April 14, 2020 8 AM Update
Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Second gear of the week. Kind of slept in but that’s fine, my commute consists of booting up the work laptop, although I do have to shave and shower and get the lights set up before the morning Zoom meeting. Three weeks to Cinco de Mayo π€ . I do like that Carona beer with a good burrito cooked up at camp. π» I was looking at my photos from 2017, I had a lot of fun that year camping on Cinco de Mayo. Partly cloudy and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a north-northwest breeze at 16 mph. π. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 3 am. βοΈ
Today will be partly sunny π, with a high of 54 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 6th. West wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 12 to 17 mph in the morning. I’m not seeing as much sun with the latest forecast. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1968. 1.4 inches of snow fell back in 1950.β
I was originally thinking about taking my work laptop to Schodack Islands State Park β² and working down there by the river but the weather doesn’t seem real nice so I’ll make the public health folks happy π and save some gas by staying home. β½ I think I have enough food for a few more days if I dig into my freezer and break out the left overs – maybe Corned Beef and Cabbage from Saint Patrick’s Day would be good. π I stlll want to get to Aldi, maybe tomorrow. By then I’ll have better idea of what my plans are for the weekend.
Solar noon π is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 57Β° from the due south horizon (-13.8Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 6:59 pm with the sun in the west (278Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-northwest (284Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:37 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 8:05 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. π The best time to look at the stars is after 8:41 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies π and temperatures around 48 degrees. There will be a northeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have isolated showers between 2am and 3am. Mostly cloudy π§, with a low of 32 degrees at 5am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 2nd. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had light rain. It got down to 41 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1940. I don’t think tonight will be as nice as last night.
Cool but sunny this weekend. π Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 53. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 57. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 60 degrees.
I am thinking about camping βΊ this weekend but away from the crowds. Maybe some hiking and fishing too. π£ I need to renew my license, I guess I can do it online. We will see. It would be nice to get away for at least two nights. That’s about as long as we will have a decent stretch of weather for now. Past few April’s have been pretty darn cold.
As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Cinco de Mayo π€ when the sun will be setting at 8:00 pm with dusk at 8:31 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 58 and 52 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.
