May 27, 2020 10 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and 78 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a south breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 62 degrees. Warm maybe a tad bit muggy but not too bad.

Back home after five nights in the woods ๐Ÿก and really six full days as I was up to camp on Friday before nine and worked from camp and Speculator, the same true today, Wednesday. I wasn’t planning on staying as long as I did but I decided I’d rather ride out the heat wave up north. It’s already cooled off a lot this evening. ๐Ÿ˜ด Tired because I don’t know I don’t sleep as well at camp although I think ultimately it does help restore my sleep. Plus I’ve been staying up too late most nights and the sun is out after 5 something am.

I have most of the gear unpacked from my truck โ›บ and washed up and ready to go to the attic for storage. The screen tent is great during black fly season but it’s so bulky and heavy I doubt I’ll use it except on extended camping trips.

It was a working day ๐Ÿ’ผ so while I did spend some time in the hammock and at the Speculator Beach, ๐ŸŠ and got covered with sand lying there and splashed in the water a bit, most of the day was devoted to sending emails, running reports and phone calls. ๐Ÿ“ž Left Speculator after five, got home around seven. I’m already missing being in the woods but summer ain’t over yet.

As soon as I started driving through Guilderland, ๐Ÿš˜ and all of the suburban sprawl with the yuppie houses, I was reminded this ain’t really my home, just a place to get the mail. โœ‰ I really want to get to Madison County soon ๐Ÿšœ but there aren’t many roadside campsites up there except the camping area that is closed. Not heading out of town this weekend but maybe next. Some point I hope to never come back to Delmar, owning land in a freerer state.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 66 degrees at 4am. 15 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 62 at 9pm. South wind around 9 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 33 occurred back in 1994.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 28% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the west (271ยฐ) at an altitude of 31ยฐ from the horizon, some 232,220 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by November 19th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Strawberry ๐Ÿ“ Moon is on Friday, June 5. The darkest hour is at 12:54 am, followed by dawn at 4:50 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:24 am in the east-northeast (60ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 21 seconds. Sunrise is 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:06 am with sun in the east-northeast (67ยฐ). Tonight will have 8 hours and 59 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 30 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers after noon. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 81 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 26th. Maximum dew point of 65 at 1pm. South wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 2016. There was a dusting of snow in 1902.โ„

In four weeks on June 24 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:37 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 14 minutes and 31 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 85 and 56 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 80 and 59 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1943.

Looking ahead, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 4 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 34 weeks.

May 22, 2020 11 PM Update

Good evening! Mostly clear and 61 degrees at the Mason Lake. There is a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 50 degrees. Nice mild spring evening and the black flies are now in bed. That said, day time is a lot more pleasant with the screen house. ๐ŸŽช

It will continue to be a pleasant evening. I would stay up late but I got up at Five AM to get one of the last sites in the Adirondacks. โ›บ Beggers can’t be choosers but I really wanted that site on Harmon Hill to work from because the site I’m currently at is kind of small, too close to another site and doesn’t have great cell service for work. At least I got a site and it’s nice under the tent away from the black fly.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 52 degrees at 4am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 10pm. North wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1967.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon with 0% illuminated. The Lots of stars tonight in the Adirondacks. The darkest hour is at 12:55 am, followed by dawn at 4:53 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:27 am in the east-northeast (60ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 23 seconds. Sunrise is 50 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:09 am with sun in the east-northeast (67ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and one minute of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 48 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 76 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 7th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 5pm. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1964.

In four weeks on June 19 the sun will be setting in the borthwest (304ยฐ) at 8:42 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 18 minutes and 46 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, mist and temperatures between 79 and 66 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 79 and 58 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1995.

Looking ahead, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 2 weeks and Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is a month away.

May 17, 2020 10 PM Update

Good evening! Cloudy and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a east breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 50 degrees. The skies will clear Tuesday around 1 am.

For all the commotion earlier it looks like the fire ๐Ÿš’ is out or whatever all the emergency vehicles were reporting too. Maybe I’m a bit paranoid about the plastics plant blowing up but I’m well aware of toxic chemicals they use at SABIC plastics and it sure seemed like a lot of emergency response heading that way. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ Probably safer at home at any rate and who knows their is rain pushing this way shortly.

It’s not like I sat home and eat twinkies all day. ๐Ÿ› I did have a bowl of tuna fish salad for dinner but it probably has a quarter pound of peas and broccoli besides the noodles, mayonnaise and tuna fish. ๐Ÿ  I did hold back on the mayonnaise a bit.

Walking out to Five Rivers this afternoon was nice. ๐Ÿธ Spent several hours studying nature with the binoculars my parents lent me. It’s really fascinating to watch the birds up close and even just study squirrel and chipmunk behavior. Next up I need to get a better knowledge of bird ๐Ÿฆ species – I know the common ones but especially the migratory birds are a bit of a mystery to me. I thought about Black Creek Marsh at dusk but I decided to hold off because it was getting late – after seven o’clock when I started walking home from Five Rivers.

To be honest, my plan for visiting Black Creek Marsh at dusk ๐ŸŒ† wasn’t just for bird watching ๐Ÿฆ or photos ๐Ÿ“ท but in part because I was curious how effective the Permethrin would be in really buggy weather – that is with DEET on the face and arms. People swear by it and while I haven’t found any ticks on me yet and saw a mosquitoes collapse after crawling on my jeans ๐Ÿ‘– I’m not totally convinced of the hype. I did spray my hat yesterday too. Unlike DEET I might also be able to safely apply it to the hammock which would help with the bugs when I’m lying there.

Tonight will be scattered sprinkles before 11pm, then showers likely, mainly after 3am. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 53 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 2nd. Maximum dew point of 50 at 9pm. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 46 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1981.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 19% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 4:59 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:32 am in the east-northeast (62ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 16 seconds. Sunrise is 57 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:13 am with sun in the east-northeast (69ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 16 minutes of darkness, a decrease of one minute and 57 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly before 9am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 65 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 2nd. Maximum dew point of 50 at 10am. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 2017. 2.2 inches of snow fell back in 2002.โ„

In four weeks on June 14 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:34 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 21 minutes and 28 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 68 and 53 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 78 and 56 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1892.

So the Gas Up tractor and agricultural festival is canceled for June. ๐Ÿšœ I think that was kind of expected during the pandemic although they’re considering trying to reschedule for mid August. Could be hot then I’m thinking though. Assuming it’s even an option then – they didn’t seem too hopeful. ๐Ÿ˜”

Looking ahead, Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 3 weeks and Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 4 weeks.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 5 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

I was doing some reading on the internet and found out that the lower part of Piseco Powley Road is still not fully rebuilt from the October 2019 storm and that the road is closed. โ›บ So I guess that’s out for the weekend. Hopefully soon though they’ll finish the rebuild and open the gates all the way. There are other options but with the nice weather expected and the state campgrounds closed they’ll fill up quickly.

So the original plan of delaying my Memorial Day Weekend for one week is back on the agenda. ๐Ÿ”™ That’s fine, it gives me more time to pack and potentially opens up more options as there will be fewer people camping, especially if I drive up Thursday evening or Friday morning on a non holiday weekend. I never did a spring trip this year with a long weekend so I have the time.

Come June for example, it’s likely Perkins Clearing Road and West River Road and White House in Wells will open. ๐Ÿšง But also I expect I could get that campsite up on Pumpkin Hollow Road when on a non holiday weekend. If it’s hot though it would be nice to be able to walk to water. Betty Brook or Duck Pond are good options in Schoharie County. ๐Ÿ’ญ

East Branch Sacandaga River is fine but it’s noisy ๐Ÿ  and the river isn’t that great for fishing due to the fluctuating water levels. A drought in summer – as was a case a few years ago can leave the river with only a few inches of water. Right now, Cherry Ridge and Finger Lakes National Forest are closed for camping.

Maybe Moose River will be my summer vacation if Piseco Powley Road โ›บ is not rebuilt. While I assume ny mid summer that the Finger Lakes National Forest will reopen for camping if the pools and beaches aren’t open I’m sure if I’d want to do summer vacation there.

Other options include the Allegheny and Green Mountain National Forest. ๐Ÿ—ป The later is open but who knows if the current limits on out of state visitors will be lifted by summer. That Grout Pond beach is fun and some of sites along Forest Road 73 not only have good sun โ˜€ for solar but also cell reception.

Good evening! Clear and 46 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Not a half bad night.

Today was busier than I expected. ๐Ÿ’ผ Beautiful day only a little bit cool. Hiked Bennett Hill this evening, mom brought over pulled pork ๐Ÿ– which was nice plus a pair of binoculars that they weren’t using. Uploaded some new content for the blog which I’ll be featuring in the coming weeks. I wanted to get to the store today particularly for the spray bottle ๐Ÿถ for spraying my clothes for ticks but that didn’t happen. I really need to get a list ๐Ÿ“ƒ together and run to Walmart midday when there ain’t the crowds. I hate how the banada limits my vision. Went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ and made my spoken public comment to the Guilderland Planning Board on the Pine Bush development.

Tonight will be widespread frost, mainly after 4am. I probably should close the window of the I have open but I like fresh air. Otherwise, clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 31 degrees at 5am. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 31st. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became light drizzle by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1996.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 54% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:04 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:36 am in the east-northeast (64ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 14 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 4 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:16 am with sun in the east-northeast (70ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 24 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 7 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have areas of frost before 7am. Otherwise, mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 66 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 5th. South wind 3 to 8 mph. Should be another nice day until the clouds push in. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 48 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

I think it wasn’t a bad decision to start adding a little bit more money biweekly into the market ๐Ÿ’ฐ based on the fed chairs remarks and the thing that I think stocks will be relatively cheap for the foreseeable future. There is just so little interest these days in certificate of deposits.

I’m starting to think we will be this in the long haul, โณbut maybe Upstate a few more things will resume come June. It’s risky to be to optimistic and thinking a vaccine is just around the corner is fool hardy. The idea of people packing into a Costco or luxury apartments anytime soon seems fool hardy. But you make due with the best you can quite honestly. There are always swimming holes to explore come summer. I’m a lot better off than many but I do miss my office, my colleagues and even the commutes. ๐Ÿš So much of the ordinary life is gone so quickly.

In four weeks on June 10 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) at 8:32 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 23 minutes and 41 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 81 and 53 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 77 and 55 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 2008.

I am pretty sure this will be a stay in town weekend. ๐Ÿก Memorial Day Weekend is a wait and see approach but if it looks outstanding I might take off the Friday before and make it a four day weekend. We’ll see.

Looking ahead, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 6 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 36 weeks.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 9 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Hoar Frost on Tassell Hill

May 8, 2020 11 AM Update

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Seems like just another day working from home on weekdays, especially when I’m staying in town this weekend. ๐ŸกBut maybe it will be nice this next weekend. Four weeks to 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ. Despite the cold and snow tomorrow, summer is coming. It’s May after all and mid May by next week.

All and all a nice morning today. Partly sunny and 49 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜€ There is a west-southwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Before work today I went for a very pleasant nearly two hour walk ๐Ÿšถ around the rail trail starting at 7 AM. So quiet with everything closed down on buses only running their Saturday schedules. ๐Ÿš Very little traffic early on although there were some joggers and a county DOT worker ๐Ÿ‘ท mowing the trail. Saw a Blue Jay, ๐Ÿฆ got a nice picture. Home by nine for work.

Today will have a chance of rain, mainly after 3pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 54 degrees at 2pm. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 6th. West wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1936. There was a dusting of snow in 1977.โ„

Going to be a bit cool today โ˜€ but I want to work outside as much as possible so I can enjoy the sunshine. I’ve started to get a good tan from last weekend and the past few days working outside but I have to be careful about not getting sun burnt with the doxycycline.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 64.6ยฐ from the due south horizon (-6.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:24 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (288ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (295ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:04 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 11 seconds with dusk around 8:35 pm, which is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:15 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 23 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 17 seconds over yesterday.

This afternoon I want to work at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center ๐Ÿธ because it will be nice enjoy the day and get some more walking in before the rain begins. โ˜” I’m feeling really good now that the doxycycline has kicked in ๐Ÿ’Š and won the battle so far against the Lyme.

Tonight will rain likely before 10pm, then rain and snow likely between 10pm and 11pm, then snow likely after 11pm. Cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 33 degrees at 4am. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 40 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1956.

Tomorrow will have a chance of snow showers before 9am, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 9am and noon, then a chance of rain showers after noon. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 43 degrees at 1pm. 24 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 14th. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1979. 1.6 inches of snow fell back in 1977.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 53. West wind 14 to 16 mph. That’s going to be a bitterly cold Mother’s Day. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโค Maybe it’s good there is no tulip ๐ŸŒท festival this year. Typical average high for the weekend is 67 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 8:29 pm with dusk at 9:04 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain and temperatures between 83 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 75 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1925.

Very Shallow and Marshy Here

May 3, 2020 10 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 46 degrees. Nice evening, sat out back for a while. Not feeling terrible but still a little achy from the Lyme. I still need to take the doxycline I got from the doctor Friday. ๐Ÿ’Š

Sleeping with the windows open tonight โฌ› which is nice until I heard the sirens from the meat wagon ๐Ÿš‘go roaring by. I wonder if it’s somebody dying of Coronavirus? Hopefully nobody I know. It’s a question one always asks these days.

I thought about staying up north one more night and driving home early tomorrow ๐Ÿš˜ but I decided against that as I broke camp midday to go hiking. ๐Ÿšถ While hiking the remote section of the abandoned Dunning Pond Snowmobile Trail was quiet I eventually lost the trail as it got into dense woods with lots of trees down and few of the old markers. ๐Ÿ”ด Some nice views of the gorge and then a lot of it was an eroded mountain road until the trail left the road and disappeared into the woods. This wouldn’t have been a big problem if I had the GPS tracks from my Google County Maps part of the blog but of course I managed to somehow delete them off my phone. I got to make sure I have them on the phone along with USGS Topo maps saved. I would have also had a better chance of following the herd path up to Eagle Pond that I had lost on Saturday if I had that data saved. ๐ŸŒWell there always is future trips up north.

It was a pretty good weekend up north ๐Ÿ˜Ž with lots of sun and actually quite mild and warm most of the weekend except for brief rain shower around 10 pm Saturday night ๐Ÿ’ฆwhen I ended up retiring to my truck cap earlier than I had planned. Had a nice big fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ at the same campsite I’ve been at the past few times I’ve been up north on the East Branch Sacandaga River. โ›บ Some traffic ๐Ÿšฅ noise but pretty nice. Spent a lot of time laying back in the hammock, soaking up the sun. โ˜€ The sun felt good especially when I felt achy from the Lyme. Warm enough a good portion of the weekend I could just lay out with a t shirt ๐Ÿ‘š on.

Left my Bluetooth speaker ๐Ÿ”Š home which was annoying when I wanted to listen to podcasts and music ๐ŸŽถ. I’m going to start leaving that in the truck. Better to charge it there too – I don’t pay for the unused solar power the truck produces while parked with the solar controller in float mode. ๐Ÿ”‹ Also forgot ketchup for my hotdogs – ended up topping them with baked beans and cheese. ๐Ÿฃ

Explored more of the Fox Lair remains, I want to do one of those historical aerial photo comparisons, especially if I can find the 1942 aerial photo ๐Ÿ“ท. Not a lot left of the ruins, but I wonder if I can find more old pictures on the internet. ๐ŸฐDid some walking ๐Ÿšถ along NY 8 just for exercise too and to take in the scenery.

Came back relatively early, I was unpacked by about six. ๐Ÿก Laid back on my bed for a while before showering ๐Ÿšฟ and shaving. Got a nice tan. Those side burns I’ve grown are coming in nicely but I do need a hair cut ๐Ÿ’‡. I’m going to do some trimming myself in the morning as who knows when the barber ๐Ÿ’ˆ is going to be allowed to reopen. My barber is so elderly, I wonder if he will just hang up his hat ๐ŸŽฉ after the pandemic. I decided to avoid the expressway and cities home so I took NY 30 to Duanesburg Churches Road past the Mariaville Farm to US 20. Pretty drive with things greening up outside Amsterdam but I tell you there are some sharp curves on NY 30 south of Amsterdam. ๐Ÿ”ถ

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 49 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 21st. West wind 6 to 8 mph. In 2019, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1985.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 85% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south (175ยฐ) at an altitude of 52ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,511 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 22nd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:16 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:48 am in the east-northeast (68ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 8 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 19 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:27 am with sun in the east-northeast (74ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 46 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers between 11am and 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 57 degrees at 11am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 13th. Northwest wind 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 67 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

Tomorrow I probably should go to the laundromat ๐Ÿ‘–๐Ÿ‘• ๐Ÿ‘š and wash some clothes and probably my sheets too. I can probably bring my laptop there and work from there, uploading pictures from the weekend that was. I’m good on food but the two gallons of milk I bought last week is almost all drunk. I do like my cow ๐Ÿฎ beverages. Other than that I should be good on food until mid week.

As I noted previously, last weekend I got another tick bite. ๐ŸœI was sore found it on Tuesday. Its been weird – sometimes I feel fine other times terribly stiff and sore. No bulls eye though. Went to the doctor on Friday, she kind of thought I didn’t have Lyme but gave me doxycline. ๐Ÿ’Š I held off taking it as I went to the Adirondacks for the weekend and knew doxycline and sun don’t mix due to the risk of severe sunburn. I’m also a little mixed on my concern – it stings from time to time around where I was bit, I’ve been super sleepy at times. ๐Ÿ˜ด I don’t want to take an antibiotic I don’t need. But I guess the doctor while questioning ๐Ÿ™‹ me said I should take it. I don’t know what to think.

It was such a werid experience going to the doctors office during the pandemic. ๐Ÿ˜ซThe doors had big signs warning people that if they had cold or flu symptoms they aren’t welcome and that they did not offer Coronavirus testing there. The whole experience was kind of odd and frightening. ๐Ÿ‘พ

While I’m always cautious about social distancing and wearing a mask out in public places but between the limited vision under the banada, the empty doctors office, the hand sanitizer everywhere and all these things like a special Coronavirus questionnaire that I had to do on my phone before the doctor would see me. ๐Ÿ“ฑ I was so creeped out by the experience.

In four weeks on May 31 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) at 8:26 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 53 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy, mist and temperatures between 76 and 55 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 52 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 2013.

It looks like for Mothers Day it’s going to be cold and they might get snow in the Adirondacks. โ„ It does not look like a good weekend to get out of town. I’m still thinking about a mid May trip out to Schoharie County – maybe three nights with me working from my truck on a Monday. โ›บ I’m thinking the last week of May – the one after Memorial Day Weekend – to do a three night trip to Piseco Powley Road starting that Thursday night before the weekend if it is nice. I hope to have the screen house by then to avoid the bugs. Peak black fly season isn’t so bad if I have shelter during the day as black flies aren’t out after dark. Memorial Day Weekend proper I’ll stay home ๐Ÿก most likely to avoid the crowds especially if other developed campgrounds are closed forcing people into the back country taking up all the good sites. I’m also seriously thinking about planning my summer vacation up at Piseco Powley Road – and a week at the House Pond Swimming Hole could make up for all the state park pools being closed. ๐ŸŠ I’d have to see about getting a camping permit.

Looking ahead, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 1 week, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 2 weeks, Strawberry Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 5 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 6 weeks, Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 6 months and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 6 months.

Tulip Time!

April 10, 2020 10 PM Update

Good evening! Cloudy, still somewhat blustery. and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ Breezy, ๏ธ20 mph breeze from the west-northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 32 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. It was a bit cold on the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ although it seems like the wind is dying down. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 34 degrees at 3am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 7th. Breezy, with a west wind 11 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1874.

Not a real productive day, ๐Ÿ“fixed some issues on the blog and rode the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ for a while. Been having some issues with one of the pedals, I might have to figure a creative way to fix it going forward. While the mercury wasn’t super low – it was in the forties most of the day – that wind was intense. Roared most of the day and it made it raw outside.

Finally made that cherry ๐Ÿ’ pie I’ve been literally telling myself to make for a decade. Came out fairly good. The main thing parishible was the refrigerated crust I bought a few weeks back so the canned cherries were fine from a decade ago. Had cornbread waffles for breakfast and pasta for a late lunch. Skipped dinner.

While we had some sun โ˜€ for a while I’m glad I stayed home and in town. It would have been pretty darn cold up north and gear would be flapping around with the trees swaying and branches falling down. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ A big branch came down and hit the window and the apartment with a large crack midday but fortunately the window wasn’t damaged. Probably would be hard to maintain a safe fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ with the wind. I’m sure there will be better weather to come.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 87% illuminated. The moon will rise at 10:51 pm. The Pink ๐ŸŒธ Moon is on Sunday, April 26. The darkest hour is at 12:57 am, followed by dawn at 5:53 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:22 am in the east-northeast (78ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 57 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 40 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:00 am with sun in the east (85ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 47 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 51 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 31st. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 2017. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 1942.โ„

I was planning on going down to Schodack Island tomorrow ๐Ÿšถ ๐Ÿฆ but something came up and plans changed. I might instead stop by the library in the morning and get the blog update uploaded.

In four weeks on May 8 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (295ยฐ) at 8:03 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 37 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 67 and 44 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 67 and 45 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1936.

Looking ahead, May ๐Ÿ•Š is in 3 weeks, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is a month away and 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 8 weeks.
