January 1, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a west breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. The skies will clear around 11 pm.

Not a half bad evening for early January, I went out for the evening walk and then laid back in my bed catching up on my YouTube. 📹Mostly just the latest kind of silly update from Keith Fink dairy farm and their silly Jersey cows 🐮.

I had a nice New Years Day fondue with the parents and did my wash out there before coming home. 🍲 There was a crash on Route 32 so it was closed and I ended up being detoured over through Clarksville on the way home. It was fine but the road was dark after my exhaustion from last night I found the driving hard 🚘. Since adjusting my headlights night driving isn’t as bad but I still don’t really enjoy it.

It’s nice to be back home but I did enjoy my night out during the first night of the new year. 🎇 Granted that I only stayed out by the fire until quarter to eleven, then retiring to the warmth of the tent until midnight. Still not sure if I dosed off a bit in the tent before waking up shortly before midnight but it was watching the clock flip over to midnight and then shut off the heater and lights and retire to bed just like I plan to do shortly.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 26 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 16th. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 20 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1970.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent 🌒 Moon with 40% illuminated. At dusk you’ll see the moon in the south (178ยฐ) at an altitude of 42ยฐ from the horizon, some 252,272 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 Keeps getting farther away. Before you know it, you’ll have to plan an extra vacation day to dance on the moon. 🌕 The moon will set in the west (264ยฐ) at 11:04 pm. The darkest hour is at 11:59 pm, followed by dawn at 6:54 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:26 am in the east-southeast (121ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 24 seconds. Sunrise is 7 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 8:12 am with sun in the southeast (129ยฐ) at an altitude of 6ยฐ. Tonight will have 14 hours and 53 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 43 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 12th. I’ll take a sunny mid March like day in January. Too bad it couldn’t happen when I had it off. South wind 6 to 9 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1890. 7.1 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

I am thinking about washing my truck 🚿 tomorrow and going to the store although maybe if it’s going to rain on Friday or Saturday those would be better days once the salt is off the roads. The truck is so muddy from Madison County and so salty from driving up to Cole Hill. It really was a fun trip between the two nights but certainly different than the Finger Lakes trip I had originally envisioned. โ›บ

Somehow that said, I really liked getting away to Madison County. 🐮 It was just so muddy and brown this time of year but I kind of liked the rural character and how different it is from Albany. I just like seeing all the run down houses and farms, they’re real compared to the city, even if the farm country did have a very distinctive barnyard and wood smoke smell this time of year. Plus I like having my truck for camping – it’s a lot of work to drag my gear back to camp that half mile back I was camping last night. ๐Ÿ’ก Plus I like all the pretty Christmas lights although with my fully working gas lantern 🏮 it’s not that bad. That said camping last night was more fun than staying home. I really should think about getting back to Moscow Hill later in the winter, especially if they don’t have a ton of snow out there.

I did have quite a bit of trouble with the sled flipping hauling gear out. 💥Not sure the problem, I’m thinking I didn’t have the center of gravity low enough and the snow was cold and icy this morning unlike last night 🌃. Plus the tent poles were icy and I might have been a bit out of it from the previous late night. The propane tank is about half full now so it was sloshing around quite a bit. I got a late start too as I’ve been enjoying sleeping in lately.

I did notice some aching in my knee again today and my arm where I got the tick bite🙋. Mom thinks I should call 📞 the doctor 😷 and see about an appointment now and if I feel better before the visit cancel it. I’ve not been as sick as before I had the course of doxycycline but I do feel like at times I have the residuals of Lyme. I think I should make my health care a greater priority in the coming year – I really need to overcome the Lyme disease and start getting regular physicals and maybe start doing more high intensity exercises besides riding the exercise bike and walking. 🚲 I like the idea of doing more backpacking and back country camping โ›บ.

I’m also thinking about getting some mental healthcare this year. 💭 I’m learning more about how having good mental health can improve productivity and mood, plus it would be good to have somebody to bounce idea off of – what to do with my truck when tires wear out – do I keep having a truck, do I stay in Albany, do I go somewhere else and do something new in my life? My dreary basement office 🏢 is just so depressing. I keep learning about how many interesting opportunities there is out west, but am I too afraid to take the jump? ๐Ÿ˜ People have told me that I have depression and some of my frustration with the way things are going are due to it. Plus if the Lyme gets worse, rather than better counseling may be helpful. Just a stupid tick bite. 🐜

In four weeks on January 29 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (246ยฐ) at 5:04 pm,🌄 which is 31 minutes and 55 seconds later then tonight. That’s my 37th birthday. In 2019 on that day, we had snow and temperatures between 29 and 5 degrees. That was kind of busy, long day for me last year at work, hopefully now with my new 9-5 job it won’t be such a late night. Heck, maybe even get some of those drink specials after work. Typically, you have temperatures between 31 and 15 degrees. The record high of 54 degrees was set back in 2002.

Looking ahead, Bubble Bath Day 🧼 is in 1 week, 37th Birthday 🎉 is in 4 weeks, February 🌧 is a month away, March 🌨 is in 2 months, Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ is in 9 weeks, April Fools Day 🤡 is in 3 months, Pink Moon 🌕 is in 14 weeks, Tax Day 💰 is in 15 weeks, Earth Day 🌎 is in 16 weeks, May 🕊 is in 4 months, June 🍹 is in 5 months, Latest Sunset 🌆 is in 25 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 👴🏻 is in 55 weeks.

December 14, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Next Saturday is First Day of Winter โ˜ƒ๏ธ. Pine Bush Hike next too, supposed to be a ski trip from Madison Avenue Extension 🎿but I got my doubts that we will have much snow left by then. Rain, drizzle and fog 🌁 and 39 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 4 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Not a real nice morning, it’s not only foggy outside but also in my head. 🌁 I woke up early again this morning and had trouble getting back to sleep until I wandered downstairs and took a pee. 🚽 Little achy in my knees too but maybe that because I’ve been spending do much time on the exercise bike. 🚲 Then I got looking at some numbers and stats in Excel and the DEC data. I do have some new data with the DEC latest dump to update a few maps but honestly my map collection 🗾is pretty complete on the blog.

Today will rain likely, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 46 degrees at 1pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 21st. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Going to be a real dreary day but hopefully that will eat away at the snow. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1901. 12.5 inches of snow fell back in 1956.โ„

Today I am going to my parents house for their Christmas decorating party 🎄. Not going out tomorrow as I have the Save the Pine Bush benefit to go to tomorrow night. It’s kind of in the middle of the city which is annoying because there isn’t much bus service on Sunday night to take me there, so I’m going to have to drive there avoiding the red light camera intersections somehow. 🚦 I really hate driving in the city, my truck gets awful gas mileage on city streets and I might have to fuel โ›ฝ up tomorrow as I haven’t bought gas since the last time I was camping the week before Thanksgiving.

The sun will set at 4:22 pm with dusk around 4:54 pm, which is 12 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 42 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 9 hours and 4 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain likely, mainly before midnight. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 36 degrees at 5am. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 30th. Breezy, with a south wind 6 to 11 mph becoming west 18 to 23 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1874.

Probably won’t be walking tonight 🚶
but instead riding the exercise bike 🚲 and watching some YouTube videos. At least I won’t have to worry about slipping and falling on the bike compared to walking on icy sidewalks. Two nights ago there was a fair amount of black ice in parts.

Today in 1994, started construction begins on the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze river. โ›ฒ The Three Gorges Dam has been the world’s largest power station in terms of installed capacity (22,500 MW) since 2012. In 2014, the dam generated 98.8 terawatt-hours (TWh) and had the world record, but was surpassed by the Itaipรบ Dam, which set the new world record in 2016, producing 103.1 TWh.

Also, today was a notable date in civil rights history, with the release of the Heart of Atlanta Motel, Inc. v. United States, 379 U.S. 241 (1964), 💖a landmark United States Supreme Court case holding that the Commerce Clause gave the U.S. Congress power to force private businesses to abide by Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination in public accommodations.🏰

One month 📅 from now will be Coldest Week of the Year 🌬 when the sun will be setting at 4:45 pm with dusk at 5:16 pm. The average high temperature is 30 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895. It’s already pretty cold โ„ in my book 📙 but it could be colder and will get colder. And I’m half seriously thinking about eventually living off-grid in the much colder Wisconsin, a bit in a world where the climate has warmed a fair amount more over the next ten to 15 years.

East Off Stony Ledge

November 24, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Rain and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a north-northwest breeze at 11 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It was nice camping โ›บ up north in the Adirondacks, and I was surprised that it wasn’t as loud as it sometimes is camping along the East Branch of the Sacanadaga River. Traffic just seemed lighter than normal but I don’t think Gore is open yet nor is snowmobile season and big game hunting season is winding down in the Northern Zone, a lot of people have already tagged out. That said almost all of hunting cabins up north that I passed looked fully occupied with smoke coming out the chimney and lots of pickup trucks parked out front.

Lot more snow than I expected โ„, although not really based on the snow fall estimates which are usually pretty good. Maybe four inches of snow at camp – not real deep but enough that I was glad the site was plowed out by the hunter who had the campsite for the season before they tagged out – probably yesterday – and packed up and left. They also left a ton of firewood 🔥 which was nice, although some of it was particle and chip board although both after I took my axe to it burned well and didn’t stink that much much.

Because I had so much wood I ended up hanging out in camp and starting the fire early 🔥, shoveling around as needed. I didn’t set up a hot tent because I didn’t want to have to dry out my tent in the morning. It did get a bit cold by the fire late around ten as I forgot to pack Long Johns and Wool Socks but once I was under the covers in my truck I was plenty warm. If I go back out on Black Friday to camp – possibly back to the same place – I’ll probably pitch a tent as it’s always nice to have a warm tent to curl up before bed in.

I sat back and had a nice breakfast. 🍳 There was light snow during the overnight, maybe an inch, but by 8 am the roads were just wet. Then relaxing next to the heater โ™จ, working on some blog posts in the winter wonderland until quarter to ten, while slowly taking down camp, it started to sleet then turn to big globs of snow. โ„ By the time I broke camp, the roads had started to ice up a bit with the fallen snow. South of Wells the snow was about an inch deep on NY 30 but after a slow slog down to Northville, the roads were just wet. I drive super slow and carefully on the icy roads because I do so little winter driving these days 🚘 – and I know if it takes a little longer than necessary to get home safely – it’s still a shit ton better than getting in a crash. Really foggy 🌁 in Amsterdam.

It’s nice being in the wilderness and having a big fire. 🐺 The woods is my happy place where I can make as much noise as I want with my music 🎶 and guns 🔫 and have a nice fire. 🔥 Tossing a wrapper in the fire and watching it burn down to nothing and unzipping my jeans and peeing where ever I want is the best! Few things are quite as warming as a wood fire although that 18,000 BTU heater feels great at camp. Listening 👂 to the birds 🐦 this morning and the coyotes late last night. I can’t wait until I can live a life like this permanently. Not next year but eventually. Living in the city is convenient but I ducking love 😍 the wilderness and the countryside.

This afternoon will rain before 3pm, then rain and snow likely. 🌧 High of 37 degrees at 1pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 11th. Northwest wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 2014. That said, a few weeks later I remember snow camping in the Adirondacks. 8.8 inches of snow fell back in 1898.โ„

Heading out to the folks house for Sunday dinner around four. 🍲 Warm enough and will stay warm so I expect the roads won’t be bad like they were up north for a while. That said things can change but it’s not that far for a slow pace or staying overnight if necessary.

The sun will set at 4:26 pm with dusk around 4:57 pm, which is 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and snow 🌨 and temperatures around 36 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 28 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers before 7pm, then a slight chance of snow showers between 7pm and 9pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 32 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 16th. Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1938.

Tuesday morning I’m going to the Urgent Care to get my arm checked out 🙋. Five bucks more per copay then my regular doctor who is currently closed. I’m sure they’ll say it’s Lyme and they’ll put me on antibiotics and the aches and occasional severe headaches will fairly quickly go away. It’s become more noticeable since the bulls eye appeared, especially in the arm but I’m sure I’ve had Lyme Disease since I got the tick bite mid October. 🎯It’s not that bad now but I know it will get worse untreated and they’re so much better at addressing Lyme disease than even a few weeks ago. I was hesitant to go and get tested before I had the bulls eye because the test sometimes comes back false negative if you get tested too quickly and I didn’t want the doctor to thank me for the co-payment and send me on my way untreated. 😷

Also need to get a hair cut.💈 My hair has so quickly gotten shaggy. I did shave my goatee back 🐐 as that was getting kind of long and nasty. But the hair I can’t do myself. 💇

My buck fifty cellphone holder 📱I got from AliExpress broke so I couldn’t have Waze open to display my speed yesterday and I blew past a cop 👮 accidentally pm Interstate 890 🚔but fortunately I did not get pulled over. My speedometer is not accurate on Big Red with the lift kit so I always use Waze to know my speed. That said, for me to blow past a cop means doing 60 mph in a 55 zone which is probably what half the motorists are doing all the time. I should get another one. AliExpress is mad cheap but the quality is a crap shoot and it will take a month or two to arrive on the boat from China. 🚤

Definitely thinking about heading back north on Friday depending on the weather. โ›บ Maybe the same site but two nights, plus some hiking and time in the woods with my shotgun. This time I will pitch a tent and hot tent. I really should hook up the low voltage disconnect reset as in the cold and long nights it seems like occasionally the battery voltage dips but probably could be used longer without turning the truck on if I reconnected the reset button.

Propane camp lantern 🏮 isn’t working at all now. Not sure the issue although I suspect the generator tube that pressurizes the gas is fully plugged with mud and soot. During my October camping trip I was having problems with it producing a ton of black soot and burning dimly. I would like to fix it although I’m considering getting an LED lantern like my parents use and putting rechargable batteries in it it or maybe getting a lantern that can be charged by plugging into the USB ports on my truck. LED lanterns are a lot less fragile but probably not as bright as the propane and they need to recharged. Gotta think about it more. 💭

Speaking of broken shit my portable radio 📻 needs a new battery. The rechargable lithium ion BL – 5C battery it came with has failed, it barely holds a charge and it’s gotten all bloated from overcharging or another failure internally of the lithium ion cell. So bloated the battery cover won’t even fit on the radio.🔋 I’m hesitant to charge it now without watching it lest it go thermal and burn up. Years ago I was burning some camp trash and a little CR 2025 button cell got tossed in the fire and man did that go bang. 💥Moral of the story, don’t mess with lithium ion cells.

As previously noted, next Sunday is December 🎄 when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 45 and 31 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1934.

Across Cedar River Flow

April 14, 2019 Night

Good evening! Modestly heavy rain and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a east-northeast breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 48 degrees. Evidently, I’m not going for my evening walk tonight. I did however ride the excerise bike for about an hour watching videos from Keith Fink’s Farm YouTube channel and one from Computerfile. The skies will clear tomorrow around 11 pm.

I have to admit I’ve kind of gotten to like watching YouTube videos I’ve downloaded for watching at home. That youtube-dl script is pretty awesome for that. ๐Ÿ“น While I don’t watch commercials television or professionally produced shows I do like watching videos and hunting, trapping and fishing, farming and off-grid living. And sometimes camping. It makes time riding on the excerise bike ๐Ÿšฒ go by quickly. While in many ways I prefer podcasts, videos can sometimes take you places where you can’t go just by audio. Plus the kind of videos I watch on my excerise bike aren’t the rot your brain like on commercial television. Sure, probably watching a farmer birth calves or seed ๐ŸŒฑ oats isn’t intectually stimulating but it’s fascinating.

Today was another automobile free day for me. ๐Ÿš˜ I walked out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center and then took the bus ๐Ÿš and walked over to John Wolcott’s house. ๐Ÿ“‚ I didn’t find a lot of interesting files over the four and half hours of study and sorting this time but you never know what you are going to find. I prefer walking ๐Ÿšถ and transit when I’m in town not only to save money ๐Ÿ’ต but because you see and experience more on foot.

Tonight will have showers, with thunderstorms also possible after midnight. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง Low of 55 degrees at 9pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around June 2nd. Now if it wasn’t raining it would be a really nice evening. Warming through the night. Maximum dew point of 55 at 1am. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ East wind 9 to 14 mph becoming south after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1940.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 85% illuminated. The moon will set at 4:26 am. The Pink Moon ๐ŸŒ• is on Thursday night with a mostly cloudy skies then chance of showers. The sun will rise at 6:14 am with the first light at 5:45 am, which is one minute and 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 36 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers, mainly before 8am. Temperature rising to near 60 by 10am, then falling to around 47 during the remainder of the day. Breezy, with a southwest wind 7 to 12 mph becoming west 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became rain by afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2003. 2.4 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

I am not looking forward to defensive driving tomorrow because I generally think motoring ๐Ÿ is an unpleasant experience but it’s good to learn about the latest laws and safety techniques. So many of the safety videos are boring or obnoxious. Lots of time though to doodle and daydream a bit. But I like saving 10% on my car insurance.

I’m going to research other insurance companies and plans though and possibly look at a more affordable plan before my insurance expires at the end of the month of September. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ It’s important to have good coverage but I’m not sure if my plan – which is the same as my parents have had for decades with minor changes still makes sense for me. $920 a year for insurance when my truck is no longer new, I don’t drive daily and I’ve never gotten a ticket ๐ŸŽซ or chargeable accident seems excessive. I might look at reducing my liability insurance and under insured motorists a bit – I would hate to be sued in court beyond what my insurance will cover in a severe crash but I realize such a crash caused by me is fairly unlikely because I primarily drive on rural roads and not in congested areas.

The long range doesn’t look that great for Easter weekend. Major bummer! ๐Ÿ˜ž No camping Easter Weekend ๐Ÿฐ I guess. Next Saturday, showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Maximum dew point of 55 at 6am. Next Sunday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 61 degrees.

I am most likely looking at camping โ›บ in two weeks possibly taking off the Thursday and Friday of that week. I’ll miss the Save the Pine Bush Hike but I’d rather spend more time up in the wilderness as it’s been a long time since I’ve spent time overnight in the woods. ๐Ÿ”ฅ A nice campfire, and waking up to a sunrise in the wilderness would be wonderful.

In four weeks on May 12 the sun will be setting at 8:07 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 23 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 50 and 48 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 68 and 46 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1881.

Looking ahead, Easter ๐Ÿฐ is in 1 week, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 3 weeks, Mothers Day ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€ is in 4 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 9 weeks, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 3 months (black flies will be gone by then), Altamont Fair Opens ๐ŸŽก is in 4 months, Sunset Before 7:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 20 weeks, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 23 weeks and Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 26 weeks.

February 4, 2019 Morning

Good Monday Morning! Two weeks to Presidents Day ๐Ÿ‘ด. Or as the federal government calls it, Washington’s Birthday. Only New York celebrates president’s day in its laws. Partly cloudy and 40 degrees in Delmar. โ›… There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground, melting fast with the warmer weather. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 8 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Assuming the unlikely case I get out of work at a reasonable hour, it will be nice for my evening walk.

I was running a bit late this morning, ๐ŸšŒ but I checked my phone and so was the bus. ๐ŸšWorked out fine. I just fell behind a bit by the time I got out of bed and my shirt ironed. But it wasn’t too bad, and the bus driver made pretty good time, so I wasn’t in that late. All worked out on this increasingly sunny morning — it started out gray but is changing and is expected to be quite nice by afternoon.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 52 degrees at 1pm. 20 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 1st. No fooling around about today’s weather, for sure. Hazy though. South wind around 6 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became snow by afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1991. 15.5 inches of snow fell back in 1926.โ„

The sun will set at 5:13 pm with dusk around 5:42 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 51 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 28 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers, mainly after midnight. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 40 degrees at 5am. 25 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 22nd. South wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had light freezing rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -15 occurred back in 1918.

Tomorrow will have isolated showers before 10am. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 50 degrees at 11am. 18 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around March 28th. South wind 8 to 15 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became snow by afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1890. 10.4 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

Another weekend came and went. I’m a bit relaxed and caught up on sleep on Sunday morning but now it’s back to the grind on the Monday morning. ๐Ÿ’ผ Since it warmed up Big Red has worked well, although I wish I had given him a bath but I figured it would be covered with salt by the time I got home from my parents house after Sunday dinner.๐Ÿš—

Did a bunch of cleaning yesterday, got the paper and scrap clothing to the recycling center at the park and ride, compacted the recycling and got that outside, bought some ant spray and sprayed down well where they are coming from.๐Ÿœ Didn’t see any ants this morning. I’m hoping with the spray, the bait, and my cleaner kitchen the ant problems will be done. It’s unusual that they became a problem mid winter, I must have tracked them in, maybe with a shopping bag or something. That’s were I first found them. I’m sure the spray is pretty toxic but I’m careful where I spray it, I followed the label and believe in science.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Presidents Day ๐Ÿ‘ด when the sun will be setting at 5:31 pm with dusk at 6:00 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 40 and 23 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 35 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1981. I am hoping for a nice weekend, as that might be good for getting out and doing some camping and traveling.

Cool but sunny this weekend. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 26. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 30. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees. Maybe I will get out and skiing. I might go up to the Adirondacks, although at this point, I am thinking more about doing a trip during the three-day weekend for Presidents Day two weekend out. I will re-evaluate as the weekend approaches.

In four weeks on March 4 the sun will be setting at 5:49 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 45 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had snow showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 38 and 32 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 22 degrees. The record high of 59 degrees was set back in 1919. Looking forward toย much warmer weather now that spring is only 45 days away.๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒท

Finally muted those obnoxious indicator lights in my bedroom. Painted the LEDs with black paint on the various development boardsย ๐Ÿ–Œ that I have strung in my bedroom powering the various lights I have around.๐Ÿ’ก I didn’t find the tiny red LED indicators to be that annoying but the blue LED power indicator on the buck converter was obnoxiously bright. The buck converter saves power but the blue light pollution it created in my bedroom was obnoxious. The black paint I got at the store made it much darker.๐Ÿ”ฆ

I’m continuing to work on the code for my new LED light controller. The sunrise and sunset modes are working well, although I’m still trying to smooth the color transitions. ๐ŸŒŒ The hooks for firing automatically are basically done but I need to do some more debugging as things are not firing always correctly. Things would be much simpler if I had just used my old one source file code but I wanted to make the new system much more modular and object oriented code and make it possible to create many more color and light modes then was possible using an IR remote and the old 8 bit microprocessor of the Arduino Nano.โ™‹

The other day I was thinking how nice it was to have that longer 6 ft micro USB cable to hook up to my development boards that I use for my projects. It means that I can leave my laptop in its normal place and just run a wire. But unfortunately a wire on that cable broke. ๐Ÿ”Œย Then I accidentally bought a 6 foot USB C cable rather than a micro USB cable at the store.ย Before I realized my mistake, I had already disassembled the packaging for recycling, so I don’t think I can return it. But I don’t think it’s a big deal, because I’m sure a phone or some other technology I buy eventually will be USB C, as it’s the future.

Looking ahead, Presidents Day ๐Ÿ‘ด is in 2 weeks, Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ is a month away, April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก is in 8 weeks, Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ is in 10 weeks, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 11 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 3 months, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 16 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 21 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 5 months and Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 27 weeks.

December 10, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Happy 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ! Lol, maybe back in Albany. On a cloudy day like today it was pretty dark until 7:45. Three weeks to New Years Eve 🎆. Cloudy and 24 degrees in Hector. โ˜ There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. Definitely a winter day, not good for sitting around. Things will start to thaw out at Friday around 10 am. 🌡๏ธ

Today will be cloudy โ˜, with a high of 27 degrees at 1pm. 11 degrees below normal. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Kind of a cold winter day although when you’re gathering firewood doesn’t seem so cold. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies with more clouds in the afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 64 was set in 1966. A few decades ago I might say. 6.1 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

The sun will set at 4:34 pm with dusk around 5:05 pm, which is 4 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 26 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 20 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical night around December 18th. Maximum wind chill around 11 at 3am; Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 9 mph after midnight. In 2017, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1988.

Bisquick biscuits for breakfast with cheese. A big pot of coffee. While it’s cloudy and occasional snow flurries I don’t think it’s that cold out compared to yesterday but maybe I’m just moving more. The best way to get warm is head out in the woods and chop wood. Much more fun than being home. 😎 Looking forward to seeing more sun though tomorrow. If it’s nice I might go up to Montezuma and Seneca Falls, that’s to be decided. It’s a bit of a drive and I’m not sure I want to drive after dark.

Yesterday I made stew for lunch and dinner and fixed up campsite a bit more. Had a good supply of wood, so I had a nice fire. 🔥 Stew was okay but I think I’d want to use other spices and maybe flour rather than Bisquick next time. Beef stewed up nicely although the pot was black from the stove operating at low with the stoichiometric ratio off causing a lot of soot. Usually propane is a very clean fuel but it can burn dirty if things are not working properly.

A lot of people were out hoping for a good final day of regular deer season 🔫 but I saw nobody dragging a deer out of the woods. Noisy though as people headed out loading shotgun shells in their guns, clinking the action especially when the one big group went out yesterday. Saw one black powder guy today but he was comparatively much quieter.

Thinking about going down to Trumansburg today just because it’s relatively close and I want to charge up the batteries and drive the truck at highway speed to make sure things are better lubricated and charged compared to idling. I probably top off the gas and also go for a walk at Taughannock Falls as I’m curious what it looks like in the winter. 🗻

It’s been a good trip so far. Cold and dark yes, but it’s December and that’s to be expected. But I have lights and heat and the long nights have improved my sleep, as I climb under the covers after shutting off the heat in my toasty warm tent. โ›บ I often have trouble sleeping in the late autumn, although the red lights in my room have improved that but I still wake up a lot at home st night. But at camp I seem to sleep much better. 💤

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until New Years Eve 🎆 when the sun will be setting at 4:44 pm with dusk at 5:16 pm. On that day in 2017, we had snow, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 8 and -2 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 32 degrees. We hit a record high of 61 back in 1895.
