Getting Back to the Evening Walk

Lately I have not been going on the evening walk as much as I used to. It’s been hot, and I’ve been lazy. But more to the point, my radio was broken, and I don’t like going for a walk without my radio to keep me company in the evening.

I had thought my radio had beat the dust. I dozen or so times, I had thought about chucking it in a campfire in the woods, and gotten rid of it. But like many times before, I took it back apart, and was able to clean up the contacts enough to get it working again.

I probably should have either fixed my radio sooner or bought a new one. I had previously tried fixing the radio to no luck, but maybe letting it sit for a while, and really scrubbing the contacts did the trick.

Getting back to the evening walk is a good thing. I’ve been doing it occasionally, but not enough, and I can tell I’ve put on some weight over the summer. My jeans are tighter, and I just feel heavier. The stress of the car crash certainly didn’t help.

But now that I have my radio working again, I am more committed to doing the evening walk, every night that it’s not oppressively hot or I’m not out on the town.

Not having a functioning radio seems like a weak excuse for not participating in this healthy activity, however it’s the truth.

It’s a Monday With Still No Big Red Edition

Good Morning! The Work Week Comes Back Around Again. I might actually post my Monday blogpost on Monday, assuming I don’t get too busy at work as usually happens when I first get to work on Mondays. Another week, and I still don’t have my truck back. The sun however was out this morning, and it was a pleasant walk down to the bus at the Park and Ride, as usually is the case.

One thing that is real nice about walking down to the Park and Ride is that bus is always waiting there when I get there. So once I reach my stop, I can sit down on the nice cool bus. Often the bus has to wait 5-6 minutes before it leaves, but that’s fine as I always like to build in an extra five minutes in case I run into delays walking down to the bus stop – like construction, traffic, or forgetting something at home. Wednesday starts construction on Elm Avenue, which makes me think my walk might start becoming much less pleasant if heavy construction is underway.

I really hope I get Big Red back soon. It’s been eight and a half weeks now. I have to go down to Oneonta for work on Thursday, and if I don’t get my truck back, I will have to rent one or make other arrangements to get down there. The last time I heard from the shop, they were working on getting the bed sprayed, so that must mean that repairs almost done. I might even get it back for the weekend. That would be fun. The weekend forecast looks nice.

This past weekend, I was pretty much stuck in town, but I did go for a walk out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center on Saturday. They don’t allow fishing or anything fun out there, but it’s a quiet place out in the woods to sit and read do some reading. Then I walked home, washed off the sweat, made some dinner, and sat out back playing on my phone until 9:30 PM when I fell asleep after having a couple of beers.

I am hopeful I can finally get summer underway after this week, by heading out of town and having a nice weekend camping. But that requires me to get my truck back, and the weather to be nice. Two things we can’t be 100% sure of before the weekend. But I’m hopeful. Hope is the only thing one can have.
