May 30, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 60 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 53 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

I thought today was a pleasant day. ๐Ÿ’ญ Warm but not too hot. While I stuck around home for a while this morning, the bird hike I took at Schodack Island was quite productive and full of wildlife. ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿฐ ๐Ÿ Not too many crowds on the hiking trail ๐Ÿ‘ช, I think people’s initial desire to get outdoors and be occupied with the little ones is kind of wearing off and most of that’s now happening on weekdays. โ˜ Clouds pushed in at the end of the day.

Rained a bit while I was driving home but I stocked up on $50 worth of Aldi’s groceries. ๐Ÿ I love ๐Ÿ˜ how I can shop for a weeks worth of groceries and be out of the store in less than ten minutes. โฐThere are only four aisles so it’s quick in and out. One other customer when I was there. They’ve taken the arrows down from the aisles โžก as nobody pays attention to them and with the way the store is laid out the arrows don’t work compared to a big box store. I don’t even bother to bring my shopping bags inside anymore, I just bag things in my truck. Keeps them cleaner and more Coronavirus free that way. ๐Ÿ‘พ

I made chilli burgers ๐Ÿ” for lunch and they were good but I’ve sure been a bit gassy ๐Ÿ˜ฒ all afternoon. Chilli with beans on a burger might not be good combo for my stomach. I thought I was going to have to dig a cat hole ๐Ÿ’ฉ a few times when I was out hiking.

I am happy with the haircut โœ‚ I gave myself. Definitely a lot shorter and nicer. I might still want to work on the back. ๐Ÿ’ˆ I had the clippers so I might as well use them. Eventually I go back to the barber but I think I’ll just use the trimmers for now until things are normal enough that masks and specialty are no longer required. ๐Ÿ’‡

Tonight will have isolated showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 23rd. Northwest wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1961.

Tonight will have a First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon with 63% illuminated. At 11 PM, the moon was in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) at an altitude of 38ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,878 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by November 18th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Strawberry ๐Ÿ“ Moon is on Friday, June 5. The darkest hour is at 12:54 am, followed by dawn at 4:48 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:22 am in the east-northeast (59ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 23 seconds. Sunrise is 32 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:04 am with sun in the east-northeast (66ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 55 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 21 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 64 degrees at 4pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 30th. Northwest wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 2013.

Getting up early tomorrow for hiking in the Albany Pine Bush Preserve ๐ŸŒฒ to do some birding and socially distant citizens conservation study. The more time you spend in the woods the more you. ๐Ÿธ I’m really finding myself getting lost and loosing track of time when I spend afternoons studying the woods. It will be great fun with my colleagues.

Watching next weekends forecast โ˜€ but it looks sunny and hot for Thursday through Sunday. My office ๐Ÿข will probably still be remote work only so I could work from my phone or the Speculator library if I wanted to take another long weekend of social distancing up north. I could use some more beach time at the Speculator Beach ๐ŸŠ and maybe come the weekend do some hiking, maybe somewhere different up that way.

In four weeks on June 27 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:37 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 12 minutes and 5 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had hot, mostly sunny, shallow fog and temperatures between 87 and 63 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 60 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1941.

While I know I probably shouldn’t be, ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฅI’ve been watching the unrest unfold in Albany on the Twitter. I heard a few pops earlier in the evening and a police siren but I doubt it’s related. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ Probably just a fender bender locally ๐Ÿš™ on the road. Kind of scary when you watch it all on the Twitter. I hope my absentee ballot applications โŒ isn’t destroyed or lost in the chaos in the south end. I could always vote on the machine but voting at home is a lot more convenient, especially as I suspect there will be much fewer poll workers and polling places โœ‰ during the pandemic.

After all those people looking down at the apparently crowded beaches on the long angle lens and then those dismissing the lock ๐Ÿ”’ down protests as passing the virus around, ๐Ÿ‘พ you have to wonder about these mass rallies over policing across the country. I just don’t like double standards or the bias against conservatives ๐ŸŠ .

Of course, no single event is likely to make a mass spike in cases of Coronavirus ๐Ÿ‘พas single events are burried by statistical noiseโ™’ but together they could set back progress at slowing the spread. You can say no mass gatherings of more than 10 people โœŠ but it’s kind of hard to break up a protest that is criticizing public policy and clearly is first amendment guaranteed. ๐Ÿ“ƒ So much for reopening the economy so quickly should there be an uptick in cases.

I guess there isn’t much I can do about it. ๐Ÿ’ญ My priority has to be to save money, ๐Ÿ’ต enjoy life, protect myself from the government ๐Ÿซ and work for a better tomorrow and eventually my off-grid property. ๐Ÿก I can’t save Albany or change the world ๐ŸŒ but I can make a better life for myself. What’s happening is kind of sad but there is only so much I can do about it.

Looking ahead, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 3 weeks.

 Catskills In The Distance

May 3, 2020 10 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. Nice evening, sat out back for a while. Not feeling terrible but still a little achy from the Lyme. I still need to take the doxycline I got from the doctor Friday. ๐Ÿ’Š

Sleeping with the windows open tonight โฌ› which is nice until I heard the sirens from the meat wagon ๐Ÿš‘go roaring by. I wonder if it’s somebody dying of Coronavirus? Hopefully nobody I know. It’s a question one always asks these days.

I thought about staying up north one more night and driving home early tomorrow ๐Ÿš˜ but I decided against that as I broke camp midday to go hiking. ๐Ÿšถ While hiking the remote section of the abandoned Dunning Pond Snowmobile Trail was quiet I eventually lost the trail as it got into dense woods with lots of trees down and few of the old markers. ๐Ÿ”ด Some nice views of the gorge and then a lot of it was an eroded mountain road until the trail left the road and disappeared into the woods. This wouldn’t have been a big problem if I had the GPS tracks from my Google County Maps part of the blog but of course I managed to somehow delete them off my phone. I got to make sure I have them on the phone along with USGS Topo maps saved. I would have also had a better chance of following the herd path up to Eagle Pond that I had lost on Saturday if I had that data saved. ๐ŸŒWell there always is future trips up north.

It was a pretty good weekend up north ๐Ÿ˜Ž with lots of sun and actually quite mild and warm most of the weekend except for brief rain shower around 10 pm Saturday night ๐Ÿ’ฆwhen I ended up retiring to my truck cap earlier than I had planned. Had a nice big fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ at the same campsite I’ve been at the past few times I’ve been up north on the East Branch Sacandaga River. โ›บ Some traffic ๐Ÿšฅ noise but pretty nice. Spent a lot of time laying back in the hammock, soaking up the sun. โ˜€ The sun felt good especially when I felt achy from the Lyme. Warm enough a good portion of the weekend I could just lay out with a t shirt ๐Ÿ‘š on.

Left my Bluetooth speaker ๐Ÿ”Š home which was annoying when I wanted to listen to podcasts and music ๐ŸŽถ. I’m going to start leaving that in the truck. Better to charge it there too – I don’t pay for the unused solar power the truck produces while parked with the solar controller in float mode. ๐Ÿ”‹ Also forgot ketchup for my hotdogs – ended up topping them with baked beans and cheese. ๐Ÿฃ

Explored more of the Fox Lair remains, I want to do one of those historical aerial photo comparisons, especially if I can find the 1942 aerial photo ๐Ÿ“ท. Not a lot left of the ruins, but I wonder if I can find more old pictures on the internet. ๐ŸฐDid some walking ๐Ÿšถ along NY 8 just for exercise too and to take in the scenery.

Came back relatively early, I was unpacked by about six. ๐Ÿก Laid back on my bed for a while before showering ๐Ÿšฟ and shaving. Got a nice tan. Those side burns I’ve grown are coming in nicely but I do need a hair cut ๐Ÿ’‡. I’m going to do some trimming myself in the morning as who knows when the barber ๐Ÿ’ˆ is going to be allowed to reopen. My barber is so elderly, I wonder if he will just hang up his hat ๐ŸŽฉ after the pandemic. I decided to avoid the expressway and cities home so I took NY 30 to Duanesburg Churches Road past the Mariaville Farm to US 20. Pretty drive with things greening up outside Amsterdam but I tell you there are some sharp curves on NY 30 south of Amsterdam. ๐Ÿ”ถ

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. West wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1985.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 85% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south (175ยฐ) at an altitude of 52ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,511 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 22nd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:16 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:48 am in the east-northeast (68ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 8 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 19 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:27 am with sun in the east-northeast (74ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 46 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers between 11am and 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 57 degrees at 11am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 13th. Northwest wind 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

Tomorrow I probably should go to the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘–๐Ÿ‘• ๐Ÿ‘š and wash some clothes and probably my sheets too. I can probably bring my laptop there and work from there, uploading pictures from the weekend that was. I’m good on food but the two gallons of milk I bought last week is almost all drunk. I do like my cow ๐Ÿฎ beverages. Other than that I should be good on food until mid week.

As I noted previously, last weekend I got another tick bite. ๐ŸœI was sore found it on Tuesday. Its been weird – sometimes I feel fine other times terribly stiff and sore. No bulls eye though. Went to the doctor on Friday, she kind of thought I didn’t have Lyme but gave me doxycline. ๐Ÿ’Š I held off taking it as I went to the Adirondacks for the weekend and knew doxycline and sun don’t mix due to the risk of severe sunburn. I’m also a little mixed on my concern – it stings from time to time around where I was bit, I’ve been super sleepy at times. ๐Ÿ˜ด I don’t want to take an antibiotic I don’t need. But I guess the doctor while questioning ๐Ÿ™‹ me said I should take it. I don’t know what to think.

It was such a werid experience going to the doctors office during the pandemic. ๐Ÿ˜ซThe doors had big signs warning people that if they had cold or flu symptoms they aren’t welcome and that they did not offer Coronavirus testing there. The whole experience was kind of odd and frightening. ๐Ÿ‘พ

While I’m always cautious about social distancing and wearing a mask out in public places but between the limited vision under the banada, the empty doctors office, the hand sanitizer everywhere and all these things like a special Coronavirus questionnaire that I had to do on my phone before the doctor would see me. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I was so creeped out by the experience.

In four weeks on May 31 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) at 8:26 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 53 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, mist and temperatures between 76 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 52 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 2013.

It looks like for Mothers Day it’s going to be cold and they might get snow in the Adirondacks. โ„ It does not look like a good weekend to get out of town. I’m still thinking about a mid May trip out to Schoharie County – maybe three nights with me working from my truck on a Monday. โ›บ I’m thinking the last week of May – the one after Memorial Day Weekend – to do a three night trip to Piseco Powley Road starting that Thursday night before the weekend if it is nice. I hope to have the screen house by then to avoid the bugs. Peak black fly season isn’t so bad if I have shelter during the day as black flies aren’t out after dark. Memorial Day Weekend proper I’ll stay home ๐Ÿก most likely to avoid the crowds especially if other developed campgrounds are closed forcing people into the back country taking up all the good sites. I’m also seriously thinking about planning my summer vacation up at Piseco Powley Road – and a week at the House Pond Swimming Hole could make up for all the state park pools being closed. ๐ŸŠ I’d have to see about getting a camping permit.

Looking ahead, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 1 week, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 2 weeks, Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 5 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 6 weeks, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 6 months and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 6 months.

Tulip Time!

March 8, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Daylight Savings Time ๐ŸŒ†! I hope you remembered to set your clock ahead one hour last night but not on Microsoft Windows which reminds you with a big note. ๐Ÿ“ Linux does it too but doesn’t make a big deal about it. Next Sunday is Ides of March โœ. We will already be halfway through March at that point. Partly cloudy and 24 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Calm wind. Cold start to the morning but it’s expected to warm up quickly.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 57 degrees at 4pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 12th. I like it when April weather comes a month early. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 2012. 6.5 inches of snow fell back in 2013.โ„

This morning I am meeting some people and going for a walk at the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒIt should be a really nice day. Later on I’ll probably go for a hike somewhere to be decided then out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. ๐Ÿฒ Maybe Thacher Park?๐Ÿ’ญ I haven’t been up way that in a while but some of trails might be really muddy. Tomorrow is going to be even nicer but alas me gotta work ๐Ÿ‘ท and make money ๐Ÿ’ต so I can enjoy the real nice weather when it happens. โ˜€

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 42.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-28.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:17 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (258ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (265ยฐ) starting at 6:51 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:22 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Worm Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east (88ยฐ) at an altitude of 17ยฐ from the horizon, 227,384 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:55 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 52 degrees. There will be a west-southwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 34 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 6th. South wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -14 occurred back in 1943.

In 1965, Thirty-five hundred United States Marines are the first American land combat forces committed during the Vietnam War. ๐Ÿ’ฃ The escalation of the war was well underway at that point. It would last for another decade and was pretty tragic for all parties involved.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 11 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

As previously noted, next Sunday is Ides of March โœ when the sun will be setting at 7:02 pm with dusk at 7:30 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, but quite warm with rain showers and temperatures between 72 and 44 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 44 degrees. We hit a record high of 72 back in 2019.

 Typical winter 2016 afternoon

March 7, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 8 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

It was a good day, spent a lot of time in the woods walking ๐Ÿšถ, observing nature and so forth. Five Rivers in the morning, Schodack Island in the afternoon. My knees and leg have been a bit achy all day, in part from the cramp in the morning and also I think the Lyme disease ๐Ÿœ.

Went shopping and got most of the supplies that I needed. ๐Ÿ Probably too many – I shopped at Aldi and Walmart. I didn’t have enough reusable bags when I was in Walmart so I had to kind of overpack one of the bags. ๐Ÿ›„ I think the whole banning plastic bags is so silly but liberals like it. Honestly if when I move to a state with free plastic bags, I’ll be quite happy to use them again and chuck them in the burn barrel with the rest of the burnable trash. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Probably ventilated with a handgun ๐Ÿ”ซ that I wouldn’t need a permit for in a free state. ๐Ÿ†“

I don’t get the need for the plastic bag bans when they’re talking about developing vast areas of land for solar farms. โ—ปWith folks proposing 100 acre and even 1,000 acre solar farms what’s the big deal with sitting a 100 acre landfill that could provide disposal capacity for a region for a half century or more? ๐ŸšฎOH, and I took my junk mail and waste paper to the recycling dumpster at the Park and Ride. Greeny of the year. โ™ป LOL ๐Ÿ˜‚.

I washed Big Red. ๐Ÿš˜ Wasn’t super dirty but I wanted to get the mud off it and residual salt off it before it warms up. Filled up the gas tank โ›ฝ as gas has come down in price due to everybody’s silly fears of a Corona Recession. Democrats really want a recession so they can replace the president, although nobody serious seems to be advancing in the primary. ๐Ÿ›„

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 19 degrees at 4am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 24th. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 7 degrees. The record low of -2 occurred back in 1989.

Tonight will have a nearly Full ๐ŸŒ Moon with 96% illuminated. I saw it rising around 5 pm at Schodack Island State Park. At 9 PM, the moon was in the southeast (129ยฐ) at an altitude of 55ยฐ from the horizon, some 228,683 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 28th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Monday, March 9. The darkest hour is at 12:07 am, followed by dawn at 5:53 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:21 am in the east (96ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 55 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:59 am with sun in the east-southeast (103ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 25 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 57 degrees at 3pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 12th. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph. Should be a nice day. Tempted to open some windows for fresh air in the morning. Definitely on Monday. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 2012. 6.5 inches of snow fell back in 2013.โ„

In four weeks on April 4 the sun will be setting in the west (279ยฐ) at 7:25 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 32 minutes and 28 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 47 and 30 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 53 and 33 degrees. The record high of 79 degrees was set back in 1950.

Looking ahead, Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ is in 3 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is a month away, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ is in 6 weeks, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 2 months, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 10 weeks, Memorial Day Weekend Starts ๐Ÿ•๏ธ is in 11 weeks, Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 3 months, and Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 15 weeks.

Building Shadow Analysis Program

Building Shadow Analysis Program

Earlier this week I wrote a small PHP script for analysis of the shadow cast by buildings on the surrounding landscape. To obtain sun position and altitude, it relies on SunCalc PHP which must be included in the script. It goes throughout the year, churning out how much of a shadow a building will produce each hour, in feet and direction. Additionally, the script will calculate the maximum point the shadow will be cast as a set of coordinates.

<?php
// The current values entered into this script currently are for the Empire Plaza.
$latitude =  42.64915;
$longitude = -73.75950;
$height =  610;

$start = strtotime("January 1, 2020 12 AM");
$end = strtotime("December 31, 2020 11 PM");

include("suncalc.php");

// Compass as a Reference
$compass = array(

January 30, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Getting my teeth cleaned this morning.🦷 Lucky me. Next Thursday Save the Pine Bush Turns 42 🦋. Been a long time since Dick Patrick and Mayor Erastus Corning had their public hearing on the Lone Pine Development during the 1978 blizzard when all of state government was shut down but not the city’s planning board hearing at the old Herman Bleecker library downtown. 🌲

Bright and sunny and 18 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 Calm wind. 🍃 Things will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. 🌡๏ธ Without the wind and the bright sun pushing thirty degrees altitude by noon time, not too bad. Indeed the latest forecast predicts weather a few degrees above normal by late afternoon. โ™จ Seems like the old heater has kept up fine in my apartment and it’s quite comfortable inside. That said, I think I’ll drive to the dentist just because if I miss the bus I can either drive home or wait inside my truck for the next bus 🚍 so I’m not stuck out in the cold โ„.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 35 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 15th. Light and variable wind. I’ll take that for late January. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 28 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 2013. 11 inches of snow fell back in 1966.โ„

Hopefully I’ll survive my dentist appointment. 🦷 I really should floss more and I am a bad person for that but I do brush my teeth regularly and the past few years I’ve been getting biyearly cleanings so hopefully I won’t be buck tooth too soon. I haven’t been drinking as much milk lately 🐮 – maybe a gallon a week in favor of apple juice 🍏 which is terrible for my teeth but I get tired of milk and apple juice at least is healthier than beer or soda. I do drink a lot of florinated water 💦 too. I support science and urban water florination and yes the milk I drink is pasteurized as I don’t own my own cow 🐮 and it only takes a little amount of bacteria of the wrong type in the bulk tank to make you very sick, and despite the iodine teat dip and properly stripping teats, cows do lay in the grass, mud and manure all day.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 29.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-41.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). I’m thinking tomorrow will be thirty degrees noontime altitude but only if it’s sunny out will it matter much. I heard the mercury could teach fifty on Monday and The golden hour 🏅 starts at 4:24 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (239ยฐ). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (246ยฐ) starting at 5:03 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 10 seconds with dusk around 5:35 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter 🌓 Moon in the south-southwest (204ยฐ) at an altitude of 47ยฐ from the horizon, 251,535 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 6:10 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around the freezing point. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 53 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 16 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 17 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 11th. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Works for me. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to -3 degrees. The record low of -26 occurred back in 1948.

I briefly checked the fluids in my truck and they’re all good. โ›ฝ I haven’t had to add oil since the November oil change at the dealership. I’ve also noticed that the lifter that was clicking has stopped. Maybe the sludge in the engine has fixed the problem. I do doing synthetic oil changes and lately been going to the dealer with the long hours and good price for regular maintenance. Maybe I will be able to get several more years out of the truck. I still will need to get new 35 inch tires probably at the end of the year and probably an alignment and that ain’t cheap but it’s been six years by the end of next year since I jacked up my truck. 🚘

Nothing to celebrate this weekend except maybe the Ground Hawg not seeing his shadow. 🐻 Saturday, a slight chance of snow showers before noon, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers between noon and 1pm, then a slight chance of rain showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. โ˜ Typical average high for the weekend is 32 degrees.

🌹🌻🌼Only 49 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

49 days of winter left, 49 days of winter left. Take one down, pass it around….

As previously noted, next Thursday is Save the Pine Bush Turns 42 🦋 when the sun will be setting at 5:14 pm with dusk at 5:44 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain and temperatures between 37 and 25 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 55 back in 1991.
