Map: Fawn Lake

Map: Fawn Lake

Fawn Lake is as popular for its sandy beach and easily accessed backcountry campsites as it is for fishing. Wild brook trout can be caught from shore in the spring near deep water areas. Small mouth bass and pickerel are also found here in lesser numbers. Ice fishing is allowed, but tip-ups are prohibited.

The Willard Wildlife Management Area was originally a part of the Willard State Hospital lands used in its farm operations. Farm operations were discontinued in 1963 and the land was transferred to New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for hunting, fishing, and recreational use. This WMA consists of 135 acres of cropland and 23 acres of woodland which borders on Seneca Lake.

The Politics of Nostalgia

Throughout the advanced capitalist world and beyond, a xenophobic, nostalgic nationalism is taking shape. A flock of old and new leaders are rising up, declaring that our best days are behind us and that they are the most qualified to build a better yesterday. Forget about the future, they say, the past is now the place to be — but not everyone is invited.

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Cloudy and 42 degrees in the land of the Delmarian. Sun peaks out occasionally.  There is a south breeze at 5 mph. The skies will clear Wednesday around 4 am.

Today will be mostly cloudy, with a high of 48 degrees at 1pm. 19 degrees above normal. South wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Best chance for sun is later in the afternoon. Rain showers tomorrow morning.  A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies and a high of 32 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 2006. 7.2 inches of snow fell back in 1990.

The sun will set at 4:55 pm with dusk around 5:25 pm, which is 1 minutes and 15 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 9 hours and 37 minutes of daylight, an increase of 1 minute and 58 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 40 degrees at 5am. 23 degrees above normal. Light and variable wind. In 2016, it got down to 12 degrees under partly cloudy skies. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1984.

While today is expected to reach close to fifty, there are 6 weeks until Average High is 40 when the sun will be setting at 5:49 pm with dusk at 6:17 pm. On that day in 2016, we had snow and temperatures between 38 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 40 degrees. We hit a record high of 59 back in 1919.
