Cue the music, the DIRE EMERGENCY SNOW STORM is upon us ๐ŸŒจ

Aldis in Colonie was so packed with people yesterday, picked over grocery wise with people stocking up for the winter storm that is supposedly approaching today, I just turned around and left. I look across the street at the Market32 with the packed parking lot, and tossed my hands up knowing chances were slim I’d get any whole-wheat flour or other needed groceries. Best to wait until today, when the stockers have been able to restore the shopping experience by morning. I’ll just do Walmart after I shower this morning.

Good morning! Happy Soon to be Wet and Sloppy Sunday. ๐ŸŒง It seems like it rains every Sunday lately. Without fail. Rain loves the weekend. Clouds and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๏ธ Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 6 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Decided I wanted pancakes today, ๐ŸŠ ๐Ÿฅž and I have a lot of oranges, so I decided to try out full-orange pancakes, milling both the orange and peal to make some rather zesty fully flavored pancakes with some lemon juice topped with some greek yogurt and honey. ๐Ÿฏ Wow did they come out good — that orange flavor really shined, especially some ginger, vanilla in the mixture. Finished up the remaining oatmeal I had in the mixture, along with the whole wheat flour and had to fall back onto using some rye flour, but it worked out well.

Today will rain and snow. ๐ŸŒง High of 35 degrees at 7am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 9th. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. Not going to stick more A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 56 was set in 1916. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 1897.โ„

Riding trail in the Albany Pine Bush was great yesterday ๐Ÿšต‍โ™€๏ธ ๐ŸŒฒ though by mid-day I was starting to feel a bit worn out from all the trail riding. The section off of Kings Road was closed due to them logging and using a tub grinder to chop up the black locus, blackberries and invasive trees as part of the restoration effort. ๐Ÿฆ‹ Ended up riding my bike around Morris and Curry Road to see what I could spot from the road both ecologically and development wise, to further educate myself for Save the Pine Bush. ๐Ÿ’ญ In the afternoon, after shopping at Salvation Army I decided to head up Balltown Road to Aquaduct, as I wanted to check out the old Aquaduct that once carried the second Erie Canal across the Mohawk River and then NY 146 until the 1964 bridge was completed, and the aquaduct demolished to improve the river’s flow and prevent ice jamming. Seems odd these days when Mohawk River ice jams are rare, because the river rarely jams up with so much ice. โ„๏ธ Climate change has changed a lot in our world. There was some ice on Mohawk River but not a lot. Then I rode my bike down the Erie Canalway to the ALCO Trail through that swanky new Mohawk Harbor development, then through the Stockade and Riverfront Park, then the Erie Canalway Trail to Lock 8 and ultimately out to I-890 – NY 5 Connector near Rotterdam Junction. ๐Ÿ›ฃ

While Aldis was insane yesterday, ๐Ÿ‘” I did luck out at the Salvation Army in Karner – Niskayuna – Lisha Kill or whatever the area off of Central Avenue and got two nice dressier shirts. The stuff you get there is nicer then anything you might find at Walmart and cheaper then going to a place like Macy’s or JC Pennies. Plus often much higher quality. Two really nice shirts for $9.60. Can’t beat prices like that. Not only are there wonderful deals at Salvation Army, you’re supporting their disaster and community development efforts. That place is a complete dump on the outside, with people leaving discarded furniture and trash all around it, but inside it really is the best thrift store to get really nice clothing, often for prices far below other thrift stores around. Not going to find anything that nice so cheap at Goodwill or one of the “high end” thrift store boutiques like in Delmar or Slingerlands. Also looked at lamps for my new office, ๐Ÿ›‹ but I’m going to wait until I move into my permanent office before committing to buying a desk lap, assuming I can’t find one in a storage closet somewhere. Thrift shop’s the way to go for that — I am thinking I can put a 150 watt equivalent bulb ๐Ÿ’ก in it as a bright desk lamp. I just hate the overhead florescent lighting.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 29.1° from the due south horizon (-41.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:21 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (238°). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (246°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:03 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 5:33 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:07 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and snow ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 34 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 8 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 54 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 14 seconds over today.

Tonight will snow, mainly before 4am. ๐ŸŒจ Low of 33 degrees at 5am. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. North wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. Ain’t going to be much snow on the roads with that temperature, especially if they’re treated with the tons of deicing chemicals as they most certainly are. Maybe this week will be a good one to wash my truck. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1925.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day ๐Ÿฅ› when the sun will be setting at 5:22 pm with dusk at 5:50 pm. I was totally getting teased the other day in my old office for being such a complainer. I know, I’m such a perfectionist. ๐Ÿ’Ž Cheap bastard too, but I’m saving all my money so I can blow it someday on land, ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐ŸŒพ goats ๐Ÿ, hogs, ๐Ÿท and cattle. ๐Ÿ„ I’ve been told cattle are the fastest way to be broke forever, maybe except for horses. ๐Ÿด Probably someday I’ll meet a girl who is as much a hillbilly as I’m and I’ll have to agree on horses in exchange for having a burn barrel and land. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ›ข Actually, I think I complain about things, but it’s different from what others complain about. I don’t like working in suburbs, when so many others love the acres of parking for easy motoring and the convenience of avoiding crowded elevators, lol. ๐Ÿคฃ On that day in 2023, we had mostly sunny skies snow showers and temperatures between 38 and 23 degrees. I wouldn’t say that’s spilled milk, but a rather nice day. Maybe just a few drips of milk after the teats are stripped. ๐Ÿฎ Typically, the high temperature is 35 degrees. Going to be in the forties during this up coming week. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1981.

Recharge

29 days left in the year โŒ›

Depending on how you count it, basically four weekends left if even that before we start the 2024 year. Going to be a busy year, but I am looking forward to the next chapter of my life working out in the suburbs, really putting my data science knowledge and experience to work in my new job. But first a rainy but mild weekend to get through and the holidays.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Not such a drag as I had Monday off and the rest of week was pretty busy, although Friday morning dragged a bit waiting for the next project to come in. Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees at the Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind.Temperatures will drop below freezing at Tuesday around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Started out my morning a little after 5 o’clock as I always do. โฐ I’m not one to set an alarm but I wake up at that hour as I’m usually asleep before 9 PM and around then I have to get up and do the bathroom thing, ๐Ÿ’ฉ so it’s best to get up and going and get a bright and early start on the morning. Decided to bake a breakfast cake this morning ๐Ÿฐ — this time I started with food-processor milled oatmeal, whole wheat flour, stevia, two bananas, baking powder, canned pumpkin an egg, and some water and baking it. Topped it with lots of pumpkin pie spice. ๐ŸŽƒ It was pretty darn good, the egg and gluten from the whole-wheat flour made it very cake like and not so dry as often comes out when cooking with milled oatmeal. Plus some stomach-filling protein from the egg, and two types of fiber — insoluble fiber from the whole-wheat flour and pumpkin plus soluble fiber from oatmeal. โ˜• I had to go to Stewart’s to get milk for the coffee but now this morning is a go.

Today will have a slight chance of showers between 10am and 1pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 47 degrees at 1pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 22nd. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 1998. 6.8 inches of snow fell back in 2019.โ„

I am going to take a wait and see approach to today ๐ŸŒง but if it looks like it’s going to remain just cloudy I might head up to the Albany Pine Bush for a bike / hike on some of the trails, ๐Ÿšฒ ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ and then head up to the Salvation Army to look at clothes, especially dressier things for work. ๐Ÿ‘” I am though most likely going to have to just buy some dress shirts and pants for work ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ’ผ as nothing I have really fits well anymore after loosing so much weight. Then I need to get spices and probably some other groceries at Walmart, though truth be told my pantry isn’t bad currently but I need more frozen fruit and vegetables, ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅฆ along with the spices. Turmeric and ginger in particular but also some cinnamon and Chipotle would be good as I’m low on all those things. I don’t really have to go shopping, but at some point I do want to replenish my pantry and I hate to stay home all day. ๐Ÿ›’

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 11:46 am with sun having an altitude of 25.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-45.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 12.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 3:39 pm with the sun in the southwest (233ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (241ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:24 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 21 seconds with dusk around 4:54 pm, which is 18 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:31 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 46 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 18 seconds over today.

I haven’t decided to make bread or pea soup today. ๐Ÿž That was originally the plan but I kind of forgot or was tired and cold after last night so after my salmon ๐ŸŸ for dinner, I had some Greek yogurt and pumpkin, ๐ŸŽƒ then settled down to bed ๐Ÿ›Œ doing some more of the Udemy course ๐ŸŽ“ on machine learning and went to sleep. I might wait until Sunday evening to kneed and make more bread, and enjoy it fresh come Monday. Maybe the same thing with the pea soup. I do have kidney beans cooking down on the stove, so I could do beans and rice later, and I took both some previously cooked and frozen chickpeas and butternut squash out of the freezer. Also still have spaghetti squash in the fridge from earlier in the week I should eat before it goes bad. Maybe it’s best to save the bread until Monday. Pea soup is good but it can make me gassy, ๐Ÿ˜ค which is why I was thinking maybe better to have it during the weekend. Helps though if I make sure to drink plenty of water with it and avoid the shredded carrots ๐Ÿฅ• in the bread I’m serving with it.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 5am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 23rd. Light north wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of -1 occurred back in 1976.

The blog advertising pulled in $165 since September 23, ๐Ÿค‘ which isn’t too bad and will help me recoup at least some of the costs of the web hosting come a few weeks when finally the money is deposited in my bank. It looks like I will be earning roughly $75 a month going forward, getting paid every other month. By April, I should have recouped the hosting and domain costs from advertising, though some depends on ad rates which decline after the Christmas season and web traffic, ๐Ÿ•ธ which always picks up during the summer months when people are looking for trails and places for camping. ๐Ÿ• I probably wouldn’t have done the advertising thing but I didn’t like the sting of the rising hosting bills a few months back, of which my bank account still hasn’t fully recovered.

I put in a FOIL request for the Recreation Unit Management Plan Shapefile with the DEC. ๐Ÿ• This would be nice for making maps, somebody asked for it a while back and I never was able to get them the file. Basically this shapefile includes the area covered unit plans, and I can’t find it online on an ArcGIS REST/Service or the DEC website. I don’t like doing too many FOIL requests ๐Ÿฃ these days, as I don’t like my name all over government documents, but this would be useful to have, and could create many good maps and analysis for the blog ๐Ÿ—บ which could further drive traffic here. Come February 2024, I am also going to get the update voter file for the full state rather than just the county that I have now, ๐Ÿ—ณ so I can use it for analysis, especially machine learning purposes to see if I can figure out new ways of targeting ๐ŸŽฏ voters.

As previously noted, next Saturday is Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2022, we had sunny and temperatures between 39 and 25 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 40 degrees. We hit a record high of 62 back in 1966.

Sun Peaks Over Ashokan Range

April 28, 2023 Morning

100 days of walking Five Miles or more a day ๐Ÿšถ

Probably by midday it will mark 100 days of walking a minimum of 5 miles a day or 10,000 steps. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ That said, lately I’ve been doing a lot more. Yesterday that worked out to be more like 11 1/2 miles. Feeling great, except for my lack of sleep last night!

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Partly cloudy with fog around and 41 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. โ›… Calm wind.

For the first time in a long time I did not sleep well ๐Ÿ› last night. Part of it was I didn’t get to bed until later then usual as I walked until 7:45 then went to the grocery store. By the time I was in bed and lights off it was closer to quarter before ten. Then I woke up at 2 am and struggled to get back to sleep. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Worse thing about waking up during the night ๐ŸŒƒ is all the podcast ads magically become for Better Help, sleeping medications and mattress commercials. ๐Ÿ’Š Can’t sleep at night, our online therapists can help you 24-7. Talking to a shrink is exactly what I need in this middle of the night when I can’t sleep. Really, lol. No I just need to get up, take a piss and get back to bed listening to some boring ๐Ÿ’ค lecture of podcast.

Today will have increasing clouds ๐ŸŒฅ ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ˜, with a high of 65 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 10 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1990. There was a dusting of snow in 1966.โ„

Yesterday was a crickets day at work ๐Ÿฆ— it was dead quiet until it wasn’t. But then the project got sent back to the researcher and it was dead. I’ve been continuing to update R studio packages, and working on some interesting new maps. I like the quality of the simple maps I’m getting out of ggplot these days. Accidentally scheduled too many posts yesterday evening, but I’m moving them around and getting that fixed.

Got out walking after a quick dinner ๐Ÿƒ managing to get in 11 1/2 miles for the day. Then I went grocery shopping. ๐Ÿ›’ When I got done ringing up my items from shopping, I had a bit of sticker shock after shopping — my bill rang up to $113. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I know, but then again I needed coffee, salmon, and some other more expensive things that will likely last a month or two as a dole out the servings over time. I buy in bulk, and these days bulk buying is expensive. โ˜• I expect my grocery bills to much closer to normal in coming weeks, but also I do expect they’ll run about $10-20 a week more then what they were before I started eating healthy. While in some ways healthy foods bought in bulk are less expensive, all the ingredients and variety just adds up. ๐Ÿ‘จ‍โš•๏ธ And it’s worth it if it keeps me healthy, as I noted last night.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 61.5° from the due south horizon (-9.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:13 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (284°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-northwest (290°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:52 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 5 seconds with dusk around 8:22 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south (188°) at an altitude of 66° from the horizon, 252,101 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:00 pm. At sunset, look for cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 59 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 14 hours of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 1am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 5th. Southeast wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1947.

Tomorrow will have showers. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 50 degrees at 2pm. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 30th. Maximum dew point of 43 at 1pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Southeast wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 88 was set in 1888. 1 inches of snow fell back in 1885.โ„

This weekend I want to work on the bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ rebuilding the wheel now that I have the gears off and spokes here. Once the wheel is trued, I will reinstall the tube. I’m not sure if I need a new rear tube, seems like it has a slow leak, I have rubber cement and rubber patches to fix it. Then I’ll order the remaining parts I need — a rear derailer cable and screw/adjuster plate. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ”ง

Looking ahead to Sunday, showers, mainly after 2pm. High near 62. Southeast wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 51 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 66 degrees.

Looking ahead, next Friday is Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  when the sun will be setting at 8:01 pm with dusk at 8:30 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 68 and 49 degrees. Right on target. Typically, the high temperature is 68 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944. I am hoping to get out of town next week, maybe to the Adirondacks so I can get eaten alive by black flies. But a lot depends on the weather. Some forecasts call for sun, others for rain, but it’s 7 days out and that’s always a wild card. I guess the alternative could be going out to Schoharie or Rensselaerville.

Across the Lake To Balm of Gilead

April 25, 2023 Morning

Late again โŒš

Does anybody use a watch in 2023? Second gear didn’t want to engage properly but I’m finally out walking and I think I can make up sufficient time during breakfast to catch the express.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly cloudy and 38 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The skies will clear around noontime.

I’m up and moving ๐Ÿ˜ด early enough to avoid the smoldering cars and the traffic around the High School ๐Ÿซ and I think I’ll make the morning work for me. I think I’ll reheat those pancakes ๐Ÿฅž I made up this weekend. Then hurry into the shower, iron my clothes and run out to the bus. ๐ŸšŒ That said, usually these days the bus is running late so I’ll probably be good on time.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 54 degrees at 5pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 5th. Northwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 69 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2009. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1928.โ„ I think the winter season is almost done.

Monday was good, โ˜บ a somewhat busy day but I found a spec sheet ๐Ÿ“„ for my bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ so I could order parts for it. I believe I’m getting closer to getting it back on the road. Walked 9.1 miles, mostly in the evening after work but I also stepped out of the office mid-day for while.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.5° from the due south horizon (-10.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:10 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (283°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

Today is a pay day ๐Ÿ’ต which is good as rent is due the end of the week with May just around the corner. My rent remains quite affordable and living in the city I don’t have to drive anywhere. And once I get my bike running my hope is to start saving on my bus ๐Ÿš fare too.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (289°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:48 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 8:18 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the west-southwest (255°) at an altitude of 56° from the horizon, 250,541 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:55 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 51 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 52 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over yesterday.

The lock ๐Ÿ”’ on my door ๐Ÿšช has been acting up again but I found another key ๐Ÿ— and seemed to free it up. I’ll have to see if I have some lock grease around or I’ll have to call the landlord. I think things corroded up a bit from the heavy rain over the weekend.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 35 degrees at 3am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 11th. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1972.

Weekend still looks cloudy, cool and wet. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Sunday, showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Typical average high for the weekend is 66 degrees. Yes, I am sticking in town I think.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 82 and 47 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1953.

Checking Me Out

April 20, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. โ˜บ

Maybe there is hope for warmer weather and the weekend but so far this morning is plain cold.

Partly clear and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒค๏ธThere is a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Out walking ๐Ÿšถ this morning and it is cold. 8.9 miles yesterday, did laps at the park ๐Ÿž until dark and then ran to Walmart for groceries ๐Ÿ›’ and put gas in Red. โ›ฝ Summer is coming, gas prices are on the rise. I was low on fruits and fiber, I found myself eating unhealthier carbs so I decided it was time to run to the grocery store. It will be nice when I have a bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ again for chores like this.

Planning on having Quinoa and blueberries this morning. ๐Ÿซ I got a bag of frozen blueberries at the store last night and it’s time to swap in a new grain instead of oatmeal this morning for breakfast. Health involves variety to ensure a mixture of vitamins.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 62 degrees at 4pm. Typical for today. Northwest wind around 6 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 52 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1941. 5.8 inches of snow fell back in 1947.โ„

Ethics training for me at 10 am โš–๏ธ which I’m sure is as obnoxious as it has been the dozens of times I’ve taken it. Zoom class so I can do it from my office, which is nice. I’m not sure how it will work with session during those hours, I guess use multiple windows. The IRC maps ๐Ÿ—บ of the new proposed Assembly will be released at 12 pm and I’m quite interested to see what they will be like and how they preform.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 58.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-12ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:05 pm with the sun in the west (280ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:43 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 8:12 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) at an altitude of 5ยฐ from the horizon, 238,080 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:48 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 60 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 13 hours and 39 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 42 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 41 degrees at 4am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 25th. Light and variable wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1875.

Cool with showers around this weekend. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธSaturday, a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Southeast wind 13 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Maximum dew point of 49 at 8pm. Sunday, showers. High near 63. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 63 degrees.

This is not a week for heading out of town ๐Ÿก but I’ll have to find something interesting and fun to do on Saturday like take a walk somewhere interesting. ๐Ÿšถ I want to get out of town soon, maybe next week. I guess a lot depends on when the whole budget agreement goes down, as I want to use comp time to take a long weekend but I haven’t worked late.

Looking ahead, next Thursday is Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:52 pm with dusk at 8:20 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 51 and 39 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

Dusk

April 13, 2023 Morning

On our way to 86 degrees. โ˜€

Refreshingly cool this morning but I’m sure it will warm up quickly as the day progresses. Probably want to draw my shades in my office as it will get warm inside.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Clear and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒ… Some haze to the east adding some oranges and yellows to the sunrise. Calm wind. The dew point is 45 degrees. Not very humid but not bone dry. I heard there was wildfires out in Schoharie out by the 88.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 86 degrees at 3pm. 28 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 48 at 2pm. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 1977. 5.5 inches of snow fell back in 1950.โ„

Going to be a hot one it seems ๐Ÿ˜ฐ but not a lot of humidity. The breeze might actually make it feel nice in the evening. Should be a really nice day.

Yesterday I made up the shrimp ๐Ÿฆ and rice ๐Ÿš I was thinking about on Tuesday. Really hit the spot. I cooked the rice, onions and lentils before work and thawed a few precooked shrimp during the day in the fridge. Great summer meal, no need for any salt or seasoning in the rice as the shrimp and onions provided all that was needed.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-14.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:57 pm with the sun in the west (277ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

I was looking at some old pictures from high school and was noticing how much thinner I am โ˜บ then twenty years ago. Some of it is my more recent healthy eating and walk ๐Ÿšถ program though I think the first drop was in college walking and biking the rural roads around my house then moving to the suburbs and walking most places in my neighborhood. But there is more to do but I’m learning a lot and the things I buy and put in my body are different at age 40 are different than younger years.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (283ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:35 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 8:03 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:39 pm. Tomorrow will have 13 hours and 23 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over today.

Yesterday I walked out to Five Rivers ๐Ÿธ after work. Worked out to be 25,000 steps or 12 1/2 miles for the day. I’ll have to keep Five Rivers in mind for evening walks, especially as the days get longer. It’s a nice change from the Town Park.

Last Light of the Day

April 4, 2023 6 AM Update

Second gear, pull ‘r down and towards you โš™

Pull it back into second on this Tuesday. Seems like the rain was done in time for the morning walk. Dark start to the morn but it’s getting bright out quickly. 9.1 miles yesterday.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Cloudy and 46 degrees in Delmar. ๐ŸŒฅ Calm wind. Mild weather.

Yesterday was nice with all that sunlight streaming into my office. โ˜€ I really like my private office with the east facing windows and my desk right next to the windows with the plants. ๐ŸŒฟ I can complain about a lot but that’s nice. The money’s good even if most of it’s going into investments for a better tomorrow. And I’m focused on more exercise every day and eating right. Maybe today though I’ll need my desk lamp on, especially later in the day.

Today will have a chance of light rain before 10am, then a slight chance of light rain after 5pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 60 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 16th. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 79 was set in 1950. 4.3 inches of snow fell back in 2016.โ„

Out walking a bit early today ๐Ÿš as the bus lately has been running earlier lately and I don’t want to risk missing it like I almost did yesterday. Plus I was up and going. ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™€๏ธ I much prefer to walk first and eat breakfast second. Skipping the coffee โ˜• before walking means I have much less of a need to use the bathroom, ๐Ÿšฝ plus it makes it more like a sleep walk. ๐Ÿค– Sometimes the best way to get through the morning.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:59 pm with sun having an altitude of 53° from the due south horizon (-17.8° vs. 6/21). At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 9 mph. Tomorrow will have 12 hours and 57 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over today.

Seems like there is some hints of green in the grass ๐ŸŒพnow that we are in the month of April. It will be nice once things green up a bit. Looking forward to seeing more color in the world as things green up and the fire danger go down so I can have bigger fires in the woods. That said, the black flies are in waiting but I have the screen tent for those days.

A picture perfect weekend on tap for Easter. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 56. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 62. Maximum dew point of 30 at 9pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 56 degrees. It should be a nice weekend assuming I get out of jail before then, ๐Ÿ™Œ though not much is likely to happen during that weekend I was more than a little hoping to get out of town come Thursday. Maybe I was a little too optimistic that Kathy would bail me out. I’ll find something fun to do this weekend. ๐Ÿฐ

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be 8:30 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 7:59 pm.
