Finished off the last of Annuto’s Cider Doughnuts this morning 🍩

Time goes by so quickly, already Thursday. I’ve been enjoying those half dozen cider doughnuts in moderation each day, as a treat each day. Not as good as when they were fresh but still pretty good.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Mostly clear and 52 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌅 Calm wind. The dew point is 46 degrees.

Not a bad sunrise 🌅 but late around 7:40 this morning. Watched a bit of it from one of the sods down the road. This morning cooking 🍳 up some eggs. Then it’s off to Thomas WV to ride some of the Blackwater Rail Trail and Forest Roads 🚲 and the Olson Fire Tower 🗼. Should be a great day!

Today will be partly cloudy with more clouds later 🌞👉 🌥 , with a high of 69 degrees at 3pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 28th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 5pm. South wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1963. There was a dusting of snow in 1997.❄

Still having a lot of trouble updating the blog 📸 in part due to the spotty cell service here. 📱 I’m really kind of on the edge of the National Radio Quiet Zone 📻, most of the signal 📶 I’m getting is probably from Oakland Maryland bouncing through the mountains. ⛰ If I have time, 🕒 I guess I could stop by the library in Thomas to hop on the Wi-Fi there.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:40 pm with sun having an altitude of 35° from the due south horizon (-35.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8.6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 5:19 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (247°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (254°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:28 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 1 seconds with dusk around 6:55 pm, which is one minute and 27 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Full 🌝 Moon in the east-southeast (101°) at an altitude of 15° from the horizon, 228,387 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 7:00 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies 🌃 and temperatures around 67 degrees. The dew point will be 56 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over today.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 50 degrees at 5am. 18 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 13th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6pm. Back in 1970, Muhammad Ali faces off against Jerry Quarry in Atlanta, Georgia for the first time after Ali’s three-year hiatus from evading to be drafted in the Vietnam War. 🥊

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. 😕 Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 67. Southwest wind 7 to 13 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Maximum dew point of 61 at 11am. Sunday, rain showers. High near 55. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Typical average high for the weekend is 57 degrees.

I am thinking 💭 tomorrow – Friday of visiting the Canaan Valley Wildlife Refuge 🐦 and hiking back to Dolly Sods from the refuge. This cuts a lot off the drive plus I’ve not seen that part of Dolly Sods, and probably not the as crowded as the Bears Rock 🐻 area. Then Saturday probably cross the Eastern Continental Divide down by Seneca Rocks and hike somewhere around there then north to Cumberland then probably Asaph Run Campground in Wellsboro and riding a few hours 🚲 on the Pine Creek Rail Trail before heading back home with a plan to arrive home by seven 7⃣ on Sunday. Already have clothes put out for work on Monday 🏢 but I want time to knead fresh bread and unpack some of my gear and shower up before bed. 🚿

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Thanksgiving 🦃 when the sun will be setting at 4:28 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 49 and 24 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 72 back in 1931.

And then the weather improves 🌤

But maybe not my breakfast. I decided to try baking apple bread, but I didn’t use enough salt and maybe oil and I ended up with a carb loaded mess that tasted like crap. Dipping in it maple syrup and salt helped but I still ended up cooking complete junk. It happens when you experiment, at least it’s whole wheat.

Good morning! Partly cloudy and 51 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ There is a southwest breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 44 degrees. The skies will clear around 10 am.

So yeah, breakfast was kind of a mess with the loaf I decided to cook. 🍞 Sometimes you just got to experiment I guess. Maybe it would have been better if I added some olive oil, stevia or salt. All those apples I thought would give it enough sweetness I really made a mistake leaving out all salt from the mix. 🤮 Kind of like dinner — I decided to make brown rice with chicken, with soy sauce but that meal needed some sugar to sweeten it up and MSG to tickle the uamani side of things. 🍚 I’m so used to cooking with loads of spices that when I first tasted that rice with no spices I was shocked how bland it was. And to think 🤔 that’s how I started my healthy eating journey.

Today will have isolated showers after 10am. Partly sunny 🌦, with a high of 59 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 22nd. Southwest wind 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 2017.

Not sure what today’s plans are going to look like. ⛺ Seems like it would be nice enough to camp but cold. I wonder how many campsites would be taken at this point during the holiday weekend though yesterday would have been a complete soaker for camping. ☔ I’m thinking about going to the Green Mountains ⛰ though that’s an awful long trip for one night 🌃 that might be super cold. 🌬️ The forecast has improved but it’s going to be still quite windy and cold. But then again it’s Columbus Day Weekend. ⛵ That said, who knows how much longer there will be much color after the heavy rain and now the wind.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:44 pm with sun having an altitude of 41.6° from the due south horizon (-29.2° vs. V6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.8 footl shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 5:49 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (256°). 📸 The sunset is in the west (263°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:27 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 6:53 pm, which is one minute and 42 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 7:28 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 56 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 10 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Got the new bike 🚲 light 🔦 installed on my bicycle yesterday and it’s quite bright 🔆 from my initial before dawn testing this morning. I’m hoping if I get out today to camp I can do some night riding and see how great it really is. I love how it has USB charging built in and I can just plug in both the front and back lights for a charge while I’m home or at camp. No need to worry about batteries. 🔋

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌃 , with a low of 40 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 18th. South wind 7 to 9 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 36 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 2001.

Might be a decent night 🌃 for camping 🏕. As who knows about next week. I keep refreshing the forecast for Thomas WV and aren’t really sure what to think 🤔 about it. Still looks very cold and wet in the long range but things could change for sure.

I Guess Columbus Day Weekend Isn’t a Complete Washout 🌧 🤛🏻 ⛵ 🍂

Totally bummed out about this weekend, but maybe I shouldn’t be. It didn’t rain until quite late into the night and this morning the rain has slackened up quite a bit. Maybe it will be nice enough to go for a bike ride to Voorheesville or Five Rivers — and it might be pretty to check out the Pine Hollow Arboretum which amazingly enough I’ve never been there. Almost rain free-enough to make me wish I had headed out of town to get camping. Maybe tomorrow but it’s likely going to be cold and windy, and probably still damp. We’ll see come the morning, I got to start working on packing and thinking about West Virginia sooner rather then later.

Good morning! Happy Saturday on this rather Rainy Start to Columbus Day Weekend! Rain showers, at least a few drops of rain here and there and 65 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 63 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 10 am.

I slept in until 5:50 AM when my alarm went off ⏰ got up and make oatmeal-banana pancakes to start off my morning. 😵 Lots of coffee ☕ so I waited a while before heading out in case I had to piss up a storm, and ended up deciding bicycling was a safer option lest I needed to pee 🚽 or the sky opened up with rain. ☔

Today will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm. ⛈ Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Temperature falling to around 57 by 5pm. Southeast wind 7 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible. Yeah, even though it’s not raining right now, I’m glad I’m not camping in that kind of crap. That’s a lot of rain. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 71 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1963.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:44 pm with sun having an altitude of 42° from the due south horizon (-28.9° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 5:51 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (257°). 📸 The sunset is in the west (263°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:28 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 6:55 pm, which is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 The best time to look at the stars is after 7:29 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 56 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 11 mph. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over today.

Tonight will have showers, mainly before 1am. 🌧 Low of 47 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 3rd. Northwest wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1964.

For tomorrow, Sunday, things may improve. ⛅ A slight chance of showers before 8am, then a slight chance of showers after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Southwest wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. That wind will make it cool but maybe I should plan to do some biking and camping out of town. 🏕 I heard there is some pretty good color in the Catskills. And for Columbus Day, cool but mostly sunny, with a high near 59. South wind around 9 mph. That does seem like an improvement over earlier forecasts. 😀 My parents are out of town this weekend, so I won’t be visiting them this weekend, so I am kind of free to do whatever I want this weekend both days and I don’t have to rush home. I have enough clothes for the upcoming week for work, as it’s going to be cool and I wore t-shirt and shorts all last week, including the day I was off. 👖 I will have to go to the laundromat later in the week though before I head down to West Virginia. Assuming that’s where I end up — if it looks truly cold and wet for the following week I could change my plans to be closer to home, but regardless I plan to camp for the full week. 🤷‍♂️

I am watching the forecast for both here in Delmar, Wellsboro Penna and Thomas WV, 🌧 and I’m not pleased with how much rain I’m seeing, though 7 days out it really is just a crap shoot. The rain numbers are quite meaningless at this point as so much could change. If it rains on my drive down to WV it’s not the end of the world, I don’t need to take a million different side trips. I’ll skip the Pine Creek Rail Trail 🚂 and the C-O Canal Trail 🚲 until later in the week or not at all, and mostly just drive down, and hunker down at camp. 🚘 Once I’m in West Virginia once camp’s set up the rain is less of an issue. Indeed, the 8-14 day outlook suggests especially in West Virginia in the mid-Atlantic states it might be a fairly dry week but cool. 😎 I’ll take that as long as there isn’t snow. ❄️

I will be bringing my heater, and can hot tent if it’s really cold up in Canaan Heights but I want to have sunny days for hiking and bicycling, plus it makes the scenery better. ♨️ I hear they’re getting their first likely frost in the high country this weekend, so by next weekend it should still be close to peak color, without the crowds of Columbus Day Weekend. 👪 There is a reason I waited to later this year, plus it seems like autumn is occurring each year a bit later — and the High Country of West Virginia is more like the Hilltowns climate-wise then the mountains of New York due to the more southerly location.

I found my West Virginia maps including the Monongahela National Forest 🗺 along with the Pine Creek Rail Trail and several other Pennsylvania State Parks I may want to visit on the way down assuming it’s not raining. I am going to print up at work a few small scale maps of Canaan Heights and some other trails in the Otter Creek and Dolly Sods Wilderness at work, 🖨 assuming I can find a printer that still works in the office, lol. 🤣 No-ones going to care if I print up like four pages, assuming that the machine still works as nobody prints much anymore work-related. Then it’s just clothes and supplies to pack for camping. I will bring a fair amount of food with me, but only one cooler as it will be cool enough that most fruits and vegetables don’t need cooling, and I don’t eat nearly as much meat and dairy as I once did. 🥩 🥛 I’m not a vegetarian but healthier, whole foods that are low on saturated fats really don’t need as much refrigeration.

The past few days I’ve been getting a ton of blog traffic 🗺 🤖 I think with people looking for places to camp and hike for the Columbus Day Weekend. One day I pulled in over $10 in ad revenue, and I’m in the low-$30s of what I’ve pulled in over the past week and a half of running ads. I think I will be close to $70 by the end of month, and while I won’t get paid until I rack up $100 in revenue, I think by December 1st I’ll probably be getting my first check 💰 which could easily be above $130 by my own estimates, though it depends how much demand drops for my blog as the winter season approaches. ☃ Traffic usually drops fairly low in December and January. Maybe I need to do more maps relating to skiing and snowmobiling or winter camping locations. 🏕 But it will pick up again come April and May, having looked at my old web logs. It’s good because the $540 check to the web host goes out tomorrow for the next three years. Hopefully, within a year I’ll made enough from blog ads to be made whole, all while enjoying telling my story.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Daylight Savings Time Ends 🛥️ when the sun will be setting at 5:46 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. On that day in 2022, we had sunny, warm and temperatures between 71 and 46 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 54 degrees. We hit a record high of 76 back in 1994.

Catskills

Rain showers change everything 🌧️

I was going to take today off to go to the Adirondacks or Schoharie County or maybe the Green Mountains but the forecast is trending wetter then I expected. So I’m going to head into the office today to work and maybe reconsider a day off midweek next week to do something fun probably with the mountain bike.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Rain and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☔ Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 1 pm.

I guess I’m having the ultimate in fad breakfasts today, probably something they would eat on the colored television … 🥣 Reheated quinoa with chia seeds, topped with Greek yogurt, shredded apple with a ton of cinnamon and ginger and black coffee. ☕ I heard it’s National Coffee Day. Black is beautiful but don’t tell the teat strippers. 🐮 And I don’t want to drink too much, as my doctor says not to. 🚽  I did rehydrate well last night. At any rate, I actually doubt people on the colored television eat such things, 📺 not enough corporate profits manufacturing such things plus not enough sugar and saturated fats to keep people tossing it in their shopping carts. 🛒

Up and going this morning, ☺ with the rain I’m catching the early express downtown and will walk laps on the Plaza or the Knickerbocker Arena to get my steps 👣 as much as possible before work. I might walk down to the library 📚 after work, it depends on how wet it is but I could use a good book or two to read 📖. I really like getting up at five o’clock after getting to bed at nine. 🛏 Early to bed and early rise is great, especially when you have good meals cooking down on stove. 👨‍🍳 Not so much this morning, as I have plenty in my fridge cooked, and I’m cutting back on calories today after a heavy day yesterday.

Expensive day – $2,300 going out of the door 🚪 today for rent, car insurance, stock – bond purchases and the Roth IRA. That’s after getting paid $1,800 this week, so my account balance will drop to a hundred or so above the minimum. 🤯 I will have sufficient funds but I might tap my rainy day fund before my trip to West Virginia so I can retire some credit card 💳 debt early so I have extra room on my card for emergencies. It happens occasionally to the best of us. As my checking account isn’t interest bearing these days with inflation you don’t want to keep more than a few pennies above the minimum with the bank 🏦.

Today will rain, mainly after 7am. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 60 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around October 19th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 4pm. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 62 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1921.

I took off yesterday to do a day trip with my parents to the Adirondacks. ⛰ 📸 They’re getting up in the years and walking is hard for them so we didn’t go far from the car but in parts there was some nice color 🍂 and I showed them around Speculator, Piseco-Powley Road then Canal Place and Moss Island in Little Falls. It was a great trip, nice to spend a day with the family 👪 as in your forties you know those days won’t last forever. I made some really good hummus to have with lunch, mom made some good cheese and turkey wraps. 😋 Nice breeze on the lake, colors varied from good to quite muted. 🍁 We had a nice picnic on the shores of Lake Pleasant in Speculator then dinner at Poncho’s Mexican 🇲🇽 in Elsmere. It was good Mexican, the chips and food super greasy but that’s to be expected. Came home and had some edamame and butternut squash to have more fiber to tie down all those fats — with some ginger and tumerac because I like such things. 🌯 And no dessert. 😋 Chose a light breakfast today. It’s fun to have some junk with friends and family, especially knowing how fast time goes by so quickly.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:47 pm with sun having an altitude of 45° from the due south horizon (-25.8° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 6:05 pm with the sun in the west (261°). 📸 The sunset is in the west (268°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 6:42 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 54 seconds with dusk around 7:09 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waning Gibbous 🌖 Moon in the east (86°) at an altitude of 2° from the horizon, 229,425 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 7:43 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 58 degrees. The dew point will be 53 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over today.

Times of rain this evening. 🌧, with a low of 52 degrees at 4am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 18th. Maximum dew point of 53 at 6pm. North wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1991.

The rain clears out for the Saturday. 😀 A chance of showers before 8am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 68. North wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Not as nice of a forecast then they were predicting 🔮 but not a wash out.

I was originally planning on heading out to Rennselaerville State Forest and then Burnt-Rossman or maybe the Green Mountains 🌲🌳🏕️ before the forecast turned to rain ☔ today. Not sure what my weekend plans are now, I’m thinking I will rattle can over the rust on Big Red on Saturday.🖌️🛻 I could do an overnight somewhere but I have my doubts at this point. It might be better to stay closer to home, save some money, especially if I want to do some trail riding mid-week, and maybe head out of town next weekend. 🧀 Somehow I’m very interested in that whole Little Falls Cheese festival, which cow owners tell me is a really fun event to attend. This year Piseco-Powley would likely be at peak color for Columbus Day Weekend 🍂 so maybe that’s where I should go. The colors weren’t bad yesterday when I was up there with the folks.

Looking ahead to Sunday the first of October, sunny, ☀ with a high near 75. Maximum dew point of 57 at 4pm. Wow, that sounds like a beautiful day for starting out October. Basically perfect, when you figure the typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees. 🎃 Next to make more meals with pumpkin, lol. That might be a good day to play around on the mountain bike trails on Wolf Hill. 🚲 That is if I don’t decide to do an overnight somewhere. I don’t know.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until Buy Nothing Day 🛍️ when the sun will be setting at 4:27 pm with dusk at 4:57 pm (Standard Time). Day after Thanksgiving, seems so soon. 🦃 If there isn’t a ton of snow, I’ll probably head up north for that day, as rifle season is waning in those days. 🦌 Probably camp along NY 8, if I hike it will be a more popular trail with lots of blaze orange on. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 49 and 24 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 46 degrees. We hit a record high of 70 back in 2014.

Sun rises over Almost Heaven

Finally a beautiful Saturday out in Schoharie and Delaware County after so many crappy weekends 🚵🏊🏕️

After such a run of wet and bad weather we finally got a break and I got away from town. Awesome, although I will say that the pool is cold with the low dew point and the breeze. But it was great for hiking Platts Rocks then riding 26 miles round trip or the Catskill Scenic Trail. That said, I’m beat after all that bicycling, I barely want to hit the pool. But it’s fine, I got a shower and some pool time in and it will be closing for a bit and then be time to head up to camp.

Good evening! It’s been a pleasant day. Mostly sunny and 78 degrees at the Mine Kill State Park. There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 55 degrees.

Lol where to start! 😂 Last night turned out much better than forecasted so I ended up deciding to ride out to the Bender Mellon Preserve 🍉 and hiking around that for nearly an hour, exploring the outside parameter trail and taking a bunch of pictures after deciding 📸 the trail wasn’t so wet yesterday and the skies were interesting. Then I decided to ride out to Voorheesville, down Main Street then out past the Voorheesville High School and library then down the rail trail to Adams Place then snaked through the subdivisions back home. 🐍 By then it was late for packing for camp but I got some done like filling the water container and some other things but won’t say that I didn’t stay up late sitting out back and still had a bunch to do in the morning contributing to me not leaving until 9:30 am.

On my way out I realized I forgot toilet paper 🚽 and paper towels. Both are good for camping. What I ended up doing was going to Tops in Greenville and buying paper towels for both purposes. They’ll be good for both. Then I took NY 81 out to Oak Hill which is still closed west of there.

With the detour I ended up deciding to head over to Prattville and checking out Pratts Rock. What a beautiful day. 🏞 Finally got to the Catskill Scenic Trail in Grand Gorge at 12 noon, rode until 1:45 when I got to Hobart at 1:40 pm when I stopped at the park for a while 🚲 and headed south almost to South Kortwright but turned back as I wanted to be back to my truck as close as possible to 4 pm so I could shower 🚿 and cool down in the pool. 🏊‍♂️ Then off to camp at Betty Brook most likely though if the campsite on West Kill Road is open I might stay there.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 54 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 12th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 7pm. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening. Going to be a cool evening especially here in the mountains. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 45 occurred back in 1981.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon with 22% illuminated. At 5 PM, the moon was in the south (185°) at an altitude of 51° from the horizon, some 249,518 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by January 28th. Buckle up for safety! 💺 The moon will set in the west (273°) at 11:05 pm. The Strugeon 🐡 Moon is on Tuesday, August 1. The darkest hour is at 1:05 am, followed by dawn at 5:08 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:41 am in the east-northeast (61°) and last for 3 minutes and 17 seconds. Sunrise is 56 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 6:22 am with sun in the east-northeast (68°). Tonight will have 9 hours and 9 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 48 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 83 degrees at 5pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 3rd. Maximum dew point of 60 at 5pm. Calm wind. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 97 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1955.

I’m undecided about my plans for tomorrow. 💭 I still want to get to the farm stands of the Schoharie Valley 🌽 🍅 but I also kind of want to set up camp ⛺ and not have to secure it or take it down tomorrow. Plus I don’t love driving that rough Betty Brook Road, it’s tough on Big Reds aging suspension. 🚲 That said it could be a fun filled day. I might cycle from the Rest Area to Middleburgh, then poke around the village, get ice cream 🍦 then hike Vromans Nose 👃 and turn hit up the farm stands, head back to Mine Kill Pool and swim some more before camp. Monday I will park in Stamford, ride down to Bloomfield and maybe hike not drive Utsaythana followed by a swim at Mine Kill before going out to see the folks before vacation which starts Friday.

In four weeks on August 19 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (288°) at 7:55 pm,🌄 which is 34 minutes and 33 seconds earlier then today. In 2022 on that day, we had hot, mostly sunny and temperatures between 89 and 58 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 61 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1899.

I used to be so burly

And now I’m so tall and lanky compared to that picture on summer vacation three years ago with me wearing that second amendment t-shirt. The thing is the change was worth it, I’ve learned a lot about food and nutrition and I’m so much healthier these days, and my meals are so much filling without the hunger or extreme fullness I used to have.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Clouds, wildfire smoke and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁️ There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 66 degrees. The air quality index is 131, unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Today is the 200th Day of Year. ⏳Only 165 days remain. It will be 2024 before you know it, a fact that a lot of people are already a lot more focused on then I am. Maybe because lately the markets have been on such an upswing. 📈 I’m glad because the end of the year last year was so depressing. While there is storm clouds in the distance sometimes the storm breaks up and doesn’t hit and I’m young and I fundamentally believe that the US economy will continue to grow and if it slows too much the politicians will goose it and at least boost the markets. 🦆

Another hot and humid summer morning with the wildfire smoke 🌫 making everything look quite dull. At least there isn’t that acrid smell from the smoke currently like there was around dusk last night when I was riding back from Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. When you smell wildfire smoke it’s really not pleasant, more like smoldering PVC plastic then wood smoke. 🤮 And it kind of burns your lungs. Fortunately that’s not all the time, usually just around dusk when the air settles down.

Moving a bit slowly this morning 🛌 though I slept surprisingly soundly. I didn’t get out walking until nearly 6:40 AM as I hit the snooze button a few times ⏰ and then by the time I got downstairs, did the bathroom thing 🚽 and had some cold coffee ☕,  along with a hard-boiled egg I pulled out of the fridge, and a few carrots. 🏃 Did my walk, then came home and had some cream of wheat, fresh blueberries and Greek yogurt for breakfast with a side of some red kidney beans with a bit of sugar-free maple syrup. Black beans, farmer market tomato, mushrooms and another hard-boiled egg for lunch. Not sure yet what is for dinner, maybe brown rice and shrimp, though the shrimp is still frozen. Haven’t had that in a while.

Today will have isolated showers before noon, then scattered showers and thunderstorms between noon and 3pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Widespread haze. Partly sunny 🌦, with a high of 84 degrees at 2pm. Typical for today. Maximum dew point of 72 at 4pm. South wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became rain by afternoon. It was very sticky. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1953.

Payday today. 💵 Money hasn’t hit my checking account quite yet but I’m sure it will shortly. It better hit relatively soon as I will need it to pay the rent because I don’t have a lot of excess funds due to double paying my credit card 💳 and the bicycle 🚲 purchase. At least my bicycle license wasn’t expensive, only a single quarter or 25¢. It looks like they haven’t changed that fee since 1958. Next payday is during summer vacation 🏖 and it’s a three paycheck month. Good I’ll need it, lol. 😂 Today I made sure to bring deodorant into my office for after climbing the stairs. 👃

Electric bus 🚍 ⚡ downtown is well air conditioned though the way the driver is heading downtown with hard braking and acceleration it can’t be real fuel efficient. He’s pretty much on time but driving very aggressively this morning. 🔋

Solar noon 🌞 is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.4° from the due south horizon (-2.4° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:49 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (293°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-northwest (300°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:30 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 20 seconds with dusk around 9:02 pm, which is 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon in the west-northwest (296°) at an altitude of 6° from the horizon, 251,986 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 9:46 pm. At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 73 degrees. The dew point will be 69 degrees. There will be a calm wind. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. After riding out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center 🐸 and walking 🚶 around the preserve I spent some time reading 📖 then rode home around 8:30. Even with the new batteries 🔋 I was surprised how dim the lights were on my bike. Maybe I need to think about upgrading them eventually along with adding a better more comfortable seat. But I’m going to wait a while on that I’ve spent enough money and time on the bike for now. If the weather is decent tonight I might pick a different local preserve to visit like Norman’s Kill West or Bender Mellon Preserve. Or maybe I’ll just go for an ordinary walk down to the Elm Ave Park 🏞.

On this day in 1969, Senator Ted Kennedy from Massachusetts drives his car off a bridge and his passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, dies. 🚘 And in 1984, there were McDonald’s massacre in San Ysidro, California: In a fast-food restaurant, James Oliver Huberty opens fire, killing 21 people and injuring 19 others before being shot dead by police. 🙏 After that, California implemented strict new gun control in that state, and there have been no more mass shootings. 🔫 Aren’t you glad, the liberal agenda has saved the world.

A picture perfect summer weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10am. Summer humidity but not oppressively hot and humid, especially out in the mountains. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 82. Maximum dew point of 63 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 84 degrees.

I am pretty sure I’m going to take off Monday and do a three day weekend to swim 🏊‍♂️ at Mine Kill Pool and ride the Catskill Scenic Trail. 🚲 Do some camping 🏕 and get veggies at Shauls. I don’t really need that much time to pack for summer vacation in the Finger Lakes National Forest the following Friday. It’s my best chance to get away in a long time. Who knows what the rest of summer will look like. ☀ That said, I do see the weather pattern improving in the coming weeks. Or so I hope.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until August 🌻 when the sun will be setting at 8:17 pm with dusk at 8:48 pm. On that day in 2022, we had hot, partly sunny and temperatures between 89 and 69 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 101 back in 1933.

Looking East

You may leave here for five days in space – but when you return, it’s the same old place 🗻

Tuesday after the Long Weekend that I extended for a few days on ol Piseco-Powley. Not much has changed both up in the wilderness and from listening to the morning news. They’re just vamping for time, but then aren’t we all. There are summer days spent at Potholers and the rest of year.

Good morning! It’s cloudy and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁️ Calm wind. The dew point is 55 degrees. The air quality is index is a good 28. The skies will clear around 9 am.

I guess there is no Week at a Glance 🧑🏻‍💼but it’s a, session day today and tomorrow so after breakfast and showering, i need to put on my suit and tie and head off to work. 📧 My email didn’t seem like in a rush to sync last night and I didn’t push it until this morning to refresh. Really nothing happened when I was gone, the only thing changed less in the world over the weekend was Piseco-Powley Road since last summer. Actually, I think today was supposed to be wetter per last Thursdays forecast.

Today will be scattered showers between 1pm and 2pm, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 79 degrees at 4pm. Left the Potholers around 5 pm yesterday 🏊 and headed home via NY 29 to NY 10 Canajoharie to NY 162 to US 20. NY 29 was closed heading into Johnstown and taking this other route home avoids most of the cities besides Canajoharie and let’s you see much of the Mohawk Valley Farm Country. 🚜 It was a nice long weekend, very quiet but like always ended too quickly and I wish it had been warmer out. ☀

This weekend I want to look some more at used bicycles 🚲 as I want to start soon riding my bike to work and it would be great for getting around at camp ⛺. I especially want a bicycle come summer vacation 🏊‍♂️ of which I haven’t decided yet on a week but I have to discuss with the other director and figure out which weeks the Watkins Glen race 🏎 track is dark.

Looking ahead, there are 2 weeks until Independence Day 🇺🇸 when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 84 and 54 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 83 degrees. We hit a record high of 104 back in 1911. I wonder if they will give us off the Monday before the 4th of July this year as a holiday. That might be a nice perk and a good excuse to get I town again. Maybe the Green Mountains this year? Just a thought.
