August 25, 2017 – Next Sixteen Weeks

As autumn approaches, we are seeing the days get shorter and the temperature starting to drop. This only accelerates as the first day of autumn grows nearer, as September rolls around next Friday and Labor Day is nye.ย But I like autumn with all the colors and change.ย Summer can’t last forever!

Autumn continues...

August 25, 2017 Evening

Happy Weekend! Partly sunny and 73 degrees in City of Albany. There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. The dew point is 50 degrees. It feels more like autumn then summer here in the city, and it will be even colder up north. Quiet weekend on tap at Piseco Powley Road, maybe some hiking and fishing.

The sun will set at 7:40 pm with dusk around 8:09 pm, which is one minute and 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly clear conditions and 68 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Summer is really winding down quickly. A change is going to come.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 4am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low of 51 degrees at 4am. 10 degrees below normal. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies. It was very sticky. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 40 occurred back in 1942.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon with 30% illuminated, setting at 10:30 pm. The moon will rise tomorrow at 12:16 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Monday night with partly cloudy skies. The Harvest Moon is on Tuesday, September 5th. The sun will rise at 6:13 am with the first light at 5:44 am, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. Tonight will have 10 hours and 34 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high of 74 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 50 at 8am. Light north wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. It became very sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1948.

Looking ahead to Sunday, patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 76. Calm wind. Maximum dew point of 52 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 79 degrees.

In four weeks on September 22 the sun will be setting at 6:51 pm, which is 48 minutes and 52 seconds earlier then today. In 2016 on that day, we had mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 82 and 53 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 70 and 49 degrees. The record high of 95 degrees was set back in 1895.

On this day in 1950, President Harry Truman orders the U.S. Army to seize control of the nation’s railroads to avert a strike. So much for the boy from Missouri being a socialist.

Looking ahead, September 1st is Next Friday, Autumn Begins is in 4 weeks, More Night Then Day in Albany is in 1 months and Christmas is in 4 months.

August 25, 2017 – Looking Head this Weekend

This weekend I am heading up to Piseco-Powley Road to enjoy a late summer weekend.ย It doesn’t look like it’s going to be a real warm weekend, feeling more like autumn then late summer. I didn’t pack my kayak (as my paddle) but I will probably go hiking back to Spectacle Lake or maybe Third Lake or Good Luck Lake and shore fishing on Saturday, and maybe hit up the Potholers on Sunday if it’s not too frigid.ย
