May 9, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! It’s a frigid morning for nearly mid May. Next Saturday is Average High is 70 🐮. Just a friendly reminder. Sunny and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☀ Breezy, ️18 mph breeze from the west-northwest 🌬 with gusts up to 29 mph 💨💨💨. The current wind chill is 20.

That wind is really whipping around. 💪I am a bit stiff and sore from the Lyme again. I was feeling great yesterday but not as much now. Maybe it’s the story of the weather. 🐜 That said with all the bright 🔆 sun I’m thinking about going for a walk down to the Normans Kill Gorge. We will see – it’s kind of cold out. 🍃

I also want to work on the blog some more, 📝 do some electronics projects and cleaning. Kitchen kind of got dirty this time weekend – I think when I was half awake from the Lyme I spilled coffee in a few places plus I need to do good cleaning after going camping last weekend. 🚿

I ordered a $20 including tax pint size bottle of 10% Permethrin. ⚠ Stuff is expensive even if you buy it in bulk and dilluted it down 20 to 1 but the premix it is even more expensive on a per spray basis. I was going to dump my clothes in a bucket full of it but not at that price. Instead I’ll use a spray bottle to douse them as many recommend. Much more efficient application. I can even bring a spray bottle to camp and do it whole hung on a line there. 👚 I’m also going to do my hammock. Soaking them might be a bit too much at any rate, and cause allergies. Permethrin isn’t hazardous for human skin contact but it is hazardous to breathe when wet or injection and is very bad news for cats, bees and fish. 😻🐠🐝

Today will have a slight chance of snow showers before 9am, then a slight chance of rain and snow showers between 9am and noon, then a chance of rain showers after noon. Partly sunny 🌦, with a high of 43 degrees at 4pm. 24 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 14th. Breezy, with a west wind 18 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1979. 1.6 inches of snow fell back in 1977.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 64.9° from the due south horizon (-5.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:25 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (289°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (295°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:05 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 8:36 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:16 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and snow 🌨 and temperatures around 39 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 15 mph with gusts up to 26mph. Today will have 14 hours and 25 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 16 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 32 degrees at 5am. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 2nd. West wind 8 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1958.

Hoping next weekend will be nice enough to get out to Schoharie County ⛺ but I’m not holding my breath. Looks like rain ☔ Friday and Sunday. At least it will be closer to normal weather wise next week and I should be able to work outside. I want to order that screen house tent 🎪 either Monday or Tuesday next week. I’m definitely thinking the Coleman model. I don’t see it likely that I’ll camp Memorial Day Weekend but maybe take a long weekend the following week especially if it’s hot and sunny. ☀

As previously noted, next Saturday is Average High is 70 🐮 when the sun will be setting at 8:12 pm with dusk at 8:44 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 69 and 48 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1991.

Spring will arrive
