May 4, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. That breeze makes it’s a bit cold. After my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ I came inside and are laying on my bed.

Fairly quiet day at work today ๐Ÿ’ผ so I brought my laptop to the laundromat and worked there. Got my wash and sheets done and then worked down at the library parking lot on my laptop. Got a bunch of videos and data for future blog projects and uploaded a bunch of content to the blog. ๐Ÿ’ป

Walking on my evening walk ๐Ÿš I saw a CDTA bus. You don’t see so many of them now that they are running only the Saturday schedule and with so few people riding them. Seems so werid to see the buses now they it’s been eight weeks since the buses shut down except for the bare bones ๐Ÿ’€schedule ๐Ÿšand working from home.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 33 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. Northwest wind around 10 mph. Cold night barely above freezing. My windows are closed. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1974.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 92% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (158ยฐ) at an altitude of 44ยฐ from the horizon, some 226,299 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 23rd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:53 am, followed by dawn at 5:15 am, and sun starting to rise at 5:46 am in the east-northeast (67ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 9 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 17 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:26 am with sun in the east-northeast (74ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 56 degrees at 4pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 11th. Northwest wind 11 to 14 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 58 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1900.โ„

Going to be cold but sunny tomorrow. โ˜€ It would be nice to work out back but I think it will be too cold. I do need to get milk ๐Ÿฎ in the morning, I’ll probably buy two gallons so I’m good for the week. Next week is Stewart’s Half Gallon Ice Cream sale ๐Ÿจ๐Ÿง๐Ÿฆand I’m definitely looking forward. That said, I should probably cut back as lately I’ve been putting on weight. Despite my efforts to get out walking ๐Ÿšถ it seems like I don’t get as much walking as I did when I was catching the bus ๐Ÿš downtown.

In four weeks on June 1 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (302ยฐ) at 8:26 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 32 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 81 and 49 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 52 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1918.

Still chewing over my summer vacation plans โ›บ but with the pandemic much may change. I’m still thinking about Piseco Powley Road for a week if I can get a camping permit for the weekend week. In a campsite with a lot of sun for the solar ok my truck and the screen house for buggy and rainy days. And maybe a swimming ๐ŸŠ hole within walking distance.

Looking ahead, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 2 weeks, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 3 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 4 weeks and Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 7 weeks.

April 24, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 47 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒƒ Calm wind.

I am getting up early for a sunrise ๐ŸŒ… hike tomorrow so I got to get to sleep. Otherwise I’d be sitting out back, enjoying the nice evening weather. I’m actually surprised that my neighbors don’t have a fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ out back it’s a nice evening but maybe they have to work tomorrow.

Went to the laundromat and worked from there ๐Ÿ‘š in my truck while doing my wash. Between the roomy cab of my truck and the Wi-Fi this is a pretty good place to work in my opinion. ๐Ÿ’ป Beats my uncomfortable chair at home and the sluggish cellular internet that I have to be so darn careful to keep just for work. On my personal laptop on the Wi-Fi I can update my blog or go to any web site I want and it’s fast. Later on I walked down to the park โ›ฒ and did my evening walk.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 37 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 15th. Calm wind. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 23 occurred back in 1965.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 3% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the west (279ยฐ) at an altitude of 15ยฐ from the horizon, some 247,513 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by October 29th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The moon will set in the west-northwest (293ยฐ) at 9:26 pm. The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:54 am, followed by dawn at 5:30 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:00 am in the east-northeast (71ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 3 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 29 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:39 am with sun in the east-northeast (78ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 9 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 37 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 62 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 23rd. Light north wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2009. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1928.โ„

This should be a really nice day. I’m planning on spending most of the afternoon hiking at Partridge Run ๐Ÿšถ and then I may spend a night at a different state forest in the hammock โ›บ but it depends. Not going to be super cold tomorrow if I wear my hoodie and pack some blankets. Maybe have a little fire back in the woods then fall asleep to the sounds of woods. Looks like the rain โ˜” won’t come until fairly late on Sunday or at least I’ll be up quiet early on Sunday should I decide to spend the night.

In four weeks on May 22 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (299ยฐ) at 8:18 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 8 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly sunny skies, with a few rain showers and temperatures between 71 and 45 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 71 and 49 degrees. The record high of 97 degrees was set back in 1911.

Looking ahead, May ๐Ÿ•Š is in 1 week, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 6 weeks and Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 2 months.

Before Dark

April 4, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 53 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 43 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 10 pm.

It’s a nice evening, sitting out in the bed of my truck after the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. I opened the container of Christmas ale ๐Ÿป that I got at Christmas and it’s good and 9 percent alcohol. I won’t need a sleeping pill ๐Ÿ’Š tonight after two good size mug fulls. First alcohol I’ve had since my birthday ๐ŸŽ‚ .

It turned out to be a lot more sunny โ›… and nice day then previously predicted. Walked about ten miles at Partridge Run. Started at Bradt Hollow Road and Beaver Road to Sickle Hill Road to High Point Road to the Long Path past the big swamp to a snowmobile trail that runs southerly to a clearing that runs along the property line up to Cook Hill and the newer part of Partridge Run Game Management Area then bushwhacked down to a stream and deep Ravine to Cook Hill Road to Bradt Hollow Road than took the gated southerly section that goes back to field that overlooks a hollow, North Hill in Rensselaerville and the Catskills. I also tried bushwhacking back to a large pond – actually a swamp back that way and I spotted several geese and wood duck. ๐Ÿœ Fortunately didn’t find any ticks on me when I got home but I did find one crawling on me when I was hiking.

At the end of the day I was thinking it would be a nice night to camp โ›บ overnight but I didn’t bring any food with me and had eaten my lunch already and it was getting dark. Plus I knew tonight would be a fairly cool and long night. But I was tempted to just get my hammock out, swing by one of the nearby state forests, grab some blankets and hoodie, start a small fire, ๐Ÿ”ฅ put on some music ๐ŸŽถ and then in a few hours all it a night in the hammock. But I knew by morning that I’d awake and be cold and have to try getting back to sleep ๐Ÿ˜ด until daybreak. It’s still early April and while the low in Albany is 45 degrees, it would be a fair bit colder done morning. I haven’t hung out in the hammock since autumn, I wouldn’t mind breaking it out for a good nap in the woods, especially when it gets a bit warmer, agree all two weeks until the average day is in the sixties. It’s actually a bit surprising how do far this year we haven’t had any real warm days. Maybe during the long weekend. Certainly there are some state forests in the western part of Albany County that are good for hammock camping.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers between 11pm and midnight. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 43 degrees at 6am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 1st. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of 14 occurred back in 2016.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbons Moon with 88% illuminated. At 10 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (162ยฐ) at an altitude of 60ยฐ from the horizon, some 227,975 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by September 24th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ Ursa pretty bright moon lit night. The Pink ๐ŸŒธ Moon is on Tuesday, April 7. The darkest hour is at 12:59 am, followed by dawn at 6:04 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:32 am in the east (81ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 56 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:10 am with sun in the east (88ยฐ). Tonight will have 11 hours and 4 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers, mainly after 4pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 60 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 18th. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1928. 2.1 inches of snow fell back in 2019.โ„

Maybe tomorrow will turn out relatively nice like today. โ›… That said no big plans for tomorrow, just early to the laundromat and get groceries than back home. Maybe go for a walk around town, we will see or down to the park โ›ฒ. That said, between the ticks on the grass and the possibility of picking up COVID-19 from the park bench, it will be more of a walk ๐Ÿšถ there to get podcast than an extended stay. I do want to try to get the revised blog theme done and some fixes to my photo upload code.

Monday looks quite nice, ๐Ÿ˜Ž I plan to do my morning shift from my backyard and then go out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center to save bandwidth on my employers network card and be able to use my personal laptop for downloading videos and maybe activating the new blog theme.

No certain plans for the long weekend ๐Ÿฐbut truth be told I have some ideas. Nothing in stone yet but I’m watching the forecast and if things suck Thursday night I might leave early on Good Friday. To be safe I’ll get gas and all supplies โ›ฝ before I leave to ensure that I can wash my hands well. That said I’m a bit concerned that the forecast is trending cloudy โ˜ and cooler for the Easter holiday.

In four weeks on May 2 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (292ยฐ) at 7:57 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 49 seconds later then tonight. Snow Drift Against Mountain Background

February 4, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I went over to John Wolcott house for a few hours after work 🔎and continued working on his files. 📂 It’s been well over a year, one night most weeks. Learned a lot. I’ve started to tape record the audio 🔉 to capture some of our conversations. Now to just finish up the labels 🔖.

That bus really was smoking 💨 bad this evening. 🚍 I wonder if it’s an issue with the particle trap, I didn’t see it smoking downtown when I got one but I swear I’ve seen that bus smoking before but not all of the time. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of it at the end of my walk but no such luck.

Mild evening, I went for my evening walk 🚶. Not too cold out which is nice. I listened to a bit of President’s State of the Union address before turning it off. Honestly I’m hoping it’s Trump’s final state of the union and we will have a new president giving an inauguration address next year. 📝 I think the delayed results of the democratic caucus in Iowa kind of took all of the air out of the news cycle for the president. I’m sure he will be acquitted of the removal process later this week and hopefully we’ll have a new president soon.

Tonight will be cloudy โ˜, with a low of 29 degrees at 6am. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. Northwest wind around 10 mph. White Tail Walking Away

December 24, 2019 Night

Good evening on this Christmas Eve 🕯๏ธ ! Partly cloudy and 27 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. 🌡๏ธ

Had a nice lunch with the parents and my neice and sister 👪 and we exchanged presents 📦. We had macaroni and cheese for lunch although I guess tomorrow my parents are also doing a formal Christmas dinner 🍲. My neice is already getting close to four, I remember her baby shower a few years ago 👶. She’s got such a large vocabulary and is so smart being plugged into the whole Saratoga scene.

Hiking Bennett Hill was nice but I need to repair microspikes that I strap on my boots 👢. One of them had a wire break while another had a chain 🔗 pop loose. Easy enough to fix but walking back after sunset with the microspikes off it was slippery and I sort of twisted my ankle a bit. I’m fine though. I did enjoy the sunset and the rural agricultural landscape. 🚜 I miss that so much living in the city even though I do live far enough on the outskirts of the city I can still tell when the farm down the street is spreading manure. 💩 Someday I’ll move to some rural areas a few miles out from a small town like an Oneida or a Utica or a Plattsburgh but not in New York with all the gun laws and fire restrictions.โ›” But in the mean time, next week’s road trip should be great.

I was going to go out for my evening walk 🚶 after I got back from hiking Bennett Hill but I was tired and got watching the YouTube videos I downloaded this week. 🎥 I probably watch too much but at least it’s add free and a lot of stuff I watch is educational even if it’s not as good as reading 📖. When I’m camping in the Finger Lakes next week I’ll do a lot more reading for sure. I thought about riding the exercise bike 🚲 but I’m not sure if my neighbor was home – his lights were off but his car 🚙 was in the drive. I think he may have gone to the city on a bus or with a designated driver. 🍻 I’m still not sure if I’m coming down with something or it’s the Lyme disease. I am feeling again like I was in early November. I’m not thinking 💭 it will impact my trip next weekend but who knows.

I was watching this amazing video of a weather balloon with a camera floating up from earth to the stratosphere. โ˜ I guess the same thing you’d see on a plane โœˆ but I haven’t been on an airplane in years and it’s fascinating to see the different – and quite thin layer that seperates all of mankind from the vast emptiness of outer space that is extremely hostile to all life. 🌎 The atmosphere is really only a few miles thick. Honestly, I really like the idea of the Space Force and a greater emphasis on the understanding of the earth’s climate and the boundaries between space and the earth. 🚀

Christmas Eve will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 19 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 23rd. Maximum wind chill around 15 at 4am; Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 24 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1969.

Tonight will have a New Moon. 🌚 Not much too see though as tonight is fairly cloudy. The sun will rise at 7:23 am with the first light at 6:51 am, which is 25 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 57 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 11 seconds over last night.

Christmas Day will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 38 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 10th. I think that’s a bit too optimistic based on other forecasts I’ve seen lately but so be it. I’m thinking more clouds. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph. I have less than a quarter tank of gas in my truck โ›ฝ so I have to be careful how far I go. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 1889. 19.2 inches of snow fell back in 2002.โ„

A week from now will be New Year Eve 🎉and my final night of my Finger Lakes camping adventure. It should be a nice trip but the second day might be quite rainy โ˜” based on the forecast but a good chance to get through a book of two in the tent, sitting next to the heater 🎪. They have even less snow there than here at this point, I think it will totally be gone by the time I get there – but fortunately not so muddy because it is expected to be a fairly dry week until Sunday out there. At least next Sunday will give me a chance to do a lot of reading 📖 and maybe some writing too.

For Christmas 🎄my parents got me a nice little rechargeable lantern 🏮 that is perfect in the tent for reading at night especially with the nights so long now and the heater adding to the ambiance. Although also I’m looking forward to some long winter nights and hopefully getting the quality sleep that seems impossible lately at home – it’s terrible 😰 how I keep waking up at 3 or 4 each morning and can’t get back to sleep. 🎅 Maybe it’s Santa Claus waking me up each night, but it seems like every winter my sleep declines enormously. I think it’s too few nights in the woods. I still haven’t tested my big gas lantern, mainly because I have no where to hang it. I really should consider getting a lantern post but the thing is usually in the woods I have trees I can run a rope between to hang the lantern from. I really should do this tomorrow. And maybe start pulling stuff for camping from the attic. Gotta get my holiday decorations out tomorrow to hang at camp. . I’m hoping to also get a few extra Christmas lights and extension cords to use up at camp to replace broken and then cracked ones. 🔌

In four weeks on January 21 the sun will be setting at 4:53 pm,🌄 which is 27 minutes and 28 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had snow showers, cold weather, partly cloudy and temperatures between 5 and -7 degrees. That was a pretty cold day but not unheard of for January. My metrologist friend says he thinks late January this winter will be just as cold if not colder. I guess I wouldn’t mind the cold so much if my place had a better heater and more insulation. Typically, you have temperatures between 30 and 14 degrees. The record high of 61 degrees was set back in 2006.

Looking ahead, New Years Eve 🎆 is in 1 week, Coldest Week of the Year 🌬 is in 3 weeks, Martin Luther King Day 🖤 is in 4 weeks, Don’t Cry over Spilled Milk Day 🥛 is in 7 weeks, National Drink Wine Day 🍷 is in 8 weeks, St. Patrick’s Day 🍀 is in 12 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset 🌇 is in 15 weeks, Cinco de Mayo 🤠 is in 19 weeks, Primary Day 🗳๏ธ is in 26 weeks, Latest Sunset 🌆 is in 6 months, Election Day 2020 🗳๏ธ is in 45 weeks and Election Day 2020 🗳๏ธ is in 45 weeks.

 Purple Tree

March 4, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ! As we head into the spring ๐ŸŒทthings do warm up at an increasing rate, reaching an average high of 50 in only three and a half weeks. Four weeks to April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก. That’s also the first of April and opening day for trout season ๐ŸŽฃin case your not aware. My fishing license expires on April 13th, I might try buying it online this year. It would be easier that way. State budget is also due then, jokes on y’all.

Mostly cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ There is a north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. After last night’s mini snow storm there are 4 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 10 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Not far above freezing but with the sun โ˜€and road salt things are already starting to melt a bit.

It snowed last night ๐ŸŒƒ but didn’t start until relatively late. โ„ I don’t care that much as it’s largely melted off the roads at this point. I skipped my evening walk because I figured I got an hour in on my exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ and didn’t think it was necessary at this point. Plus I was tired ๐Ÿ˜ด. Dimmed the lights retired to bed before ten.

When I first woke up, I turned the heat ๐Ÿ”ฅ up for a bit. No need for it heat by time the sun โ˜€ came up, as things warmed quickly. Expecting a mild day today although not super warm. The south facing windows in my office ๐Ÿข will be nice though with the sun radiating in. Kind of pretty with the fresh snow everywhere, although I’m hoping it’s one of the last.ย Probably not a realistic hope.

Not happy ๐Ÿ˜Š I moved my truck to the grass ๐ŸŒพ, as I don’t think we will get much more snow this week but at least my parking spot will be cleared of snow. ๐Ÿ…ฟ I may want to move it this week so I don’t sink in the soft ground with the warmer March weather (HAH!) ๐Ÿ˜œalthough I did leave it locked ๐Ÿ”’ in 4×4 mode. I do need to get ketchup and dish soap, so maybe I will go out to the store this week and move the truck. Not sure though. Landlord did plow this morning, I was actually a bit surprised, as there isn’t that much snow. Maybe with the new tenants in the house up front, he’s trying to make a good impression.๐Ÿ•ด

Today will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 33 degrees at 11am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 10th. At some point the weather will change and it will feel more like May or June rather than February. Northwest wind 9 to 15 mph. A year ago, we had light snow. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1919. 8.3 inches of snow fell back in 1971.โ„

In 1985, Food and Drug Administration approves a blood test for AIDS infection, used since then for screening all blood donations in the United States. ๐Ÿ’‰In 1917, Jeannette Rankin of Montana becomes the first female member of the United States House of Representatives.๐Ÿ™… And in 1957, S&P 500 stock market index is introduced, replacing the S&P 90.๐Ÿ“ˆ

The sun will set at 5:49 pm with dusk around 6:17 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 26 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 14. โ˜ƒ๏ธ There will be a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 24 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Packed up a lunch and dinner ๐Ÿฒ as I figured it’s going to be a long day at work, especially with conference after session. I expect to be at work probably until after sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ but I’m fine with that, I think the bus will still be running ๐Ÿƒ as I doubt I’ll be at work after 11:30, and quite possibly get home much earlier. โŒš

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 9 degrees at 6am. 13 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -2 at 6am; West wind 7 to 13 mph. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1948.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of snow showers after 3pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 25 degrees at 2pm. 15 degrees below normal. West wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had light snow. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1964. 8.6 inches of snow fell back in 1917.โ„

Yesterday, I hike the rail trail then went over John Wolcott’s house. ๐Ÿ“œ Spent several hours sorting through files, trying to figure out what the old dutch and other documents were all about. I prefer to go over on the weekends, at least while I’m still in town, as it’s more productive to spend a few hours rather then just an hour or two, after work. I’ll have to see though once the nicer weather comes, maybe I can go after work with more sun in the afternoon. The rail trail was nice ๐Ÿš‚ although a bit icy in parts, certainly not snow free. Sat down by the Normans Kill Falls for a while, watching the river. Got a lot of steps in yesterday, for sure.

I put a set of ((parentheses)) around the end of the weekend by watching a video ๐Ÿ“น about the history of LISP. What an odd but useful old computer ๐Ÿ’ป language for sure. Made the half hour on the exercise bike pass by quickly. โณI also watched more of the How Farms Work channel update video I downloaded. I figured I am burning calories, plus learning about a lot of things I don’t know that much.๐ŸšœThe best part about pre-downloading the videos, is I don’t have to watch the commercials for all the commercial products, although I do try to go back to the channels that I like and click the like button, and sometimes run the ads in the background when I’m online so they get their credits and views.๐Ÿšฒ

Reinforced the button โญ• on my pants ๐Ÿ‘–. While that’s a good thing, as they were starting to get loose, it wasn’t the pair I intended to wear today. I wanted to fix it that pair, so it was reinforced. After spending so much time with the needle and thread, ๐Ÿงต it almost made me late to the bus.๐Ÿš But I ended up making it time, so that’s what’s important. I also ordered some more dress pants and another blazer, so I should look sharp, despite the many session days.๐Ÿ•ดI hate having to ration dress pants or wear the ones that don’t fit well. I like being as comfortable as possible at work. I probably should at some point get my jacket dry cleaned, maybe once I get my new one.

Finally took the trash out. ๐Ÿ—‘ It realized it had been inside for a couple of weeks, and I was starting to realize it started to smelled a bit. As I don’t have trash pick up, have a container for the compost, buy in bulk, aggressively recycle and in the summer burn the burnables while camping, ๐Ÿ”ฅ I sometimes forget about taking out the trash while cleaning. It’s actually amazing how little trash I have — three or four weeks of trash easily fit in a single shopping bag. Recycling, especially with those milk bottles takes up a fair bit more space. I wish they had returnables still at Stewarts. At some point, I’ll want to go to the transfer station with the recycling but I usually like to put that off until the end of winter. Much easier in the summer months, when I’m camping and have a fire every day.โ™ป I do find myself always acquiring so many disposable shopping bags, I really should buy some reusable bags. But then again, that might be the law soon. it’s not such a big deal in the summer when I’m camping, as they get used up then, but it’s a annoying how fast they multiply around home in the winter and have to be taken back to the store.

Got the 5 volt โšก linear regulators I ordered from China in the mail โœ‰.ย I am planning to use these for powering the small electronic projects powered my truck, namely the smart-relay I am building and the GPS logger I built last year.๐ŸŒ I used the built-in regulator for an Arduino to power the first version of the GPS logger, but I ended up burning-out the voltage regulator due to the relatively high voltage the truck’s alternator puts out, and the current draw by the GPS and the SD card reader. A linear regulator isn’t ideal for minimizing current draw, but when the truck is running, it doesn’t really matter, as we are only talking a few dozen milliamps. I am still now waiting on the relays I bought from China to do the switching for the smart relay, but I will continue to test and build things on my breadboard.

Pay week this week, which is good, because money is always tight. ๐Ÿ’ฐ My budget is always pretty small, although I try to save money wherever I can — but traveling and camping season is coming soon. Plus I owe the government a shit ton of money come tax day, and my ever escalating truck insurance bill is due the end of the month. It’s my fault, I decided to increase my insurance coverage to protect myself in case I were to get into serious crash, and burned some little child or hit the side of a house. I didn’t think that extra coverage was that much, but it’s kind of added up. I always try to be safe driver, but you never know what shit could happen on the road.๐Ÿž

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 36. Sunday, a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees. At least Saturday sounds nice but continued cold next weekend. โ„ Maybe the following week we will get seasonable temperatures? ๐ŸŒธ I’m still hoping to get out for a late winter camping trip soon, but a lot depends on how busy I’m with work and everything else going on in my life. ๐Ÿ• Getting rid of the snow would help too. I don’t drink beer (much) anymore, but I certainly wouldn’t mind a cold one in the wilderness.๐Ÿบ

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก and the start of Trout Fishing ๐ŸŽฃwhen the sun will be setting at 7:21 pm with dusk at 7:50 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 47 and 27 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 52 degrees. We hit a record high of 77 back in 1986.

Looking ahead, April Fools Day ๐Ÿคก is in 4 weeks, Tax Day ๐Ÿ’ฐ is in 6 weeks, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 7 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 2 months, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 12 weeks, July ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฟ is in 17 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 4 months and Last Sunset After 8 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 23 weeks.
