September 1, 2015 morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. It’s September! As we get our Tuesday underway, we are at 73 degrees with sun and some haze. Going to be a hot one, I’m calling 87Β degrees and somewhat more humid today. At least through Labor Day, it looks like the hot weather is here to stay. Fun way to start out the month of September, sure to retard the fall colors by a couple of weeks. Unlike many Labor Day Weekends – especially one this late – I don’t expect to see a lot of hints of fall colors at Moose River Plains this weekend.

Made it back home from the library, but I did take the bus a few blocks. My ankle was a bit sore, but I think it’s getting better. Each day now I plan to walk a bit farther. Going to try to get some boots that are a bit taller, before doing much more walking. I figure they will give more ankle support. My low-ankle boots are fine in the summer, when there isn’t much mud, but they don’t give much support. I’m ready to be done with the whole sprained ankle thing.

I took Friday off from work, so I can leave in the morning for the NYS Trappers Expo in Herkimer then head up to Moose River Plains, hopefully early enough to get a good site. I think I’ll be able to walk sufficiently for the Trappers Expo, but if I can’t reasonable get around at that point without further injury to my ankle. I’m willing to scrap that. I’d rather get up to Moose River Plains and camp, hang out and shoot guns. I almost wish I could camp closer to Herkimer, so I could down every day of the expo, and see all of the different exhibits. Some really great shows are scheduled through the weekend. They have camping on-site there, but I’d rather be in the wilderness then camping out in some field.

I would like to have a campsite in the plains where there is some privacy, but also plenty of sun to run the solar panel. I’d like to keep the accessory battery fully charged so I can listen to music all weekend long, only occasionally running the truck to keep the starting battery topped off (due to losses from opening car doors lights, primarily). The campsite I get needs to be flat so I don’t damage my ankle, have a place I can shoot safely with a backstop and just wilderness behind it (and a clear path for the target), among other things. I also want to be somewhere I can pick up both NPR radio and weather radio. I will have to buy all my firewood for the weekend, as I won’t be cutting or splinting it with my ankle still bad. I’m really going to continue to take it easy, but at least not be stuck at home in bed, complaining about the heat and wishing my ankle was better.
