July 14, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly sunny and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 62 degrees. With the lower dew point and the sun it’s a pretty nice morning.

I made a pot of coffee โ˜• in percolator and then cooled it in the sink and put it in the freezer to make it cold. While not super hot today, I kind of prefer my coffee cold this time of year. On iced coffee per se with all the sugar but still cold and refreshing with milk ๐Ÿฎ is always good.

Today will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 81 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 10th. Maximum dew point of 64 at 10am. Cooler but still really muggy. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1995.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 69ยฐ from the due south horizon (-1.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. While it can be real hot for six more weeks – or maybe a bit longer – shadows are growing longer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:51 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:33 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 22 seconds with dusk around 9:05 pm, which is 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:50 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 26 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 60 degrees at 4am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 14th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 7pm. Should be decent sleeping ๐Ÿ˜ด by later on which is good as I’ve been up too late lately. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1950.

On this day in 1969, the $500, $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000 bills are officially withdrawn from circulation. ๐Ÿ’ต After this date, if you wanted to buy a large purchase in cash or bribe a politician, you needed a lot of hundred dollars in bills. They had last been printed in 1945, and were finally dropped from circulation in 1969, in part as an effort to reduce corruption and money scams. ๐Ÿ‘” I just remember that time I was walking during lunch and two men were handing off a big stack of hundred ๐Ÿ’ฏ dollar bills ๐Ÿ’ฐin an alleyway. I’m sure they were just buying a car or something and it wasn’t some mid level bureaucrat taking a bribe. Shit doesn’t happen like that in Albany, which is America’s most ethical capital.

Going to be a nice, hot summer weekend. ๐ŸŠ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Maximum dew point of 68 at 8am. Sunday, scattered showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 91. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 69 at 9am. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 16 weeks until Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:45 pm with dusk at 5:14 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 53 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 53 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.
