I’ve decided to send a check to Protect the Adirondacks 🌲

In related news, I’ve decided to buy a house in Clifton Park with vinyl siding, cathedral ceilings, marble counter tops, grid tied solar panels and a giant picture of Joe Biden in the living room. That sure sounds creepy. I am also buying an electric SUV to drive to work, and to Commissioner Grannis promise I’ll wash out and recycle plastics and not burn them any more.

Good morning on this first day of Trout Season! 🎣 Cloudy and 37 degrees at the Delmar, NY. ☁ Calm wind. Good conditions for getting snookered on the interwebs or hitting the trout hole, although creek levels might be a bit high. Not much sun for shadows at all this week but the river levels will be rising midweek. The skies will clear Saturday around 8 pm.

My pantry is quite bare 🥚 but I managed to cook some eggs with spinach and corn 🍳and bake some bread 🍞 and a big pot of rice and split peas for dinner. 🫘 Got milk 🐮 for my coffee and I should be good ☕ once I go shopping 🛒 tonight after dinner. I also plan to wash the salt off Big Red. 🛻

Today will have a slight chance of showers between 11am and noon. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 55 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 6th. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 77 was set in 1986. 5.0 inches of snow fell back in 1924.❄

Probably today is the best weather day of the week for riding to work 🚲 but I’m hoping at least to ride in again on Friday and maybe work the afternoon downtown and catch the bus home Friday. It’s fine, Tuesday evening when it’s raining I’ll bring my laptop 💻 home as I need to work on a few things at home.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 52.1° from the due south horizon (-18.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 6:45 pm with the sun in the west (271°). 📸 The sunset is in the west (277°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:22 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:50 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:24 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 50 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

I got to say I’m glad these days I’m no longer involved in the state budget or the Capitol Hill life. 🏛️It’s nice having my evenings back and not sleeping under my desk or running reports at 2 am. It’s just another ordinary day ahead for me in the data services department. 💾 Run reports, supervise data entry people, talk to the programmers. Fun stuff.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 37 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 15th. Light and variable wind becoming north 5 to 9 mph in the evening. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of 17 occurred back in 1964.

Besides shopping this evening 📚 I plan to do more reading of the e-books I got from the library. It was a bummer that you can’t read e-books more than two days after not having cell service but how often am I that far off the grid except camping at the East Branch Sacandaga River or Piseco-Powley. Most of the time, e-library books really are the way to go especially for the first two days. It’s so much easier to carry books on my phone 📱. Plus no worries about them getting wet or damaged.

After a rainy week some improvements ahead. ☀ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 53. Typical average high for the weekend is 55 degrees. Not terrible for early April but still a bit cool. The following week might really feel spring like. But this weekend I’ll probably stay in town.

Not sure when my next trip will be ⛺ but not this weekend. I might do Charles Baker in Madison County come later April or Burnt-Rossman in Schoharie. Lower elevations will see spring first. 🌸 All depends on how much it warms up next week. I wouldn’t mind taking off another Friday.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Tax Day 💰 when the sun will be setting at 7:39 pm with dusk at 8:07 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly sunny skies and a nice warm day with a thunderstorm and temperatures between 84 and 52 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 59 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2003. I’d take weather like that for reading down at the park.

Happy Thanksgiving 🦃

You can get anything you want at Alice’s Restaurant, exceptin Alice. Don’t get caught driving garbage around town, but at least have a big bonfire while cooking the turkey. Fairly wet out everywhere, but do be careful in places without snow.

Good morning! Happy Thanksgiving all yeah turkeys. 🦃 Lots of turkey farms in the Sweedlin Valley of West Virginia. Kind of a chilly start this morning with the breeze. Partly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ There is a northwest breeze at 10 mph. 🍃 with gusts up to 20 mph 💨💨💨. There is a inch of snow on the ground. ☃ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 4 pm. ☃️

Thanksgiving Day will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 46 degrees at 1pm. Typical for today. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1931. 5.0 inches of snow fell back in 1943.❄

This morning I plan to ride down to the Van Rensselaer Preserve off US 9W 🚲 just to explore and get some exercise in. Then I will be heading out to the folks house for Thanksgiving dinner. 🍽 Maybe listen to Alice’s Restaurant, as that’s what you do on Thanksgiving. 🎸 📻 And work on getting packed for a trip up to the Adirondacks tomorrow for a long weekend. Will need to get some groceries, but just planning on a fairly quiet weekend. 🛒 While the mauls and big boxes will likely be packed for Black Friday, who grocery shops after Thanksgiving?

Had a nice breakfast of eggs and fixings 🍳 as I figured start the morning out with a good dose of protein and fiber before the big Thanksgiving Day meal. 😋 Most of the time I try to eat healthy, but it is Thanksgiving, though I’ll work on eating a diverse proportion of both good and bad stuff, saving room for the pie. 🥧 I figure I can burn it off chopping wood and hiking during the upcoming weekend, lol.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:43 am with sun having an altitude of 27.1° from the due south horizon (-43.7° vs. 6/21). In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 2000.

Cool by late November standards but sunny and fairly decent for the weekend after Thanksgiving. 😎 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 42. Typical average high for the weekend is 45 degrees.

It looks like Friday night will drop down into the single digits ❄️ but other then that it should be a nice, sunny weekend. 🏕 I figure have a good fire on Friday night, and lots of hot coffee and eggs for breakfast on Saturday morning. Might get a little snow on Sunday evening but it looks like it will clear out and warm up that the drive back on Monday shouldn’t be a problem.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until First Day of Winter ☃️ when the sun will be setting at 4:26 pm with dusk at 4:56 pm. Already by then picking up a few minutes in the evening. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 34 and 16 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 37 degrees. We hit a record high of 62 back in 2018.

One of Many Forks of Chenango River

It’s not a half bad morning today 🌅

Moving forward on this Thursday morning, the weekend is moving closer. Doesn’t look like a wash out this weekend locally but kind of gray again. The same can’t be said though about the High Country of West Virginia unfortunately. But that’s nothing I can change no matter how much I refresh the web page for the Tucker County forecast.

Good morning! Partly cloudy and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ Calm wind.

Eggs, onions, veggies and probably too much spices 🍳 for breakfast this morning. Didn’t get up real early today, quarter to five as by the time I got unpacked from my trip to Wally World and lights out 🛏 it was well after nine. Plus no big meals 🍴 cooking this morning, did most of my cooking yesterday. ☕ When I get home I’ll have that second cup of coffee with cinnamon and ginger, maybe a few blueberries 🫐, shower 🚿 and ride to work. 🚲 Bike rides so much smoother and better since I got that waterproof ⚙ chain oil. The dry chain oil worked okay but not for long.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 64 degrees at 2pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 11th. Maximum dew point of 48 at 10am. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 85 was set in 1954. There was a dusting of snow in 1904.❄

Should be a great day for a bike ride into the office. 🚲 Third day in the row, not too bad, though yesterday was kind of cloudy. I definitely used both the front and rear lights yesterday for safety, with the shadows and clouds hanging over low over everything. It’s nice being able to plug things in and things quickly charge with the USB charger overnight. I also will enjoy that sunlight soaking through the window as I work on the stack of cap grants on my desk. 📃 Then this afternoon it’s off to the dungeon for a while for some darkness. Not going to be the same in the break-room 🍬 since I’ve gotten into the healthy eating thing.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:43 pm with sun having an altitude of 40.1° from the due south horizon (-30.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 5:42 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (254°). 📸 The sunset is in the west (261°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:20 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 6:47 pm, which is one minute and 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 7:21 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 59 degrees. The dew point will be 47 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 7 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over today.

Yesterday I went Walmart and got socks, boxers, and supplies. 🛒 They didn’t have gray socks so I ended up deciding on black socks 🧦 which are fine as I didn’t want easily stained white socks. Nice having boxers that fit well now that I’m so much slimmer and aren’t totally worn out. I’ve actually been tossing a lot of old boxers and socks in the rag pile lately to take to the recycling dumpster, as many have gotten holes or are otherwise worn through. Got Keifer milk (fermented milk) as something new to try, it’s like yogurt but thinner like milk and supposedly is really good for the gut with all kinds of healthy live bacteria unlike most yogurt where the bacteria is killed before consumption.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌆, with a low of 41 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 15th. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1981.

Mice have been bad this year 🐭 in my apartment since it’s gotten cool, so I picked up some additional sticky and traditional spring mouse traps. Usually once I catch enough of them they thin out for the winter. I think they probably like all the bread crumbs and other crumbs with all the fresh cooking I do these days. 🍞 I don’t mind that much except when they chew holes in the walls, and crap all over my griddle and spread disease, but they’re also annoying when once scurries off. My experience is though overtime with the traps, they’ll disappear. I could also get out the bucket trap which is often quite effective for a while until it no longer is once they figure it out or get enough thinned out.

Not as wet for the Albany area this weekend, as the low center and rain has moved south. 🌧 Instead of us getting it, it will be West Virginia, where I was planning on going this weekend, lol. Saturday, a chance of rain, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Still hardly a banner weekend. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees.

I might end up heading up to the Albany Pine Bush 🦋 to ride trail with Blackie and to the Salvation Army to look at some more clothes, stop by Farmer’s Indian Marker and Aldis for more spices and groceries, and maybe explore the Italian or Chinese markets further down center. 👩‍💼 At this point especially I should see if I can get some dress shirts at Salvation Army for work, or other “nice” stuff to wear in the winter that fits me well. At least it’s not going to be as wet as originally predicted. 🌧

Further out, next Thursday is Average High is 60 🍂 when the sun will be setting at 6:08 pm with dusk at 6:36 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 53 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 60 degrees. We hit a record high of 79 back in 1963.

View of the Old Letchworth Bridge

Maybe some Radical Acceptance is the key to climbing the Hump Day 🐪

Kind of a pretty sunrise this morning and it should be a nice bike ride to work. I’ll close out that background I’m reviewing, call back the doctor, call the General about the airbag, move forward. It’s kind of the midpoint of everything but I’m moving forward.

Good morning! What day is it? A Day I’m Embracing, of course. Mostly clear and 52 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. 🌅 Calm wind. The dew point is 45 degrees.

Yes, I’m actually out walking 🚶 this morning. The past few days I’ve been bad, though I either rode my bike to work 🚲 or walked the Plaza before work on Monday. Tuesday’s ride to work wasn’t bad though I think 🤔 I should lubricate the chain 🔗 again before heading to work. Mornings are dark and there is such a short window before the smoldering cars along the road at the High School 🚸 start. It’s just toxic and noxious to walk past all those idling cars along the road.

More fresh bread 🍞 was baked this morning. Experimenting with yeast, sugar and water to get more rise and perfect 👌 my bread. Apple oatmeal pancakes 🥞 for breakfast this morning. Last night was salmon with sweet potatoes 🍠 and onions with lemon 🍋 which was tasty with mango for dessert. I’m not complaining about buying a big bag of frozen mango at the store on Monday. Eating well, but not too many calories, though I have to be careful about all those carbs in fresh-homemade bread, though no added sugar and it’s whole wheat. Getting a better rise this time. Now I got to make more walnut butter up. Okay, I’ve totally fallen off the healthy-eating rocker.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 70 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 26th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 10am. Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

To wear jeans 👖 or not? That’s the question, though I only have three pair that fit me properly. That said, I can probably wear the same pair of jeans twice. Maybe though today is cooler day, so better to wear jeans today and then shorts tomorrow, with jeans again on Friday. I don’t care about the weekend, I can always wear baggy jeans or re-wear somewhat dirty ones, especially if I go camping or just take the Nature Bus 🚵‍♀️ to ride trails up at Thacher Park.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:50 pm with sun having an altitude of 48.5° from the due south horizon (-22.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 5.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 6:21 pm with the sun in the west (266°). 📸 The sunset is in the west (272°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:59 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:25 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter 🌓 Moon in the south-southwest (212°) at an altitude of 16° from the horizon, 236,305 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:00 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 8 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over today.

Riding Blackie to work today, 🚲 it might be a cool start to the morning but should be a beautiful commute both and to and from work. I just need to dress warmly and be careful on way back with all the cars in shadows. 👻 I have to admit I can’t wait for the leaves to be off the trees 🌲 for better visibility on some of the intersections during the commute. But then it will likely be dark out 🌆 and I’ll have to take the bus home in the evening, ❄️ not to mention that the rail trail will get covered with snow and ice, to say nothing of it being cold to ride.

So I have a list of things to do today. 📃 I need to call the doctor back about my blood work, though it’s hardly a priority as I’ve stopped having the pissing problem 🚽 once I cut back on drinking so much coffee in the morning ☕ and are more careful about how much water is in my oatmeal and eating too much zucchini 🍆 and tomatoes 🍅. I think that friend of mine who got my so worked up about my weight loss is a jerk. Also, no overnight oatmeal 🥣 before or fresh peaches 🍑 during road trips anymore. Might be easy until you find yourself pissing every five minutes. Also going to call the General about when I can have the air bag inflator recall replaced on Big Red, lest I get into an accident with somebody in the passenger seat. 🎈 The Taka Airbag Recall is kind of serious, but I rarely have a passenger, so I didn’t really care.

Tonight will have patchy fog between 4am and 5am. Otherwise, mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 44 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 7th. Northwest wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1973.

Went down to the library last night 📚 returned a bunch of books and looked and browsed books, but didn’t end up taking out anything. Sure gets dark out early, 👣 but I got my steps in. Tonight, I am thinking after a dinner of tomato and spinach wraps on homemade whole-wheat flatbread, 🌯 I will go for a walk 🚶‍♀️ around dusk for my steps 👣 and maybe start going through clothes, putting away most of my summer clothes and things that are too big to fit and getting out some of the clothes John Wolcott’s wife gifted to me, along with some other things that fit well like I got from dad. 👕 I’m tired of looking like a concentration camp survivor, or having to dig through so many big clothes that don’t fit anymore.

Still chewing over the blog, ✍ I mean I like doing it, but it’s a lot of money but then again it’s three years and blogging gives me a lot of pleasure.  I guess it’s not that big of a hike from three years ago, but it feels like. Used to be a lot less cost. 🤑 I really could improve some of the code, get rid of some of the outdated crap and just make things a ton more efficient. There is a lot of things on the blog that are obsolete or old and outdated, and should be removed, as sometimes they randomly pop up on search engines. 🔍 And what I said years ago isn’t necessarily who I am today.

Somewhat of an improvement for the weekend. 🌥 Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Maximum dew point of 55 at 4pm. Sunday, a chance of showers before 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 71. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 72 degrees.

It’s been going back and forth on the weekend, but I am thinking it will be stay-in-town weekend for heading out mountain biking at Thacher Park. 🚵‍♀️ Maybe I’ll ride down from the park after trail riding, though I think I will skip the trip down to Warner’s Lake as that was a good trip back up there. Sunday I’ll probably go out to the folks house for Sunday dinner, 🍽 and who knows I could go somewhere else to ride trail. I know they’ve built a good network of mountain bike trails on Wolf Hill, that might be fun to do. Ultimately depends on how wet the weekend turns out to be.

As previously noted, next Wednesday is More Night then Day 🌌 when the sun will be setting at 6:46 pm with dusk at 7:12 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 68 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 2017.

January 27, 2021 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? A Snowy Hump Day, of course. 🐪 I wonder if you can make ice cream with camel milk? I guess you probably can. 🍨 Three weeks to 5:30 PM Sunset 🌇 . Snow and 27 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ Calm wind. Picked up a few inches last night – now there are 4 inches of snow on the ground. ☃ ️Things will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. 🌡️

Kind of a pretty morning after the snow storm, 🌨 which really wasn’t much of a big deal – maybe 3 or 4 inches we got last night although it’s expected to stay around with the cold. 😴 I was feeling a bit congested last night, so I ended up taking some antihistamine and falling asleep around 5 AM until the morning. I made a big pan of Marconi and Cheese last night so I’m not real hungry this morning, so just some coffee ☕ and English muffins before the morning walk in the winter wonderland. If it only would clear out now… at least I heard the sidewalk snowplow go by so that should be clear by the time I do my walk. Listening to Simon and Garfunkel’s I am a Rock, as I look out the window at the falling snow, getting ready for my walk. 🚶

Yesterday, was a pretty quiet day. 🤔 I felt kind of sick and stuffy for part of the day, but it was mostly just emails and watching session on my phone. I got so chilled through by the middle of the day, so I ended up spending too much of the day sitting by the heater. I turned the downstairs heat up a few degrees last night before bed so it’s pretty comfortable today, and I’m feeling better. I’m just ready for winter to be other. I misplaced my tax reforms yesterday, and was looking for them, and found my 2008 tax form. I make a lot more money then I did 12 years ago, although money feels just as tight if not tighter because everything has gotten more expensive.

Today will snow, mainly before 10am, then a chance of snow showers after noon. 🌦 High of 33 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 11th. Light northwest wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1974. 9.3 inches of snow fell back in 1963.❄

I have a mid-day virtual meeting today, 💼 but I wasn’t seriously considering going shopping at lunch time today. I’ll probably do Thursday at lunchtime to buy groceries then go to the library briefly, as there will be sun but I expect it to be cold. There are a few files I want to grab while I’m down at the library, including resyncing the blog and some GIS data for future mapping projects. 🗺The sun will be nice come tomorrow but it will be cold and get even colder as Friday rolls around. 🌬

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 29° from the due south horizon (-41.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. With the clouds, not much for shadows today. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 4:21 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (246°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:03 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 5:32 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Wolf Full 🌝 Moon in the east-northeast (73°) at an altitude of 18° from the horizon, 241,096 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 6:07 pm. At sunset, look for snow 🌨 and temperatures around 32 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 51 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 14 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 10pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 20 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 25th. Maximum wind chill around 9 at 6am; Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2020, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 2005.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 11 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. 😃 Saturday, sunny, with a high near 17. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 24. Typical average high for the weekend is 31 degrees. It’s going to be pretty cold this weekend. This weekend though it doesn’t look like it’s going to be particularly breezy, so I’d like to get outside and do something fun, maybe not super far from home so I don’t end up burning that much gas.

🌹🌻🌼Only 52 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼 Friday, my birthday will mark 50 days until spring. It’s kind of fun counting down the days, as it makes it seem like the days are going by quicker.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Clean Your Computer Day 🧹 when the sun will be setting at 5:21 pm with dusk at 5:50 pm. It took forever to get Winders cleaned up on my laptop, but it seems to work good now. Never did get Virtual Box working though, so I’m thinking of removing that. On that day in 2020, we had snow showers, cloudy, mild and temperatures between 41 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1955.

November 21, 2020 10 AM Update

Good morning! It’s Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone 🦌! Big game ain’t my thing living in the suburbs but all my country buds are up in their stands today with their rifles and shotguns. 🔫 Next Saturday is Small Business Saturday. 🛍️ I’ll probably be out camping, God willing. Partly cloudy and 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ There is a northwest breeze at 15 mph. 🍃 with gusts up to 25 mph 💨💨💨. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday morning around midnight. ☃️

Cornbread pancakes 🥞 this morning for breakfast. I like them, they are a nice hardy breakfast compared to having regular pancakes with fruit 🍒 which can get boring after a while although I’ve been seriously enjoying the frozen pineapple chunks 🍍 I’ve been having all week. I like frozen fruits and vegetables as they don’t have a lot of packaging to get rid of and they are inexpensive and don’t spoil in the freezer.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 50 degrees at 10am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 11th. At least back in the day. Northwest wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 0.8 inches of snow fell back in 1937.❄

I am going to walk out to Five Rivers 🐦 a little after noon. This way I can have lunch before I leave and just bring my binoculars and camera 📸. Sunny now, maybe I should go now but I’m enjoying a lazy Saturday listening 👂🏻 to the radio 📻, wasting bandwidth on Facebook. 📱

I had the heat on Thursday but since then it’s been mild enough ♨ I’ve been keeping it turned down. I am sure I’ll need more in a few weeks especially working from home but I’m thinking I’ll get a heating pad and maybe a small desktop heater with a fan to turn on briefly when I get chilled and don’t want to necessarily crank up the heat on both floors of the apartment or use the upstairs electric baseboard heat. It’s gas downstairs, but that heater is rather slow.

Tomorrow doesn’t sound really nice 😔 but I’m probably going out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. 🍲 Maybe a morning walk like last week, depending on the weather. I should run to the store 🏬 next week before the craziness 🤪 of Black Friday and holiday / Thanksgiving shopping 🛒 to get some food and supplies, and return beer cans ♻ that have been sitting in the back of my truck since I camped at Stoney Pond.

November 1, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy November 🥧! This is my favorite month of the year. Mostly because of the pumpkin pie. 🎃 Plus I love the ways the woods looks on a clear November Day and long nights around the campfire. 🔥Big warm up next week. 😊Five weeks to First Sunday of Advent ✝️.

We’ve had a few breaks of sun, but I’d say it’s mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 13 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 5 am. ☃️Not uncommon for November.

It was a nice hike to Five Rivers 🐦 yesterday but it sure gets dark early now and even darker come today with the time change. Nice bright Halloween Blue Moon 🌕 last night – I looked at it through the window but it was kind of cold so I stayed inside. Still having a lot of trouble sleeping so I retired to bed early last night 🛏 and took full advantage of the extra hour of sleep 😴 during the extra hour we got last night.

The autumn sleeping problem 💤 is particularly accute this year but I’ve been trying to get to bed 🛏 extra early and sleep up later to deal with the many hours I spend awake in the wee hours of the day listening to random podcasts. 🚜 Learning a lot about random agriculture topics and hunting 🦌 when I end up at two AM not being able to sleep. I am going to buy some sleeping pills 💊 today. At least with the extra hours in bed I’ve been sleeping I haven’t been super tired in the day time like in years past.

Today will have showers, mainly after 2pm. 🌦 High of 50 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 10th. More mercury than yesterday but colder with a breeze and showers. South wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1950. 3.9 inches of snow fell back in 1951.❄

With the rain it’s certain to get dark early tonight. 🌃 The time change too. I have some work stuff to do this afternoon 💻 before I squeeze in a walk assuming it’s not raining out this evening.
