I’ve started to dig into CDC death statistics. They make some pretty interesting maps. Suicide statistics are fascinating, especially how suicide is much more common in the western part of the United States and parts of the Bible belt, but rarer in Texas and parts of the deep south. A follow up map will have to look at the rate of firearm suicide versus non-firearm suicides in each county. With the gun debate this would be an interesting one. Then maybe look as the other fatal diseases like lung cancer. Interesting stuff.

On this day in 1969, Warren E. BurgerΒ is sworn in as Chief Justice of theΒ United States Supreme CourtΒ by retiring Chief JusticeΒ Earl Warren. Certainly that was a big change for the country. Times change and sometimes we need a change in the court to balance things out. That said, I’m not crazy about a liberal court chipping away at our Second Amendment rights. The court should expand not decrease freedom. I’m a liberal Democrat, but the Republicans have to Dump Trump somehow, otherwise we are going to have a president by acclimation.
