April 4, 2017 Evening

Good evening! Rain and 49 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a east-southeast breeze at 9 mph. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.

Catching the 5:55 pm bus home, so I should be able to catch the PBS Newshour when I get home. Looks like it’s going to poor this evening, so I probably won’t walk down to the library but I could still change my mind. I always like the walk.

The sun will set at 7:25 pm with dusk around 7:53 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. At sunset, look for light rain and conditions and 49 degrees. There will be a east-southeast breeze at 8 mph.

Waxing Gibbous Moon tonight with 60% illuminated. The moon will set around 3:24 am. The Full β€œPink” Moon is next Tuesday. The sun will rise at 6:30 am with the first light at 6:01 am, which is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight will have 11 hours and 2 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over last night.

Tonight will rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 10pm, then a chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low of 41 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees above normal. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2016, it got down to 14 degrees under mostly clear skies. The record low of 14 occurred back in 2016.

This weekend is starting to look quite nice for early April. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 50. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 58. Typical average high for the weekend is 55 degrees.

In four weeks on May 2 the sun will be setting at 7:57 pm, which is 31 minutes and 51 seconds later then today. In 2016 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 53 and 44 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 65 and 43 degrees. The record high of 88 degrees was set back in 2001.

Not a terrible day at work but I was fairly busy so time went by quickly. Tomorrow will be a long day but I will be glad once the whole budget ordeal is over and I can get home every day from work early enough to go down to the park.

Looking ahead, Tax Day is in 2 weeks, Average High is 70 is in 6 weeks, Independence Day is in 2 months, Election Day 2018 is in 83 weeks and Election Day 2020 is in 187 weeks.

DEC Region 5 North

Interactive Google Map consisting of federal, state, local, and non-governmental public lands and parks within the following counties in DEC Region 5 North: Clinton, Essex, Franklin and Hamilton counties. Up to 6 additional counties (for a total of ten) can be added to the map. Data can be downloaded as KML and GPX Tracks and Waypoints for use in Google Earth or handheld GPS units.

Updated on March 27, 2017. This region only saw minor updates, with a handful of additional campsites, lean-tos and trails added from the updated DEC data.

Getting Old

The median age of Albany County residents is 37.9 years old. That means in roughly three years, I’ll be older then the majority of residents in the county.

April 4, 2017 9 AM Update

At this point I’m hoping I am done with the heat for the year but only time will tell. It is a bit damp out there this morning but it seems like the rain has stopped or at least let up to a drizzle with temperatures around 47 degrees on our way up to maybe 51. More rain later with more sun expected for Wednesday with temperatures around 57 degrees. Should be very spring like. The best day of the weekend continues to be Sunday with sun and 58 degrees.

Definitely a rather wet morning todayΒ but mild wet mornings like today will ultimately bring spring or so I hope. This snow can’t last forever, it must become awesome torrents of water spinning hydroelectric turbines and overflowing urban sewage treatment plants. The Normans Kill looks like a giant milkshake and the Hudson River looks to be full of shit.

The sun will set at 7:25 pm with dusk around 7:54 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 12 hours and 55 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then a chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low of 42 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees above normal. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2016, it got down to 14 degrees under mostly clear skies. The record low of 14 occurred back in 2016.

I found my headphones that I lost last week under my bed after much searching previous weeks and ultimately buying another pair. I guess I’m set once one of the existing sets broke. I generally just get the $7 Walmart specials which seem not to last a long time even though I use them much too much. I often salvage as much off the broken ones as possible or use them as radio antennas when I use the radio feature with my Bluetooth speaker.

I’ve ordered the wire and ring connections for running the new 8 gauge wire back to truck cap so I have sufficient power back there. I also will use the wire to relocate the inverter so I can permanently mount the low voltage disconnect. I am hoping to get most of the wiring done by this weekend, or at least power back to new switch block in the truck cap.

I don’t know if I will get out camping for Β the Easter Weekend.Β A lot depends on weather and if I have the wiring done and the new battery in the truck. Its possible that I might only go for one night, or maybe leave late on Good Friday, assuming I have Good Friday. And I don’t know how much snow will be left or if things will be really muddy up north. It might be better to wait until things thaw out — and I’m still looking at taking off April 19th through April 23rd, assuming that I can get it off due to the late state budget.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Tax Day when the sun will be setting at 7:41 pm with dusk at 8:11 pm. On that day in 2016, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 78 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 60 degrees. We hit a record high of 90 back in 1976.
