Happy Thursday! πŸŒ₯

Those clouds continue to hang low overhead. The temperature is around 57 degrees now but it will head up to 70 degrees later. Just another somewhat cool-mid spring day.

Carrot pancakes for breakfast, πŸ₯ž πŸ₯• getting things packed and ready for the weekend as I don’t expect to be home until fairly late after the Pine Bush Hike tonight, 🚢 and I want to make sure I have sufficient sleep for a safe trip out to Schoharie tomorrow.

It’s May 16th and the 3 foot limitation on bonfires is over, πŸ”₯ though one still have to be careful not to burn anything that is too stinky and noxious. πŸ‘ƒ Vinyl and rubber is nasty, I’ll leave it at that. It’s going to be a lot of fun when I get out of town this weekend, ☺ I plan to spend most of Sunday riding the Catskill Scenic Trail 🚲 – – and Saturday out riding dirt roads, looking for ramps πŸ§… to eat and things to explore in the wilderness.

I’m driving 🚘 in today, mostly because I’m leading the Save the Pine Bush Hike, 🚢 and it’s just easier to drive from my office with acres of parking πŸ…Ώ to the Pine Bush for the hike. Technically, I measured the lot in my office – – it’s 9/10th of an acre plus the parking around the building for VIP people, which despite being a director, I am not. Lol! Friday I’m also driving in as I head to plan to camp right after work at 5 PM. I’d leave early but I’m saving my get out of jail early card 🎫 for Memorial Day Weekend.

Right now it seems like this weekend has improved enormously, β˜€ though Saturday looks fairly cloudy with a chance of showers but early. β˜” I plan to bring my screen tent to battle the black flies, along with the hammock net, 🐜 and lots of bug spray. I plan to stay up late on Friday and Saturday night, and probably will sleep in on Saturday morning as it’s Spring Turkey πŸ¦ƒ and I don’t want to bother the boys in cammo searching for breasts in the woods before noon-time. That said, I do have my mind set on a certain patch of leaks to gather when I’m out riding my mountain bike 🚡 later on in the day. I also plan to get some new e-books from Hoopla and maybe Libby to read over the weekend. Still interested in learning more about cabin building, permits, and developing a sustainable homestead. The more knowledge, the more power. There are so many ways such a program could go tragically wrong or be excessively expensive or run into permitting problems but with careful planning thing will go well.

Starting to get packed and ready for the weekend this morning. πŸ‘– I got my clothes packed, water containers full, I found the screen tent πŸŽͺ and have the cooler ready to load tomorrow. As I’m driving in today, I’m not going to pack my truck now, but I want to have as much gear as possible ready. Depending on how late the Save the Pine Bush Hike goes – – it depends who shows up if anybody – – we’re competing against a Pine Bush Commission lecture on the Karner Blue Butterfly πŸ¦‹ and the Corporation Challenge. πŸƒ Funny thing is now that I work at the Suburban Office in Menands, I didn’t even realize tonight was the night that the Corporations challenge commuters by closing down all the streets – – won’t impact traffic in Menands. πŸ›‘

Last night was the Save the Pine Bush Meeting, πŸ“Ή you know one of those Zoom Meetings that drags on and on for planning purposes along with an interesting lecture from Neil Gifford of the Albany Pine Bush Commission. 🎀 πŸ‘€ They say they’re doing a lot of good work at restoring the ecosystem, if the developers just wouldn’t keep developing all the Pine Bush. πŸ—οΈI know says the boy πŸ§’ who is thinking about building an off-grid cabin up in the woods. I got a list of things to do from them meeting – – need to create a Save the Pine Bush YouTube Channel and finish implementing scanning of Albany County Planning Board Agendas for tracking upcoming development projects. πŸ”Ž I’ve been re-writing a lot of the code from Python to R, mainly because I’m a lot more comfortable with R these days as I use it so much. It’s wasn’t a bad evening, because it was a Zoom Meeting I could take it along on my bicycle 🚲 and participate from Five Rivers. Despite busing it in yesterday, I did get in 10,000 steps and rode my bike 9 miles.

Before the Save the Pine Bush Dinner, 🍏 I went to the hard cider night at the Legislative Office Building and got myself some drinks with buddies. The food wasn’t notable but the alcohol was good and it was convient – – the shuttle dropped me off right near the event – – and then I got my drinks 🍻 before catching the bus home. 🚍 Some of the ciders were good but I don’t recommend the Hard Tart Cider from Indian Ladder Farms. There were many other options, but I’m really not a fan of that particular drink. I don’t normally drink alcohol and by the time I got on the bus to go home and sober up before the Pine Bush Zoom, I was a bit wasted.

Still evaluating what kind of mental health services I want to invest my time and money into. πŸ’ΈπŸ₯Ό I am just trying to figure out what kind of counseling I need and want. What do I want to change in my life? I found last time it wasn’t that helpful to go the licensed mental health therapist, tell him I’m sick puppy 🐢 who likes to burn things πŸ”₯ and tell him fix me. Doesn’t work that way. Mom was suggesting I do more reading, and learning about my problem, be it anxiety, pyromaniac or obsessive complosive disorder. It’s great I have so many e-books I can get for free from the library.

But maybe the biggest question πŸ™‹ in my mind is do I stay in New York and focus on my career – – and build my off-grid home here or do I go west or maybe south – – to a place where the gun laws πŸ”« are better and are fewer restrictions on open burning ? But what do I actually believe? πŸ’ The heck of it is I’m not sure how much use the professionals will be, as they will have their perspective and put me in a box to bill the insurance, πŸ“œ and remind me it’s ultimately me who is in the driver’s seat for my life and I’m the one who has to choose. πŸ”˜

Made it to the weekend, today should be nice, tomorrow who knows πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Maybe nice is an exaggeration but it will be mild by mid December standards but fairly cloudy. I think it will be a good day to ride and stay close to home, at least not drive anywhere. Tomorrow I can shop I figure before going out to the folks house in the driving rain.

Good morning! Mostly cloudy and 40 degrees in Delmar. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. πŸƒ. There is a inch of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around 10 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Made a nice breakfast cake up with oatmeal, cranberries, bananas and pineapple 🍍. Drank a lot of coffee β˜• but I’m good as I’m not planning an ambitious day though later on as it warms up I’m thinking about a bike 🚲 ride out to Voorheesville and maybe later on to French’s Mills or Altamont. There is a lot of places I haven’t explored on my bicycle around and even some local preserves that I can’t be bothered to drive to but are within biking range.

Today will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a high of 49 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 17th. South wind 7 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1966. 7.3 inches of snow fell back in 2009.❄

I won’t say it will be a banner weekend β˜” especially as the rain comes tomorrow but I’ll make the best of it. I decided against the Salvation Army this weekend, it’s a bit of a drive and I am okay πŸ‘Œ on clothes truth be told and I don’t love riding the sand trails in the Pine Bush that much. 🌲🌲 I kind of want to get to Indian Ladder Farms for some apples 🍏. I’d prefer Altamont Orchards but that’s a pretty long bike ride. Maybe I’ll just wait to I get groceries tomorrow. πŸ–₯ Kind of want to get to the library to use the Wi-Fi too this afternoon. πŸ“Ά

Solar noon 🌞 is at 11:49 am with sun having an altitude of 24.6Β° from the due south horizon (-46.2Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 3:38 pm with the sun in the southwest (231Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (239Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:23 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is one second earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 5:30 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 47 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 10 mph. Tomorrow will have 9 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 51 seconds over today.

Finally finished that course on Categorizing and Classification of Data Using Machine Learning in R. πŸ€– OK course, but I’ve wish they explained the pros and cons of the different methods better but I’ve previously read up on that. πŸ§‘β€πŸ« I’ll probably eventually study a Python course on the same topic but first I’m studying Artificial Neural Networks for Business Managers in R Studio. I can’t complain too much, all these classes are free with my Bethlehem Public Library card πŸ“š unlike many who pay for them. I doubt the instruction quality, at least of this last class would be something I’d pay for. But I still learned how to do a lot of it in R that I previously only knew concepts but not the R packages and code to implement.

Maybe I should cut back on the turmeric. That 6.2 oz bottle I bought last Sunday is third eaten already. πŸ§‚ My teeth could yellow and folks think I’m a smoker, lol. That said I shouldn’t have to worry much about tooth plaque or gingivitis. 🦷I just like my food yellow and tasty plus I never have any aches anymore despite climbing all the those stairs and riding all those miles. There are days when every meal 🍴 involves tumeric starting with the fried onions and eggs 🍳 in the morning.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain after 4am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 40 degrees at 2am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 20th. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of -4 occurred back in 1902.

Trying to keep costs down this weekend as after my credit card πŸ’³ bill is paid I’ll only have $350 left in my bank account to tide my over until I get paid the following work week. πŸ’Έ Heck of it is looking at my second to last paystub of the year I made more then I expected? So much money is going out the door πŸšͺ to retirement and investing plus inflation keeps taking a bigger chunk each time I shop for groceries. πŸͺ I’m hopeful with my new job next year I’ll make a little more money but with inflation that doesn’t go the way it once would have. I think πŸ€” I’ll do good work in the new job despite my fear 😱 of messing up πŸ’£ and the inconvenience of transferring buses 🚍 to get there days I can’t mountain bike it. Plus I’m making like $75 a month in ad revenue on the blog.

Today in 1958, the John Birch Society is founded. Businessman and founder Robert W. Welch Jr. (1899–1985) developed an organizational infrastructure in 1958 of chapters nationwide. 🍬 After an early rise in membership and influence,πŸ₯Έ efforts by those such as conservative William F. Buckley Jr. and National Review led the JBS to be identified as a fringe element of the conservative movement, πŸͺ° mostly in fear of the radicalization of the American right. πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

Looking ahead, next Saturday is Tea Party Day 🐍 when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2022, we had snow and temperatures between 35 and 33 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 38 degrees. We hit a record high of 61 back in 2021. Never got into drinking much tea 🍡. I do like my warm glass of milk before bed πŸ› on a cold night with some vanilla, ginger and lots of cinnamon though.
