December 10, 2017 Night
Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south-southwest breeze at 7 mph. The skies will clear tomorrow around 10 am. Not a really bad evening, although a bit cool and icy in areas that did not melt today.
We might get another half foot of snow tomorrow night into Tuesday. Maybe closer to a foot of snow in the Adirondacks. I am sure that the snowmobilers will rejoice. I often think about getting a sled but with climate change meaning snow is less common around here and my dislike of driving on icy roads, that’s not to be. Snowmobiling is a great deal of fun though. I parked Big Red on the side of the building on the grass, so I don’t get plowed in should the storm turn out to be a big one.
Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum wind chill around 21 at 12am; Southwest wind around 7 mph. In 2016, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 13 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1988.
Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon with 41% illuminated. The moon will rise tomorrow at 12:30 am. The New Moon is next Sunday with partly cloudy skies. The sun will rise at 7:15 am with the first light at 6:43 am, which is 50 seconds later than yesterday. Tonight will have 14 hours and 54 minutes of darkness, an increase of 45 seconds over last night.
Tomorrow will be partly sunny, with a high of 34 degrees at 12pm. Three degrees below normal. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 31 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1952. 4.3 inches of snow fell back in 1970.
While I’m not ready for winter, nor am I happy that Big Red is covered with salt, I will take it day by day. At least where I live I don’t have to drive to work. Winter is what it is. I totally sympathize with those who have left for warmer climates.
Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 33. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 36 degrees.
In four weeks on January 7 the sun will be setting at 4:39 pm, which is 17 minutes and 5 seconds later then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 21 and 11 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 31 and 15 degrees. The record high of 56 degrees was set back in 1915.
Looking ahead, Christmas Eve is in 2 weeks, New Years Eve is in 3 weeks, Coldest Day of Year (Avg. 14-30 degrees) is a month away, National Hug Day is in 6 weeks, Winnie the Pooh Day is in 10 weeks and April Fools Day and Easter is in 16 weeks.
I should probably get some sleep. Good night!
