November 22, 2017 Morning
Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Six weeks to State of the State Day.Β In case you are thinking of 2018 and sitting around waiting for what pork the governor will be doling out. Me, I’m more thinking about the Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.Β I’m all for pork but turkey is also good too. Dark and cloudy and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. The skies will clear around 2 pm.
Today will have a chance of showers, mainly before 1pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high of 44 degrees at 10am. Typical for today. South wind 5 to 14 mph becoming northwest in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Once it clears it should be a nice day. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1931. 9.1 inches of snow fell back in 1943.
The sun will set at 4:26 pm with dusk around 4:57 pm, which is 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for partly clear conditions and 40 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 51 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 26 degrees at 4am. Six degrees below normal. Northwest wind 7 to 15 mph. In 2016, we had cloudy skies, clearing in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of 5 occurred back in 1972.
Definitely a pretty dark morning. I did make it down in time to catch the express bus to work. Another big articulated pusher bus. I was thinking I would be the only one on the big articulated bus but there were three of the regular others riding it. I guess I’m not the only one working the grave yard before the holiday weekend.
I am looking forward to heading up to the Adirondacks this weekend. I’m increasingly thinking about Moxham Mountain for Friday. I might then camp at Vanderwhacker River but that’s to be decided. That is a great wild area, but I also don’t want to get too far away from NY 28 and risk things icing up by morning. I do like the campsite tucked right over NY 28 on Boreas River though, but it might be taken for the holiday weekend. Also considering exploring the Essex Chain of Lakes, assuming there is no snow up there. NY 8 always a good fall back
Still trying to figure out why my LED isn’t working right. I added a 330 ohm resistor from the Arduino to the transistor but that’s still not working right. I guess I can test with a bigger resistor. I need to replace the battery in my volt meter and a fuse so I can test the amperage being drawn. I blew the fuse for the amp meter part doing stupid shit with it years ago. You really should know what you are doing before playing with electricity. I need to get a soldering iron though to replace that 10 amp fuse, as it’s soldered into place. I also need to get alligator clips so I can securely testing such things.
Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until State of the State Day when the sun will be setting at 4:35 pm with dusk at 5:06 pm. On that day in 2017, we had rain, drizzle, freezing drizzle, mist, cloudy skies and temperatures between 37 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 61 back in 1913. That really is in the meat of winter.Β
