January 9, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Mostly cloudy and 27 degrees in Delmar. ☁ Calm wind. Things will start to thaw out at around 10 am. 🌡️

By recent standards I would call this a fairly cold morning but we are in the coldest part of the year historically. Running a minute or two late for my morning walk 🚶 as I’m taking the local bus 🚍 in as it’s a session day. 👨🏻‍💼

Decided to be a cereal 🥣 killer this morning and had cereal that I bought yesterday. it’s a quick breakfast when time is tight. I don’t buy the kind loaded with sugar but I do add frozen blueberries and honey 🍯. What can I say I’m not perfect. And I’m sure by mid morning I’ll feel sick 🤮 as the sugar high wears off.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 18th. The record high of 62 was set in 2008. 9.9 inches of snow fell back in 1953.❄

I was thinking what an awful experience going to Colonie really was yesterday. 🚦 Seemed like one traffic light after another between the garbage heaps towering over the suburban homes and those polished brass turds, I meaning brass frying 🍳 pans soon to be compacted in the back of a garbage truck and hauled to the growing mounds on the outskirts of town.

This evening is probably the best to go to the laundromat. 👖Mainly because it will be quiet tonight and I have plans for Tuesday to attend a public hearing on a proposed development in the Pine Bush. 🌲 Doesn’t take me long to get sucked into things like that. But I try to be less political these. I try to be more selective on things I get involved in these days. Although if I can find enough clothes maybe I can wait until Wednesday. I’m often really tired on Mondays after work. 😴

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 34. For Martin Luther’s birthday 🎂, sunny with a high around 40. Kind of like my upcoming birthday which also is a holiday in the sense it’s a Saturday. 😊 At least it’s not my birthday like that one year when the legislature worked late into the night to deprive my gun rights. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

I think I do want to get out of town this weekend ⛺ but how far I go really depends on the weather. I’m kind of glad there is no snow around thought maybe they’ll have a couple of inches in the higher elevations by the end of the week. 🌨

For a while the weather was nothing short of beautiful hiking around 13th Lake. Yet, within a couple of hours the clouds would be back, and and rain and snow could come again...

Good morning! Happy Mothers Day 👩‍ ! Got to listen to that good ol’ Zappa record with the Mothers. As Merle once sung, there are two kinds of mothers. So many good choices! I thought about walking down to the Normans Kill Falls with the deep blue skies and everything greening up so nicely 💦 but it seems like it would be crowded on the rail trail, and truth be told I’m not super ambitious on the weekends. Maybe I’ll go to Partridge Run and hike after noontime, but I’m watching the weather and seeing how cloudy it will be later on. 🐦 Or if it looks like the storm might push in early, I might go to Bennett Hill. 🏃‍♀️ I don’t have a lot of fuel in my truck, so I don’t want to go far from home. ⛽

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Fog and clouds and 58 degrees out for my morning walk past the Bethlehem Central High School. 🌫 Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees. A tad bit of a mugginess in the air. The skies will clear Saturday around 5 am. I am glad I at least was able to get out for my walk.

Yesterday was an incredibly busy day 👨🏻‍💼 between the lunch time meeting downtown and the project I was working on. 📄 Kind of nice having things start to get closer back to normal. 😷 Still wearing the mask on the bus and hallways, but with everybody vaccinated didn’t have to be quite so concerned about maintaining six-feet in the office, 🔀. I do love the view from my office in the Smith building, but when I return downtown, I might actually be moving to a new private office, with not such a great view but closer to department I work with these days.

I went over to John Wolcott’s house for a while 📜 and while we didn’t find anything too exciting, it was an interesting afternoon in the sense a bunch of bullets rang out down the street about 5 minutes after I arrived. 🔫 Sounded like a 22lr gun, I tuned into police scanner and they said it was somebody shooting a long-gun in a blue Jeep liberty. 💥 They closed off the street for a while, and I don’t know what ended up happening but by the time I went to catch the bus, 🚌 everything was packed up and gone except for one remaining police car. 👮‍♀️ Don’t you know, you aren’t supposed to be shooting off your guns within 500 feet of an occupied structure that you don’t own. 🌲 One of the advantages of being in Adirondacks — being able to shoot your guns without people getting all pissy like they do in the ghetto. 🏚

The record high of 88 was set in 1888. 1 inch of snow fell back in 1885.❄ Hardly something to write about, then again Saturday is May Day.

I am not expecting a real nice day, ⛈ and probably real wet later but at least I got out for my morning walk. I am thinking about going to laundromat 👕 but it will depend on how the day goes, I might change my mind later on. Starting to run low on groceries, but my list of things to do for work is so long 📋 that I don’t know if leaving my computer during the day is going to work. 📨 I’m also having some issues with emails on my phone. I’ll have to try to figure that out as I’ve been super busy lately. 🤖 But I guess it’s a good change, it makes me feel far less bored, and I’m getting important things done.

Ever since I got out camping I’ve been sleeping really well. 💤 It’s amazing what a few nights in the wilderness can do for sleeping. 🛌 Maybe it’s the campfires 🔥 or having a few beers up at camp, 🍺 but it’s probably just listening to sound of wilderness.

The weekend forecast has improved. 😎 Saturday, sunny, with a high near 55. Northwest wind 14 to 16 mph. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 68. Maximum dew point of 48 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 65 degrees. Yeah, I’ll take that forecast but it should also awaken the black flies. 🐜 That said, I think this is a stay at home weekend, just because next Monday doesn’t look great, and I just got back from the Adirondacks.
