The Weekend that Was – August 21, 2016

The sun certainly sets early as we head into the second half of August. I Β stopped and bought some firewood on the way up to the Adirondacks, and I’m sure glad that I did. It was pretty dark when I finally got camp set up and the fire started, it was totally dark out.

Hiked Panther Mountain overlooking Piseco Lake. It’s Β a short hike but very popular in this rather nice day. Then I hiked back to Sand Lake where it was very quiet. Spent several hours at the Potholers, which was awful high for this time of year. I’m not sure if this area is still in drought but it’s still muddy from last week. Went out fishing on East Canada Creek but everything I caught it was pretty tiny. Probably not good fishing this far up, but it was a pretty night.

Both nights I has nice little campfires. It wasn’t too cold, although driving up on Friday night by the time I got to Powley Road, it was only 64 degrees and cool enough to warrant closing up the windows. All weekend has been fairly cool although yesterday was at least warm enough for the Potholers. Summer is rapidly coming to an end.

Both evenings where clear and starry. Last night I went fishing around dusk. This morning things started to cloud up, but no rain until a light showers when I put the kayak on the roof of my truck.

It was a pretty good weekend but it came and went so quickly…
