Yeah.

The General fixed my truck’s leaky windshield wiper reservoir and preformed the transmission recall. No charge. Nice.

What Is American Power?

A fascinating series of photos looking at electricity generation, energy production, and communities that it effects.

Chilly Wednesday Evening.

A Chilly Wednesday Evening. Today was mostly not pouring, but still pretty cold and wet for most of the day. In the afternoon, downright blustery. It could be snow, but I think we are beyond that point now, and it seems like most mornings now are warm enough to leave the windows open.

Still much too cold out tonight. But there isn’t much one can do about that, although I can say the cold weather can’t last much longer.

Like is almost always the case, raced out to the bus stop this morning, although fortunately the bus was plenty late, so I had a few minutes at the bus stop, despite the traffic lights not really cooperating with me as I tried to cross the street. I’ve gotten to like the Route 719 – it’s so nice not having to deal with the local bus in the morning. I’ve gotten to the point where I try to avoid taking the Route 18 local whenever possible.

With the rain and warmer temperatures the grass is starting to green up. That said, the trees and foliage are much behind recent years for springtime foliage. This springtime was cold, an unusual thing for recent years. At some point though, winter must succumb to the greater sun angles, and spring must occur once again.

TomorrowΒ Taking Big Red to Shop to Fix Windshield Washer Leak.Β They think it will be ready by the afternoon. There apparently is also another recall on the transmission for a part that they have to fix. I just go to have the truck back by the weekend, so I can take my trapper class. They said at the shop they expected to have both things fixed on Thursday. I hope so.

1.6 million Americans don’t have indoor plumbing. Here’s where they live.

Actually, the data in this article under-represents that number of people without indoor plumbing, as the map only shows data on the county level versus the census blockgroup level.

That said, the merits of indoor plumbing vs composting toilets that are properly maintained in rural areas. Certainly indoor plumbing wastes lots of water, that takes a lot of energy to pump around and then clean and dispose of.

Happy Earth Day.

Good Evening! Happy Earth Day. The week is moving along well, although Monday was crazy. Today wasn’t so bad. Still a lot of stuff to do.

I finished up my trapper study-at-home class portion, so it’s ready for Saturday. The class is at 8 AM, which is much too early down in Hudson, but I guess I will just set my alarm clock early and go to bed at a reasonable hour on Friday evening. Got to get some hip waders before the class, as we’re going to be out in the muck, especially after the rain.

Most of the day was cloudy, although the rain is now picking up. It’s good to have rain though, as April showers bring May flowers – and reduce the fire danger – even if most fires outside of campfires are now are illegal in NY State. Between that and SAFE Act and people’s generally stuck up attitudes… well, make up your own mind.

Earth Day today, although it doesn’t seem to be that big of a holiday this year. As with most days, I rode the bus to work, as I don’t like driving my big truck in the city. I also reused an old plastic milk bottle for purposes of making ice for the next time I am camping. I now have 4 gallons of ice frozen in my freezer plus 2 half gallons of ice frozen. That should both save energy in the freezer and keep my food cold when camping.
