. Thirty five days until election day. But in the meantime, next Monday is Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ or Indigenous People Day ๐Ÿค .

Light rain and 54 degrees in North Syracuse. I hope you brought your umbrella. โ˜” That said tomorrow is going to the real soaker. There is a north-northeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 51 degrees.ย  i am not complaining, at least it’s not raining ash out of the sky like that time I was in Niagara Falls. Talk about a depressing place.

Today will rain. โ˜” High of 56 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees below normal. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Not a real great day, but not as wet as tomorrow will be or so I’m told.ย ๐ŸŒง A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1927. There was a dusting of snow in 1946.โ„

I got to say I’m glad that I’m not out camping in the rain, ๐Ÿ•as pretty as it might be with all the leaves turning in the woods, because autumn camping in the rain tends to be rather wet and chilly — to say nothing of smoky from the campfire fighting the rain. It’s bearable with the big buddy heater, and it’s better then being home I guess, but it’s still kind of muddy and miserable.ย  That said, on sunny days, autumn camping is fantastic, even with the short days. You just have to make sure to get up early, especially after the time changes.

The sun will set at 6:44 pm with dusk around 7:13 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday.ย ๐ŸŒ† At sunset, look for rainย ๐ŸŒง and 55 degrees. The dew point will be 53 degrees. There will be a northeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 42 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers, mainly before 3am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒ‚, with a low of 55 degrees at 6pm. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 54 at 11pm. East wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2017, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1972.

So I am still thinking about taking off part of Friday to hike Jones Hill, probably in the evening to watch the sunset, although the autumn leaves would be better to see at sunrise. ๐Ÿ‚ I guess we will see how things go. I could do an overnight in hammock, if it’s not too chilly, just backpack the hammock up the hill, bring a flashlight and a light dinner, ๐Ÿ”ฆ and maybe a blanket. I’m chewing over that. I don’t know though, I probably should be back pretty early in the morning, and I’m thinking I might want to shower before work.

Went to the store and bought more can goods. ๐ŸฅซLots of soup, canned pasta, macaroni and cheese, and vegetables.ย  It’s tough staying where I am in North Syracuse, not having a freezer or stove. I do have a microwave and refrigerator, but still the options are limited, because I am trying to do everything on tight of as budget as possible, and I’m kind of busy. ๐ŸŒ I guess I could eat out more, but I really get sick of restaurant food and I don’t like all the wasteful packaging it comes in.๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ I guess to be fair, I don’t usually eat canned foot at home, and certainly not at camp for the most part — i rather have things in packaging I can burn up in the woods rather then haul to the transfer station.๐Ÿฅซ

I am definitely looking forward to my November Road trip when I can do more cooking, have fires every night, ๐Ÿ”ฅ be able to sit back every night and relax. I am tired of seeing the suburbs every day, working too many hours, getting home and collapsing. I want a good meal cooked on a fire, then listening to the radio into evening. If it’s cold I can always set up a tent and relax there. I miss seeing the countryside being stuck into the office soย  much these days.

As previously noted, next Monday is Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 6:32 pm with dusk at 7:01 pm. On that day in 2017, we had rain, mist, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 80 and 61 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 80 back in 2017.
