August 27, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Next Monday is Labor Day πŸ‘¨β€πŸ. How fast summer comes to an end. Maybe the muggy weather will follow. Partly sunny and 75 degrees in Albany. Calm wind. The dew point is 67 degrees. πŸ˜“ Already getting muggy and hot just waiting for the bus! And the muggers will be with us all week. The muggy weather ends Friday around 3 am.

Taking the local yokel bus to work 🚌 because I camped over at my parents house and I knew that I wouldn’t have had time to walk down to the express. Tomorrow if it’s not too ungodly hot I will walk down to the express. It’s a much more pleasant ride, assuming that there are no fights breaking out between motorists in the South Mall Arterial in the traffic lanes.😑

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞 , with a high of 86 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 4pm. Yuck. At least my office is air conditioned but I think I will close the blinds when I get in the office. Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 75 degrees. A very much nicer day then today. The record high of 97 was set in 1948.

Back to work. It was a nice weekend at Pisceo Powley Road although I wish I had more sun to enjoy and that I could have camp at Powley Place. β›ΊMaybe this autumn before the big game hunting season gets underway and seasonal hunters set up their camp for the season.🦌 I’ll be happy shooting things that are small enough that I can cut up on my table at camp. I do need to get my hunting license though, maybe this week.🎫

The sun will set at 7:37 pm with dusk around 8:06 pm, which is one minute and 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies and 82 degrees. The dew point will be 71 degrees. The heat index around sunset will be 76. β›± There will be a south-southwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 21 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ☁, with a low of 72 degrees at 3am. 14 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 71 at 7pm. South wind 5 to 8 mph. In 2017, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1982.

Today in 1859, Petroleum is discovered in Titusville, Pennsylvania leading to the world’s first commercially successful oil well. β›½To this day, that town still smells like petroleum, and it floats as a shiny residue in the creeks, but they produce much less oil today then at the peak around the turn of the century.πŸ›’Β Yeah, Edward Drake for powering our cars and heating our planet.

Speaking of oil, I am going to call the General up about getting the oil changed in Big Red. I have a coupon for a $50 synthetic oil change and tire rotation and I can’t but good quality synthetic oil and a filter for that price and do it at home.🚘 Its those damn one quart bottles of synthetic oil – the five quarts are like $30 and the final quart is always $10 plus throw in $10 for a good filter and paper towels.πŸ’° You see where this is going. At least I only change the oil every ten months or so, and I’m actually doing it early because I want to get it done before I’m traveling for work.🏎

Still hoping to get up to Moose River Plains for the Memorial Day Weekend. β›Ί Weather forecast has improved lately. We will see, there looks like there is instability in the upper atmosphere in the long range.Β My big thing is I want Saturday to be nice, so I can paddle the Cedar River Flow 🚣 then Sunday hang out up in the Plains, watching the sun set at Helldiver Pond with the others looking for Herald the Helldiver Moose.🦌 I don’t care about them moose, as I doubt he will show his face,Β  but the sunsets are nice. Maybe go for a paddle on Helldiver too and see how many useless small bullheads I can catch in that pond.🎣 And watch the stars from the sandy plains, on hopefully clear nights with the waning moon not rising to early hours of morning.🌌

As previously noted, next Monday is Labor Day πŸ‘¨β€πŸ when the sun will be setting at 7:25 pm with dusk at 7:54 pm. On that day in 2017, we had rain, drizzle, heavy fog, shallow fog, patches of fog, mist, cloudy skies and temperatures between 58 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 100 back in 1953.
