There is a gate 1/2 mile from Mallet Pond. Normally I don't like gates and keeping the public from driving down to their lands, but Mallet Pond is kind of nice being so remote for camping, fishing, or wild life observation. Rossman Pond, which you can drive right up to, has no such gate.

There isn't a lot of these signs, but if you search around, you will see the State Forest signs around, along with the yellow boundary markers.

This campsite on the pond is not right on the lake (which is good thing from an environmental perspective), but still offers close access. You can drive right up to it, which makes me happy, being that I prefer truck camping.

There are a series of hunting campings and private houses located along the other shore. The state only owns about 1000 feet of frontage along the lake, basically enough for a campsite and a parking area.

There really is not a lot of road signs up here, just lots of unmarked rough dirt roads, with big posted signs along them to discourage the non-locals from coming up here and exploring.

It's pretty small when you think of it being only 2,584 acres, but maybe because it's next to a 12,000 acre forest or in comparison to the 50,000 or 100,000 acre wild forests and wilderness of the Adirondacks.
