September 30, 2018 Evening
Good evening! Cloudy and 58 degrees in North Syracuse. β Calm wind. The dew point is 50 degrees. We don’t expect to see much sun in the Syracuse area until Wednesday around 10 am.
Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly after 11pm. Cloudy β, with a low of 51 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 52 at 2am. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2017, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1993.
Last night I went for a nice little walk along Onondoga Lake around sunset. 🏞 It was a nice walk back there. The sunset over the lake was quite pretty.🌇 In contrast, today was pretty dark and rainy. But the sunset over the lake before the shitty weather was wonderful.
With the clouds being so threatening and even a few rain drops coming down, 💦 I decided to instead go into the office early this morning, get some work done, and then go for a walk down South Bay Road to Sweatheart Corners and back up Main Street. 🏃South Bay Road is really straight and boring. It lacks sidewalks but makes up for it with wide shoulders. Maybe it’s not as nice as Green Lakes but time was limited and the sky threatened to open up and pour any minute. Fortunately heavy rain today was as rare as the blue skies. I only got a little wet heading back to the office.
Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon 🌖 with 63% illuminated with the moon rising at 10:22 pm. The moon will set at 1:33 pm. The Last Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with mostly cloudy skies. The Hunter Moon 🌝 is on Tuesday, October 23rd. The sun will rise at 7:01 am with the first light at 6:33 am, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 12 hours and 16 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over last night.
Tomorrow will have showers likely. Cloudy β, with a high of 57 degrees at 4pm. Eight degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 53 at 1pm. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light drizzle in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1927. There was a dusting of snow in 1946.β
The long range doesn’t look that great for the Columbus Day Weekend weekend. Major bummer! :(:( Next Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Maximum dew point of 61 at 4pm. Next Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 60 at 2pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 64 degrees.
I don’t have a lot of plans for the Columbus Day Weekend besides working, although I’m thinking about taking a half day on Friday to hike down at Jones Hill 🍂and watch the sun set, assuming that the weather looks good. Could be a really nice evening, although morning hikes there are often nice with the sun illuminating the land.
Yesterday I felt pretty sick in the evening, the kind that involves stomach pain running to the bathroom from time to time. 💩 I think the problem was that I eat a lot of oatmeal after drinking a few beers and Limp Lizard the day before and sometimes oatmeal can give me problems. Don’t get me wrong I like oatmeal and all those other things but oatmeal at time can be rough. I didn’t have any issues today and I eat more oatmeal – I think it’s the massive increase in fiber after sometimes not eating enough despite eating bran cereal. It’s tough eat healthy on the road when all you have is a microwave and refrigerator, no freezer. You end up eating a lot canned stuff. I avoid takeout as much as possible as I’m always trying to save money so I can invest in my future and because I hate all that packaging you have to send to the landfill.
I am glad that I have sound back and my headphones are working well with the laptop and the USB-to-Audio DAC. 🎧 I tried a better set of headphones with it and the sound quality is pretty good. I haven’t tried it in Windows, but I assume it should work out of the box. It’s not like a regularly — or even ever boot windows, because I can do everything that I need in Linux. Everytime I open Windows it’s trying to sell me stuff β¬– like anti-virus protection or additional software but because I don’t ever use it I don’t really need those kind of things. All of it is free to use in Linux, which is always nice.
I checked the current draw of the DAC, and it was below the threshold of the meter at under 10 mA so it’s impact on the laptop battery 🔋 is basically none. I like the device a lot, I wish I knew about them before. I plan to buy more so I always have one handy.
In four weeks on October 28 the sun will be setting at 6:01 pm,🌄 which is 45 minutes and 32 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had patches of fog, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 67 and 37 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 55 and 36 degrees. The record high of 78 degrees was set back in 1971.
Looking ahead, Daylight Savings Time Ends 🛥οΈ is in 5 weeks, Veterans Day (Sunday) 🇺🇸 is in 6 weeks and First Sunday of Advent βοΈ is in 9 weeks.
