Monroe County

Monroe County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2010 census, the population was 744,344.[1] It is named after James Monroe, fifth President of the United States of America. Its county seat is the city of Rochester.

Monroe County is in the northern tier of western New York State, northeast of Buffalo and northwest of Syracuse. The northern county line is also the state line and the border of the United States, marked by Lake Ontario. Monroe County is north of the Finger Lakes.

People bemoan that there are no Wegmans in the eastern half of New York State, but the reality is there isn't a lot of Wegmans outside of Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse regions. Almost half of the Wegmans are in other states, primarily southeastern Pennsylvania and northern Maryland, and a few in eastern Massachusetts.
