October 30, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Two weeks to Average Night Below Freezing 🌌. Wet globby snow showers and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ There is a north breeze at 9 mph. πŸƒ. There is a inch of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 6 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

First morning of the year – well the season waking up to snow. ❄ Landlord didn’t need to plow the driveway or anything like that but it’s still a bit of a winter wonderland outside. Roads are just wet, I don’t think they applied salt locally. More slop than anything else.

I decided with the rain and drizzle and cold weather 🌧 to stay in town this weekend. I think it’s going to stay in town this weekend – everything in the woods is going to be wet and muddy and I don’t want to get my truck covered in salt and mud. ❄ Next weekend looks much nicer and I can probably get out in the woods without my phone πŸ“± ringing every two minutes for work.

This morning it sure was hard to get out of bed, πŸ› I did not sleep well. It also was a cold and damp morning and it doesn’t help that I don’t have the heat on yet. ♨ But then again, I plan to work from home 🏑 so I didn’t need to get a really early start. Next week I’ll be working downtown 🏒 but at least with the time change I won’t have to get such an early start.

Today will have a chance of rain and snow before noon, then a chance of rain. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny 🌧, with a high of 40 degrees at 2pm. 14 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 4th. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 1946. 0.1 inches of snow fell back in 1925.❄

Definitely a dreary start to the morning. β›„ But the snow is kind of pretty if you can say that about snow. I’m kind of tired though of the cold and the rust belt which really lasts more than half the year. It’s just so cold and dark in these northerly climates. And working from home feels so cooped up. At least downtown it’s a change.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:40 pm with sun having an altitude of 33.4Β° from the due south horizon (-37.4Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Shadows are growing long. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 5:12 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (245Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (252Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:52 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 3 seconds with dusk around 6:19 pm, which is one minute and 21 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full 🌝 Moon in the east (85Β°) at an altitude of 6Β° from the horizon, 252,270 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:54 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 36 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 19 degrees at 5am. 16 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 21st. Light north wind. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1988.

I don’t mind winter camping in the cold weather ❄ but this is obnoxiously cold for winter. I might actually need to turn on the heat before bed if it’s going to be that cold. Probably in Brookfield it will only be in the single digits.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 46 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 20th. Calm wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 2019. 0.1 inches of snow fell back in 1913.❄

Tomorrow sounds pretty nice but I expect to be pretty busy with work 🐸 but I might find time to get to Five Rivers in the afternoon. Extra hour of sleep tomorrow night with the time change πŸ•’ which is good because I’m kind of feeling shitty today πŸ•’ as I didn’t sleep well last night. I have a lot of trouble sleeping in the winter months. I try to aggressively limit my blue light exposure but there is only so much I can do. I shouldn’t be listening πŸ‘‚πŸ» to the BBC at night, it’s really depressing with all the politics.

Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, β˜€ with a high near 52. South wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Typical average high for the weekend is 54 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average Night Below Freezing 🌌 when the sun will be setting at 4:34 pm with dusk at 5:04 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had cold weather, mostly sunny and temperatures between 26 and 14 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 49 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964.
