So many deer flies πͺ°
That was my reaction setting up camp at House Pond Campsite. Plus the fire pit was a mess – somebody tried to burn an old laptop or a flat screen television there and didn’t clean up the detritus. The whole fire pit was overly full of ash. Cleaned it up!
Hot and buggy setting up camp. βΊ As usually is the case got better as the night progressed and the temperature and humidity dropped. The number of deer flies and now quickly my body got covered with welts from the bites wasn’t fun. π¦ΆParticularly how the deer flies kept biting my pinky toe through the hammock screen.
As evening approached, things got better πͺ°with fewer deer fly and I went for a swim in the swimming hole next to the House Pond Campsite. Discovered another hole in the tube β while inflating it, patched it this morning. Had a small fire π₯ to burn off the camp trash and other burnable deteris I found around the campsite. Really still too hot for a fire – didn’t bother the previous night but my trash bucket was full of paper plates and other burnables. I now use regular silverware – same I use at home because the plastic got expensive and it seems like such a waste to use them once and toss in the fire.
Yesterday I swam and laid on the beach π at Lake Pleasant at noon time. The morning was quite pleasant but like most of the trip with the humidity and heat came the haze then the clouds. But no rain π₯οΈas was threatened. I am surprised how low the East Canada Creek is today. That said the road is in good shape having been a wet spring and not washboarded but I’m sure a lot is due to the town highway departments and the DEC.
This morning it was carrot π₯ pancakes. The mini food processor works great on the inverter for grinding the carrots, flax seed and oatmeal. Good hardy breakfast π₯, which I topped with sugar free maple π syrup. I prefer the real stuff but I’ve noticed I have less gum inflammation when I stay away from the sugar though especially with meals with beans π« can make me kind of gassy. π²
