Another rather dreary Saturday ahead 🌧️

After a busy week that went by like a flash, we made it to another maybe not so nice of a weekend. Tomorrow looks better but with a cold, blustery conditions. But then warmer and sunny for the eclipse on Monday, and the same with Tuesday but then rain comes back in for the second half of next week. But things might improve come next weekend. Is that an opportunity to get out out town?

Good morning! Happy Saturday. The weekend has arrived already again. Seemed like the last time I looked it was Easter weekend and I was in the Adirondacks.  🦎 Time goes by so quickly these days. Clouds with rain showers, a damp 36 degrees in Delmar. β˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 10 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around 2 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Started the morning with some johnnycakes with sweet onions and spinach. πŸ₯ž Topped them with cottage cheese then had a small side of ground oatmeal and banana 🍌 as sort of a dessert. β˜•οΈ And more coffee. I had much too much caffeine yesterday, and it impacted my sleep during the middle of the night last night, but it wasn’t too bad. Will need to go shopping tomorrow early. πŸ›’ Usually Sunday morning early, the crowds are thin and the stores well stocked.

Today will have a chance of showers before 10am, then a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 46 degrees at 4pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 19th. North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Apparently they’ve not gotten the news at the weather bureau that the calendar says spring. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 65 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1921. 17.3 inches of snow fell back in 1982.❄

It’s not the nicest day out, but I’m hoping as the day goes on the weather can improve, and I can ride out to Voorheesville. 🚴‍♂️ Later on I might also want to go to the library to upload some things to my blog, πŸ“š πŸ€– and maybe get some books out. I am taking a bit slow today, as yesterday was a long day after getting up at 4:30 or 5 AM then going to work at 6:30 AM on my bike, then going to the other office by around 9:30 or so, and then working there until quarter to six, and riding back home, as I missed the bus by a few minutes. 🚌 But it’s all good, I got my exercise in. πŸ’ͺ

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:58 pm with sun having an altitude of 54.1° from the due south horizon (-16.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 4.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 6:50 pm with the sun in the west (274°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (280°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:28 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 7:56 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:31 pm. At sunset, look for rain showers 🌧 and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

My neighbor who had that big pile of trash next to his unit has moved out 🏚️ and they’re remodeling the unit next door. Doing work today too, but not super noisy work. It’s a good sign they’re remodeling the other unit. As it seems like they won’t be in a rush to tear down my unit. I should be prepared to have my rent bumped up $100 a month come June, as it expected from the notice of the increase to $800, but so be it.

The thing is I still need time to research and think about buying or building a home.  πŸ’ I am not so aggressively looking at that right now, though I do keep my eye on Zillow and Landwatch to see what is popping up these days, πŸ„ and houses to for the right one. Even if I do end up signing a lease in June, there will probably be an escape hatch or at any rate, it’s going to take time, especially if I’m thinking of building. I am undecided though, as renting remains the most affordable option due to the low cost of heat and electricity, and being able to bike or take public transit  🚍️ to work each day. The thing is if you save and invest in things like stocks and bonds  πŸ“Š you have a lot more flexibility. You can move cash out of state, you can’t move a house.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 9pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 33 degrees at 4am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. North wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2023, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 13 occurred back in 1982.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Arbor Day 🌳 when the sun will be setting at 7:52 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. On that day in 2023, we had partly cloudy, patches of fog and temperatures between 62 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

Powerlines Cut Through Moreau Lake State Park

The thing I’m learning about looking at houses is there two kind of places, mold and mouse-infested with paint peeling and marble countertops and swanky shit. 🏘

The prior the intention is to get an FHA loan, tear out all of crap and send it to the landfill and replace with Home Depot cheap swank features, while the later is already covered with that marble crap and swank features, and already has had that tear out done. In some ways it makes me feel good knowing that I’m not totally responsible for trashing my apartment, as shit wears out if you not constantly repairing it. Things have a lot shorter lifespan and are designed to be sent to the mound on the outskirks of town much sooner then you might think. Maybe I’m too much of a horny buck goat myself, who sprays his beard with urine because it smells so good at least to a horny buck goat, and even though I don’t spray my own beard with urine, I find those to be such a spirit animal.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Mostly cloudy and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 8 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 10 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

I was listening to this audio book, Jennifer McGahan’s Flat Broke with Two Goats, 🎧 last week which of course had too many descriptions of goat sex and all things smelly and dirty about owning buck goats, listening while I ride to work, probably as I pass through the Delmar suburbs and the poverty South End, and people are horrified overhearing the audio with the often very descriptively smelly parts of goat farm life. But shit’s real, unlike those marble countertops they keep trying to push me towards when I look at Zillow ads. And vinyl siding. Have you ever seen how black that vinyl siding shit burns, like my childhood neighbors did with the scraps when they got their then new double-wide manufactured home? πŸ”₯ Yuck. I’m cool with people burning shit out in the country, but vinyl siding is so toxic and nasty to burn. ☠

Today will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny ☁, with a high of 52 degrees at 3pm. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 31st. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming north in the afternoon. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1976. 8.4 inches of snow fell back in 1972.❄

Going to be a great day for riding to work. 🚲 And maybe also at lunch time. That’s one of advantage of living in city, well the suburbs for now. Figure might as well take advantage of it while it’s a thing. πŸ˜€ Plus it’s a great cure for my anxiety. πŸ€ͺ Yesterday, I had multiple anxiety attacks as I’ve been incredibly stress about taking over management of the Data Services division πŸ’» all by myself this week, the whole situation about the rent check πŸ“œ, even though I know it will be fine as I mailed the paper check to my new landlord, as much as he doesn’t want a paper check, he has to accept it, 🀷‍♂️ and he pretty much agreed to it in writing. It should be in box by tomorrow at the latest, which is three days before it’s required. I know things will work out, but it’s really a tough time in my life, as I’m pulled in forty different directions. ◀️ ▢️ I am no longer in my twenties and thirties, the days of rambling in the wilderness 🌲 are probably coming to an end. But maybe becoming a hobby farmer is next, and heating with wood and having bonfires πŸ”₯ out back in next.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 38.5° from the due south horizon (-32.3° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 5:03 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (252°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (259°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:41 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 6:08 pm, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:42 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 48 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over yesterday.

I was really hoping to meet my friend from Boy Scouts yesterday to learn more about he financed and secured his 10-acre homestead outside of Greenville 🐐 but he got stuck working late. He works really long hours, but then again I had to do some work adding accounts for the data system on Sunday too. Everybody is quite busy. Started to go through the list of properties in the hilltowns with back taxes owed to county, studying acreages, aerial photos, and LIDAR to glean what knowledge I can. πŸ” I am not saying this guarantees I’ll find the right land for me for cheap, that frees up funds for building the homestead of my dreams that smells like horney buck goat or hogs 🐷 and isn’t afraid of some mud, πŸ‘ƒ but pushing the paper — well actually the GIS databases and property tax information can provide insight into who to send certified letters in hopes I might find a willing seller for a reasonable price. 🀝

I’m not afraid to haul some garbage and tires for the perfect property without the marble counter tops that I have nothing but disdain for. 🏚 Maybe next weekend I can get together with him, I think he has a lot of good ideas I need to learn about, because I don’t think a real estate agent will be pushing me to the right property. I’ve also started reading a e-book πŸ“– from Libby about the process of building your own home, 🏠 or restoring an existing property. I can haul garbage but I don’t trust myself with a hammer, πŸ”¨ especially anything structural or supposed to look the least bit purty, not that I give a duck πŸ¦† about being purty but functional. I am also studying possibly having a cabin built to my specifications — there is lots of acerage available locally but so many of homes for sale have marble countertops and probably aren’t appropriate for raising hogs or burning shit out back without the neighbors calling the jack-booted thugs on you. πŸ‘©‍πŸš’ As my farmer friends like to post, happiness has a smell and it smells like barnyard. πŸ‘¨‍🌾 Silage can be so pungent.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 28 degrees at 2am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 21st. North wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2023, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of -13 occurred back in 1940.

Awesome weekend on tap, with temperatures running 16 degrees above normal. 😎 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 53. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 59. Typical average high for the weekend is 40 degrees. Maybe I can go camping. πŸ• I need some time in the wilderness. Nothing like a good ol’ fire to soothe the soul πŸ”₯ especially if we get some rain this week and it lowers the fire risk. March camping might be a challenge if we’re under red-flag conditions much of the month, especially if it’s windy as much of the spring often is. Honestly, I don’t mind a bit of snow in March, but hopefully at least we will get some needed rain. 🌧

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until April Fools Day 🀑 when the sun will be setting at 7:23 pm with dusk at 7:50 pm (Daylight Savings Time). Day after Easter. 🐰 Early this year. On that day in 2023, we had rain and temperatures between 74 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 77 back in 1986.

Mohonk Mountain Overlook

The New York North Alternative for Vacation

If the government shutdown persists into the second half of October, and the President is very aggressive at shutting down access to the federal back country, the West Virginia and Pennsylvania options that rely on camping in the back country of National Forests may not be an option. This also is a lower milage option, that will be more affordable, put less wear and tear on the truck and still let me explore areas I haven’t before.

  • Saturday 10/14 to Monday 10/16 – Head up to the Otter Creek State Forest outside Lowville to camp and ride trails in the
  • Monday 10/16 to Thursday 10/19 – Camp up at the Frank Jadwin State Forest, or alternatively Greenwood Creek State Forest
  • Thursday 10/19 – Hike and explore Fire Fall – Trout Lake State Forest
  • Thusday 10/19 through Sunday 10/19 – Camp up at Brasher Falls State Forest (CCC Dam Camping Area), explore Massena, ride the many sand roads through Brasher – Bombay State Forest.
  • Sunday 10/19 – Spend all day taking a leisurely drive down through the Adirondacks via NY 30 and NY 28N, getting on the Northway in Warensburg before it gets too dark.

Swimming Beach

 Confusion Flats Road

The year Lower Piseco-Powley Road washed away

It’s a bit remarkable to think it’s been three years since the pandemic summer when Piseco-Powley Road was closed all summer until October. It was a mixture of supply chain issues and the shut down as COVID spread across the state but it was still horrific to see the destruction brought upon it from the Halloween 2019 storm.

Damaged Wing Wall On Lower Piseco-Powley Road Bridge

Three years have passed and much of the evidence of repairs has been hidden as the brush regrows and the natural wear and tear and erosion make it look like it did before the storm – generally maintained to a high standard for a dirt road but still subject to the same wear and tear of all dirt roads.

Road Up To New Powley Bridge

The truth is the closure probably kept a lot of yahoo’s and families away seeking wilderness solitude and a place to party while most other places were closed during the pandemic. Still walking the road prior to the rebuild was jarring with all the damage visible.

Brayhouse Brook Crossing Just Needs Top Gravel

The road was fully reopened during October 2020, I camped at the House Pond Campsite for two nights after Thanksgiving to celebrate and witness it’s reopening. It was cold and gray at times but it was wonderful to see it back open again.

November 17, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Two weeks to December 🎄. Christmas is coming or as the Republicans want you to believe, you can only say Happy Holidays. My view is that around Christmas say Merry Christmas and the rest of the holiday season say Happy Holidays. Nothing wrong with being a proud Christian, a Jew, Muslim or somebody who just enjoys watching wrapping papers and Styrofoam packing blocks that the Christmas toys come in go up in smoke. 💨 Stinky black smoke for that Styrofoam for sure. Greta wouldn’t approve.

Its a very cold morning Mostly sunny and cold around 22 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at around noontime. 🌡️ After the freezing rain tomorrow morning it’s actually going to warm up. Or so I’m told. This is why I really need a well insulated place with a wood stove. Unlike the New Scotland Armory where the Green Energy Fair was held and heated with fracked gas in a building with windows missing.

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 36 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 14th. North wind around 6 mph becoming northeast in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 1928. 2.8 inches of snow fell back in 1992.❄

Kind of another cold day 💨 but it’s November and that’s to be expected. I’m planning to run to the store and go over to the Pine Bush for a quick little Save the Pine Bush Hike at 1:30 at Willow Street trailhead then to a meeting at the library to discuss the proposed Crossgates housing complex in the Pine Bush. 🚶 Then out to the folks house for Sunday dinner.

The sun will set at 4:31 pm with dusk around 5:01 pm, which is 52 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a northeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 42 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 6 seconds over yesterday.

The Green Energy Fair was good yesterday, 🌲🌳🌻 although I thought the attendance was a bit lighter than I expected and many of the booths weren’t that exciting but we gave out a lot of the Save the Pine Bush coloring books. They had a lot of Teslas in the electric car club section, and a Chevy Bolt. I toured the Bolt a few years back, and I do recommend Weber Auto tear down of the Chevy Bolt videos on the YouTube to learn how neat the technology really is. 🚘

Then I went for a hike along the rail trail into the Norman’s Kill George. 🚉 It was cold as duck, I’m not ready for winter but it happens. At least the trail is free of ice, and they’ve installed more guard rail and benches. 🚶Water levels are very low on the Norman’s Kill. 💦 I thought that was unusual on how wet it’s been lately.

Tonight will have a chance of freezing rain, mainly after 5am. Increasing clouds 🌧, with a low of 28 degrees at 8pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 27th. North wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of 10 occurred back in 1972.

I am continuing to research 📖 building a new theme for the blog, replacing the old code based on an unsupported theme with a lean one that loads faster. That said, getting the Masonry library and the Indefinite Scroll libraries to play along proven more difficult than originally anticipated although I probably want to keep figuring this out. There is just a lot of unused bloat in the theme my blog is based off it and I could disable many of the unused features if I wrote my own based on the stripped down theme.

Tuesday Big Red is getting his tires rotated, oil changed and state inspected. β›½ I think the weather will be fine but I’ll have to drop it off early on Tuesday morning as my new work hours earlier the before. I think the inspection will go fine and with the oil changed I’ll be good until May or June when the weather is nice again as I drive few miles in the winter – although I’m thinking about a winter camping trip to the Finger Lakes like last year during black powder season.

But before then I’m thinking about heading to the East Branch in the Adirondacks β›Ί come next weekend or maybe Black Friday, assuming that I have the day off and the weather is decent. I could see a lot of the snow melting in the Adirondacks this week although it could be icy from the freezing rain tomorrow morning. Or will it be all snow up north? God knows. But a nice big ol fire 🔥 in the wilderness will be fun. Maybe do some hiking, skiing 🎿 and hunting 🔫 not spent enough time out in the field this year.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until December 🎄 when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 45 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934.

 Path

November 7, 2019 Night

Good evening! Cold and damp with snow flurries and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. Definitely a cold and damp evening, the heat is on in my apartment and I’m wearing my comfortable blaze orange hoodie I wear regularly in the wilderness. ️

It was a busy and crazy day 😜 at work. I think I’m doing a good job and I have a good team but sometimes it gets crazy. I did check out the Tylenol they had had in the kitchen as I had another headache by afternoon. 💊 Everybody was calling me and keeping me busy, earning my money. Stayed up later last night then usual so I was tired 😴 by afternoon.

Despite the rain, β˜” I walked down to the Union Station 🚉 to catch the bus. I’ve been lately catching the bus down there as it’s easy with my new office 🏢 to walk down Columbia Street and getting the bus before the expressway. But I tell you – there are too many sidewalk barricades on Columbia Street. 🚧 It makes it difficult for a pedestrian to navigate it. Also they really need crosswalks at Chapel Street and Columbia Street. It’s unsafe without crosswalks and no stop signs on Columbia. β›” No fun for the pedestrian 🚶 in the rain walking down to the bus stop. 🚏

Got home, laid back in bed 💤 and then cooked up a big pan of pasta and meatballs. 🍲 I probably should have had a smaller meal as I had enough earlier in the day and I should have ridden the exercise bike 🚲 but I spent some much needed time cleaning in the kitchen and then the neighbor came home so I didn’t want to make a lot of noise riding the bike. At least dessert 🍰 was healthy – just frozen blueberries and bananas 🍌 to fill my increasingly bad sweet tooth.

Ended up watching a video on Beaver Trapping and some of Aging Wheels videos and now AVE. I accidentally downloaded most Aging Wheel channel so I might have a lot more to watch. 📹 I should have ridden the bike but at least I did walk a mile and a half today between walking to the express bus 🚍 and the station. So it’s not like I was a total couch potato.

Tonight will have a chance of snow, mainly before 10pm. I think that’s mostly done. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy 🌨, with a low of 25 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 5th. Barely expected to rise by morning. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon 🌔 with 89% illuminated. The moon will set at 2:26 am. The Beaver Moon 🌕 is on Monday night with partly cloudy skies. The sun will rise at 6:36 am with the first light at 6:07 am, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 13 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 25 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 34 degrees at 1pm. 17 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 20th. Northwest wind 9 to 17 mph. Going to be bitterly cold for November – not much snow melt in the mountains although the bright 🔆 sun will help. With the sun tomorrow and the heat on in my apartment I don’t expect it will get too cold inside. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1975. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 1894.❄

After I scheduled my post on water waste 💦 I noticed that my shower 🚿 was dripping this evening. I tapped the handle and it finally stopped. Bugged me as hell. If it starts again I’ll text the landlord to have the plumber come over. Also while he’s here I’ll have him fix the leaky sink drain and the sink faucet that leaks when it’s on. May that will slow all rusting and mold problems in the kitchen but I doubt – I think their must be a pipe that’s been leaking elsewhere for years. I hate calling the landlord over because I’ve done a lot of wear and tear on his building although I’m sure he already knows. I’m not a model tenant, I’m a dirty hick who tracks in a shit ton of mud. 💩 My idea of cleaning is paper plates and a campfire. He’s just happy I always pay my rent on time 💸 and I don’t make much noise. 🔇

Watching the snow falls around, ❄ and based on the reports and the weather I’ll decide on where I’m going this weekend. Tomorrow I’m going to John Wolcott house after work and after that I might run to the store or more likely I’ll just stop 🍖and get groceries to take to camp. β›Ί

In four weeks on December 5 the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm,🌄 which is 19 minutes and 14 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had cloudy, mild, rain showers and temperatures between 53 and 39 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 25 degrees. The record high of 65 degrees was set back in 2001.

Looking ahead, Thanksgiving 🦃 is in 3 weeks, Repeal of Prohibition Day 🍺 is in 4 weeks, Boxing Day 🥊 is in 7 weeks and National Cheese Lovers Day 🧀 is in 11 weeks. I do love cheese. I really should have visited that Cheese Store when I was in Cuba, NY. If I do go out to Madison County this weekend, I really should stop at For the Love of Bacon. 🐽 Get some good bacon which goes well with cheese.

Autumn continues...

October 22, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Two weeks to Election Day 2019 πŸ—³οΈ. Gray and cloudy and 50 degrees on Delaware Avenue catching the late bus into work 🚍. Kind of a normal late October day in Upstate NY. ☁ Dark and gray and smelling like cow shit. πŸ’© Well, at least out in the country, the corn is chopped, 🌽 they gotta fertilize before the put in the cover crops. πŸ€ There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ. The skies will clear tomorrow around 8 am.

Nice mild morning, dark but that’s expected this time of year. πŸŒ… It little more sun and less gray would have been nice, but it certainly was mild drinking coffee. I barely needed the heater this morning, it was 47 degrees by the time the sun broke.β˜• Enjoyed my coffee as I sat out back with the dog, having some cereal as I took down camp.🍜

This morning I was running late, caught the late bus in, 🚌 as I took down camp at my parents house. Going to rain tonight, so I figure I wouldn’t want to camp in the backyard and tear up the ground unnecessarily.πŸ• I don’t want to tear up the grass any more or compact it, and it’s my last day out there come tomorrow. I am glad, as I really don’t like driving. There is always school buses, πŸŽ’ construction, 🚧 and generally traffic and delays to deal with. I used to drive a lot more, but now I really don’t like it.

Today will have a chance of rain, mainly after 4pm. Damn, should have brought my rain coat β˜”. Maybe I’ll get wet going home. I can always change. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 59 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 19th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 5pm. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1979. There was a dusting of snow in 2005.❄

The sun will set at 6:02 pm with dusk around 6:31 pm, which is one minute and 31 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ Won’t be long until the time change, less then two weeks, then it will be dark an hour earlier. At sunset, look for rain showers 🌧 and temperatures around 57 degrees. The dew point will be 50 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 46 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 43 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain. 🌧 Low of 50 degrees at 6am. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 23rd. Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 42 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1969.

Today in 1897, using a filament of carbonized thread, Thomas Edison tests the first practical electric incandescent light bulb (it lasted 13 1/2 hours before burning out).πŸ’‘ This was the technology widely used for decades, until the florescent bulb came out and later the vastly superior LED lighting. It’s hard to remember even when incandescent bulbs were common. Been a long time now that LED technology has been quite widely adapted, and even the old florescent fixtures are being replaced with LEDs. Some LED bulbs can last for decades, although the capacitors in the power supplies may fail before the LEDs themselves are buried in the landfill, or burnt in the incinerator or burn pile.πŸ—‘ Too bad it’s so hard to recycle β™» these somewhat rare earths but they don’t do that much.🌍

I keep hearing different reports for the weekend. πŸ€” Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 54. Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Other models, namely Weather Underground says more rain coming in early on Sunday.🌦 Typical average high for the weekend is 56 degrees. I am inclined to go out to Charles Baker or maybe Stoney Pond in Madison County, but only if the weather is nice. I haven’t been there for a while. I would probably leave work on Friday around 2 or 3 PM, that way I can get set up before dark. But on the other hand, I wouldn’t mind a quiet weekend at home, maybe doing some more canvasing for David Bissember πŸ‘Šβœβœ… on Saturday and then hike in the afternoon. Maybe next weekend will be nicer. Early voting starts on Saturday, so I could vote this weekend if I wanted to git ‘r dun and avoid the election day crowds. Maybe Monday evening would best for me though. Ballot is a shit-ton long., although few are competitive unless you like casting protest votes like I do.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Election Day 2019 πŸ—³οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:43 pm with dusk at 5:13 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly sunny and temperatures between 48 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1994.
