Good evening! Snow flurries but otherwise partly clear with a bright moonlit sky on the fresh but icy snow and 21 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. 🍃 with gusts up to 29 mph 💨💨💨. The current wind chill is 8. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Sunday around 2 pm. 🌡๏ธ

Definitely a cold night with the wind but I turned up the heat before I left for work today and a few more degrees when I hit home so it’s very comfortable. With the mild weather all winter the heating bills have been quite modest. I stayed home and reheated the stuff shells mom made for my birthday 🎂. I rode the exercise bike for a half hour and then read 📖 more of that Almost President book. I played around with some code from the CDTA jquery stream but I doubt I’ll do much with it as I’ve run into a lot of cross origin issues with the browser and caching and fetching the data with my web hosting would be slow. Plus the CDTA website with the realtime map works well enough for me and I’m not that interested in sitting down and spending much more time coding it. 💻 I don’t like computer programming and writing software and scripts as much as I once did.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before 11pm. Areas of blowing snow before 11pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 16 degrees at 6am. Typical for tonight. Maximum wind chill around 5 at 6am; West wind 9 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 1950.

Tonight will have a close to Full 🌝 Moon with 98% illuminated. Looks so bright out with the icy snow everywhere. At 10 PM, the moon was in the southeast (140ยฐ) at an altitude of 65ยฐ from the horizon, some 231,587 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 1st. It’s actually quite close relatively speaking but still – Buckle up for safety! 💺The moon is almost as high overhead tonight as the late summer sun. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Sunday, February 9. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:35 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:04 am in the east-southeast (111ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 6 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:45 am with sun in the east-southeast (118ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 45 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 25 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees below normal. West wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. That wind is going to make it feel frigid and it will only get colder as night falls tomorrow. We’ll we were overdue for some cold. Winter lately has been coming late. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 52 was set in 1925. 14 inches of snow fell back in 1895.โ„

Not totally sure what the plans are for tomorrow. I have a did sweep the snow off Big Red but she’s covered with ice from the change over. I’m hoping the sun will quickly melt the ice in the morning. โ˜€ I might still go to Johnstown for the outdoors show but that’s a long trip for a relatively small little show especially if it’s too cold and windy to go skiing or camping there after. I’d almost rather stay home and save the gas if it’s frigid. Might also go out to the folks house tomorrow rather than Sunday as I’m concerned about snow on Sunday evening again.

In four weeks on March 6 the sun will be setting in the west (263ยฐ) at 5:51 pm,🌄 which is 35 minutes and 31 seconds later then tonight. As the first day of spring approaches the sun becomes close to due west for the sunset. In 2019 on that day, we had cold, mostly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 22 and 9 degrees. I wonder if our March this year will be so cold. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 22 degrees. The record high of 63 degrees was set back in 1974.

Looking ahead, Valentines Day โค๏ธ is in 1 week, 7 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 5 weeks, Spring 🌷 is in 6 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset 🌇 is in 2 months, Good Friday โœ๏ธ is in 9 weeks, May 🕊 is in 12 weeks, Flower Moon 🌕 is in 3 months, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 17 weeks and Strawberry Moon 🌕 is in 4 months.

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 28 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind.Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Not a terribly cold night and it’s going to warm up as the snow approaches.

My neighbor was out so I decided to stay home, ride the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ and catch up on the videos I downloaded over the weekend. Nothing too exciting but I really like watching those trap line videos, especially Trap Lines and Inlines channel with his tiny hunt camp and his work snaring wolf. Then I read more about Stephen Douglas in the book I’m reading ๐Ÿ“– on Almost President. I could have gone out but I get exercise on the bike and it’s not as cold inside as out. I was going to go to the library but I decided against it as it was getting late and lately it seems like the library is always a lot more crowded than in the past.

I ordered a solder flux pen โœ’ to better clean some of boards and wires I’m soldering. I’ve been having trouble getting solder to stick to the latest batch of perf board I got from China – it maybe just be really shitty but I want to see if extra flux helps.

Tonight will snow likely before 3am, then snow and sleet. ๐ŸŒจ Low of 27 degrees at 11pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 19th. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total nighttime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1948.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 87% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the south (170ยฐ) at an altitude of 71ยฐ from the horizon, some 237,106 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 3rd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ Fairly close by, but I but still use your safety belt as most crashes happen close to home. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Sunday, February 9. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:37 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:07 am in the east-southeast (111ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 7 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 8 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:48 am with sun in the east-southeast (118ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 50 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 29 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have freezing rain and sleet before 8am, then freezing rain between 8am and noon, then rain likely after noon. ๐ŸŒง High of 35 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 15th. Might be kind of a sloppy commute on the way to work. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 1991. 10.8 inches of snow fell back in 1978.โ„

Looking at the latest predictions this weekend will be quite bitterly cold with temperatures well into the negative range up north โ˜€ so I think camping โ›บ is off the agenda. Plus a lot more snow than was originally predicted. We’ll before you know it winter will be over. I might not get out of town again until April. While I don’t have the late night’s with my current job I do expect things to be even busier and more difficult to get off at the end of March.

In four weeks on March 4 the sun will be setting in the west (262ยฐ) at 5:49 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 44 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had snow showers, partly sunny and temperatures between 34 and 17 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 22 degrees. It was kind of a cold March last year I remember. The record high of 59 degrees was set back in 1919.

Short Street Sunset

Oh, woah, woah, woah, it’s Friday 13th ๐Ÿ‘ป

It’s a guess a spooky thing being October and Halloween in three weeks but whatever. Cold start to the morning but at least it’s clear and I’m out walking.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday the 13th! Clear and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Pumpkin – oatmeal pancakes ๐Ÿฅž for breakfast. I also have a pot of rice and lentils cooking down ๐Ÿฒ with lemon – pepper and garlic spice, I wanted a change from the split pea soup for lunch today. Yesterday dinner was tuna with spinach and whole wheat pasta. Haven’t had that in a while. ๐Ÿ  Always don’t like the carbs but the fatty fish with the healthy  omega-3 fats and vitamins and fiber from the spinach help balance that out. You need some fats to maximize fat-soluable vitamins. Also had a bit more kefir — it tastes like sour milk and is thick but it does help the stomach after all that pea soup I’ve been having the past few days.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 61 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 17th. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 1930. There was a dusting of snow in 1934.โ„

Caught two mice this morning. ๐Ÿญ It’s been kind of bad this year though not uncommon as the cold weather approaches. Probably my kitchen is a good place with all the dropping I’ve missed from all the cooking I do plus all those yummie smells ๐Ÿ˜‹ from bread baking and food on the stove top full of spices. Eventually I’ll get all the mice and things will get better. Usually happens around November. ๐Ÿšซ Like a girl I ran outside with the second mouse I had with only a shirt and my boxers on, well oops. Not thinking, it’s cold! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ  That mouse got away, but outside. I should have crushed him, but I was half awake and my face full of shaving cream when I heard him get stuck. Big and fat sucker too. ๐Ÿ Maybe pregnant, which is why I wanted him gone before her babes got breaking into my food and chewing my wires and holes in the walls of my apartment. People are shocked I still stay in my dumpy apartment that I’ve had since I was a researcher 16 years ago, but it’s cheap and I like the location. Plus I’m home so rarely. I’ll put up with the mice and rotting door and all the broken shit I have.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:42 pm with sun having an altitude of 39.7° from the due south horizon (-31.1° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:40 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (254°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (260°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:18 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 6:45 pm, which is one minute and 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:19 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 56 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 11 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over today.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 44 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 8th. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2022, we had rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 42 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1958.

I was over at the dungeon yesterday, looking at all the snacks ๐Ÿฌ in the break room realizing that there was nothing I could eat over there now that I’ve gotten into healthy eating. I’ll have to make sure to bring my own food over there in the future especially next year when I’ll probably spend a lot more time over there. Also yesterday I rode the elevator down one time for the first time since June as I had a meeting to go with a colleague but I did the stairs up and down like usual the rest of the day. Ridden back and forth to work so far three days this week for a total of 45 miles. ๐Ÿšฒ Today I plan to ride in but may take the bus ๐Ÿš home in the evening.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain after 2pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 59 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 22nd. North wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 1920.

The weekend isn’t looking so bad at this point. ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ But next week is still going to be quite cloudy and rainy, and much worse in West Virginia. ๐ŸŒง I definitely will be doing some riding this weekend. ๐Ÿ I might ride out to Indian Ladder Farms and get some apples. I was thinking about going up to the Albany Pine Bush Preserve and then checking Salvation Army and Farmer India’s Market but I think I’m good for now. I might leave next week for West Virginia if the weather is good or possibly consider another trip, but I’m not going to take off time and get burned by the weather again this year. It’s the second time that this has happened in the past month, and it’s not fair to take off time then cancel it to the other director, lest she wants to take off time.

Looking ahead to Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 57. โ˜€ North wind 9 to 13 mph. Typical average high for the weekend is 62 degrees. Maybe a bit cool with the breeze, but it’s October so I’ll take it. Where to go is the question? I don’t plan to camp this weekend as last weekend I did Rensselearville State Forest. Maybe somewhere closer to home. Not sure.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now the be Average Night will be Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ when the sun will be setting at 4:36 pm with dusk at 5:05 pm (Standard Time). Average high will be 50 degrees with a low of 32. We loose one hour and 41 minutes of daylight over the next month.

I Guess Columbus Day Weekend Isn’t a Complete Washout ๐ŸŒง ๐Ÿค›๐Ÿป โ›ต ๐Ÿ‚

Totally bummed out about this weekend, but maybe I shouldn’t be. It didn’t rain until quite late into the night and this morning the rain has slackened up quite a bit. Maybe it will be nice enough to go for a bike ride to Voorheesville or Five Rivers — and it might be pretty to check out the Pine Hollow Arboretum which amazingly enough I’ve never been there. Almost rain free-enough to make me wish I had headed out of town to get camping. Maybe tomorrow but it’s likely going to be cold and windy, and probably still damp. We’ll see come the morning, I got to start working on packing and thinking about West Virginia sooner rather then later.

Good morning! Happy Saturday on this rather Rainy Start to Columbus Day Weekend! Rain showers, at least a few drops of rain here and there and 65 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 63 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 10 am.

I slept in until 5:50 AM when my alarm went off โฐ got up and make oatmeal-banana pancakes to start off my morning. ๐Ÿ˜ต Lots of coffee โ˜• so I waited a while before heading out in case I had to piss up a storm, and ended up deciding bicycling was a safer option lest I needed to pee ๐Ÿšฝ or the sky opened up with rain. โ˜”

Today will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm. โ›ˆ Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Temperature falling to around 57 by 5pm. Southeast wind 7 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible. Yeah, even though it’s not raining right now, I’m glad I’m not camping in that kind of crap. That’s a lot of rain. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1963.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:44 pm with sun having an altitude of 42° from the due south horizon (-28.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:51 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (257°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (263°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:28 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 6:55 pm, which is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:29 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 56 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 11 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over today.

Tonight will have showers, mainly before 1am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 47 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 3rd. Northwest wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1964.

For tomorrow, Sunday, things may improve. โ›… A slight chance of showers before 8am, then a slight chance of showers after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Southwest wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. That wind will make it cool but maybe I should plan to do some biking and camping out of town. ๐Ÿ• I heard there is some pretty good color in the Catskills. And for Columbus Day, cool but mostly sunny, with a high near 59. South wind around 9 mph. That does seem like an improvement over earlier forecasts. ๐Ÿ˜€ My parents are out of town this weekend, so I won’t be visiting them this weekend, so I am kind of free to do whatever I want this weekend both days and I don’t have to rush home. I have enough clothes for the upcoming week for work, as it’s going to be cool and I wore t-shirt and shorts all last week, including the day I was off. ๐Ÿ‘– I will have to go to the laundromat later in the week though before I head down to West Virginia. Assuming that’s where I end up — if it looks truly cold and wet for the following week I could change my plans to be closer to home, but regardless I plan to camp for the full week. ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ

I am watching the forecast for both here in Delmar, Wellsboro Penna and Thomas WV, ๐ŸŒง and I’m not pleased with how much rain I’m seeing, though 7 days out it really is just a crap shoot. The rain numbers are quite meaningless at this point as so much could change. If it rains on my drive down to WV it’s not the end of the world, I don’t need to take a million different side trips. I’ll skip the Pine Creek Rail Trail ๐Ÿš‚ and the C-O Canal Trail ๐Ÿšฒ until later in the week or not at all, and mostly just drive down, and hunker down at camp. ๐Ÿš˜ Once I’m in West Virginia once camp’s set up the rain is less of an issue. Indeed, the 8-14 day outlook suggests especially in West Virginia in the mid-Atlantic states it might be a fairly dry week but cool. ๐Ÿ˜Ž I’ll take that as long as there isn’t snow. โ„๏ธ

I will be bringing my heater, and can hot tent if it’s really cold up in Canaan Heights but I want to have sunny days for hiking and bicycling, plus it makes the scenery better. โ™จ๏ธ โ›บ I hear they’re getting their first likely frost in the high country this weekend, so by next weekend it should still be close to peak color, without the crowds of Columbus Day Weekend. ๐Ÿ‘ช There is a reason I waited to later this year, plus it seems like autumn is occurring each year a bit later — and the High Country of West Virginia is more like the Hilltowns climate-wise then the mountains of New York due to the more southerly location.

I found my West Virginia maps including the Monongahela National Forest ๐Ÿ—บ along with the Pine Creek Rail Trail and several other Pennsylvania State Parks I may want to visit on the way down assuming it’s not raining. I am going to print up at work a few small scale maps of Canaan Heights and some other trails in the Otter Creek and Dolly Sods Wilderness at work, ๐Ÿ–จ assuming I can find a printer that still works in the office, lol. ๐Ÿคฃ No-ones going to care if I print up like four pages, assuming that the machine still works as nobody prints much anymore work-related. Then it’s just clothes and supplies to pack for camping. I will bring a fair amount of food with me, but only one cooler as it will be cool enough that most fruits and vegetables don’t need cooling, and I don’t eat nearly as much meat and dairy as I once did. ๐Ÿฅฉ ๐Ÿฅ› I’m not a vegetarian but healthier, whole foods that are low on saturated fats really don’t need as much refrigeration.

The past few days I’ve been getting a ton of blog traffic ๐Ÿ—บ ๐Ÿค– I think with people looking for places to camp and hike for the Columbus Day Weekend. One day I pulled in over $10 in ad revenue, and I’m in the low-$30s of what I’ve pulled in over the past week and a half of running ads. I think I will be close to $70 by the end of month, and while I won’t get paid until I rack up $100 in revenue, I think by December 1st I’ll probably be getting my first check ๐Ÿ’ฐ which could easily be above $130 by my own estimates, though it depends how much demand drops for my blog as the winter season approaches. โ˜ƒ Traffic usually drops fairly low in December and January. Maybe I need to do more maps relating to skiing and snowmobiling or winter camping locations. ๐Ÿ• But it will pick up again come April and May, having looked at my old web logs. It’s good because the $540 check to the web host goes out tomorrow for the next three years. Hopefully, within a year I’ll made enough from blog ads to be made whole, all while enjoying telling my story.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Daylight Savings Time Ends ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:46 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. On that day in 2022, we had sunny, warm and temperatures between 71 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 76 back in 1994.

Catskills

You can just sit there a-thinking on your velvet throne ๐Ÿ’บ

My bed certainly isn’t velvet but in the darkness of the morning feels like it. Some DONOVAN to start out the Tuesday morning it would seem, though not only are the evenings getting darker so are the mornings as autumn approaches in a little over a month. September 23rd at two AM starts autumn. Autumn happens ๐Ÿ‚early on a Saturday.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly cloudy and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 53 degrees. Not the brightest of the mornings, in part due to the clouds. That said with the sun rising now it’s getting brighter ๐Ÿ”† out.

Got bananas ๐ŸŒ at the store yesterday along with frozen fruit and sugar free maple ๐Ÿ syrup so I’m thinking it would be a good morning for pancakes ๐Ÿฅž. Yesterday was eggs and the day before cream of wheat with Greek yogurt and lemon ๐Ÿ‹. It’s good to keep breakfast interesting.

I forgot to put the red kidney beans on the stove ๐Ÿฒ before walking ๐Ÿšถ this morning but they can soak and they’ll cook quicker this evening. With the days growing shorter in the evening it’s not like I have that much time in the evening to ride or hike before it’s dark out.

Today will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 78 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 5th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 10am. North wind 6 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1916.

Going to ride to work again. ๐Ÿšฒ Fixed that missing bolt ๐Ÿ”ฉ on Blackie ๐Ÿšต rack, turned out all of the braze on bolts are standard M5 Allen bolts and I found a matching one from my old bike. It was nice, I didn’t have to go to the hardware store, got rid of annoying rattle and let me ride to the store and get a lot of groceries. I can’t believe I spent another $60 but I should be good for the week now. Really had that rack and basket loaded down heavy and took it easy over the bumps but I didn’t have any issues.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 59.2° from the due south horizon (-11.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:10 pm with the sun in the west (281°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (287°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:49 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 8:16 pm, which is one minute and 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the southwest (221°) at an altitude of 19° from the horizon, 240,454 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:55 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 73 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a north-northeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over yesterday.

Last night I went down to the Normans Kill Preserve briefly ๐Ÿž before going to Hannaford to go shopping. I was originally thinking of going to the hardware store and/or shopping on the way home from work on my bicycle, but then when I figured out I could fix my bike without visiting at the hardware store, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ง I figured I would just to go to Hannaford after spending some time at the preserve. There was a few blackberries left down at the preserve, but we are starting to get beyond that part of the year.

That was quite the grocery haul ๐Ÿ›’ I had riding in the back of Blackie on my way back from Hannaford. I had to use the bungee cord to keep the load tied down. I had a big bag of onions, sweet peppers, a pineapple, frozen fruit, peaches, beans, yogurt, cottage cheese, spinach, edamame and several other things I can’t remember all tied down. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿฅœ Made for a heavy ride, and I was a bit worried about how the basket would hold up over the bumps, but there was no problem.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 54 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 12th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 8pm. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became thunderstorm by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1988.

Not sure what the plans for this evening, ๐ŸŒ† but gets difficult as the evening are rather dark early, so I probably don’t have time for a ride to Voorheesville. I could do a ride out to Five Rivers if I had a quick dinner, ๐Ÿฆ but I also want to have time to cook up those light red kidney beans so later in the week they can be either a snack or a meal with maple syrup or maybe cooked with eggs. I also want to hard boil some eggs for a quick go to for protein ๐Ÿฅš in the morning or even for the dinner. Wednesday I’ll also ride to work, but come Thursday and Friday ๐ŸšŒ it looks like it will be back to busing it to work, as it will rain. But both days I expect to be able to the take express on in.

Today in 1971, twenty of the Camden 28 were arrested. They were a group of “Catholic left” anti-Vietnam War activists who in 1971 planned and executed a raid on a Camden, New Jersey draft board. ๐Ÿคœ The raid resulted in a high-profile criminal trial of the activists that was seen by many as a referendum on the Vietnam War and as an example of successful use of jury nullification.

Cool almost autumn like weekend ahead. ๐Ÿ Saturday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 74. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 64 at 10am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 57 at 11am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees. Saturday is looking less wet, I’ll have to see which day my parents want to do the clam bake. ๐Ÿฆช

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be the concluding day of calendar summer ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:54 pm with dusk at 7:21 pm. Days by then are much shorter, kiddos back in school ๐Ÿšธ . The air will have the pungently sweet smell of corn silage as they’ll be chopping soon. The boys of fall.

Zucchini spaghetti is pretty darn good! ๐Ÿ

How did I not know such a thing before today? I heard of spiralizers but never used one. I’m very happy with my decision to hop on my bike, ride and get a zucchini spiralizer at Walmart rather than go to Indian Ladder Farms for apples today. The store bought apples are fine – probably any of the ones Indian Ladder at this point has been stored in nitrogen for the past year and would quickly spoil. In two weekends I’ll likely bike out to Indian Ladder.

Good afternoon! Clouds and sun and 76 degrees at the Delmar. ๐ŸŒฅ Probably a thunderstorm will come through before this blog post is done. There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 67 degrees and getting muggier as the thunderstorm approaches. The muggy weather ends tomorrow around 1 am. ๐Ÿ˜“

Black is great for a quick run to the grocery store ๐Ÿ›’ like this morning when I ran to Wally World to get a spiralizer for the zucchini that I wanted to try making zucchini lasagna out of. ๐Ÿ With some of excess zucchini and tomatoes made an excellent lunch without all the carbohydrates to crash my blood sugar in a few hours. The spiralizer made excellent zucchini spaghetti, and used the food processor for the tomatoes plus some onions, jalapeños and Italian spices, a frying pan plus some parmesan up top. Good meal ๐Ÿด for lunch. I do want to try zucchini bread next, using whole wheat flour and oatmeal along with stevia, cinnamon and olive oil – also maybe some grapes or other fruit mixed in for flavor. ๐Ÿž

What can I say, Blackie ๐Ÿšต is such a slow dog ๐Ÿถ on the paved bike trails Erie Canal Trail but awesome on gravel and light mountain biking on horse and easy to moderate mountain bicycle trails. It gets blown by the road bicycles like your standing still on the paved bike trails, with a continuous pace and top gear. โš™ But then it’s so much fun on the gravel and even gated haul roads on the background where you’d shred road bike tires. Not so wonderful in deep mud or even in deeper sands like in parts of the Pine Bush but those crawl gears are awesome for crossing the rough terrain. Blackie on asphalt likes to go around 10 mph though on gently slopping terrain, it can easily do a constant 13-15 mph but road bikes blow by at 20-25 mph. It’s kind of the tractor on the interstate experience.

This afternoon will have isolated showers and thunderstorms. It’s summer. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 79 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 1st. Maximum dew point of 67 at 12pm. West wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1947.

Yesterday was a good day, checked off basically everything on my list besides the spiralizer which I got today. โ˜‘ Got a lot of groceries at the Stanton Farm Stand ๐Ÿ‘ though the Pennsylvania peaches they had where a bit disappointing. Their sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ was excellent along with their tomatoes. ๐Ÿ… No good clothes at Goodwill but not unexpected. Mountain biking in the Albany Pine Bush Preserve, ๐Ÿฆ‹was great though some of the trails were rougher than I expected and the deep sand wasn’t great in spots though that’s partly my fault for not airing the tires down more but I didn’t want pinch flats. ๐Ÿšฒ I did find a nice pair of shorts and long sleeve shirts at Salvation Army for $20 which fit my smaller size nicely ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘• and I mentioned it to Linda when I was visiting John and she gave me some of his old shirts which fit well too. Going to need to buy smaller jeans ๐Ÿ‘– and in the fall should keep an eye on Salvation Army for dress clothes ๐Ÿ‘” and maybe some new ties but I’ll probably end up buying much of that new at JC Penny. For me it’s not a money ๐Ÿ’ต thing at this point but I’d rather keep good clothes out of the landfill and support needy people. ๐Ÿš๏ธ Plus there is some unique stuff there, especially their ties.

Visiting John was nice though he was largely out of it due to sedatives for pain he’s on. ๐Ÿง“ Rode some of the Erie Canalway which was crowded and the weather hot and sticky ๐Ÿ˜ฐ and the constant blow by of road bikes ๐Ÿšฒ was kind of obnoxious. I prefer more solitude and less spandex as I ride my slow as shit mountain bike. Got most of the supplies and food I needed at Walmart, had dinner – zucchini and onions again, followed by yogurt and frozen fruit with lemonade ๐Ÿ‹ and retired to bed ๐Ÿ›.

I don’t think I’ll get to Indian Ladder today ๐Ÿ with rain storms around, and because I got a good ride doing a quick trip out of Walmart on Blackie. ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ But soon in a bit I’ll head out to my parents house for Sunday dinner and to do my wash then do a quick hike up Bennett Hill. ๐Ÿ” Then get home, and unpacked. And ready for the upcoming week.
