May 12, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Six weeks to Primary Day πŸ—³οΈ. Mostly cloudy and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. πŸƒ with gusts up to 24 mph πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨. Between the wind and clouds kind of a raw morning for mid May. The skies will clear around 9 am. Maybe there is hope byt this morning is tough to get started.

Not a real great morning, I decided to skip morning walk 🚢 and just have breakfast 🍳 after running to the store for milk. In a little bit I’m going to run down to the library and work down there. Maybe later in the afternoon I’ll work at Five Rivers if it’s nice. I’m a bit discouraged after driving out Five Rivers and a thunderstorm came rolling through right around 5 pm when I normally clock out πŸ•’ and go for my walk around the preserve.

Today is pay day which is good. πŸ’΅ Always nice to see the money hit my bank account. Still haven’t gotten my stimulus check but it’s coming less than two weeks. This pay period I’m increasing my biweekly market investments by $100 and decreasing my biweekly saving account investment by the same amount as I think it’s a good time to get more stocks and bonds whik to their cheap. Yes timing the market is dangerous but its a relatively small change compared to existing investments. I’m not planning on using the money for some time to buy my off grid cabin 🏑 so I expect the market to recover in 5-10 years.

Today will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 52 degrees at 3pm. 16 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 2nd. Northwest wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. A year ago, we had light rain. The high last year was 51 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1881. There was a dusting of snow in 1996.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 65.7Β° from the due south horizon (-5.2Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 7:28 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (290Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-northwest (296Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:08 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 13 seconds with dusk around 8:40 pm, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:21 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 44 degrees. Breezy, 16 mph breeze β›… from the west-northwest with gusts up to 28mph. Today will have 14 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 10 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have areas of frost after 1am. Otherwise, partly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 32 degrees at 4am. 14 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 2nd. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph becoming light west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 42 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 2005.

Yesterday I fixed the plug πŸ”Œ on my laptop charger I fixed a while back with a fuse that was too small, blew and ended up temporarily fixing using aluminum foil. The foil started to melt and get hot so I wrapped it with more foil. πŸ’» I only really use it when I’m nearby and it’s low voltage so I’m not worried about a fire πŸ”₯.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. πŸ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 53 at 1pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees.

Honestly, I’m inclined to stay in town this weekend again 🏑 and just do things closer to home like a nice day hike come Saturday. Friday night looks rainy and wet and Saturday may have showers. Much nicer weather seems possible though come the end of the month. Hopefully not too hot though if I’m still working from home.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until Primary Day πŸ—³οΈ when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 84 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1888.

I do want to get an absentee ballot. βœ‰ I though the board was going to send a prepaid envelope to me to do that form. I guess you can do it online. I expect much fewer Polling Places this year with the pandemic and I’m not crazy about trying to vote ❎ with a face mask on and not being able to see the ballot well.
