Map: Albert J. Woodford Memorial State Forest

The Albert J. Woodford Memorial Forest contains 2,664 acres, and as with most state forests, the majority of this land was pasture and cropland at one time. Tassel Hill, located in the northern portion of the property, is the point of highest elevation in Oneida County. The Chittning Pond Fishing Access Site is a popular area for fishermen of all levels. Warm water species such as bass and sunfish are known to inhabit this pond. There is a gravel hand launch located in the southwest corner of Chittning Pond.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Next Thursday is the Hunter’s Moon. Crisp and clear this morning, around 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 10 mph. The dew point is 54 degrees.

Much nicer then that hot and humid weather of recent days. I can finally get around to doing all the things I’ve been putting off lately due to the heat and humidity, namely washing dishes and putting the remaining camping gear away back in the closet. That fresh air feels great, I have my wonderful Carhartt vest on it feels like autumn — even if it is still a bit above normal for late September. We might even have a a warm up for next week. Wouldn’t that be wild? It’s the summer that never ends, because it really didn”t get hot out until September. But alas, October usually is much cooler. 90 degree days are almost unheard of in October when the norm is the low 60s and 50s.

Today will be sunny, with a high of 71 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 54 at 8am. Northwest wind 10 to 14 mph. The breeze by evening might make it feel a bit chilly, but for now with the sun, it’s quite nice. A year ago, we had mostly cloudy skies with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 70 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 2014.

The sun will set at 6:40 pm with dusk around 7:08 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for clear conditions and 67 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 11 mph. Might even feel a bit chilly this evening. Today will have 11 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph. In 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 2000.

I went down to the library last night to return my library books and then to Walmart to buy headphones to replace the ones that were broke. I guess this means I’ll have more speaker wire to tie the wallet to my pants. Hey, it works. I also needed vegetable oil so I wouldn’t run out for with the waffles. Bought some frozen fruit too, because the fresh fruit is starting to get more expensive as winter approaches. I did go to the farmers market yesterday and got sweet corn, peppers and mushrooms because that isn’t expected to avaliable that much longer.

I didn’t quite make the express bus, but I guess I could have as the bus was running like 10 minutes late. But that’s fine, as while I was waiting for the local, I dicovered my shirt had a rip in it, so I had to head home and change the shirt. I knew I had this shirt with the hole that I wore for camping but I don’t know how it got back on the rack. I’m glad that I stayed late at work last night but I wish I had gotten an earlier start but it was not to be.

I was reading about the complete streets proposal for Delaware Avenue at the library and that the public hearing was on Wednesday evening so I missed it. I was a bit curious about the crowd at Town Hall the previous night. I don’t really care that much about such things as don’t expect to live in New York that much longer, and certainly not past my retirement in another 20 or 25 years. I guess that the Complete Streets proposal would make much nicer when I walk down to the grocery store or dentist from the bus. That said I really have zero interest in suburban politics. I do however like how 22lr ammo is now back on the shelves of Walmart. And the markets keep growing and so do my investments.

Nine days from now I will be on my way to West Virginia. It should be a nice trip. The first night I will probably overnight in Pennsylvania, maybe the County Bridge Campground outside of Mansfield then drive south to Camp Run in Fort Seybert then maybe the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia or some other locations in West Virginia. I’m still deciding on where exactly I will go.

As previously noted, next Thursday is Hunter’s Moon when the sun will be setting at 6:28 pm with dusk at 6:56 pm. On that day in 2016, we had heavy fog then mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 72 and 45 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 64 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1941.
