Formerly the last landfill in the Adirondack Park, it was closed in 1998 after a permit despute with the state, seeking to expand tonnage to 500 tons a day to take in garbage from Rennselear County and other location. The site still has room for future cells including some ready to be reopened but for now Essex County has been exporting garbage to the Franklin County landfill.
