Good evening! Mostly clear and 56 degrees at Horseshoe Lake. ๐ŸŒƒ There is a west-southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 48 degrees. Final night here, my three nights here expires comes morning.

So the plan is to break camp early tomorrow โ›บ and then head down to Horseshoe Lake for a paddle. Already the flags ๐ŸŽŒ are down, hammock and gear is organized for a quick pack. At lunch time I’ll go to Tupper Lake for milk and ice โ„ and work using the village maybe upload some stuff to the blog. At five o’clock I’m going to head up to the Saranac Lake Wild Forest or St. Regis Canoe Area where I have cell service and work there Friday and then drive home Saturday I think. ๐Ÿšฃ๐Ÿ‘ฏ

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 52 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 1st. Maximum dew point of 51 at 12am. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 68 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1982.

Busy day at work, preparing a large memorandum report that ended up getting shelved ๐Ÿ“š for another project. The laptop battery held up fine and during lunch and later in the afternoon I plugged it into the truck to top it off.

Lows Ledge was pretty but clouds pushed in at the wrong time โ˜ – they came in slightly after I arrive and departed after I left casting dark shadows on the land but I got some nice pictures ๐Ÿ“ท at the end. Beautiful country up there. I’d love to paddle Hitchens Pond but with work and everything else I just don’t have the time. โŒš I’m getting to hang out in some beautiful country but work has been crazy. It’s a road trip yes, but not really a vacation. I’m working every day including for a while on the weekend.

While seeing the bear and cubs ๐Ÿป play in the tree was kind of cool, I wasn’t not happy seeing the bear so close to camp. He’s too comfortable with humans and I don’t want him breaking into my truck or tearing up camp. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ I thought about sending some bird shot in the woods away from him to send him packing but at the time my truck was parked out on the road soaking up sun for the solar and I didn’t have my shotgun right pm me. Hopefully he won’t be a problem tonight after tonight she’s somebody else’s problem.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 16% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west (280ยฐ) at an altitude of 17ยฐ from the horizon, some 231,151 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by December 17th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The moon will set in the west-northwest (296ยฐ) at 11:41 pm. The Buck ๐ŸฆŒ Moon is on Saturday, July 4. The darkest hour is at 1:01 am, followed by dawn at 4:39 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:16 am in the northeast (55ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 36 seconds. Sunrise is 20 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:00 am with sun in the east-northeast (63ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 29 minutes of darkness, an increase of 16 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 74 degrees at 5pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 53 at 8am. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 95 was set in 1898.

In four weeks on July 22 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (299ยฐ) at 8:33 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 12 minutes and 38 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 74 and 66 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 83 and 62 degrees. The record high of 102 degrees was set back in 1926.

June 9, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 68 degrees Mason Lake. ๐ŸŒŸ Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees.

Sitting down by the lake, listening to the frogs ๐Ÿธ, a screech owl and a loon. Drinking a beer ๐Ÿป looking up at stars โœจ. One firefly in the air. ๐Ÿ Also a bit of a noisy party with people hanging out at a campsite down the lake. โœจ Checking out the stars with the star gazing app on my phone.

After packing up and organizing my gear, I ended up working from my campsite all day. โ›บ I just moved Big Red a few feet to make sure it was parked in the sun to keep the laptop and battery bank charged. Packing things up helped get things a lot more organized – and this morning had more downtime then recent. Finally hung up the flags ๐ŸŽŒ and hammock and electric lights tonight. They do make camping kind of more fun.

It’s night three at this campsite so I have to take camp down in the morning. ๐ŸŒ… I I’m going to work down in Speculator – probably just using my phone and if necessary the cellular internet on the work laptop and in the afternoon will work down at the Speculator library until 5 pm. Strangely enough it wasn’t until this afternoon I hung up the flags ๐ŸŽŒ or the hammock but I’ve been so busy this week – I was tired ๐Ÿ˜ด after hiking Sunday and Monday I had to work late and by the time I had dinner and went fishing ๐ŸŽฃ it was dark and I had to call it a night ๐ŸŒƒ.

Come the close of business tomorrow ๐Ÿ’ผ it will have been a six night camping trip with five days of work and a weekend through in when I did some hiking. Left last Thursday at 6 am before work, I’ll be home before 8 pm Wednesday this week. Because five out of the seven days were work days and my office has been quite busy, I won’t say I did a lot of scenic viewing but the hike through the dirt logging trails of Perkins Clearing to the Speculator Pig Rock ๐Ÿฝ and Jessup River ๐Ÿ , the hike to Fawn Lake and Wilcox Vly were nice. ๐Ÿšถ As was fishing ๐ŸŽฃ down at Mason Lake after work and hiking the Speculator Nature Trail several times. Solar for the most part kept my work laptop ๐Ÿ’ป well charged.

But alas I’m running low on clothes ๐Ÿ‘– and food ๐Ÿ” so I need to head home tomorrow after work. The ice will be gone by tomorrow but I have little left to spoil. There is no reason this can’t repeat in two weeks should my office remain closed. ๐Ÿข That said I kind of expect to be riding the bus ๐Ÿš to work downtown next week even though nothing formal has been announced yet. Autumn though maybe the pandemic will be back and I can hunt before work. Plus a lack of sun later in the week poses a problem for keeping the meccessary electrons flowing.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 54 degrees at 5am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 8th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 10pm. Light east wind. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1975.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 79% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:42 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:17 am in the east-northeast (57ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 31 seconds. Sunrise is 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4pm. โšก Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 74 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 66 at 5pm. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2008.

My goal is to take down camp quite early tomorrow and be on the road to Speculator ๐Ÿš™ which is only a ten minute drive away. Then get into the meat ๐Ÿ– of the day, get client issues addressed and maybe if there is a little downtime before 11 am hop in the Speculator Beach or hike at the nature trail. I’m hoping I won’t have to work late like on Monday. Then I’m pretty sure I’ll drive home. Not thinking it’s going to be that cloudy โ›… all day and while there may be some severe thunderstorm โšก in the afternoon I feel relatively safe working inside the truck. I’ll shut off the inverter and unplug the laptop if there is severe lightning.

Honesty, working up in the Adirondacks has been a lot more productive than working at home ๐Ÿก or in the office ๐Ÿข. For one, I don’t use my work laptop for any personal business including checking the weather or news ๐Ÿ“ฐ and certainly not my blog. If I was in the office on the wired or Wi-Fi internet, especially in my personal laptop I’d be checking social media multiple times a day, reading the news and probably streaming a YouTube video in the background. ๐Ÿ“น I also feel like while I’m working remotely, especially in the Adirondacks camping, I have to be super responsive to client texts, calls and emails especially during work hours. ๐Ÿ“Ÿ While I try to be serious at work, remote work from the Adirondacks I’m twice as serious about doing my job to the best of my ability. I don’t want to make it seem like I’m on vacation. ๐ŸŠ

In four weeks on July 7 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:40 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 3 minutes later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had humid, mostly sunny and temperatures between 81 and 64 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1988.

Looking ahead, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 2 weeks, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 21 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 21 weeks.

June 8, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 61 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. โ˜ A lot of high clouds. There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 42 degrees.

The past two nights I’ve been keeping it simple with no flags or electric lights. ๐Ÿ’ก Just a small fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ tonight and none last night. It doesn’t get dark until late this time of year and the problem is that if I stay up late and wake up around dawn I’m not getting enough sleep. ๐Ÿ˜ด I was doing so well before the pandemic started at getting to bed early – especially with my earlier work hours ๐Ÿ•’ but I kind of fell of a clift when work at home started and I didn’t have to factor in commute time and could eat breakfast ๐Ÿณ while working.

It was a busy day with work once things got fully underway around 10. I ended up driving down to Speculator today, to use the Speculator Library Wi-Fi. ๐Ÿ“™ I was having trouble uploading data into the computer database so I needed Wi-Fi. That was fine as I was busy today at work and then Wi-Fi is so much faster and more reliable than the cellular service. ๐Ÿ“ถ For a while mid afternoon it felt like I was a short order cook and ended up working into the evening. Did a little bit of fishing down a Mason Lake ๐ŸŽฃ which was so buggy. I should have brought bug spray down to the lake because I’m sure the fish were biting but I had some burgers ๐Ÿ” made from the very over priced grounded hamburger mest I bought down at Charlie John’s. Beef ๐Ÿ„ is pricey with the pandemic closing the slaughter houses even though farmers struggle to sell their cows.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 20th. West wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1977.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 87% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:36 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:42 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:18 am in the east-northeast (57ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 31 seconds. Sunrise is 14 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 39 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 77 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 10th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 6pm. West wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1933.

While technically I can stay at this campsite one more night ๐ŸŒƒ, I think I will take down camp by mid morning and head into town. I might camp somewhere closer to Speculator tomorrow night or I might drive home. It depends how late I have to work. Or maybe I’ll stay here one more night. Wednesday looks stormy by afternoon which I could work down at the Speculator library but a bad thunderstorm could make it hard to work with pounding rain โ˜” on the roof of the truck.

In four weeks on July 6 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:41 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 3 minutes and 59 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 92 and 73 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1886.

As of tomorrow I will have been up in the Adirondacks for six days, working four of them. ๐Ÿ’ผ It’s not been days at the beach, honestly it’s been a lot of hours on the phone talking to clients, ๐Ÿ“ž writing emails ๐Ÿ“ง and memos ๐Ÿ“. It’s also been a lot of hours at the library parking lot using the Wi-Fi. I will have worked a total of seven work days between the two trips since Memorial Day Weekend. Kind of like a vacation week without actually taking time off work so far I’ve clocked in 44 hours working up north – over a work week. But with work from vacation land.

Looking ahead, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 2 weeks.

 Clearing At Stewart Landing

March 8, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Mild evening ๐ŸŒƒ, enjoyed my evening walk. ๐Ÿšถ I ended up walking quite a few miles today, visiting a number of preserves and it was a nice day. Always try to spend a lot of time looking at the trees, observing birds ๐Ÿฆ and wildlife, trying to go through life not too blind to the world around me. Spent a lot of time in the woods this weekend for sure. Even if I don’t travel far there is a lot of nature locally.

Driving ๐Ÿš˜ back through Berne got me thinking how much the hill towns are not unlike small rural towns everywhere. ๐Ÿฎ Looking at Sauk County Wisconsin over the past week on the YouTube, and thinking back to my trips to West Virginia and Pennsylvania got me thinking how many nice small towns outside of New York I could ultimately settle down in and have a lot more freedom ๐Ÿ†“ than in New York State. Maybe the pasture isn’t greener everywhere but I see the plastic bag ban and these massive but low output solar farms as a sign of what’s to come and it’s not good. The same with the wilderness activists and anti frackers locking ๐Ÿ”’ all our land. To say nothing of more and more suburban track housing and apartment complexes going up everywhere. I miss the small town life I grew up in but I can’t see buying property in New York at this point. Once I don’t have family in New York, I’m towing everything I can out of the state for greener pastures.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 34 degrees at 5am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 6th. Going to be cool at night but it’s only the second week of March. At least my heat is off. โ™จ South wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -14 occurred back in 1943.

Tonight will have the Worm Full ๐Ÿ€ผ/strong>๓— Moon. At 10 PM, the moon was in the east-southeast (119ยฐ) at an altitude of 44ยฐ from the horizon, some 227,258 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€It’s a pretty big moon with a lot of moonlight. Didn’t need the brights on much driving home from the parents house. At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 28th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The darkest hour is at 12:07 am, followed by dawn at 6:51 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:20 am in the east (96ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 42 seconds earlier than today. ๐ŸŒ„ Still dark morning ahead. The golden hour ends at 7:57 am with sun in the east-southeast (102ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 22 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. 27 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 10th. Outstanding. South wind 6 to 9 mph. But red flag ๐Ÿšฉ conditions so tomorrow is a day you shouldn’t be burning stuff you shouldn’t be ๐Ÿ”ฅ but my neighbors was having a nice fire out back. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2016. 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

In four weeks on April 5 the sun will be setting in the west (279ยฐ) at 7:26 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 32 minutes and 25 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies, rain showers and chilly temperatures between 42 and 25 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 54 and 33 degrees. Yes, you can still have winter in April. The record high of 82 degrees was set back in 1928.

Looking ahead, Ides of March โœ is in 1 week, Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• is a month away, Palm Sunday ๐ŸŒด is in 4 weeks, Easter ๐Ÿฐ is in 5 weeks, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 9 weeks, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 10 weeks, Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 13 weeks and Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 14 weeks.

Open Area

January 29, 2020 Night

Good evening! Clear and 20 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 8. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at Friday around 11 am. 🌡๏ธ

It was pretty bitterly cold โ„ after going out with some of my colleagues after work and having some drinks and wings 🍻 and then waiting for the bus to go home. 🚍 The 49 cent wings – ten for $4.90 are a great deal 🍗 and are really good tasting at Public House 42. Plus my colleagues picked up the tab for my birthday 🎂 which was really nice of them to do. I offered to pay but they were really nice. I don’t go out much but it was nice especially at the new Pinto and Hobbs where it was pretty quiet. I hate drinking beer where the crowds and noise are so loud you can’t hear a person five feet away. Even Public House 42 was pretty quiet, they were playing Peter Paul and Mary for a walk.

Tonight will be clear 🌃, with a low of 6 degrees at 4am. Nine degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -1 at 5am; North wind 3 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 1 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1965.

There was at least one if not two homeless people on the street last night at the bus stop. 🚏Seemed like an awful cold night to be on the street. I’ve spent a few single digit nights in the wilderness in the single digits but that’s with warm clothes, a rip roaring fire 🔥 and my propane heater in a hot tent 🎪. The homeless action network was giving out blankets and tarps to the people and probably asking them if they wanted to go to the shelter. One was asking if anybody had keys 🔑 or a knife🔪 to open 🔓 the bag that they were blanket they got came in. I said no because I didn’t know if my key would be sharp enough and I didn’t want to have it stolen and not be able to get in my own house. 🏡 The guy flagged down the homeless van and got in any they helped him open it.

Just reminds me how privileged I am even if it seems like I have very little money 💵 in my bank account at the end of the month. My rent check was withdrawn yesterday. That’s good, I hopefully won’t get evicted for at least another month. 🏡 Done so much damage to my landlords building 🏢 although not all of it is my fault – it’s had moisture problems since I moved in and things were old and thread bare ready to wear through. Plus my muddy boots and gear didn’t help. That said, over the past 12 1/2 years I’ve paid like $80k in rent, always on time and only called the landlord over a handful of times. 💰The rent check cleared while I was drinking to remind me how poor I truly am.💸 At least it was my birthday.

The Snow โ„ Moon is on Sunday, February 9. The darkest hour is at 12:09 am, followed by dawn at 6:44 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:14 am in the east-southeast (114ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Sunrise is 57 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:56 am with sun in the east-southeast (121ยฐ). Tonight will have 14 hours and 7 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 16 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 32 degrees at 3pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around January 31st. Light and variable wind. With the sun it will feel even warmer. Next week might be closer to 50 on Monday. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 28 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 2013. 11 inches of snow fell back in 1966.โ„

Tooth cleaning appointment in the morning. 🦷 I should have done a better job at flossing over the past six months but I’ve been busy and I’m sure I’ll get yelled out gently by my dental hygienist. He’s actually a good guy and very friendly and just tries to nudge me to better dental health. Figuring I didn’t take care of my teeth for a long time it’s good I’m at least getting regular cleanings now.

In four weeks on February 26 the sun will be setting in the west (259ยฐ) at 5:40 pm,🌄 which is 36 minutes and 19 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 24 and 15 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 38 and 20 degrees. The record high of 63 degrees was set back in 1976.

After I got home I researched the Rensselaer Biotech facility that is supposed to be one of those mechanical biological treatment facilities 🚮that shreds mixed garbage and supposedly breaks it down into compostable materials and recoverable metals. I think the biggest concern is it will process mixed waste rather than source separated organics. I’d rather see much higher prices on mixed waste and that sent to landfills with a priority on source separated organics recovery and dual stream recycling. โ™ป Having more bins is a pain but it may be necessary for clean waste recovery.

Looking ahead, February Save the Pine Dinner 🦋 is in 3 weeks, Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ is in 5 weeks, April Fools Day 🤡 is in 9 weeks, Pink Moon 🌕 is in 10 weeks, Tax Day 💰 is in 11 weeks, Earth Day 🌎 is in 12 weeks, Latest Sunset 🌆 is in 21 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 👴🏻 is in 51 weeks.

Icles

December 10, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ! It was such a dark morning I had trouble getting out of bed so I took the local to work, which I had to run for because it was running early ๐Ÿƒ and I was running late as one of my contacts ๐Ÿ‘€ was irritating me. ๐Ÿš Darn auto refill isn’t working on my card ๐Ÿ’ณ so I ended up paying $2 in cash for the bus ride downtown. I’ll take care of that when I get to the office, maybe putting a bunch on the card so I won’t have to refill right away. Two weeks to Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ….

Dark and rainy with fog, around 41 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ Kind of what you call a generic December not nice day. There is a south breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Rain made me feel a bit stiff when I first got up. There are 8 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at around 10 pm. Warm weather and the dampness.

First time I’ve taken the local downtown in a while. ๐Ÿš I noticed that they’re doing more remidation of the old dry cleaner again. PERC is pretty nasty stuff. ๐Ÿ‘ตI am glad they are banning 1,4-dioxane in common cleaning products — it’s another nasty chemical. While it’s true most of the 1,4-dioxane in the drinking water is decades old from manufacturing chlorinated solvents, even trace amounts are a problem with it’s affinity for water. ๐Ÿ‘” That said, I think my current dry cleaner uses PERC, although these days PERC is much more heavily regulated and spills are less common then in years ago. Delaware Avenue is good and clear now that the snow emergency came and went and the rain has melted back the snow banks. ๐Ÿ’งI prefer the express just because that gets me to work a bit earlier plus it’s a nicer ride in on the expressway.๐Ÿ”

Today will have a chance of rain. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 47 degrees at 1pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 19th. South wind 8 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1966. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

The sun will set at 4:22 pm with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is 2 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 48 seconds over yesterday.

Over to John Wolcott house ๐Ÿ” after work. I don’t plan to go over again this month between the holidays, my planned end of the year road trip and other things to do including Save the Pine Bush ๐ŸŒฒevents. Plus I want to save some time to work on electronics projects. ๐Ÿ”ฌ He really doesn’t have that many more boxes to go through, or so I tell myself. ๐Ÿ—ƒ

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow before 7pm, then a slight chance of snow. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 26 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 4th. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 13 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1988.

Today in 1978, Prime Minister of Israel Menachem Begin and President of Egypt Anwar Sadat are jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their work ending the Arab-Isreali conflictโœŒ. Also, in 1817 Mississippi becomes the 20th U.S. state, and the only one that still has the rebel flag on it’s state flag. ๐Ÿด๓ ต๓ ณ๓ ญ๓ ณ๓ ฟ I’ve never given Mississippi much of a thought ๐Ÿ’ญ but I bet it’s hot there in the summer. I bet it’s weird and southern like Virginia and not as Appalachian as Wild and Wonderful West Virignia.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ™ Saturday, rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 36 degrees.

This weekend my parents are having a holiday tree decorating party, ๐ŸŽ„ and on Sunday is the Save the Pine Bush benefit event for fighting the apartment complex that want to building in the Pine Bush. ๐Ÿ—๏ธ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฒ I also want to work on some electronics projects over the weekend.

I need to refill my phone. ๐Ÿ“ฒ The past few years I’ve been doing the StraightTalk 1-year plan, that costs like $540 a year (including the $50 in taxes) to do. I am happy with the service, and are fine with laying out the money, as then I don’t have to worry about monthly payments or refills. Then my phone will have service until Christmas Evening 2020, which is the next time it will expire. I could get a cheaper plan, but I find that the 25 gigabyte of data is necessary as I don’t have internet at home — I don’t use the full 25 gigabytes but when your throttled to 2G it is so slow.๐Ÿข

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until New Years Eve ๐ŸŽ† when the sun will be setting at 4:31 pm with dusk at 5:03 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain and temperatures between 41 and 29 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 32 degrees. We hit a record high of 61 back in 1895.

December 9, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Earliest Sunset of the Year โŒ›๏ธ! The mornings now are getting progressively darker but after today we will start adding a few seconds then in a few weeks a minute each day to our evening. But tonight is expected to be pretty dark with the rain coming. ๐Ÿ’ฆ

I had a really nice breakfast ๐Ÿณ with a quiche made of eggs, hash, cheese and broccoli. I have to say it was good. Still have more in the fridge for dinner. ๐Ÿฅถ Chilled off quickly before refrigeration in the snow bank outside.โ™จ This way I didn’t waste electricity. Honestly, people should use the cold weather more often to keep food cold and frozen — but in our modern world — folks are lazy and use their refrigerators in their heated homes.๐Ÿ”Œ

Only a little over a week more on the doxycline. ๐Ÿ’Š I wouldn’t mind it so much but sometimes taking the pill in the morning can make me a bit sick on an empty stomach like the doctor suggests. But I think most of the signs of the Lyme are gone, ๐Ÿœ although I did feel a bit stiff in the knees yesterday after skiing.

Cloudy, somewhat damp and 36 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ˜ I hope you have your umbrella with you, you’ll need it later. โ˜” There is a south breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 12 inches of snow on the ground but it’s melting fast with the warm dampness in the air. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 10 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Today will rain, mainly after 10am. Patchy fog between 10am and 2pm. ๐ŸŒง High of 43 degrees at 4pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 26th. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Not a big rain storm ๐Ÿ’ฆbut it will contribute to a burn down of the snow especially with even warmer weather tomorrow. Kind of a gray misty December day that is common this time of year. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1966. 7.3 inches of snow fell back in 2009.โ„

The sun will set at 4:21 pm with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is one second earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 55 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain, mainly before 3am. ๐ŸŒง Low of 43 degrees at 6pm, pushing fifty by day break. 21 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 4th. That should save on the heat for a change. South wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of -4 occurred back in 1902.

I fixed the glitch in the mobile version of the blog, ๐Ÿ“ฑ now I think it’s working pretty good. All it took was a change of one or two lines on the blogs code to make it perfect.

Today in 1958, the John Birch Society is founded. Businessman and founder Robert W. Welch Jr. (1899โ€“1985) developed an organizational infrastructure in 1958 of chapters nationwide. ๐Ÿ˜ After an early rise in membership and influence, efforts by those such as conservative William F. Buckley Jr. and National Review led the JBS to be identified as a fringe element of the conservative movement, mostly in fear of the radicalization of the American right.

Not a particularly nice weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ™ Saturday, a chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 36 degrees.

Next Monday is Tea Party Day ๐Ÿ. The day that only is kind of vaguely referenced in that Don’t Tread on Me Flag ๐Ÿšฉ that I have, that I believe basically means I should be allowed to burn whatever noxious garbage I want, own lots of guns, hunt, fish, junk cars and machinery and own and slaughter whatever stinky farm animals I want on my land. ๐Ÿฎ Basically, a redneck. But actually that foggy ๐ŸŒ winter day when they dumped tea ๐Ÿต from West Indies into the Boston harbor โš“ where they still enjoy the dirty water but probably not from the tea which had long rotted away. At least it was source seperated organic waste ๐Ÿฝ, something you can’t say about the pollutants dumped into the ocean today. ๐ŸŒŠ Probably a lot like today with fewer sewer overflows.

Looking ahead for our nation’s pork ๐Ÿ– producers, not talking about the Albany, there are 3 weeks until Bacon Day ๐Ÿฅ“ when the sun will be setting at 4:30 pm with dusk at 5:02 pm. I can smell the fermented grain and pig ๐Ÿฝ shit. On that day in 2018, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 33 and 23 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 32 degrees. We hit a record high of 53 back in 1984.

Eleven degrees doesn't seem that bad
