Chance of Thunder Lean To

Last week I got an email requesting a list of lean-tos on state land that have full accomindations - that is an outhouse or pit privy. So I made up that list, and figured I'd share it as some might find it useful.

March 18, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Saturday around 7 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Today wasn’t a terrible day, sunny and I didn’t have to work in a basement office. 🏒 That said, I am a bit more concerned about keeping my laptop charged and working all day tomorrow without the sunshine. Going to be kind of cold too. Well I’ll do the best I can do, put one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward. 🚢 It was for a while so crowded at Five Rivers but once I plowed into my work I kept things going. Then I went for a walk but I was always annoyed how hard it was to remain six feet away from others – people didn’t want to protect your personal space while I was out walking. 😷 Busy day tomorrow with both morning and afternoon meetings, and I’m hoping my solar will hold out all day.

Tonight will have a chance of rain between midnight and 3am, then rain and snow. 🌧 Low of 37 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 11th. South wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1967.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent 🌘 Moon with 23% illuminated. The Pink 🌸 Moon is on Thursday, April 2. The darkest hour is at 1:04 am, followed by dawn at 6:34 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:02 am in the east (90Β°) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:39 am with sun in the east (97Β°). Tonight will have 11 hours and 53 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain and snow before 10am, then a chance of rain between 10am and 2pm. 🌧 High of 45 degrees at 4pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 17th. East wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 2012. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 1971.❄

So it looks like in three weeks I’ll do my camping trip β›Ί. Not totally sure where I will go, it depends on how many days I have off and ultimately where I decide to go. The Northern Adirondacks might be nice for a change. πŸ—» There might still be snow up there – I don’t trust they winter is fully over yet. β›„ Only time will tell.

In four weeks on April 15 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (284Β°) at 7:37 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 32 minutes and one second later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 63 and 41 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 58 and 37 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 2003.

Looking ahead, April Fools Day 🀑 is in 2 weeks, Pink Moon πŸŒ• is in 3 weeks, Tax Day πŸ’° is in 4 weeks, Average High is 60 🌼 is a month away, Earth Day 🌎 is in 5 weeks, Flower Moon πŸŒ• is in 2 months, Latest Sunset πŸŒ† is in 14 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 πŸ‘΄πŸ» is in 44 weeks.

 Low Tide

March 1, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy March 🌨! Finally things should start to get a bit warmer. Average high by the end of the month is around or may be above fifty and maybe even warmer if the trend continues. Next Sunday is Daylight Savings Time 🌆. Mostly sunny and 27 degrees at the Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. There is a northwest breeze at 15 mph. 🍃. That breeze makes things kind of raw today for my walk which I delayed out to Five Rivers 🚶. Its not so bad in the Vlomans Kill Valley but not elsewhere in Things will start to thaw out at around 3 pm. 🌡️

A cold day today with the wind 🍃. The sun is nice but the wind is bone up chilling. I woke up this morning with a bit of a headache πŸ‘Ώ and a little achy but not so bad that I missed my Sunday walk 🚶 to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. I probably have Coronavirus but I haven’t drunk any beer 🍻 since my birthday 🎂 over a month ago, and I was drinking Blue Moon 🎑. Honestly, I’m looking forward to Corona beer being on sale come the summer so I can have a nice cold drink with a lime come summer. 🍋

Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 35 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 18th. Northwest wind 11 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 2017. 10.7 inches of snow fell back in 2005.❄

I think later today I’ll go out to Huyck Preserve 💦 and check out the water falls assuming that I have time before going out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. 🍲 I can’t believe another week has come to a close and next weekend will be Daylight Savings Time. At least it’s a sign that nicer weather is coming. β˜€

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 40Β° from the due south horizon (-30.8Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 5:08 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (254Β°). 📸 The sunset is in the west (261Β°) starting at 5:43 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 6:13 pm, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter 🌓 Moon in the south-southwest (209Β°) at an altitude of 63Β° from the horizon, 244,820 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 6:47 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 31 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers after 3am. Increasing clouds 🌧, with a low of 23 degrees at 10pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 8th. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of -4 occurred back in 1940.

Today you better remember your reusable bag 🛄 if you’re planning on shopping. I am not – I have enough groceries and will run to the store later in the week 🏬 and maybe wash my truck again. I’m thinking 💭 about going to John Wolcott house 🏡 on Monday but it all depends on how I feel.

I also am working on rewriting the media engine for the blog 📝 to handle the historical photos with before and after pictures you can drag across. The main issue is fixing it so that you can have two photos associated with one media type. It can be done but will require some changes to the code to make it work. It will be neat when it’s done.

🌹🌻🌼Only 18 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

As previously noted, next Sunday is Daylight Savings Time 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 6:54 pm with dusk at 7:22 pm (Daylight Savings Time). Fantastic but it will make the weekend go by in a blink. On that day in 2019, we had cold weather like today, but mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 34 and 7 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 41 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 2012.

Pine Bush Hike tomorrow 🚶 and I’ll have other chances to get out and enjoy the fresh air through the weekend.

Tonight will have a New 🌚 Moon with 2% illuminated. The Worm 🐛 Moon is on Sunday, March 8. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:17 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:45 am in the east-southeast (104Β°) and last for 3 minutes Sunrise is one minute and 30 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:24 am with sun in the east-southeast (111Β°). The record high of 68 was set in 1997. 14.8 inches of snow fell back in 1893.❄

Scutt Road

NY 41 Heading Into Smithville Flats

March 22, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Three weeks to Grilled Cheese Day πŸ§€. A mix of rain and snow flurries and 34 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. ❄ Above freezing here but I saw a sander come through while I was walking down to the park and ride.🚚 There is a north breeze at 10 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around noontime. β˜ƒοΈ

I was on the fence about walking 🚢 down to the express bus 🚍 but ultimately I decided it wasn’t raining or snowing all that hard. It turned out not to be too bad for walking and I got some free exercise out of it. Just going to be one of those rainy β˜” Fridays.

Today will rain and snow, becoming all rain after noon. 🌧 High of 41 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 11th. Northwest wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2012. 7.0 inches of snow fell back in 1887.❄

I guess rain β˜” is a good thing, as it will keep things from getting too dried out, and thaw out the ground for all the farmer 🚜 types that want to sling manure. πŸ’© Lots of mud though. I think they are getting wet snow in the Adirondacks πŸ—» which means it will be longer before it melts away up there. It will happen though, as spring 🌸 always comes eventually and it will be ninety degrees out and humid. Beach weather!πŸ–

The sun will set at 7:10 pm with dusk around 7:38 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for even more rain 🌧 and snow 🌨 and temperatures around 37 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain and snow, becoming all snow after 10pm. 🌧 Low of 27 degrees at 6am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 21st. Blustery, with a northwest wind 14 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. In 2018, we had partly cloudy. It got down to 30 degrees. The record low of -04 occurred back in 1875.

Tomorrow will have a chance of snow showers before 8am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 39 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 3rd. Breezy, with a northwest wind 21 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 80 was set in 1938. 2.7 inches of snow fell back in 2005.❄ Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 54. West wind 6 to 8 mph. Typical average high for the weekend is 47 degrees.

At some point this weekend I should go to JC Penny and see if they have any dress shirts that I like πŸ‘š, so I have enough for next week. I haven’t heard back from John yet about going over to his house, it also depends if I get a cold. Still thinking about doing some hiking or skiing 🎿 this weekend, it depends on how things go. I’d rather save some money now if the weather isn’t great and do things around home if it looks cloudy and cold. Maybe also I want to unpack my camping gear, and start loading up the cans 🍾 and glass πŸ₯«to take to the recycling center.β™» I also need to clean out my refigerator, dump the food waste into compost, and clean the containers for recycling.

I signed up for defensive driving 🚘 on April 15th. Cost has gone up to $25, makes me want to think about doing an online class in future years. I’ve been thinking about readjusting my insurance or shopping around – it’s gotten a lot more expensive in recent years ever since I increased my liability insurance a few years back. πŸ’£

Later that week maybe on the 17th or 18th of April, right before Good Friday, I will probably head up to the Adirondacks to camp β›Ί and fish.🎣 I am increasingly leaning towards doing a trip heading up NY 30, spread out over a couple of days, maybe spending one night near the St. Regis Canoe Area, ending the long weekend at Brasher State Forest. All depends a lot on how much snow they have up there, and what I feel like doing. A Central NY trip, fishing the Chittenango Creek and Genegantslet Creek, visiting different state forests could be fun too, but I kind of want to get up to the Adirondacks. I should study the stocking schedules, 🐟 so I know where would be a good place to fish.

In four weeks on Good Friday, April 19 the sun will be setting at 7:42 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 56 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had cold, partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 44 and 34 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 60 and 39 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1976.

Looking ahead, Grilled Cheese Day πŸ§€ is in 3 weeks, Earth Day 🌎 is a month away, Pack Rat Day πŸ€ is in 8 weeks, Memorial Day Weekend Starts πŸ•οΈ is in 9 weeks, Average High is 80 πŸ– is in 3 months, Dog Days of Summer 🌻 is in 15 weeks, Labor Day Weekend Begins πŸ‘¨β€πŸ is in 23 weeks and Autumn πŸ‚ is in 6 months.
