February 12, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Soon to be Snowy and Icy Tuesday. Next Tuesday is 5:30 PM Sunset 🌆. Clouds, cold and 16 degrees in Delmar. ❄ There is a north-northeast breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 8 am. 🌡️ No snow yet, but cold enough I turned the heat up last night and left it up today lest I lose power with the ice tonight.

Today will snow before 4pm, then snow and sleet. The snow could be heavy at times. 🌨 High of 23 degrees at 6pm. 10 degrees below normal. North wind 6 to 8 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible. I think it’s going to be really shitty by this evenings commute. Hopefully I won’t have to stay too late tonight at work but who knows, things are pretty busy these days. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 1932. 13.5 inches of snow fell back in 1988.❄

The sun will set at 5:23 pm with dusk around 5:52 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for sleet and temperatures around 22 degrees. It will be a slip slidingly bad commute. I wore my big warm hunting boots as I don’t want to destroy my nearly brand new dress shoes coming home from work, waiting and wandering over to the bus in the slop. There will be a east breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 38 seconds over yesterday. By a month, it will be 11 hours and 45 minutes minutes of daylight.

Tonight will be freezing rain and sleet before 2am, then sleet between 2am and 5am, then snow and sleet likely after 5am.💦 Low of 23 degrees at 6pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around March 11th. East wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of around a 1/10th of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 15 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1875.

Tomorrow will rain and snow showers likely before 3pm, then scattered snow showers. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 41 degrees at 12pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 7th. Breezy, with a west wind 6 to 11 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 58 was set in 1900. 9 inches of snow fell back in 1893. A few years before my time.❄

I got home around eight last night and then after changing out of my suit I went for my evening walk. Not a bad walk but with the cold winter breeze from the north it definitely was a preview of the winter weather to come. 💨 I like winter but I sure am getting tired of it. At least now it seems like by the second half of the week it will be quite a bit warmer.

I took a sleeping pill shortly after getting home and made sure to keep the lights dimmed after my walk. Between that and the gentle reminder of the lights dimming at 10:10 pm I was able to get a long winters nap in last night. 💤 I did though wake up for a while in early hours of the morning and turned up the heat because I was cold, by regardless I’m trying to do my best to improve my sleep. I just find it so hard to sleep during the month of February.

Monday was only reasonably busy at work, but maybe it’s because I’ve gotten better at juggling things. 📤The goal is to drop the ball on fewer things every day. And just keep plugging along, making money, saving and investing.💰 My trip out to the Heldebergs reminded me what ultimately the prize is and where I can be in 10-20 years if I keep my best up. I don’t have to be trapped in consumeristic asuburbia forever.🐮

With the snow and ice coming today, I wore my boots to work and left the heat turned up the in case we lose power due to ice later on. Maybe the severe weather will mean that I can go home earlier on. 👢Regardless it will mean by the time I get home things will be nice and comfortable and I won’t have to wait for the heat to catch up.❄ Not that I really do turn it up that much when I’m home except when I get chilled through. But I’m home so rarely these days. 🏡

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. πŸ˜• Saturday, a chance of snow showers before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 32. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees.

I still would like to get out for at least one night during President’s Weekend but it’s a wait and see approach. β›Ί I’m not really sure how nice the weekend ultimately will work out to be or what the snow and ice will be once today’s storm concludes. I’m not going to spend a lot of money to camp in frigid conditions on a cloudy day when I can at home and working on projects there.

In four weeks on March 12 the sun will be setting at 6:58 pm (Daylight Savings Time),🌄 which is one hour, 34 minutes and 47 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 39 and 24 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 43 and 24 degrees. The record high of 69 degrees was set back in 2012.

I am looking forward to nicer weather come March. 🌱 I know we will probably have some snow but also some really nice weather to boot. β›„ Or so I hope. Early spring still points to being cold by NOAA models but the Ground Hog disagreed. Late spring into summer might be hot but that’s fine as I work long days and the potholers will keep me cold in the Adirondack.

Looking ahead, 5:30 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 1 weeks, Mothers Day 👩‍ is in 3 months, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM 🌆 is in 22 weeks, Last Sunset After 8 PM 🌆 is in 6 months and Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in 90 weeks.

Try to enjoy the snow and ice the best you can. It won’t last forever…. Or so I tell myself. ❄
