June 6, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. The early morning rain has cleared and the sun is out. Two weeks until the first day of summer πŸ›. Mostly sunny and 68 degrees at the Perkins Clearing. β˜€ There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 59 degrees.

After the rain showers of the early morning hours β˜” it had cleared out and gotten fairly nice. I think the solar panel is still in a bit of shadow but I expect it to be cranking out the watts again, some which I’ll dump into the starting battery πŸ”‹ so I don’t have to start the truck up today.

As expected I didn’t get a real early start this morning 😴 preferring to sleep in after staying up late yesterday. I did make coffee up β˜• and dipped some cookies πŸͺ in it but that’s not really a breakfast so I should make some eggs or pancakes on up.

Today will have scattered showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11am. Partly sunny 🌦, with a high of 73 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 59 at 9am. Northwest wind 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1925.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.2Β° from the due south horizon (-0.7Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Pretty close to the highest sun angle of the year. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:53 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 29 seconds with dusk around 9:11 pm, which is 41 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:58 pm. I really doesn’t get dark until late this time of year. At sunset, look for possible rain showers 🌧 and thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then isolated showers between midnight and 3am. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 46 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 14th. North wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 53 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1958.

So my parents dog 🐢 Eli passed away. They got him used when I was in college so he was almost fifteen years old when he died. Because of the pandemic I hadn’t seen him since early March but he was getting increasingly elderly and had poor hearing and sight, and was having trouble getting up the stairs. It’s kind of sad how many people and things are passing away quietly while we continue our social distancing. Time keeps marching on but in some ways it doesn’t seem so much with many aspects of our lives in suspension. The Reszin Adam’s documentary with Cynthia Pooler proceeds slowly but it’s increasingly doubtful we’ll ever get to interview her. So many of the old timers are just fading away. πŸ˜”

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until the first day of summer πŸ› when the sun will be setting at 8:42 pm with dusk at 9:17 pm. On that day in 2019, we had humid, mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 79 and 66 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 79 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1953.
