And then I was done with an * And now my thoughts are beach baby, beach. ๐Ÿ–

It will be a great summer. That is if it ever warms up again and the legislature doesn’t come back for a, summer session which will happen at one point or another. Okay, today will be in the low eighties but they’re talking about highs in the 60s and 70s for mid June. I don’t think we’ve had a real hot and muggy day yet this year. Hit ninety a couple of times but with very little humidity. Then again I’m not as well insulated as I once was.

Good morning! Partly cloudy and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Calm wind. The dew point is 52 degrees.

It’s a pretty nice morning. ๐ŸŒ… I’m out walking ๐Ÿšถ as usual, have a pot of red kidney beans on the stove simmering down. ๐Ÿฒ I was actually studying all the different types of beans they have at the store including some of the soup mixes. I’ll have to do some bean soup come the winter, especially if I avoid too much salt and fats in it. Legumes are so healthy and the nature of beans is they fill you up quickly and keep you full all day.

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 82 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 24th. Maximum dew point of 58 at 11am. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 78 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1947.

Yesterday I worked from home the bulk of the day ๐Ÿ’ป, it was just a lot of waiting around for Committee Agendas and calendars to be released, checking votes and responding to miscellaneous emails ๐Ÿ“ง. It’s all time I can use next week for going to the Adirondacks. โ›บ In the afternoon I went down to the library ๐Ÿ“š both to work and get books out. I got some books out on bicycle repair ๐Ÿšฒ. Then I came home, had dinner and got groceries. ๐Ÿช

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:51 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:34 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:07 pm, which is 33 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:53 pm.

I got a good night’s sleep ๐Ÿ˜ด last night not rushing out this morning. Planning on banana – oatmeal pancakes ๐Ÿฅž ๐ŸŒ this morning with coffee โ˜• after I get done walking and get milk ๐Ÿฅ› at Stewart’s. I’m going to get a gallon of skim milk this time as I want to make sure I’m getting enough calcium and vitamin D in my diet plus I’m heading out camping ๐Ÿ• on Thursday for the long weekend. Plus I have a free half gallon card this week.

Today I’m heading out to the Gas Up with dad ๐Ÿšœ which should be fun as the last time I went was before the pandemic. I’m sure things haven’t changed that much. But should be fun. Then I have to start getting ready for the upcoming work week and heading out of town for camp. โ›บ

At sunset, look for potential rain showers ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of 42 seconds over yesterday.

On this day in 1963, Buddhist monk Thรญch Quแบฃng ฤแปฉc burns himself with gasoline in a busy Saigon intersection to protest the lack of religious freedom in South Vietnam. The self-immolation would be captured on film and would go around the world ๐Ÿ”ฅ . On the same day, John F. Kennedy addresses Americans from the Oval Office proposing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that propsed equal access to public facilities, end segregation in education and guarantee federal protection for voting rights. โš–

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now will be World Population Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง when the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm with dusk at 9:07 pm. The average high temperature is 34 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.

 Haze Pushing In

It’s unofficially summer 2023 ๐Ÿ–

Heading up to the mid 90s by mid-week to kick off dairy month then cooling down by the weekend after thunderstorms on Friday. But in the mean time beautiful weather for the work week and that freshly cut hay smells amazing.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Sunny and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Out walking ๐Ÿšถ bright an early right around 6 o’clock 6โƒฃ but truth he told with the sunrise this early these days it ain’t that early. I have my doctors appointment at 8:30 and I plan to walk there after breakfast and a shower ๐Ÿง‘‍โš•๏ธ๐Ÿฉบ so I wanted to make sure I had sufficient time this morning. Health-wise I feel great but I figured getting checked out isn’t a bad thing especially as it’s free and I’m doing a lot more exercise and healthy activity.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 79 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 12th. South wind 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1987.

I’m thinking today would be a good morning for eggs, spinach and feta ๐Ÿณ to start out the day with a good punch. I also found some younger garlic mustard in the woods I foraged that I want to add to the meal ๐Ÿด. With summer and eating healthy I’m going to try to forage more food. It’s surprising how much is out there if you look. ๐Ÿ‘€ Wild Juneberries soon are a delicious treat. ๐Ÿ“ Soon!

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 69.1° from the due south horizon (-1.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:43 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-northwest (301°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:25 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 23 seconds with dusk around 8:58 pm, which is 50 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south (170°) at an altitude of 41° from the horizon, 244,204 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:43 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 73 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 24 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have patchy smoke between 11pm and 1am. Mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 19th. South wind 6 to 9 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It was humid. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1961.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Not super warm but still very summer like. Saturday, a chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 59 at 7am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.

I’m heading out of town this weekend ๐Ÿ• but how far I go is yet to be decided. Hammock Camping offers more options close to home. I’ve thought about paddling Lilly Lake in the Adirondacks or maybe Rensslearville State Forest and spending at least one night hammock camping at the new Hillcross Parcel to watch the stars over the Catskills from the pond.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 82 and 47 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1953.

Canastota Railroad Bridge

Memorial Day Weekend, Day Two 2023 ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ โ›บ ๐ŸŒฒ

While it would have been nice to get out of town for the Memorial Day Weekend, I’m enjoying the light breeze camping in the back country of Cole Hill, eating good healthy and delicious meals cooked over the fire and enjoying the light of a fire, the moon and candles in the evening. I’m sure if I had gone to the Adirondacks I would have been dealing with a lot more black flies to say nothing of the long drive, traffic and probably not getting my dream campsite. Onwards to Juneteenth Weekend, lol.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Sunny and 68 degrees at the Cole Hill State Forest. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. The dew point is 46 degrees. Warming up quickly after a somewhat cool night. I probably could have used another blanket for hammock camping last night.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 82 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 24th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 11am. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. That breeze is nice and it’s not expected to be real humid. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 2016. I think that year I was camping in the Green Mountain National Forest and spending much of the day at the beach at Grout Pond. There was a dusting of snow in 1902.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:43 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:24 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 21 seconds with dusk around 8:57 pm, which is 52 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the south-southwest (199ยฐ) at an altitude of 51ยฐ from the horizon, 248,997 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:41 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 71 degrees. The dew point will be 51 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 30 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 51 degrees at 4am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 26th. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8pm. Northwest wind around 7 mph. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1956.

I took my bike to Downtube and they told me that they didn’t think it warranted a professional rebuild ๐Ÿšฒ due to numerous components needing replacement to get it up and running well. They were more than happy to show me the latest 2023 models which run about $800 after tax and destination charges, but suggested my bicycle might still be a fun project to rebuild myself even if there are some components – namely the gas suspension which is bad and will fail catastrophically at some point in the future. They pointed me in the direction of the Albany Bicycle Rescue which offers free classes on bicycle repair on Tuesday.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until the Gas Up Day 2 ๐Ÿšœ when the sun will be setting at 8:35 pm with dusk at 9:08 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 78 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1947.

Brief Rainshower On A Hot Day

Shift it down into overdrive โš™

It’s now just coasting to the weekend, or so I tell myself. The hill has been climbed, now it’s just coasting to five o’clock. And next weekend is Memorial Day Weekend, which the black flies want you to know is a three day weekend.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Mostly sunny and 48 degrees โ˜€ in Delmar for the morning walk. There is a south breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

I hear that summer is coming ๐Ÿ– though lately there has been very little evidence of that lately. That said, things may get warmer for the Memorial Day Weekend though not by much. When summer finally arrives though I’m betting it will get hot.

I was thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ about eggs this morning ๐Ÿฅš as I had too many carbs yesterday but I think with time limitations ๐Ÿฅฃ and because I want eggs tomorrow I’m going to reheat the remaining barley and quinoa I have cooked in the refrigerator and serve with blackberries and cherries ๐Ÿ’ this morning. ๐Ÿฅฃ May add a little honey ๐Ÿฏ just because otherwise the quiona is too bitter. Then some carrots ๐Ÿฅ•. Tomorrow eggs ๐Ÿณ I’m thinking. I’ll make sure to limit carbs at lunch and dinner. Maybe I’ll crack open that other can of mackerel ๐Ÿ  or tuna with dinner and serve with kale to boost my omega 3 levels and vitamin absorption. Also need to use up more of the peppers ๐Ÿซ‘๐ŸŒถ๏ธ in the refrigerator they’re getting dried out a bit. I do make frozen spinach and especially kale ๐Ÿฅ— too big of a portion of my diet but it’s easy and cheap source of healthy fiber though I do need to mix it up more. Overdoing kale is better than overdosing on sugars and fats I tell myself.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 72 degrees at 4pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 48 at 12pm. South wind 11 to 17 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1989. There was a dusting of snow in 1976.โ„

Yesterday was busy and I was tired ๐Ÿ˜ด by the end of the day but I still got 9.2 miles in by the end of the day. Caught the express bus ๐Ÿš both ways, made up and eat too much brown rice ๐Ÿš and red lentils, as its super dense but tried to make up for it by having lots of kale, tomato ๐Ÿ… and onions with the small slice of chicken ๐Ÿ” breast I had for dinner. I’ll cut back further on the carbs today. It’s about averages.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 67.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-3.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:34 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (292ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (298ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:15 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 17 seconds with dusk around 8:47 pm, which is one minute and one second later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡

The best time to look at the stars is after 9:29 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 65 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 57 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 51 degrees at 2am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 24th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6am. South wind 11 to 14 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 2002.

I would like to walk ๐Ÿšถ ten miles today but it’s going to be difficult as I have to probably do work this evening and pick up the Save the Pine Bush display from Lynne Jackson in the city after work. ๐Ÿ—’ Those committee agendas keep coming later and later into the weekend. ๐Ÿคฏ It’s fine, I need the comp time for summer but still it will lead to a very busy evening.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 66 degrees at 12pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 1st. Maximum dew point of 57 at 2pm. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Not the nicest day possible for the Lupine Festival ๐Ÿฆ‹ but not a total washout. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1962.

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, โ˜€ with a high near 73. Northwest wind around 11 mph. Maximum dew point of 50 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees. That should be a nicer day. Looking at minimum at Bennett Hill before seeing the folks, might also do an early morning hike to Five Rivers ๐Ÿฆ – and I mean early like 5 AM – and maybe an evening hike up Blodgett Hill then get groceries for the week at Wally World.๐Ÿ›’

I wasn’t going to head out of town for the holiday weekend โ›บ but with the warming trend and potentially sunny hot weather, I could be persuaded elsewise. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Hammock Camping is more likely but I could consider the Spectulator area especially if I have to spend part of the week remote working. ๐Ÿ’ป That said I don’t like the black flies and summer isn’t that far away. I’d still almost prefer though to wait for the following week when work is less and the woods is quieter. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒBut sometimes plans change.

I’m back to thinking ๐Ÿ’ญ about the Finger Lakes National Forest for summer vacation ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ mostly because I’m thinking of all the trails and flat land up on the hump between the lakes for bicycle ๐Ÿšฒ riding. Plus lots of opportunities to fish ๐ŸŽฃ and the ease of setting up camp โ›บ for the week and nearby groceries at Watkins Glen. ๐Ÿ It was fun paddling Seneca Lake on calmer days. ๐Ÿ›ถ And doing the Black River Valley to camp and hunt come the autumn rather than West Virginia.

One month ๐Ÿ“… from now the Average High is 80 when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. Basically almost summer at that point, I should spend it at the House Pond campsite. โ›บ

Cloudy Skies Over Cedar River Flow

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. ๐Ÿคฏ

I’ve been doing this long enough that I know when give it a little gas and ease off the clutch I’ll be moving forward and before long be pulling that lever back into second and it will be Friday before you know it. That said I’m primarily thinking about Juneteenth weekend spent at the House Pond campsite swimming hole.

Sunny and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. I don’t know it feels cold but I’m always cold these days now that I’ve lost some body fat with the lower R value. But it’s also good because fat in the body organs like your heart ♥ muscle ๐Ÿ’ช is so bad. It can’t be that cold intolerant though as Saturday night slept in hammock with just a little blanket.

Regardless of what I might think of the weekend that was, it was a productive one ๐Ÿ”ง. The tire is back on the truck, my pantry stocked, walked twelve miles yesterday including five miles on Cole Hill State Forest and seven miles out to Bender Mellon Preserve. Got the work that needed to be done ๐Ÿ’ป from home. Hammock camped.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 73 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 20th. Light southwest wind becoming west 8 to 13 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 82 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

I made the best tasting whole wheat pasta salad ๐Ÿฅ— yesterday with the kale and mackerel. Much more filling then traditional pasta salad with the empty carbohydrates and fat of white pasta and mayonnaise. Mackerel is high in omega 3 fats that more than enough replaces the need for mayonnaise and helps with the absorption of fat soluble vitamins and minerals, including those in the fiber and vitamin rich kale. I know eating kale is a yuppie thing but it’s remarkably nutritious and tasty. Plus I can mock Keto math that subtracts fiber from carbs but it’s impossible to question the benefits of fiber.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 66.2° from the due south horizon (-4.6° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:30 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (290°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

Not sure how late I’ll be stuck in the office ๐Ÿข this week, but it should be a good week weather wise. โ˜€ Cool on Wednesday. Tomorrow I need to pick up my suit jackets at the dry cleaning before work, dry cleaning has gotten expensive these days. ๐Ÿ•ด๏ธ Leave my truck at the Delaware park and ride. Maybe after work stop at Hannaford and pick up a few missing groceries – so far no fat vanilla yogurt is the only thing on that list ๐Ÿ“ƒ and that is more of a luxury then a necessity. I like a few times a week to drizzle yogurt on frozen fruit as a sugary treat after the evening walk, especially on hot days. ๐Ÿšถ But I know the added sugar of the vanilla yogurt is rather bad even if I use it sparingly and a container typically last me a month before it’s used up and put in the garbage to be burnt. Lol.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (297°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:11 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 14 seconds with dusk around 8:42 pm, which is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:24 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 65 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 5 seconds over yesterday.

I am hoping to get home early enough, that I have time to walk down at the park. ๐Ÿƒ It gets difficult this time of year, but maybe I’ll get some steps in at lunch time. I would like to have in at least 9 miles by the end of the day. Need to get to the bank ๐Ÿฆ so I can have cash to pick up my suit jackets tomorrow. ๐Ÿ•ด๏ธ

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ , with a low of 50 degrees at 6am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 20th. West wind 7 to 10 mph becoming southwest after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It was humid. It got down to 57 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1980.

Showers this weekend โ˜”. But not a washout. Payback for the last two really nice weekends. Saturday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 72. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 48 at 8pm. Might not be perfect ๐Ÿ‘Œ for the Lupine Festival ๐Ÿฆ‹ but okay. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 71. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 52 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 73 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 3 weeks until 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:30 pm with dusk at 9:03 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 77 and 47 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 77 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1925.

Grass

April 9, 2023 Night

To imagine I was angry that I forgot to buy tofu this week while shopping. ๐Ÿ›’

I realized how much I’ve changed in my forties. I’ve always been a bit on the dour side of things but I can’t imagine half the ways I’ve changed in my forties. The world is changing quickly but so am I too.

Good evening! Clear ๐ŸŒƒ and 49 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Just saw a shooting star ๐ŸŒŸ.

That shooting star was bright as it burned on up in the atmosphere. ๐Ÿ’ซ Things are changing in the world today ๐ŸŒŽ, although not all things are bad like the preservation of the lands off Cheese Hill Road as forever wild as an addition to Rennselearville State Forest. Found some more ticks on me after exploring more of the Hillcross Farm Parcel but I think I got them all off. ๐Ÿœ

Tonight will be clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 28 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 23rd. Calm wind. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1974.

I was thinking once it warms up and gets green out, I want to hammock camp โ›บ at the Hillcross Farm Parcel, now that it’s state land and sit down by the pond one summer evening and look at the stars over the Catskill Mountains.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 84% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:48 pm. The Pink ๐ŸŒธ Moon is on Wednesday, April 26. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 5:56 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:25 am in the east (79ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 57 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:03 am with sun in the east (85ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 49 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 49 seconds over last night.

Going to be a very mild week coming up, ๐ŸŒธ first real preview of spring. Should be nice, so excited about sleeping with the windows open but not until tomorrow night. ๐Ÿ”ณ Now that the evenings are longer it will be nice in the park, ๐Ÿž to say nothing about sitting out back.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 65 degrees at 4pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 27th. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1922. 5.7 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

Tomorrow my truck gets serviced ๐Ÿ”ง with a whole bunch of stuff due for 100k. It’s running decently well this year and I want to get more years out of it if at all possible. ๐Ÿ›ป Going to paint or at least prime over the really rusted parts of the undercarriage and wheel wells probably next weekend.

Already giving a little thought about my next vehicle, once again thinking about a small car or Prisus for easier parking ๐Ÿ…ฟ and saving money on longer trips but mostly because I don’t want to spend a fortune on a new vehicle and may want to switch over to more tent camping and backpacking as my health improves. ๐Ÿ• Big trucks are so expenses these days, or maybe I’ve just grown more cost sensitive in my advanced age. Priorities in your forties are different and a decade really is just a blink of an eye ๐Ÿ‘โ€๐Ÿ—จ.

In four weeks on May 7 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (294ยฐ) at 8:03 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 48 seconds later then tonight. In 2022 on that day, we had mostly cloudy and temperatures between 59 and 45 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 69 and 45 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1930.

Looking ahead, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒท is Next Sunday, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 4 weeks, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 5 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 9 weeks, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 14 weeks, 6:30 Sunrise ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 22 weeks, Constitution Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 23 weeks, October ๐ŸŽƒ is in 25 weeks, Average High is 65 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 26 weeks, Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ is in 8 months, Earliest Sunset of the Year โŒ›๏ธ is in 8 months, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 35 weeks and Christmas Eve ๐ŸŽ… is in 37 weeks.

Good morning! Mostly sunny and 29 degrees at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. There is a north breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 1.5 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Got a fairly early start this morning ๐ŸŒ… to walk out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center to embrace as much of the time change as much as possible. I don’t want to get into the habit of sleeping in ๐Ÿ› but continuing to get up early and doing my walk. Plus it’s a nice morning with a giant sunrise about a half hour after I started my walk at 6:45 after having a good pan ๐Ÿณ of eggs ๐Ÿฅš and lots of vegetables. I’m mostly out of fruit so it was eggs today. Little less healthy then recent days but I’ll get plenty of steps today. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

I figure it’s best to walk early before the woods is soft and muddy, ๐ŸŒž as I’m sure the case will be by afternoon. Yesterday afternoon was nicer than expected but I stuck to my plan of going to the library ๐Ÿ“š in the afternoon because with the melting snow and mud it wouldn’t be a good day to go to Five Rivers plus this morning looked so nice.

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜€ โžก โ˜, with a high of 45 degrees at 4pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 15th. North wind around 5 mph becoming east in the afternoon. A year ago, we had heavy snow in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 2012. 30.4 inches of snow fell back in 1888.โ„

Red winged black birds ๐Ÿฆ are out but not in real big numbers yet as are the morning doves ๐Ÿ•Š and red headed woodpeckers. It was early enough this morning that Meads cows ๐Ÿฎ were all piled up in the cold sleeping and chewing their cud. No spring peepers ๐Ÿธ yet though ice is mostly off the ponds at this point.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:06 pm with sun having an altitude of 44ยฐ from the due south horizon (-26.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:21 pm with the sun in the west (260ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west (266ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:58 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:26 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:59 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 11 hours and 48 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒจ, with a low of 31 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had light snow in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 18 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1885.

Maybe snow ๐ŸŒจ or rain โ˜” come Monday night into Tuesday but I think it might be too warm in the city to add up to much. Plus it’s March and if it’s pushing fifty with rain come Friday it will be gone come the weekend. I’m fine with that. I have a family ๐Ÿ‘ช event to go to next weekend so I can’t get out of town this weekend but maybe the following weekend. My truck is due for service fairly soon – oil change, transmission fluid and tire rotation come April before I start doing any big trips but Rennselearville isn’t too far for a weekend trip.

Today in 1933, was the first of President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s fireside chats. ๐Ÿ“ป Back when everybody listened to the radio for their news and entertainment. You can still listen to them on the interwebs if you are curious.

As previously noted, next Sunday is Last Day of Winter ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 7:07 pm with dusk at 7:34 pm. On that day in 2022, we had cloudy, warm, rain showers and temperatures between 63 and 43 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 78 back in 2012.
