Good evening! Cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar. โ›… Breezy, ๏ธ17 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ . The current wind chill is 17. There are 8 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

I’m surprised as anyone that we got as much snow ๐ŸŒจ as we did. It’s winter though but after being so mild and snow free since mid December it was kind of a shock ๐Ÿคฏ for a change. I thought it was going to be more of a rain event. At least I didn’t need my umbrella for the evening commute. I was fine leaving it home.

While there was some snow on the sidewalks and a few icy patches, they weren’t bad for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. Made pasta for dinner ๐Ÿฒ but I enforced the one bowl, eat only until I’m full rule and save the rest in the refrigerator. I won’t call it a diet but like everything with inflation I’m trying to tighten my belt. I don’t want to be cheap and miserable but I do want to build a good future ๐Ÿ”ฎ for myself in all aspects of life. 40 is such a critical age, to really set yourself on the right step to the future.

Dug out my truck and cleaned off the solar panel โ˜€ so things will get charged up hopefully starting tomorrow and I’ll be ready the next time I need to drive somewhere like the dentist on Friday or maybe sooner if I need groceries especially if I decide to go camping ๐Ÿ• for my birthday. You never know it might be fun, especially if there is snow for skiing.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 7% illuminated. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Sunday, February 5. The darkest hour is at 12:08 am, followed by dawn at 6:48 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:19 am in the east-southeast (116ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 14 seconds. Sunrise is 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 8:02 am with sun in the east-southeast (124ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 16 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 3 seconds over last night.

In four weeks on February 20 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (256ยฐ) at 5:34 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 36 minutes and 22 seconds later then tonight. That’s it? Ugh. Although at least by then the evening commute won’t be so dark. In 2021 on that day, we had partly sunny skies and temperatures between 28 and 13 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 37 and 19 degrees. The record high of 66 degrees was set back in 1930.

Looking ahead, Save the Pine Bush Turns 45 ๐Ÿฆ‹ Next Monday, Presidents Day ๐Ÿ‘ด is in 4 weeks, 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 11 weeks, May ๐Ÿ•Š is in 14 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 19 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 21 weeks, World Mosquito Day ๐Ÿž is in 30 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 32 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 33 weeks, 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 34 weeks, Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ is in 42 weeks, Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ is in 10 months, Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 44 weeks, First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ is in 45 weeks, Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช is in 47 weeks, Festivus ๐Ÿ– is in 11 months and Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is in 48 weeks.

January 12, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Dark and cloudy at the freezing point for my morning. โ˜ Damp with coming rain showers. โ˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Probably the darkest morning I can remember for the morning walk except for Election Day last year when I was up early to see the lunar eclipse.

Out for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ on this dark morning. I think part of the reason it’s so dark out is I’m actually on time โŒš for once for the walk. I was running slow getting up and had a quick breakfast which helped. At the end of the day yesterday I ended up with 19,500 steps or about nine miles which isn’t bad for a weekday. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ My goal these days is walk an average of seven miles a day or fifty miles a week.

Today will rain and snow likely before 1pm, then a chance of rain after 2pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 42 degrees at 4pm. Already a few flurries around. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 6th. South wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 67 was set in 2020. 12.8 inches of snow fell back in 2011.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:04 pm with sun having an altitude of 25.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-45.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:59 pm with the sun in the southwest (233ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (241ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:44 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 20 seconds with dusk around 5:14 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:50 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 10 mph with gusts up to 21mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 24 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 31 seconds over today.

Tonight will rain.๐ŸŒง๏ธ Temperature rising to around 49 by 5am. South wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1968.

I’ve been noticing that the solar isn’t charging the batteries ๐Ÿ”‹ as well on my truck as it should. It might be the cloudy weather but from the meter it looks like I have a phantom ๐Ÿ‘ป load somewhere. Panel itself is sending quite a bit of power to the batteries – a few kilowatt hours since camping in December but it seems like the batteries are always a bit low.

Cold start to the Kings ๐Ÿ‘‘ weekend but improving as the days go on. Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 33. Northwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 35. Dirty eight and sunny for Martin Luther King Day. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Ground Hog Day ๐Ÿป when the sun will be setting at 5:11 pm with dusk at 5:39 pm. On that day in 2022, we had snow, mostly cloudy and temperatures between 27 and 20 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1981.

November 6, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 52 degrees at the Stoney Pond State Forest. ๐ŸŒŒ Calm wind. The dew point is 46 degrees.

It’s a nice mild evening under the stars โœจ laying back under the very starry skies. I dimmed the lights so I could see the stars better and because I’m a little low on power after charging my work laptop while I was working at the Cazenovia laptop. ๐Ÿ”‹ Lot of sun but the solar panel angle flat on the truck isn’t very good this time of the year.

The moon is rising now, ๐ŸŒ– and being such a clear evening should be a very nice moonlit evening. While I don’t plan on rushing out tomorrow, truth be told that with the time change ๐Ÿ•’ darkness will return early. It’s maybe not as warm as a summer night by still pretty nice. A lot of people up here tonight, which is unusual for November but it’s so mild out.

Not as quiet up here as last night ๐Ÿคซ, as there are a lot of people camping up here for November โ›บ but I guess that’s to be expected with the unusually mild weather this year. In contrast, in 2018 was a terribly cold November. โ„ I’m just happy that I can get away and I’m not paying for a shit ton of heat at home. I brought my camp heater with me but I doubt I’ll need it any time this weekend. It’s still in the bag.

Had more hot coca โ˜• and dipped Halloween Candy ๐Ÿฌ in it, watching as the wrappers melted and burnt in the fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ. So much easier when you can use your paper plates and just burn the trash rather than washing out the bottles and cans for pretend recycling โ™ป. I can’t wait until eventually live out in the country and just burn the burnables.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 43 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 7th. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1962.

All and all it was a pretty good day, โ˜บ and while I had some online meetings and work to do it was in general a pretty quiet day so I took a long lunch break and hiked around Cazenovia and then down around Nelson Swamp before returning back to camp before night quickly fell again. Mornings are still quite dark although the moonlight was pretty bright before dawn. ๐ŸŒŒ Had a bit of the runs come morning but I squatted off my tailgate and sprayed it on the ground and just sholved up the poopy leaves into the fire pit come morning.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 64% illuminated. The moon will rise at 9:24 pm. The Beaver ๐Ÿป Moon is on Sunday, November 22. The darkest hour is at 11:47 pm, followed by dawn at 6:15 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:45 am in the east-southeast (112ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 8 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:26 am with sun in the east-southeast (119ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 27 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 69 degrees at 2pm. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 11am. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1938. 4.5 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

Tomorrow I plan to hike around Chittenango State Park ๐Ÿž and maybe some of the Link trail ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป and the Fenner Wind Farm or some other other parks.

In four weeks on December 4 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (240ยฐ) at 4:28 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 19 minutes and 43 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 36 and 19 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 26 degrees. The record high of 63 degrees was set back in 1998.

Come December I might do another trip โ›บ but it depends on the weather. I don’t have a lot of vacation time left but it would be nice to do some winter camping before the end of the year. ๐ŸŒฒ

Looking ahead, Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ is in 1 week, Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 3 weeks, First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ is a month away, Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ is in 4 weeks, Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… is a month away, Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช is in 6 weeks, Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is in 7 weeks, New Years Day 2021 ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 8 weeks, Bubble Bath Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 9 weeks, 38th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 12 weeks and Save the Pine Bush Turns 43 ๐Ÿฆ‹ is in 3 months.

May 26, 2020 Night

Good evening. Clear and 74 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. ๐ŸŒƒ Light south breeze. The dew point is 62 degrees. A beautiful night, after laying in the hammock for a while looking at the stars I decided to start a small campfire ๐Ÿ”ฅ just to sit by and look at while starring up at the skies. I’ve dimmed the lights for the evening, and it’s very starry ๐ŸŒŸ on this final night of camping. Saw one intensely bright shooting star fall from the sky – kind of burned up with a bright flash. Made a wish and looked in disbelief that suddenly its 2020.

Tonight should be a nice night, partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 61 degrees at 4am. ๐ŸŒƒ 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around July 3rd. Maximum dew point of 62 at 9pm. Doesn’t feel that muggy here. But then again, I’m just hanging out by the fire and it’s a small one. Dry enough I will put it out cold before bed. A lot of dry grass around this campsite even as the green grass grows back up around it. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 18% illuminated. Nice strong moon shadow tonight too. At 9 PM, the moon was in the west (272ยฐ) at an altitude of 33ยฐ from the horizon, some 234,985 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by November 21st. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Strawberry ๐Ÿ“ Moon is on Friday, June 5. The darkest hour is at 12:56 am, followed by dawn at 4:49 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:24 am in the east-northeast (59ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 25 seconds. Sunrise is 42 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:06 am with sun in the east-northeast (66ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 54 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 36 seconds over last night.

A fairly quiet but busy work day from camp. โ›บ Lots of phone calls ๐Ÿ“ž and emails โœ‰ sent, lots of client business done. Memos written ๐Ÿ“ questions ๐Ÿ™‹ answered. Kind of like working from home only more scenic. Very quiet up here now that the holiday weekend is over, I think I saw maybe three cars all weekend.

Tomorrow after I take down camp I’ll work from the Lake Algonquin Park and Speculator Beach or library if I need more bandwidth then I can do over my phone. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Maybe get a burger ๐Ÿ” or something for lunch and ice cream for the heat ๐Ÿฆ, possibly dip my feet in at the beach and when work is done at five, head home ๐Ÿก. Honestly, I think I’m just as productive remote working from the Adirondacks ๐Ÿ—ป and a whole less stressed. And by the time I get home the heat wave ๐ŸŒŠ should be largely broken.

Had some rain showers today โ˜” and a few claps of thunder โšก but nothing to dramatic. One shower probably could be heard a bit on a client call ๐Ÿ“ž but I’ll chock it up to rain on the roof – of the screen tent. By no means does the tent ๐ŸŽช block all the rain but with the tarp I used to create shade it worked well enough.

Food today ๐Ÿฒ was kind what I had leftover, I packed food and clothes for a maximum of four days and I’m day five of the trip. Lunch was tuna fish salad with breakfast sausage and pasta, while dinner was creamed corn, refried beans, pasta with mayo and cheese along with breakfast sausage. ๐Ÿ‘ A garbage plate, yes but I wanted to eat up what I had before it went bad.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 85 degrees at 3pm. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 8am. Going to be sticky by the time I awake but this night is real pleasant. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1914.

In four weeks on June 23 the sun will be setting in the northwest (304ยฐ) at 8:42 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 15 minutes and 41 seconds later then tonight. The sun doesn’t set much later then it does now – only a fifteen minute gain. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 84 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1888.

Tonight is the last night camping โ›บ for my Memorial Day Weekend remote working trip, but it has inspired me to do more similar adventures in the future as long as I plan places that have good cell phone reception and sun for the solar panel. Over the past five days I’ve used over 1,000 watt hours of solar power camping, mostly for my laptop and phone charger for work and some camp lighting and starting battery ๐Ÿ”‹ topping but that’s not been a lot quite honestly compared to keeping the laptop charged for work. I’m thinking a possible weekend next in Schoharie County may be next, but that’s a few weeks off and remote work may end sooner than later and it’s back to the old dungeon office ๐Ÿข. And riding the CDTA bus ๐Ÿš to work every day. How novel public transportation seems these days. I do kind of miss the days of yore but I like the wilder side of life too during the pandemic. Maybe if they reopen Cherry Ridge ๐Ÿ’ I can camp and remote work from the wilds of Madison County and do a nice day trip down to Rogers Center on the weekend for bird ๐Ÿฆ watching.

Looking ahead, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 4 weeks, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 23 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 23 weeks.

May 21, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Sunny and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. Cool start to the day but a nice one this morning. I’m going to head out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ shortly and get the day started. Already had a big pan ๐Ÿณ of eggs and bacon, and of coffee โ˜•.

Tomorrow at this time โŒš I plan to already be in the city beyond the pines, Schenectady, ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒ‡ and well on my way to the Adirondacks. I’d like to be to camp by 8:30 and at least have a table set up and power cords run by the time I clock in a nine. I will bring a dress shirt and an old blazer to toss over my t shirt and Permethrin sprayed jeans ๐Ÿ‘–with my office background picture for any Zoom meetings I may have during the day. ๐Ÿ“น Bird noises and gun shots in the background during the meeting? The chimes of freedom. ๐Ÿ’ฅMust be because the windows are open. ๐Ÿฆ I may make a second pot of coffee this morning โ˜• and refrigerate it for tomorrow for a better jump start.

I am done with the doxycycline again ๐Ÿ’Šbut I’m shit scared of ticks. That’s why I am bathing myself in chemicals hoping to avoid the next biting. ๐Ÿœ I know that the black flies will be insane up north but they only work during the daytime hours and hopefully the screen to tent will work along with the DEET, PMD and Picardin and clotheses covered by Permethrin.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 76 degrees at 4pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 7th. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Another beautiful day.๐Ÿ’š Better put sunscreen on my truckers arm from working in my truck. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1941. There was a dusting of snow in 1895.โ„

Today I will work down at the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘š midday then later get groceries and gas for camping. It should be a nice day as long as I don’t make my shotgun arm any more crispy from working in the truck. I was pushing 75 watts out of the panel for a good portion of the day charging both my personal and work laptops.๐Ÿ˜Ž

Next week I am expecting one of those reflective wind shield screens that I ordered, mainly because I’m working in my truck office and it gets hot. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Plus I tend to now camp in sunnier campsites so I can have the solar power for the battery ๐Ÿ”‹ bank. The cooler I keep my truck the better especially if my coolers are up there. Back to two coolers now – one for beer and cold cuts and the other for real cold stuff now that summer is here.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-3.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:37 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (292ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (299ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:18 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 18 seconds with dusk around 8:50 pm, which is 58 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:33 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 68 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 50 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 24th. South wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 2002.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 57 at 10am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Maximum dew point of 48 at 6pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees.

It looks like the forecast is better up north. โ˜บ That said, following weekend looks rain

Good morning! Happy Sunday โ›ช ! Three weeks to March 🌨. Cloudy and 14 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. 🌡๏ธ

It’s a cold and overcast morning but I’m hopeful it will warm up soon and I’m thinking it might be a decent day. Maybe more clouds than I’d like but so be it. Later on I’m thinking about hiking at Schodack Island before running to the store 🏬 and maybe washing the truck. 🛀 More sun โ˜€ expected by afternoon and temperatures above freezing.

Today will have isolated snow showers between 8am and noon. Mostly cloudy โ›…, with a high of 34 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 11th. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 33 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 34 seconds over yesterday.

The solar panel did a nice job at topping off the batteries 🔋 after leaving my truck parked for a week. 🅿 Started real easy yesterday. I am very happy how the system is working on the truck now, I just gotta wait for camping season โ›บ when there are long days and lots of sun.

I wrote a nice little CDTA bus real time mapping app but I want to test it more and set up caching before I make it public. 🚍Really fast too, I was surprised. I really like it and my concern is that if I make it public it could become too popular and use a lot of Google Maps API calls and I’d have to pay for overage fees. Buts it’s definitely good for my personal use now. 🌐

Tonight will snow, mainly after 1am. โ„ Before then cloudy 🌨, with a low of 30 degrees at 8pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 27th. South wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Might make a bit of a nuisance for the Monday commute but I don’t know. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1948.

🌹🌻🌼Only 39 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

That’s certainly less than 40 days. โ˜บ Always funny how when we get to the second week of March it seems like spring is coming quicker. I thought for sure that we would get a real arctic blast come February but besides a cool start to this morning this doesn’t seem the case.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until March 🌨 when the sun will be setting at 5:45 pm with dusk at 6:13 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 39 and 14 degrees. That will be nice. Typically, the high temperature is 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 2017. I think that was the year I went camping at Burnt Rossman Hills State Forest in March. Pretty cool well actually warm.

January 26, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The ground is mostly free of snow and tonight will remain above freezing. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 9 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Went to my parents house and they made stuffed shells 🐚 and carrot cake 🎂. It was good but I eat too much. I got home, hung up my shirts 👚 so they don’t have too many wrinkles. I went out for my evening walk 🚶 and are listening to the the Skeptics Guide to Universe and are about to kill the lights.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers between 10pm and 3am, then a slight chance of snow showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 34 degrees at 5am. 20 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 6th. South wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 11 degrees. The record low of -23 occurred back in 1994.

The record high of 62 was set in 1974. 9.3 inches of snow fell back in 1963.โ„

I am sure the solar panel will keep all the batteries 🔋 well charged with the higher sun angle 📐and the ample sun this week.🌞 On Saturday the batteries were well enough charged that the alternator shut off and ran entirely off the batteries for a short period of time like it will after an extended period driving. It should work great come the summer during an extended period of camping at one campsite in the woods.

Mom and Dad gave me a $100 check for my birthday 🎂. I am thinking about getting an enclosed canopy to use for camping, especially during black fly season on Memorial Day Weekend or during other extended trips when we might have rain โ˜” or bad bugs. It would be nice to have a protected area on a buggy or rainy day to camp be outdoors with a book, a meal or just listening to a podcast and not be trapped in the truck cap. It looks like they range from around $200 to $300 but they are quite popular out camping it seems and it would be great for extended weekends camping. That said, this year with work it might not be an issue – not sure if I’ll be able to get out of town for Memorial Day Weekend. But maybe for summer vacation?

Also this year I think I want to do more back country camping. โ›บ As much as I like truck cap camping with all the gear I have such a craving to do more nights in the wilderness alone. I want to do more different things this summer, I always camp in the same places year after year and it gets kind of boring 💤.
