Where the City of Albany gets it's water from -- the Alcove and Basic Reservoirs.
The Alcove Reservoir is not only a larger reservoir and basin, it also has much higher water quality due to land cover. The Basic Reservoir is connected to the Alcove Reservoir via pipeline and Silver Creek but used only occasionally due to lower water quality and quantity.
For many years in the 1960s, the Thruway Authority was opposed to creating an exit from the Thruway specifically for Interstate 88 due to the high cost of staffing toll booths. Ultimately they agreed but originally they had planned a connector at Exit 25. This was discarded in part due to concerns with run off from road salt into the Watervliet Reservoir.
Rome Sand Plains is a 15,000-acre pine barrens about five miles west of the city center of Rome in Oneida County in central New York. It consists of a mosaic of sand dunes rising about 50 feet above low peat bogs that lie between the dunes.
