September 29, 2017 8 AM Update

At 50 degrees under deep blue skies today is a fairly typical late September day. Indeed October 1st is Sunday is remarkable as that seems and I will be leaving for my Columbus Day trip come next Saturday. I still have some planning to do for that trip though. 67 degrees for a high which is fairly normal for today.

Finally made it to the express bus but it was still running about 10 minutes late. I noticed that yesterday when I got the local that the express was running late. Probably just the traffic now that school is back in session and people aren’t on vacation.

The sun will set at 6:39 pm with dusk around 7:07 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for partly clear conditions and 62 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 5 mph. Pretty typical autumn conditions. Β Today will have 11 hours and 47 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 3am. Increasing clouds, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal. Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2016, we had mostly cloudy skies. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1991.

As I noted earlier, it’s sure been difficult to get going in the morning with the dark mornings. I need to get bed earlier, use the red light more in my bedroom and maybe set the alarm clock on the other side of the bedroom. I like taking the express bus but I have to get up early enough to do that. Earlier this week it was quite humid so that’s a partial excuse but not really.

With the cooler weather I finally got around to catching up on the dishes and putting the camping gear and clothes away. To be fair I got back late on Monday and was at the laundromat and grocery store on Tuesday. Wednesday I went down to the library to return books and to the store to buy other things I left off my list.

Looking forward to a quiet weekend.Β I am going to spend some time studying maps and figuring out what my Columbus Day Week trip should look like. I think it will be Virginia and West Virigina but details are yet to be finalized. This really is the last big trip of the year, except maybe for a four day trip to the North Country in mid to late November.Β Β I really got to get the maps out and study them further.

There are 4 months until 35th Birthday when the sun will be setting at 5:05 pm with dusk at 5:35 pm (Standard Time). The average high temperature is 32 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895. Cold in winter. I’ll be an old man then, only 20 more years if I retire at 55, which I probably won’t but who knows.
