June 8, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 61 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. โ˜ A lot of high clouds. There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 42 degrees.

The past two nights I’ve been keeping it simple with no flags or electric lights. ๐Ÿ’ก Just a small fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ tonight and none last night. It doesn’t get dark until late this time of year and the problem is that if I stay up late and wake up around dawn I’m not getting enough sleep. ๐Ÿ˜ด I was doing so well before the pandemic started at getting to bed early – especially with my earlier work hours ๐Ÿ•’ but I kind of fell of a clift when work at home started and I didn’t have to factor in commute time and could eat breakfast ๐Ÿณ while working.

It was a busy day with work once things got fully underway around 10. I ended up driving down to Speculator today, to use the Speculator Library Wi-Fi. ๐Ÿ“™ I was having trouble uploading data into the computer database so I needed Wi-Fi. That was fine as I was busy today at work and then Wi-Fi is so much faster and more reliable than the cellular service. ๐Ÿ“ถ For a while mid afternoon it felt like I was a short order cook and ended up working into the evening. Did a little bit of fishing down a Mason Lake ๐ŸŽฃ which was so buggy. I should have brought bug spray down to the lake because I’m sure the fish were biting but I had some burgers ๐Ÿ” made from the very over priced grounded hamburger mest I bought down at Charlie John’s. Beef ๐Ÿ„ is pricey with the pandemic closing the slaughter houses even though farmers struggle to sell their cows.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 20th. West wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1977.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 87% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:36 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 4:42 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:18 am in the east-northeast (57ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 31 seconds. Sunrise is 14 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:01 am with sun in the east-northeast (64ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 39 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 77 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 10th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 6pm. West wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1933.

While technically I can stay at this campsite one more night ๐ŸŒƒ, I think I will take down camp by mid morning and head into town. I might camp somewhere closer to Speculator tomorrow night or I might drive home. It depends how late I have to work. Or maybe I’ll stay here one more night. Wednesday looks stormy by afternoon which I could work down at the Speculator library but a bad thunderstorm could make it hard to work with pounding rain โ˜” on the roof of the truck.

In four weeks on July 6 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:41 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 3 minutes and 59 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 92 and 73 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1886.

As of tomorrow I will have been up in the Adirondacks for six days, working four of them. ๐Ÿ’ผ It’s not been days at the beach, honestly it’s been a lot of hours on the phone talking to clients, ๐Ÿ“ž writing emails ๐Ÿ“ง and memos ๐Ÿ“. It’s also been a lot of hours at the library parking lot using the Wi-Fi. I will have worked a total of seven work days between the two trips since Memorial Day Weekend. Kind of like a vacation week without actually taking time off work so far I’ve clocked in 44 hours working up north – over a work week. But with work from vacation land.

Looking ahead, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 2 weeks.

 Clearing At Stewart Landing

May 30, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 60 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 53 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

I thought today was a pleasant day. ๐Ÿ’ญ Warm but not too hot. While I stuck around home for a while this morning, the bird hike I took at Schodack Island was quite productive and full of wildlife. ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿฐ ๐Ÿ Not too many crowds on the hiking trail ๐Ÿ‘ช, I think people’s initial desire to get outdoors and be occupied with the little ones is kind of wearing off and most of that’s now happening on weekdays. โ˜ Clouds pushed in at the end of the day.

Rained a bit while I was driving home but I stocked up on $50 worth of Aldi’s groceries. ๐Ÿ I love ๐Ÿ˜ how I can shop for a weeks worth of groceries and be out of the store in less than ten minutes. โฐThere are only four aisles so it’s quick in and out. One other customer when I was there. They’ve taken the arrows down from the aisles โžก as nobody pays attention to them and with the way the store is laid out the arrows don’t work compared to a big box store. I don’t even bother to bring my shopping bags inside anymore, I just bag things in my truck. Keeps them cleaner and more Coronavirus free that way. ๐Ÿ‘พ

I made chilli burgers ๐Ÿ” for lunch and they were good but I’ve sure been a bit gassy ๐Ÿ˜ฒ all afternoon. Chilli with beans on a burger might not be good combo for my stomach. I thought I was going to have to dig a cat hole ๐Ÿ’ฉ a few times when I was out hiking.

I am happy with the haircut โœ‚ I gave myself. Definitely a lot shorter and nicer. I might still want to work on the back. ๐Ÿ’ˆ I had the clippers so I might as well use them. Eventually I go back to the barber but I think I’ll just use the trimmers for now until things are normal enough that masks and specialty are no longer required. ๐Ÿ’‡

Tonight will have isolated showers before midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 23rd. Northwest wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1961.

Tonight will have a First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon with 63% illuminated. At 11 PM, the moon was in the west-southwest (239ยฐ) at an altitude of 38ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,878 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by November 18th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Strawberry ๐Ÿ“ Moon is on Friday, June 5. The darkest hour is at 12:54 am, followed by dawn at 4:48 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:22 am in the east-northeast (59ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 23 seconds. Sunrise is 32 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:04 am with sun in the east-northeast (66ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 55 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 21 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 64 degrees at 4pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 30th. Northwest wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 2013.

Getting up early tomorrow for hiking in the Albany Pine Bush Preserve ๐ŸŒฒ to do some birding and socially distant citizens conservation study. The more time you spend in the woods the more you. ๐Ÿธ I’m really finding myself getting lost and loosing track of time when I spend afternoons studying the woods. It will be great fun with my colleagues.

Watching next weekends forecast โ˜€ but it looks sunny and hot for Thursday through Sunday. My office ๐Ÿข will probably still be remote work only so I could work from my phone or the Speculator library if I wanted to take another long weekend of social distancing up north. I could use some more beach time at the Speculator Beach ๐ŸŠ and maybe come the weekend do some hiking, maybe somewhere different up that way.

In four weeks on June 27 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:37 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 12 minutes and 5 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had hot, mostly sunny, shallow fog and temperatures between 87 and 63 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 81 and 60 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1941.

While I know I probably shouldn’t be, ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฅI’ve been watching the unrest unfold in Albany on the Twitter. I heard a few pops earlier in the evening and a police siren but I doubt it’s related. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ Probably just a fender bender locally ๐Ÿš™ on the road. Kind of scary when you watch it all on the Twitter. I hope my absentee ballot applications โŒ isn’t destroyed or lost in the chaos in the south end. I could always vote on the machine but voting at home is a lot more convenient, especially as I suspect there will be much fewer poll workers and polling places โœ‰ during the pandemic.

After all those people looking down at the apparently crowded beaches on the long angle lens and then those dismissing the lock ๐Ÿ”’ down protests as passing the virus around, ๐Ÿ‘พ you have to wonder about these mass rallies over policing across the country. I just don’t like double standards or the bias against conservatives ๐ŸŠ .

Of course, no single event is likely to make a mass spike in cases of Coronavirus ๐Ÿ‘พas single events are burried by statistical noiseโ™’ but together they could set back progress at slowing the spread. You can say no mass gatherings of more than 10 people โœŠ but it’s kind of hard to break up a protest that is criticizing public policy and clearly is first amendment guaranteed. ๐Ÿ“ƒ So much for reopening the economy so quickly should there be an uptick in cases.

I guess there isn’t much I can do about it. ๐Ÿ’ญ My priority has to be to save money, ๐Ÿ’ต enjoy life, protect myself from the government ๐Ÿซ and work for a better tomorrow and eventually my off-grid property. ๐Ÿก I can’t save Albany or change the world ๐ŸŒ but I can make a better life for myself. What’s happening is kind of sad but there is only so much I can do about it.

Looking ahead, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 3 weeks.

 Catskills In The Distance

May 23, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 63 degrees at Mason Lake. There is a southeast breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. Really nice evening now that the black flies have retired for the night ๐Ÿœ. Very starry night.

Laying back in the hammock – I treated it with Permethrin today – but still the black flies were too bad to lay outside. I was surprised the Permethrin stained the fabric a bit but I don’t care as Its an inexpensive hammock and the compound hasn’t done any physical damage to it. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Today was kind of a hot day as Memorial Day Weekend often is. ๐ŸŽช The screen tent made the black flies quite bare able but when you went outside especially in the evening before dusk they were pretty unbareable. I was glad when they were gone for the evening.

Did some reading ๐Ÿ“–, listening ๐Ÿ‘‚ to podcasts and scrolling through social media today. ๐Ÿ’ป Kind of a lazy day, in the afternoon I paddled around Mason Lake for a few hours before coming back, cracking open a beer ๐Ÿป and cooking up burgers. ๐Ÿ” It was nice not to be quite as much as normal for struggling against the black fly during this most buggy of weekends.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 42 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 30th. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1963.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon. The Strawberry ๐Ÿ“ Moon is on Friday, June 5. The darkest hour is at 12:55 am, followed by dawn at 4:52 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:26 am in the east-northeast (60ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 23 seconds. Sunrise is 48 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:08 am with sun in the east-northeast (67ยฐ). And then the black flies return. Tonight will have 8 hours and 59 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 45 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 68 degrees at 4pm. Much cooler than today. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 12th. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1964.

Tomorrow should be quite nice. I think I’ll run to Speculator and do some paddling on the Sacandaga River. ๐Ÿšฃ That parking lot is bright and sunny โ˜€ and I want to top off my work laptop so I’m prepared for work from Speculator on Monday. Yeah, it’s not a holiday for me.

I am undecided if I will head home after work on Monday. ๐Ÿก I am thinking if I can get that campsite I wanted for the holiday weekend I would have good cellphone, laptop and solar power – and because it’s a new campsite a few miles away from the site I’m at the 3 night stay limit resets. High on the hill it might be a lot cooler than here and if I got ice I probably could have enough supplies to make it through midweek. Maybe it’s just a crazy ๐Ÿ˜œ idea. I’ll decide on Monday – who knows if the site will be available or if the weather pattern remains.

Next week the propane tree ๐ŸŽ„ I ordered also with my birthday money will arrive. I avoided getting one for the longest time as the reviews are bad and they can be unstable when the tanks are low but with the screen tent I wanted to be able to bring the lantern ๐Ÿฎ in there or use the lantern in places lacking two trees to hang a rope or bungee cords. While I’ve never placed a lantern on a nail on trees before – as I know how much damage that causes to trees – it can difficult to hang lanterns in some places – and they’re more efficient and reliable than electric lights with my relatively small but growing battery ๐Ÿ”‹ bank in the truck.

The other thing I’d like to have is a fan to help cool off in the tent. ๐Ÿ’จ What to use is the question. Do I build a 12 volt โšก extension cord for my existing fan or use some kind of 120 volt AC fan? Or some kind of rechargeable fan or one I could use off of the battery bank or USB charger? Definitely a lot of options although I’d prefer to spend no money accumulating more stuff.

In four weeks on June 20 the sun will be setting in the m orthwest (304ยฐ) at 8:42 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 18 minutes later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had humid temperatures, mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 79 and 66 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 79 and 58 degrees. I think I actually was camping up here that weekend last year. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1953.

Looking ahead, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 4 weeks and Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is a month away.

Spookey Open Area of the Swamp

July 12, 2019 Morning

Good morning folks! Y’all know what day today is. Next Friday is when I leave for Summer vacation after work, assuming the weather is decent and I’m ready to go. ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ. Eight nights in the woods, where I make my own rules, have fires and relax. I’d say it’s cloudy, humid and 71 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Going to warmer as the day progresses. There is a west breeze at 5 mph ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 68 degrees. Perfect weather for the muggers. The skies will clear around 11 am.

Walked down to the express bus ๐Ÿš and the air conditioning sure feels nice. โ„ Not warm enough to turn the fan on in my bedroom but definitely feels a tad bit muggy. ๐Ÿšฆ Hitting all the traffic lights heading downtown today. Traffic also was a bit backed up going through the Empire Plaza, but I’m not in that much of a rush to get to work.

I had lots of black percolator coffee this morning, โ˜• cold because it’s been so warm. It was very strong, and it woke me up right away. I also made waffles up. Of course all that coffee cleared me out well, ๐Ÿšฝ which is probably good for gut health or something like that. I heard that they have fresh local sweet corn, ๐ŸŒฝ and despite the advice from the Internet Gut Doctorโ„ข always advertising, I am looking forward to having some this weekend.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 82 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Figures. Maximum dew point of 68 at 9am. Slight drop in the humidity as the day progresses, but still pretty warm come the afternoon.West wind 5 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1935.

The sun will set at 8:33 pm with dusk around 9:06 pm, which is 32 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 64 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 19 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 63 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 6pm. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1939.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 88 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6pm. West wind around 7 mph. Hot and humid, should be nice out in old Schoharie County. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1894.

The plan is to get a fairly early start tomorrow, head out on NY 990V through the Northern Catskills, pack a lunch, ๐Ÿ›ฃ hike around Mine Kill Falls, then go for a swim for the bulk of the day at Mine Kill Park. Camp overnight somewhere at Burnt-Rossman, then do some fishing and hiking on Sunday, which should be nicer of the two days, at least weather wise. Should be downright pleasant by afternoon, maybe a bit chilly with the breeze and the rapidly dropping humidity. I heard sweet corn is now being sold locally, so I may be buy some and have it with burgers ๐Ÿ” up at camp.

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny ๐Ÿ˜Ž, with a high near 82. West wind 7 to 15 mph. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6am. Less humid by mid afternoon. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees. Going to be a real nice day, but as I was noting earlier, in the somewhat cooler weather of the Northern Catskills with that breeze, it might be cool swimming.

Tonight I’ll install the replacement burner in the camp stove. ๐Ÿ”ฅ I expect it will work well. For my vacation I’m going to pick up an inexpensive table cloth probably at the dollar store so I don’t have to look at the scratched and patched up camp table and it looks cleaner. I figure it the cheap table cloth doesn’t last it can be burnt and I can get another.

Vacation will be upon my before I know it, โ›บ so I should continue to get ready. That said I don’t expect that I have to do a lot, but if I want to get that camping permit, today is the day to do it. I should see if I can just find the old permit from seven years ago, and have the PA DCNR update it. ๐Ÿ—’ If not, I might just camp more in New York or Allegheny National Forest but I’d like to spend some time in Pennsyltucky.

On this day in 1967, the Newark Riots begin with over six days of rioting, looting, and destruction leaving 26 dead. ๐Ÿ˜ก Fortunately we aren’t worrying about that anymore, everybody’s just talking about immigration. I guess I should be more concerned, but that doesn’t really apply that much to me.

As previously noted, next Friday is Summer Vacation ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ when the sun will be setting at 8:28 pm with dusk at 9:01 pm. On that day in 2018, we had sunny skies, patches of fog and temperatures between 83 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 83 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1904.

Feet Up

May 22, 2019 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Two weeks to 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ. Wow, that’s coming quickly. The legislative session is scheduled to end in four weeks. Sunny and 53 degrees at the bus stop near Valero. ๐ŸŒž There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 72 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 23rd. North wind 6 to 8 mph. Seasonable weather for a change. A year ago, we had light rain for most of the day. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1911.

Heading in early this morning, as I have that nine o’clock class at work โŒš. I also have sexual harassment training tomorrow. At least I feel like I’m start to get caught up at work and hopefully things will go smoothly today. ๐Ÿ“

The sun will set at 8:18 pm with dusk around 8:51 pm, which is 57 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 64 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 51 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 45 seconds over yesterday. Less than a month more of talking about longer days. I wonder when the first heat wave ๐ŸŒŠ of the year will hit. I’m looking forward to hot summer days at the potholers and the Mine Kill Swimming pool. ๐ŸŠ Then settling down for the night up at Burnt Rossman State Forest. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers after 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 52 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 46 at 5am. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1967.

Still chewing over the Adirondacks versus the Greens for the weekend. I’m really leaning towards the greens now, as I’m interested in hiking back to Lye Brook Falls and I just don’t like the road noise along NY 8. โ›บ But if it looks sunnier in the Adirondacks I might choose them. I have to make a decision tomorrow I guess. I may go shopping tonight for camp or at least get packing.

I have that event to go to on Thursday evening and there is no reason I couldn’t do a lot of packing and shopping tonight for camp.๐Ÿ” I don’t need a lot for camp but maybe some burgers and macaroni would be good for dinner at camp. I’ve created a packing list to help keep things more organized when packing. ๐ŸŽ’

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:29 pm with dusk at 9:04 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 64 and 48 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 75 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1925.

Dogwood

April 16, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 49 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. I sat out back for a while after my evening walk but it’s quite cool with the breeze, so I decided to head inside, take out my contacts and retire to bed.

It was kind of a crazy ๐Ÿ˜œ at times day at work. Not bad but it made the time go by relatively quickly. I decided to walk down after work and catch the bus down by the old Union Station ๐Ÿš‰ right before the bus gets on the expressway. Looked like bad congestion heading north out of the city but not so much heading south.

I got home, cooked up some burgers ๐Ÿ” and laid back for a while. I listened to a podcast for a while. Eventually I went for my evening walk.

Playing with the overhead truck cap lights that are now based on the newer 2835 chip, they are probably twice as bright ๐Ÿ”† while consuming half the power as before. Nice starry night but cold with the breeze for sure. ๐ŸŒŸ I enjoyed my evening walk which I did earlier then normal as I am tired.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 34 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 7th. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph. In 2018, we had light drizzle in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 97% illuminated. The moon will set at 5:34 am. The ๐ŸŒ• is on Thursday night with a mostly clear then chance of showers skies. The sun will rise at 6:11 am with the first light at 5:41 am, which is one minute and 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 30 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 62 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 23rd. North wind 3 to 5 mph. That’s a nice change from the frigid weather it recent. A year ago, we had rain in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2002. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1965.โ„

The forecast continues to call for mild but rainy weather for the Easter Weekend. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, rain likely before 2pm, then showers likely after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 6am. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 62. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 46 at 7am. Typical average high for the weekend is 61 degrees.

While I have no outdoor plans for the weekend ๐Ÿ’ฆ I do think that I’ll start packing up my truck for camping season โ›บ this weekend. The weather looks pretty good in the long range so the plan would be to camp and fish next weekend in the Adirondacks. Not the latest I’ve gotten out camping for the year but relatively late. A lot had to do with the relatively cold April and the lateness of Easter ๐Ÿฐ this year. Last year in contrast I was busy with volunteering with Aidan O’Connor’s special election so I didn’t get up north until the first week of May. It’s unfortunate that he couldn’t pull it off in 2018, but it’s a pretty conservative district.

In four weeks on May 14 the sun will be setting at 8:10 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 13 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 77 and 54 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 69 and 46 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 1900.

I am not totally sure about giving up owning a car in a few years ๐Ÿš™ but I’m still thinking about the numbers over going car less for a few year some point in the future. Maybe a $100,000 savings over a decade by not owning a car is an over estimate, but motoring is so expensive and most of the time my truck is parked. ๐Ÿ…ฟ I just prefer to walk or use transit around town. On the other hand I sure enjoy camping in the wilderness. So I don’t know. It’s one option, especially with the ease of ride sharing, bicycles ๐Ÿšฒ and public transport. ๐Ÿš I still eventually want to own land out in the country and that will involve motoring but not in New York State so it’s sometime off in the future. Been great in the markets lately and I think I have a good plan but I also realize downs are coming at some point in the market. But I’m ready to ride the bear market too.

Looking ahead, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is a month away, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 2 months, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 3 months, Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 22 weeks, October ๐Ÿ›ฅ is in 24 weeks and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 81 weeks.

Powerline to West

April 13, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Mostly cloudy and 77 degrees in Westerlo.๐ŸŒฅ There is a west-southwest breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 41 degrees. Warm and dry.

I got the brake switch installed in the truck, and the cruise control is working again.๐Ÿš— It wasn’t too hard, the worse part was getting the bolt back in, which I had to fiddle around a bit, because the first time I tried I didn’t have the pressure clip lined up properly. The clip came off easily, as did the sensor. I could have ordered the same part online from Amazon for half the price — but I’m not complaining about a $25 fix to my truck, that took all of a half hour to do — repositing the clip and getting the bolt tightened back up was the only real challenging part.

I am a big fan of cruise control as it’s the best way to control your speed on the open road. You reach the speed limit of in rolling country a few miles below it and you hit a button and it locks ๐Ÿ›… you at a legal speed. No need to constantly monitor your speed. It was annoying when the cruise stopped working in the cold, it was even worse now that it’s warmed up and I’m traveling more. I probably have the cruise control on 90% of the time while I drive, especially in speed zones.

I got to the transfer station today, โ™ป returned all my cans and bottles for recycling. so now they are out of the back of my truck. I replaced the light strip that was failing in the truck cap, with a bright, modern new one. After five years several segments of the LEDs had failed and the waterproofing was yellowing, greatly reducing the output. I do need to get some more super glue, not the runny type to tack it on in a few more locations. Now I should have plenty of light in my truck cap, and it’s free of bottles and cans.

This evening is Sunday dinner at the folks house ๐Ÿ” some good burgers on the grill. Should be good.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 28th. Northwest wind 6 to 13 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1973.

The sun will set at 7:35 pm with dusk around 8:04 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 63 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly after 4pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 57 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 12th. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1968. 1.4 inches of snow fell back in 1950.โ„

I haven’t decided if tomorrow I’ll start packing my camping gear โ›บ again or wait until I get glue to fix the LED tape so I don’t spill glue everywhere. ๐Ÿ’ก But I do think I’ll get that packed sometime this week. I’m not sure if I’m heading out of town next weekend, I might instead do that hike up Platte Kill Clove sometime during the Easter Weekend ๐Ÿฐ.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. That might be the weekend I go to camp. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, cold conditions, partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.
