Charles Baker State Forest

Charles Baker State Forest is named after the first District Forester who administered it. This property totals over 9,400 acres in southeast Madison County and makes up the core area for the Brookfield Trail System. This highly acclaimed horse and snowmobile trail system has over 130 miles of trails set throughout three state forests (Charles Baker State Forest, Brookfield Railroad State Forest, and Beaver Creek State Forest) that make up the Brookfield unit management area. These three forests collectively provide 13,750 acres of public reforestation lands for multiple recreation purposes.

Why the Rotary Engine Is Perfect for Hydrogen Fuel

Why the Rotary Engine Is Perfect for Hydrogen Fuel

I doubt any internal combustion engine driving engine wheels has a future. Three phase alternating current electric motors are superior to both piston and rotary motors. Electric motors are more efficient, they have nearly full torque at their full range of speeds and no gear box or transmission is required. If anything in the future, gas motors will serve as backup generators to make electricity when on board batteries get low, similar to diesel electric locomotives that are widely used.

I just wish they would have kept the state names on the interstate signs after 1978, as interstate numbers are reused in different states. You can't take New York Interstate 88 to Illinois Interstate 88, nor can you take New York interstate 86 to Idaho Interstate 86. Maybe at some point New York Interstate 99 will connect to Pennsylvania Interstate 99 but that's likely a decade away as several major upgrades to US 220 will be needed to make it a reality.

I am kind of glad I decided that I went to Cherry Ridge Camping Area in Madison County rather than the East Branch of the Sacandaga River / NY 8 this weekend.

I am kind of glad I decided that I went to Cherry Ridge Camping Area in Madison County rather than the East Branch of the Sacandaga River / NY 8 this weekend. As scenic as the Adirondacks and the East Branch are there is the constant drone of traffic and trucks downshifting along NY 8 versus only a handful of hunters pickups here. Camping on the East Branch at times feels like camping in the median of an expressway. Plus in many ways the scenery of Madison County is rather different from the Finger Lakes where I was two weeks ago. And much less snow.
