Delaware Plaza

February 20, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Today 5:30 PM Sunset 🌆. Cloudy and 23 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. ☁ Maybe a few breaks or sun to the south. There is a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Cold the next few days. Things will start to thaw out at Saturday around 10 am. 🌡️

Taking a hybrid bus 🚍 in today on Delmar Bypass. The hybrids are nice on the expressway, the regen means they brake very smoothly at the red-lights. 🚦 Other than that pretty gray, a bunch of bomb trains at the port 💣. Commercial truck check point on Elm Avenue by the park 🚚, they usually do that once a month. Traffic is a bit backed up going through the plaza which is unusual as it’s not a session day. I am not concerned, I have plenty of time to clock in on time. 🕒 Yesterday, I actually made it in time but I had to run in an I clocked in only by seconds. Salary vs hourly has it advantages and disadvantages. I do like having my evenings back.

Today will have a slight chance of snow showers before 10am. Partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 28 degrees at 2pm. Eight degrees below normal. Northwest wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 28 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 1930. 11.2 inches of snow fell back in 1977.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 36.3Β° from the due south horizon (-34.5Β° vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 4:54 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (249Β°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (256Β°) starting at 5:30 pm and lasts for 3 minutes with dusk around 6:01 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 6:35 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 24 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 13. β˜ƒοΈ There will be a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 47 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 45 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 9 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 3 at 3am; Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph. In 2019, we had light snow in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 2015.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 39. West wind 6 to 9 mph. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 47. Typical average high for the weekend is 36 degrees. I get should help melt away a lot of the snow. I think we are good for at least one more snow storm come March.

Regardless, I think it should be a nice weekend for the Pine Bush Hike. 🚶 And one week closer to spring. 🌸 Only a month until the calendar says spring although we all know the winter weather can stick around for several weeks longer, especially up north. Sunday I might go skiing 🎿 if the snow ain’t too sloppy.

🌹🌻🌼Only 28 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

One month 📅 from now will be Spring 🌷 when the sun will be setting at 7:08 pm with dusk at 7:36 pm (Daylight Savings Time). The average high temperature is 32 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.

Friends Of Bramley Mountain Fire Tower

Friends Of Bramley Mountain Fire Tower

The newly formed Friends of the Bramley Mountain Fire Tower group held its first meeting on the evening of January 6th at the O’Connor Hospital in Delhi. The Friends were formed to organize the reconstruction of the fire tower that was decommissioned by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in 1970 and removed in 1975. The tower was purchased by Pete Clark, who meticulously stored the tower’s parts right down to the nuts and bolts in his barn. It is well preserved as a result. Three years ago Tom Clark, the current owner, approached the Catskill Mountain Club with an offer to allow the tower to be restored if the CMC could lead the effort. With the formation of the Friends group, the effort to raise funds and complete the resurrection of the tower has officially begun.

In 2008 the NYC Department of Environmental Protection acquired the Bramley Mountain parcel and in 2016 the DEP allowed the Catskill Mountain Club to build a trail to the summit. The trail has been very popular with the public, drawing over 1500 hikers a year, some of them from as far away as Europe and Africa. Now, with the support and cooperation of the Town of Delhi and of the DEP as well as widespread support in Bovina, Hamden, Kortright, Andes and other local communities, the CMC has formed the Friends of the Bramley Mountain Fire Tower to move the project to completion.
