February 24, 2020 Morning
Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Off to work on this sunny and pleasant Monday morning. Maybe not warm enough to open the windows but I doubt the heat is working much. Next Monday is Read Across America Day 📚. It just needs to be nice enough to go down to the park.
Mostly sunny and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There is no snow on the ground. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 6 pm. β I approve of this even in Trump’s America.
Listening to Switched on Bach on the way to work today. 🎶 So futuristic. That album will never get old. Too bad that Wendy Carlos won’t allow it on the YouTube. Many people don’t realize that the Moog corporation is headquarted in Buffalo, New York. 🐃 Buffalo is kind of a rough industrial 🏭 city.
Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 56 degrees at 3pm. 19 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 10th. South wind 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had light drizzle in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 2017. 8 inches of snow fell back in 1962.β
Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.8Β° from the due south horizon (-33Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 5:00 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (251Β°). 📸
The sunset is in the west-southwest (258Β°) starting at 5:36 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 6:06 pm, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 Might be a good evening to take pictures. 📷 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon in the west-southwest (253Β°) at an altitude of 7Β° from the horizon, 251,903 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 6:40 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 51 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 58 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 33 degrees at 6am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 3rd. Light and variable wind. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of -14 occurred back in 1914.
Cool to kick off March with temperatures running 10 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. π Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 29. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 28. Typical average high for the weekend is 38 degrees. Honestly, it should be a nice weekend and most of the snow will be killed off by the rain this week. But maybe not in the higher elevations?β
Looking forward to getting through February this week and March starting Saturday. 🌸 Saturday is March 1st. A week from Saturday is the time change. Some years I get out camping in March, a lot depends on the weather and how long the snow sticks around especially in the higher elevation. I don’t see a lot more snow in the future 🔮 but who knows how long winter will last.
🌹🌻🌼Only 24 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼
As previously noted, next Monday is Read Across America Day 📚 when the sun will be setting at 5:46 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. On that day in 2019, we had snow showers, cloudy and temperatures between 37 and 25 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 65 back in 1991.
